I have been putting up with the free titanium backup, despite the lack of full schedules and easy backups and restores. Is it worth the $6?
I think its worth it just to support the developer of the app the features are well worth it as well.

If you ever need to restore 40+ apps plus data... yes.
With the pro version, its a couple presses to automate the restores, with the free version, you have to confirm every individual app, which is very time consuming.
Also you'll be supporting the developer.

YES YES YES
Support the developer of the app... and the extras you get...
What all of these guys already said. If you flash different ROMs on a fairly regularly basis, titanium pro will way more then cut your time in half. Supporting the developer for making such a helpful app for what we do is nice also.
But just the app itself is worth every penny. I can't believe I dealt with the free version as long as I did.

agree with all. was using the free and just upgraded. don't flash a ton of roms, but supporting developers who make great apps in their spare time is good enough for me.

It's worth every penny. I just installed Pro a couple days ago and with the tap of one button, your ROM is fully restored and setup exactly like you had it before. The guy that invented Titanium should be praised.
YES. Pro is worth it for your time and a must for any ROM flasher.
Fork out the 6 bucks, its worth it!
I totally agree, best app you could ever buy from a rooting standpoint

Bought it.
I use it solely because I wanted to backup my WhatsApp chats on my Galaxy Tab 7.7.... Worth every penny I spent with Titanium Backup Pro! I would have to go through a tougher route if it wasn't for TBP. So yeap, I am happy that I paid for the pro version of TB!
Anyone who has ever had even a passing interest in rooting their phone should not be caught dead without this app. Most important app I have for ROM flashes.

I know the OP already bought it, but I'll use this moment to get on a soapbox about paying for android apps.
It's six dollars. A new phone, and 2 years of contracted service costs thousands (which we are totally getting ripped off on)! But we hesitate to spend 3,4,5,6 dollars (on a 1 time purchase... that you can use indefinitely... even on your next phone).
These products (software like titanium) are what make these phones so awesome. I use other features in titanium besides simple backing up and restoring. Today I just restored more than a dozen old games (with the data so my progress was intact) that I uninstalled months ago. Then I moved all of them to my sd card... and back to my phone...then back to the sd card (I was doing some experimentation with sd-ext). Moving them like that, one app at a time, would waste so much time. Instead it was so automated and easy doing it in batches. I could do other stuff while titanium did it for me. Just today that was probably worth 6 bucks of time saved.
And I bought the pro version a couple years ago when it was 4 bucks.
If these devs never get paid, they aren't gonna keep making this awesome stuff for us.

Absolutely.
Like everyone has said about multiple app restore (awesome), box and dropbox integration. Especially when Box was running their promo for free 50GB for android accounts or something like that. My TIBackup has its own Box account with TONS of space.
Been on the free version for ages, but after flashing several times this week I think I'm about ready to take the plunge.

Price Differences Help Please
Hi i have a few questions on the prices of pro
1. On the app itself it says the pro version is $6 but on the market/store it says it's $7 i emailed them a couple of times asking the questions but nobody gotten back to me

I was at the mall a few days ago and this shop was advertising a special to root/jailbreak iphones and android phones for 40 bucks, does anybody actually do this??
They do. Just look at the price premium paid for jailbroken iPhones on eBay as compared to non-jailbroken iPhones. But that's the iPhone. I would wager that as a whole, people who buy Android phones have a higher rate of self-rooting and less use for such a service.
well from what i saw it was 25 to 40. But damn really it makes me mad that people would charge that much to do something that can be done without professional help. I mean i will only charge 5 bucks if i'm super busy with my day and if I have nothing going on that day i'll do it for free.
You'd be surprised what people are willing to pay to not have to research and use a little elbow grease.
I charge people $10 to root their phones for them. It's funny that folks don't want to take the time to read and are scared of bricking their device, so for some reason they trust a complete stranger to root their phone for them. I charge $10 and donate $5 of that to whatever Rom I put on the phone and to whoever created the rooting process I used because obviously I didn't invent this thing called rooting. I also donate my own money to the rooting method I use and to CM monthly, so really I doubt I am turning a profit, but it is fun to research and root all kinds of different phones.
Yea I only charge the 5 to 10 to buy myself food, because be a broke college guy isn't that fun
But yea when people tell me to jailbreak their iphone and i tell them it cost nothing they are shocked lol.
Rooting is pretty fun to me especially when i get a phone i never have used before.
They do. I have offers from some people and some are offering up to $100 to do it (to unroot and setup couple small things), but i don't want to - simply is not about money... they don't deserve it ( i do this only for friends and not for money). Not everything is for sale, call me crazy to refuse that but that is my opinion.
I have yet to see these type of offers anywhere, I run my own small computer business as a side job. I don't make any money tho cuz most of my clients are family and friends so I don't charge them. I would charge to root someone's phone but only after explaining to them that it can be done for free on their own, but I'd end up donating it like one of the other posters.

I've done it for a few people and charged varied amounts. My cousin didn't know I know I could do this, and he bought an Evo on eBay and paid someone $50 to root it and flash it to Metro for him. People will pay for just about anything.
pretty much all non hardware issues with most modern day electronics can be fixed for free with a little research and elbow grease. If you think rooting is expensive look at the pc repair shops. To restore your computer with disks most big box stores charge $160+ ... simply to run a few disks (or hit a few buttons if it is a partition). virus removal - 160-180$+ in most cases to boot into safe mode and run a few different virus scans and or restore your pc. Heck to install a piece of software most charge 30$ its crazy what people will pay for things that can be done relatively easy for a little bit of research and time.
Yea I actually thought about doing this but I couldn't imagine charging more than 10 bucks for my time. It's not like I'm really doing any work, just some knowledge and time. I root my friends phones for fun. (samsung phones are crappy fyi )
Yeah it all comes down to a lack of research or the lack of confidence or both.
Android users generally are more computer savvy and will do it on their own but there are a lot of people out there that don't even know what rooting is or look at all the guides and have no idea what to do. Thats why I made one as simple as I could.
Rooting is one thing
Rooting is one thing. But installing a custom rom, putting the best Kernal for that rom, doing nandroid backups, installing any themes, updating radios, putting on gingerbread keyboard, backing up all apps and data prior and then restoring....ALL that can take a little over an hour or more depending on the phone.
And to some it is rocket science but to us its not. We have a skill set we gained from countless hours of reading and working on our own phones. For friends and family FREE, but anyone else, I have NO problem charging. But I do agree strongly with donating. I have donated to Fresh, Myn, Riptide, XDA, etc. to show my thanks.

you say this. But work a job like that talking to people who will pay for those kinds of services day in and day out, and you come to realize, that what seems like it should be easy for you, either makes no sense or is very hard for other people.
my job is in computer repair, and I am amazed at the things people think, or are afraid to do. for crying out loud, had a guy come in and tell me about how he used to "hack" some of the amiga computer systems, but then flipped and said, "oh but stuff has changed so much, I mean for example installing windows 7 on my computer was the hardest thing I have ever done!"
People would pay me for what I can do in 2 mins because it may take them 2 hours and they don't have the time or want the frustration...
just saying.

I thought about doing this part time for fun since I'm not working at the moment but don't really want to deal with other people's phones, especially if there are problems down the line.
I have donated to every developer whose work I use and will continue to do so. If I ever do take money to root a phone I like the idea of donating half of it to the developer of the ROM/root method.
Yea when i root someone's phone i usually put a new rom and delete all of the bloatware apps. Then just add some cool little things like a new keyboard. Most of the time tho they just want a new theme and free wifi tethering. Something else i'm learning to do is to root windows 7 phones. Has anyone had an experience with a windows phone yet?
I have had offers up to $100 for just root and tether. People are crazy............

Seriously? Wow....
Serious Help here needed...I'm perplexed...GAME detected as "not paid for" removed?!
I use applanet often, and I have now, on several instances had my games removed, without me actually removing them, by my EVO 4g all on its own because the games were "detected as not being paid for from the Market" (googles android market)"... verbatim it says "Unfortunately we could not locate your purchase on the Android Market, please uninstall this one before purchasing another one".
Is there any clue as to what I need to do to stop this from happening again? My phone is rooted and has a custom ROM on it. (CM 7.0.3.1)
**and please, before you respond with, buy the app from the Android Market, I have no issues buying my apps/games... I simply prefer to try them out for a day or two first.
I appreciate your help.
Honestly, I don't think you're going to get any help here. Yes, I know 15 minutes is not a large amount of time to test out an app. But that's the way it is and I feel you (we) should go by that. A lot of hard work and time away from loved ones go into making these apps and they should benefit from it. Not saying I'm perfect, but remember the saying "you get what you pay for."

Some apk files don't give you any minutes to test them out. I've donated to many people on here for their roms and I buy a great deal of apps from the app market as well as android market.... not everyone who uses applanet or any other source, doesn't purchase the apps in the end. I know I do. If not you don't get the updated, less problematic apps.
thanks for your input though.

I agree with you 100% I use applanet to fully try things out 24 to 48 hours tops. Then I go back and buy it from the Android market. Not everyone uses applanet for the wrong intentions. And I know its been said before but 15minutes is not enough time to test out an app.

..now that I have SIII? Should I keep it, sell it, trash? I usually stick old phones in a drawer, forget about it, and then throw it away. This phone has been great for the last 2 years. I'll bet a flashed a ROM on this thing over 300 times.
I flashed CM7 on mine and stripped it down to use as a media player/camera. Mostly keeping it as a backup phone in the event that a family member or myself looses or destroys a phone. I still keep it in the original box, and keep a stock ROM on the SD card so if someone needs it it's ready to be set up.
I gotta agree with BrettApple, keep it and pass it off to a family member if anyone needs it. I've had my GSIII for less than a week and I use my Inc as an alarm clock. I like to have 2 devices for alarms in the event I hit snooze on one accidentally. Also, I like to keep my old devices as backups in case my new device has defects or I make it have defects.
Agreed. Same as above, stripped version of CM7, used mainly for angry birds for my 5 year old now.
I'll add that keeping it is good. I sold mine after I got my rezound and now my 6 year old takes my new phone all the time. Would have been good to have to give to her. If you decide you dont want it I know a 6 year old that would love to have it for games etc.

All adblocking apps have been removed officially by Google.
I'm honestly surprised that it didn't happen sooner. Ad revenue taken from developers causes developers to cease development of apps because they aren't making any money at all. Let's face it, most of us don't buy apps. I get ad supported apps and Amazon's free app of the day. I have bought maybe 5 apps since I got the Hero when it came out...
^^ agreed ^^ it's their app their choice. You're choice to use it or not. Sucks but the way it is.

That does suck. That was the biggest reason I rooted half of my phones...:crying:
I buy most of the apps I use. But it's just a hosts file.
Like most others here, if I don't want ads I buy the app. Devs survive on ad revenue with their free apps. I'm not trying to step on any toes, I'm no saint either, but it's not the least bit surprising that a company who gets a lot of it's money through ad revenue removed ad-blocking apps from it's marketplace. Couple bucks gets you an ad free app usually and keeps food on the dev's tables.

If it's gonna make more devs, company create more apps/games for the android market then why not. I think little by little they will try to emulate the apple store with limitations and more restrictions . but like dude above me said just get the free app elsewhere, kinda the same deal with flash no biggie.

I support apps that are worth the money, like ROM ToolBox, Carbon Backup, Nova (and not all of these even have ads) but some free ads have no pro alternatives. I'm pro for developers making money...but if a user wants to block ads, that's their choice to do so on their OPEN-SOURCE OS lol. It's not a huge problem for people like us who can simply just load the .apk up or insert a modified hostfiles..but it looks if it was an "Appleish" move and that's the main reason I'm disappointed. If anyone gets what I mean by that. Regardless, since this had to happen, hopefully the developers make more money through ads and better apps can be developed and funded for? (Just a positive insight)
TL;DR : Google shouldn't have removed apps that didn't infringe on copyrights, but some developers still offer their apps unofficially thankfully. And we should now see devs being supported more!
Yeah I know what you mean, it's open source but do you expect to be so open the more successful android becomes. That's why Google wants to get rid of removable batteries and sd cards, they essentially want to control more of what you can do with a phone. people love android because you have options that's why it's so successful unlike apple so who knows what will happen in the future.

I also buy the apps I really like. If i use that app on occasion then i dont mind the ads, as long as they are the banners at the bottom or something, and dont just pop up in full screen when im trying to do something. Those apps that do that, i usually delete and just find an alternative app.
Some ads are intrusive especially the ones that spam your status bar with notifications about making your junk bigger. Not all apps have donate versions either as others have mentioned.
I don't know why this is upsetting it's not like ad blocking apps are going away... remember on Android we can install apps not in the play store

Indeed. It just feels as if Google is going towards Apples iron fist way of running things. No external sd card in the Nexus 4 and no removable battery as mentioned above? Apple phones also fill that criteria. Only time will tell to see if they become truly brazen.

I personally never removed ads anyways. The devs put a lot of time and effort into these and if I'm too cheap to pay for it, I can deal with the ads.
BTW 95% of my apps have been purchased if they have a pro/paid version.

I don't think it's really about that kind of control. The battery issue is about cost (and I'd guess has a lot to do with the manufacturer they're working with and what they have available that they'll work with), and the sd card issue is about Google trying to push people to use Cloud services (some parts business and some parts probably genuinely thinking it's a good idea) and a dash of them not having a clue (I love Google, but the idea that the external sd is "confusing" to users is just silly - my mom didn't know hers existed until I told her - it didn't "confuse" her, it was just a non-issue).

Guys,
If you've ever debated buying Tasker, now is the time. It's $2 in the market, not sure how long the sale will last. Seriously, if you're at all inclined to automate things, or even just simple profiles and want to build upon that, get Tasker.
Tasker was one of my first paid apps two years ago and it's worth the money.
But I made the mistake to buy the "direct purchase" version from the website and this can only be used on one device. So I fooled the license server with a Titanium Backup trick to use it on two devices.
Now I bought Tasker a second time in the Play Store to circumvent this trick. €1,99 is a fair price.
With the new release the direct-purchase version is no longer availible.
Direct purchase version included extra features, like encryption. Does this mean those are gone now?

I just did the exact same thing. I paid for Tasker before it was even in the market, but like you, I had to... Do ugly stuff to make it work newer or multiple devices.
I figure Tasker saves me at least 15 minutes a day, and probably does a lot of stuff I wouldn't even bother to do manually. Another couple bucks his way is warranted.

Yes, it couldn't be in the market with Encryption apparently, so it's out. I don't think Tasker's encryption was ever intended to be "military strength" or anything but I can see where it'd be handy sometimes.
I'll bet there are market apps with Tasker plugins that'll do it. I haven't found any offhand yet though.
Have been using tasker for about 3 months now ....fan of it...videos on xda have been of great help too...
