http://shop.verizonwireless.com/?id=Wireless Charging Inductive Battery Cover 47610
Still cant stand battery doors that make the phone bigger. Thats my main reason for sticking with stock battery. Although cool, i wont be getting this.
been on verizon's site for a while now.. i don't know why they would put it up for so long if its not even going to be in stock any time soon.
wireless charging eh?.. but still requires a charging pad that needs to be plugged in.
i remember hearing a while ago from a verizon tech(one of the guys who works on the towers) saying that eventually the same signal broadcast from the tower will eventually also wirelessly charge our phones.
that i'd like to see

Wireless charging uses induction. To use the towers would require a LOT of power. If people are worried about our phones causing cancer now, I can't wait to see their response to something like this notion of mobile charging.

Hi out there,
i bought my GNEX a few weaks ago, and its awsome. But there are a few minor things, i realy hate. One of these was the heat problem. My GNEX gets realy hot near the cam where the SOC is. I was just browsing a few min or ideling through Android and i could feel it.
Im using liqiudsmooth and franco kernel and Nova Launcher.
First thing i did to solve the problem was undervolting.
Im now an this stats:
1344 MHz 1200mV
1288MHz 1125mV
1036MHz 1025mV
729MHz 925mV
384MHz 825mV
That helped a little bit, but not that much. Than i donwloaded the app Usage timelines (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hbHMudXNhZ2V0aW1lbGluZXMiXQ..)
i found that the Nova Laucher was using 50% of the cpu in idle and 60-70% when heavily used.
I restartet and reinstall, but no change. Since i switched back to the stock Launcher i have no more heat problems.
So may that can help
cya beamer
Useful info, however, one has to question your complaint of excessive heat when you're overclocking, kinda comes with the territory don't you think
Thats true
but i wasnt overclocking, i set the maxx speed to 1228, which is only 28MHz more than stock, so ther should be now difference. Another point is, the stock voltages of 1228 and 1384 MHz are equal at 1350mV.
HeHe!
I saw 1344 so was natural to assume o/c, I am completely stock on mine and mine barely warms up much, not that i've noticed anyway. However, I have come straight from a 0ne X back to a Gnex, and that used to really heat up. It was like having a bipolar phone. Sipped at the juice when on standby and raped the battery when on lol. BTW, Gnex is a way better device despite the specs difference.
Do you use the stock laucher?
yeah Onex looks realy nice, but it cost 550€, akku drains fast etc. Also i dont want to have a mobile toaster in my pants.
I was tempted to it by the specs of course, and it is a good device on the whole, but is riddled with unacceptable bugs. I got the opportunity to get my hands on a mint Nexus S and set about getting it up to date and onto 4.0.4 with the intention of using it as a backup phone. However, the more i used it, the more I liked it, and despite it being less than a quarter as powerful as the One x, it was smoother to use in the UI. It really got me tempted to get a Gnex again as my daily driver, so I did, and I'm not shifting back now, not till the next Nexus phone comes out.
Oh, and my Gnex is 100% Stock, non rooted, pure untouched google goodness
If it ain't broke don't try to fix it I say. And it works just fine for me the way it is...
My phone gets VERY hot during charging + streaming music via bluetooth and + gps with navigation running w/ screen on
i am on AOKP + Franco kernel. and using Apex launcher
will try undervolting i guess
Yes ure right, noot a quad or hexa or dekacore or a 59713546inch Display make a good Phone.
I has to be a good partner in daily use, u can rely on, and thats the nexus.
Back to the heat problems:
May there some other people out there, who have problems, that would be nice to hear ur experiences

Go ahead. That usage will make the device run hot regardless.
Absolutely, it's cost me a fortune in android phones to realise that. Anyway, for what it's worth, and to stray back on topic (apologies for that) mine, on stock, only gets mildly warm.

Thats right, does it get hot in normal use too?
i think undervolt is an option but not the solution.
Another option may is to use only USB charge if u want to use the Phone while charging

I think in this case undervolting is the only possibility. I dont know how fluidly the GNEX handle Maps or streaming etc when the max core speed is reduces to 1000 or 700MHz. May it will do ok and dont get too hot.
As long as the phone isn't ridiculously hot to touch you should be fine with it getting hot for 5-10min. Any longer and you actually might have an issue. If it burns a hole....well then...ya...ha.

Hi Smokeey, you may right that when the nexus get hot for a few min, its in the short run no big issue. But hot means high akku drain which u want to avoid normaly.
Im working in a company who handle these special display adhesives and over a longer time the heat can cause yellow areas, which i dont want to have.
Beside that i dont like it to hold a device in my Hand which is so hot

Ok so my sister's epic is overheating most of times (This is why I stick with HTC instead). Even when you connect the charger and its not being used. Bought it from a seller on craigs and the phone is in immaculate condition just it seems that the Epics are known for having that overheating problem. Wanted to know if rooting would fix this issue or should I just take it straight to Sprint(even though the morons that work there, reset the phone and reinstall the stock software) And rooting would only void the warranty. Oh and the battery dies pretty fast. And the other issue is the Wi-Fi and 4G switches turn on by themselves? Sound normal to yall?

What does your sister typically use it for? I've been using mine as a primary source of internet for the last 2 years and it's been known to overheat while downloading for long periods of time (which is almost always). I download roughly ~80-120gb a month. I've never really worried about it overheating though because it just seems to sort itself out and when I check it a few hours later, it's warm/cold.
If the battery is dying a lot though, you might as well take it in to Sprint and have them run diagnostics on it just to make sure there's nothing physically wrong with it before you root it and void the warranty. Maybe you can get a free battery or something out of it just in case.
To get the 4g and wifi to stay off, disable the Sprint Connections Optimizer in Settings>wireless and Networks.
Every phone I've ever had gets hot on the charger, so please give us more details.
What is fast battery drain? Again, usage details needed.
I walk on toilet paper cuz I'm the s###!

Yes this is off topic, blah, blah, blah, but do you find that your battery percentage DROPS while plugged into the car charger? In both the vehicles I have regular access to this occurs. It doesn't matter whether or it it is going through a 140 watt inverter and a 750 or 1000 Ma charger or a 1000 mA USB port on my Bluetooth FM transmitter. It. Just. Drops. I can only get it to charge with the screen off and the phone in deep sleep. It's been driving me ****ing crazy ever since I got this refurb about a year ago and I think it even happened with my original Epic. I've just resigned myself to carrying 3 batteries with my every day 5 batteries for long trips. I don't get it. It's quite depressing though, plus my Epic will rape itself if I have navigation and TuneIn on. It might only last 10 minutes before freezing and rebooting at 120°. God forbid I add 4G to the mix. Am I the only one this happens to? I'm still pissed just thinking about it. Am I the ONLY one this happens to?

never happened to me it discharges sometimes but i turn off 3g and itll cool down, sure it gets hot, are you using SAMSUNG car chargers? they can help. and is your battery dead or eol? a dead battery can ruin chargers.
Yeah I will take it to Sprint sometime this week for sure. My sister uses the phone for simple web surfing and email checks. But mostly for call/texts. I think the issue is the battery most likely since it takes a lifetime for it to charge completely. My Evo 3D charges full in around 45 mins or less even when running at around 10% battery. And it never gets hot when connected to the charger. The other issue is the phone automatically turning the Wi-Fi or 4G switches by itself. Ive turned it off once or twice and 2 mins later its turn on by itself. Phone has been acting nuts. I've owned 3 Epic touches and 1 4G and they overheated when in use but never when connected to the charger. All my babies are rooted btw.
Well man I've owned 4 Galaxy phones all together and they all get horny hot from using them for simple stuff like talking on the phone and web surfing. That's why I'm sticking with HTC. Never have I had my Evo 3D get super hot with simple use unless I'm watching a movie or using the Wi-Fi tether. Maybe its the Samsung phones they sell in America lol we get the cheap crap.

But my NS4G doesn't get around 100*F while charging in my car though.

I don't make it a habit of checking my phones temp but I'm sure mines pretty low while sleeping also.. just sayin.. but when you're in a car, especially one that's been sitting in the sun all day, it is perfectly normal for your phone to get a little warm while its in the car also... charging or not for that matter. And then if you dnt have a working a/c... wow don't even get me started there.... lol but really all kidding aside, its normal for these phones to get 100 and even a little over that.. it all depends on how much is going on in the bacground while you are plugged in.... that said, everybody knows that every phone is different

wireless tether or wired? wireless tethering it normal for it to get hot, especially when their is lots of data going through.
Wireless. I'm in jersey, no Internet yet
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I think it's normal. I was tethering on a mediocre signal 3G connection. Just surfing the web and maybe loading a youtube video or two, and the phone was hotter than tamales. I'd recommend taking any cases off to let it breathe, and maybe even get a fan of some sort to cool it off during operation.
I tethered my laptop to play Starcraft 2 before.... the charger couldn't even give enough juice to keep the battery from dying
I've a few posts about the heating issues with this device, and just wanted to get more opinions. I've also heard about poor performance via wifi )(and even issues with wired?) and would like to hear about that as well.
I'm surprised with similar hardware that is normally passively cooled (nexus 7) has heating issues. I know they run it a higher clock rate because there isn't a reliance on a battery. But I read the dev version ran even hotter and they addressed this in an update. The only way I could see addressing this via an update is by clocking it at a lower speed. I saw a video of someone playing dead trigger and at parts it seemed much choppier than my nexus 7, which made me think it's running too hot.
I've heard about people running it on its side and it runs cooler that way? I'm basically wondering if stock cooling is sufficient and any info on wifi/nic issues.
For me... Taking the board out of the case was the best cooling solution. That and my cigarette pack mod lol
The case is a crap design IMO and I also wondered why tegra 3 phones run better with passive cooling and no way for the heat to escape other than absorbtion.
The extra strain on the GPU when running 1080 also doesn't help. My monitor and TV only allow 1080, so 720 upscale isn't an option for me!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I don't think it has any real heat issues, people just enjoy doing those kind of mods, (probably in the hopes that overclocking will be a possibility). the wifi and bluetooth though do seem to have issues, probably due to the metal case.

Wi-Fi is shameful. My "gaming TV" is around 10 metres from my wireless router and OUYA (differently from Wii and PS3) cannot detect it, so I have to unplug the phone and move the router each time I want to go online.
The WiFi is unforgiveable, hopefully it's just a software issue. Wired internet is rock solid...never had any overheating. It does get hot, but Tegra 3 should be able to handle it.
I've only had 1 heating problem and it was my own fault (in a way). I currently have the kill processes upon exit unchecked, something that's required for certain sideloaded apps, and an app got stuck on over night. For whatever reason even though I put the OUYA in sleep mode, which should kill most of the apps (and does), it didn't that time. THe next day, the OUYA was hot to the touch. A quick reset fixed the problem and it cooled down in minutes. But to put that into perspective, my OUYA has never even heated up very much after 3-4 hours of gameplay and streaming 1080p video, only that one time.
As for wifi, after the last few updates, I haven't had any problem with connecting to Wifi and even the speed seems to be...tolerable, even with my router upstairs . I know this isn't the case for everyone, however, and I still tend to rely on ethernet as it just works better.
Thanks all for the info.
But I still get the vibe some say it's a poor case design (and causes overheating) and some say it's not an issue.
ut to put that into perspective, my OUYA has never even heated up very much after 3-4 hours of gameplay and streaming 1080p video, only that one time.

Hmm if a runaway app was taxing the cpu/gpu and it got hot to the touch, I would think a game would do the same, I guess it depends on the game.

This is what I've read in other places and not too thrilled about having to leave it out of it's case.
Someone mentioned bluetooth issues as well. I hadn't heard that before but I guess it makes sense if wifi has issues.
I wonder, has anyone used wifi/bluetooth when it's out of case? Just wondering if the case is shielding too much.
I really want to buy a couple of these, (one mainly for xbmc) but I'll definitely need wifi where I plan to put it so I'll think I'll hold off to see if there is an update resolving this.
mine does get very hot, but not "overheated". processors get hot, its a fact of, umm, tech.
wifi works WAY better out of the case. i mean, 100x better. i've never had a bluetooth connectivity problem.
i wonder what the source on thes heat issues might be.
thechnically the t33 shouldnt be too much different from the t37 in my htc one x+ which i enabled to run all cores @ 1,7ghz, too
i have to say, the phone tends to get very hot while playing demanding games like ravensword etc. but never throtteled too much.
i wonder what voltages for the consoles are and about the max gpu-frequency. can anybody tell?
else i have to wait for mine to arrive.
was lucky to shoot one brown limited edition one with 2 extra controllers on ebay for just 85 bucks
Sufficed to say I've not really noticed the overheating issue as I haven't really been monitoring it. The fan kicks in fairly noisy now and then but I only notice it when it's on my desk when I'm doing wired ADB tasks. When it's across the room I don't hear it.
As far as the WIFI is concerned it's my opinion that it's more firmware issue than the casing. When I took original delivery I set it up in my kitchen using WIFI. My kitchen is about as far away from my modem as is possible to get in my house and it connected just fine. I used it for a while with no problem. When I scanned for wireless networks it picked up 7 if I remember correctly, this is roughly the same as I get if I scan using my Galaxy Note 2 or Nexus 7. This obviously included all my neighbors networks BTW. After a subsequent firmware update it wouldn't connect and wouldn't see my modem. I scanned dozens of times trying to find a signal but no joy. The maximum number of networks it has detected since is just 2. Luckily every room in my house has a RJ45 network socket so it's not a problem. It's fairly obvious to me that this firmware update had a very negative impact.
