Just out of curiosity...
What does the version numbers in Sense mean?
Ex. 2.29.405.5
And Radio?
not sure about the last one, but the first 2 are release versions:
1. number is for major releases(1=ecleair 2=froyo)
2. number is for lesser releases lige bugfixes and so on
3. number is to show from where the update originates so to speak(405=htc, and every carrier have their own number here)
That's about right, except the first number. I don't think it's linked to the Android version as the Legend FroYo update starts 3.x.x.x
Thanks guys
What about the radio? GPS, Camera. etc?
Would love to gather a full list with the meaning of the numbers...
Could not find anything by searching...
Radio is just like the drivers between Android and the hardware. All stock RUUs come with a radio file which is what HTC link the hardware to
The version numbers are random and increase with each release.
GPS, Camera - no idea what you mean. There aren't version numbers so don't worry

I`ve read in the Hermes forum that f.ex .11 (or .01) means that GPS is enabled
If ypu want to know the brandong then I know 3.. 405 generic htc, 161 vodafone branded, 711 three3 branded
Hope this helps!

The Desire has GPS on it, you just turn it on. There's no version numbers involved
"The Desire has GPS on it" -
Ok, so only the Sense version numbers means something, and all the numbers and dots in radio dont mean anything, it just increases randomly after an upgrade...?
Ex. my Radio: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Your Radio: 32.54.00.32U_5.14.05.17
It does not represent anything
No, it doesn't. It's just a version number. They mean nothing
Don't worry about it!
Damn, OK, I give in

Dear All senior members of this forum,
i'm confused in understanding the areas taken care by updating the RADIO ROM of UNIVERSAL. can anyone just list down the benifits for updating a radio rom.
i want to make sure if one has to stay updated with the latest radio rom available of would the stock radio rom (Mine 1.09.00) stays fine forever.
looking forward,
farhaan rehmani
hi farehmani, I'm not a guru nor a senior member. But from what I understand.. updates radio ROMS are musch like the same as updated sortware. It has fixes for old problems like bad reception, low quality call audio... stuff like that.
But from what I've heard, the best radio for you also depends on your carrier/location... so just try all of 'em out. See which works best for you... you can easily change radio ROM versions anyway (no need to do hard reset, a soft reset is enough).
I would say, "if its aint broken, don't fix it"
Generally, the latest radio ROM gives you better reception, better sound quality. There are some people on this forum, who had problems with their device with respect to the latency of their devices in answering the calls. Most of them got it resolved by upgrading their device to the latest radio(ATM, the latest one is 1.15)
So, the bottomline is that if you facing problem(s) with your device regarding its phone part, the, you may consider upgrading the radio
thanx but i have another question...
Thanx for answering,
i asked this question cuz since i updated my pda with Jwrightmcps's ROM 2.02.00 WWE. i am unable to send MMS (there is no problem in settings) as it keeps the mms in the outbox with a pending sign of clock on it after uploading 95 or say 99%. secondly i was unable to sign in the MSN Live with this.
i used Radio 1.13.00. Could this be the problem. cuz i used 1.14.00 and 1.09.00 with previous versions of Win CE ROMS. they worked like a dream.
pls. advise.
farehmani.

the mms problem is not in the radio rom or Jw's rom. you just need to download the cab file with your operator settings and then you will be set.

I concur, it's not really the radio. It's either the WM6 ROM itself or you haven't got the correct settings.
i have read the wiki but still dont get it i can unrar jw newest rom just to get the radio only.but i have radio 15 from other source.how can i put it to my device?thanks
hi all,
im sorry if im a noob, i tried searching the forum but i havent found out how to flash an original rom. i saw the thread for original roms but i cant seem to update my hero and an error occurs. my build number is 2.73.707.9146733. got it in singapore. trying to update to 2.73.728.5 (sea) hope this helps!
thanks!
Any particular reason why you want to "upgrade"? Bear in mind that all 2.73.???.??? are pretty much the same, as the last two parts of the build number essentially indicate carrier/region, and a higher number doesn't necessarily indicate a more recent build.
Of course, some builds are "lesser" because certain apps (often Market) haven't been included, but in terms of performance they should be pretty similar.
Regards,
Dave
i see. should i "want" to upgrade, if its an official rom, i should just run it and it would work right?how would i know if my device is in wwe or sea?
thanks Dave!
The RUU will check the CID of your phone, and if it doesn't like it for whatever reason, it won't flash. I couldn't tell you how to determine whether your phone is WWE or SEA (South East Asia?).
Regards,
Dave
Last night I managed to de-brand my HTC Wildfire from Vodafone to HTC Generic firmware downloaded from shipped-roms.
The procedure seems to be a success, but I noticed something really weird - my Vodafone ES rom was version 2.24, while the HTC one is version 2.22. I checked for an update from the phone after that but no updates were available.
Is this the latest official version? (I know of some cases where companies change the version number just because they added their own apps/logos in the phone)
The procedure I followed was:
Install HTC Sync
Create a Gold Card
Downloaded the latest WWE rom I found on shipped-roms (RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe)
Ran the installer and waited for it to finish
Thanks in advance for any replies.
P.S. using gold card doesn't root my phone right? (I don't want it to be rooted at this point, so I thought I'd ask)
It's normal. All different carrier branded ROM's have their own version numbers, and the WWE ROM has the lowest build number among these (i.e . 2.22), Most probably, since it was the first one to be released.
And no, you are not rooted, so don't worry about it.

Oh pretty neat I guess.
Any recommendations on which ROM should I keep?
In the past I was always advised to use stock firmware on smartphones, but not sure about the case with modern ones.
Since you don't want to have root at this point of time, you will have to stick with the Stock ROM. If it works fine for your needs, I would say go for it, but, if you feel the need to experiment / mod, then definitely give ROMs like Cyanogenmod 7 and other Gingerbread a try. Or, if so inclined, you can go for Sense based ROMs as well, which look and feel like the Stock ROM, but with various tweaks, improvements, features and optimizations.
I have spent a few hours reading the forums and getting understand things, but one never knows if one really understand things until one summarizes it themselves and asks others to confirm it. So, my situation and summary are below. Do I understand???
I live in South Korea and got the MB525. I like it very much, but I have SK Mobile. The last straw came when they installed even more stuff on my phone (like Korean social network programmes) without my permission, using some form of auto-update even though I had that disabled, and now will not even let me turn off auto update on those programmes. Also had a problem on a trip to Malaysia where the Korean emergency number (119) was the customer service number for Maxis - hence calling customer service got me the fire department!! I am just tired of having so many junk programmes on my phone and not having real control over the phone.
The phone runs 2.1-update1 and I would like to instal a generic version of 2.2 or 2.3 (that is cy7, an unofficial version of 2.3 right). I would like a version that is not country specific, but in English. By doing all this I hope to be able to have complete control over my phone, not have troubles using it internationally (sim is already unlocked but things like emergency numbers being programmed in), and be able to install and uninstall any programmes. I hope that by doing this SK Mobile will not be able to install any of their own software and that I can uninstall anything I do not like. I do not think I need moto-blur (do I???), so a version without that is better, I think.
While new to phone technology, I am good with computers and have my own web site, so I think I have the ability to do the upgrade per the 'All in one Defy Beginners guide' (Serious thanks for that). I'm sure I can figure out how to flash it properly, so no worries there.
My first question is what version/package would others recommend so that I have an English version that works internationally / meets my requirements. My second question is do I understand thing right above and am I on track, and my third question is what am I not thinking of?
Thanks a lot, and sorry for such a long post but too much is new all at once.

haha... yes CM7.1/MIUI or pretty much the other roms wont give you any trouble using it internationally, and yes if you install cm7.1 they(SK mobile) wont be able to 'update' your phone... and yes just follow the guides carefully and your good to go... Good Luck
Since your phone is for SK, then I'm sure that most of the ROMs in here won't have no problem with your Defy.
I suggest CM7 for the function, and MIUI for the theme lovers.
DeBlur is absolutely, since that function just make troubles instead of goodies. Emergency Calling ? Um... not tried editting yet.
OK, thanks for the help above
But, next question. My phone runs 2.1 - update 1, but is I think Eclair version. I bought it in Dec, 2010. I have decided my first step is to upgrade to 2.2 and see how that goes.
But from the how to guide the bit below is very confusing:
CG Version 2: SBF 2.21 / 2.34 / Chinese (Éclair)
CG Version 3: SBF 2.51 (Éclair)
CG Version 4: SBF 3.4.2 (Froyo)
CG Version 5: SBF 4.5.0 / 4.5.1 (Gingerbread)
How do I relate version numbers listed on my phone (2.1) to the list above? I assume I want 3.4.2 but how can I understand version numbers so i do not make a mistake?
As my goal is to upgrade to a version that I can downgrade to 2.1 if needed for warranty reasons, I need a fixed SBF for Froyo. Can anyone give me a specific link to such a SBF version?
Thanks and sorry for all the questions. The learning curve is a bit steep.

Why don't you upgrade from official site.....
can you provide link to the guide you mentioned...
Root your phone (using superoneclick), install 2nd init, after that just flash CM7.1, no need to worry about sbf for CM7, although there is a recommended base ROM, im using it just fine flashing it over my original rom... dont know about others though...

Hello,
How can I localise the radio chipset on the bord ?
best regards
If you mean radio (gsm), it's located in Qualcomm SoC (processor, radio, etc... in one chipset).
Why do you need location?
What is problem?
Hello,
T thought that it was a separated chipset
I can't make a call
When I dial a number, it opens the screen calls it "call in progress" then 2 seconds after it cut "End Call".
However, the 3G connection works.
Best regards
Did you try to change settings?

Hello,
Yes I tried every things in sittings menu, I tried another reader SIM card, The same SIM card works correctly with another DHD, I tried a custom ROM, I tried another flex cable.
NO changes
Did you try to turn off wlan and try it again?
Or to turn off 3g?
If you use custom rom you don't now nothing because they can have a problems for some devices.
The best rom for testing is the latest stock shiped wwe ROM installed from ruu (not from hboot).
You can download it from here:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace
Hello,
I do flashing the RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.exe,
before doing a custom rom install.
I do several tests without 3G nor wifi.
I tested the *#*#4636#*#* : phone information to fix GSM only.
I am in test with a stock rooted rom (DHD_WWE_3.12.405.1_STOCK_rooted_by_nitr00.zip), I have all time the same result : no calls in or out possible
Thanx
Did you try this?

Unsupported bands? Mine worked in all of the places I've been in Europe.
Just to make sure try a different SIM ( with different network - preferably 2G sim as most 3G cause haywire. )
If not then flash a radio FOR WWE as it may be outdated.

I don't understand why people don't read the whole thread. It's just 8 short posts.
This turns out that you write something just because you have to.
But you aren't the only one. And that's sad.

Well, to be honest tapatalk sends me to the first unread post; therefore I couldn't read the post that you flashed a WWE RUU.
However, I'd think you should flash a radio specific to your region as their could be difference to the WWE. But I don't know if this would work as they're device dependent? But it's worth a shot.
Though, accordingly to your posts you've tried many software troubleshooting and checking the flex cable. I wouldn't know anything else...
