Go to settings >> About phone>>Software update>>Check now.
You should use a wireless not a cable to do the update.
Your phone wont get bricked if u follow proper instructions in the a rooting instruction thread

Froyo. JPKA3 Version 2.2.1. It's language was Arabic and i changed in Endlish US and when I installed the KIES then the same language is selected.
Now the problem is > why is it NOT showing that the upgrade is available?

I presume that you are using a PC connected to the net.
I believe KIES looks up your phone on Samsung's websites and probably decides that an upgrade for your area / your phone is not available. We really do not know how kies works internally, so cannot say why KIES says no upgrade is available, when in fact, upgrades for your region / region from where you purchased the phone are available.
If you are looking for official firmware - look at samfirmware, and use ODIN (NOT kies) to upgrade.

Please can anyone tell me how I can update my I9000 to the latest version of Android.
It currently runs Eclair with an update.
I have read heaps of stuff about Kies and I agree its useless! You have to use 3rd party apps to backup your phone!
By using the Kies reg patcher 1.8, I changed the product code to VNZ (vodafone NZ) and can now get Kies to tell me there's an update available, but when I try to update the phone I get a message saying it cannot be updated. I then tried changing it to TMU as this is what Kies tells me the existing firmware in the phone is. But I still cannot update the phone.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I updated my GN2 firmware from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 using Odin and Samsung stock Firmware and rooted it following this How-to:

On this process I used this firmware:

I had no problems on it but now, from time to time, I receive a SMS from my Carrier "Oi Brazil" say something like "Welcome to Oi SP". This is the same message that I receive when I´m in homing.
Does anyone saw this erro before. It just start after this update.

I want to update my SGH-I257M To official kitkat rom , how i can do it.
And i have some bugs my phone somtimes loses network !
I also have SGH-i257M [note it is i not 1 or l]. I am in Canada, Rogers network. For me the network drops ended with the upgrade to KitKat 4.4.2 plus another update that came about a month ago. I did not keep track of the date for that latter update and i have seen nothing about it on any of the S4 mini forums. It updated the op sys plus more than 170 Apps. It is kind of mysterious, like i am the only user in the known universe who received it.
Can you use the Kies software to update directly from the Samsung website?
