[Q] New phone - no 2.2 upgrade available.

This is my first post and before I start I would like to say thank you in advance for any help I may get, I do not take it for granted and I am very grateful.
I bought a Clearance Desire from mobiles.co.uk which is supposed to be unlocked and unbranded, when I try an OTA update to try and get froyo I get the message that the phone is up to date. Current Firmware etc is:
Firmware version: 2.1-updated
Kernel Version: 2.6.29.0cb9f166
Build number: 1.21.405.2 CL174215 release keys
Software Number: 1.21.405.2
I have been trying for 2 weeks with no success.
This is my first phone of this type I normally make do with my sons old phone.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Thank You
Frank
You can find what you need in the following thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741518
Thank you, followed the instructions and it updated just fine. Does anyone know why the OTA update cannot be located on some phones? Is it just this update or will I always have to manually update?
Frank
It's not a issue of the device, but rather that you are trying to update a little late to 2.2, although other users had the same problem when the OTA was just released.
In other words, you will most likely get further OTA updates the easy way .

[Q] Important questions before moving forward

First post, still need to know some information i need before continuing with flashing 2.2 or 2.3 on my desire. *Edit* the firmware is 2.1-update1 currently.
I have a CDMA desire with GCI here in Alaska (i dont think they will be updating this to 2.2 anytime soon) the stock RUU rom: Baseband- 2.05.10.08.11 Software number- 1.28.557.4 I cannot find this online so i can do a stock flash if it needs warranty service. Would anyone know were i could get this version?
I have not been able to find out if flashing would disable my connection to my provider when i flash it or it would result in me loosing my phone number with my provider because it is CDMA.
I have been looking into this post here, I just want to know about the two questions before i continue the process of flashing.
Thanks in advance if you help me out.

Is there some procedure to update to the latest Android version.
Any help highly appreciated.
PS - I would like to keep the phone clean with only the official update, and not root it.

Off topic, but very important!

[Q] Up_date or not

hi , everyone,
I bought HTC wildfire S with 2.3.3 and later i downloaded European update from here XDA, then my phone is upgraded to 2.3.5 , but now i got message that new update for OTA is available, my current software number is 2.13.401.3 and is there still new update for that?? my phone is already rooted, i m worried if this new update needs to be applied, should i have to root again or not??
please answer my quest ,
with thanks,
Richar8d
If its not broken don't fix it I always say
Sent from my HTC_A510c
Actually it is better not to update , and the root won't go if you updated cuz it is more like permanent ... but it is better to flash CWM before updating if you were so pissed of the notification , as an overall , don't do it , it will add uneasily breeaked security unless you are ready=(root+CWM) which might require you to downgrade ...
