where is this located at?
TMo G2
when i post on facebook it says posted via android where is this located on the phone so i can change i guess i can call it a phone signature.

I don't believe this is something you can change as it is actually part of the Facebook protocol (Facebook knows what method you are using to connect to its servers). So if you use the Android app, it automatically adds that (that same happens for iPhone and Blackberry users). If you don't want it to say that, you can use the browser instead (touch.facebook.com is a touch-friendly interface).
Maybe there is a hack or something that can be done to the APK, but I haven't seen one...

[Q] Facebook app question

I am running Cyanogen RC and installed the "hacked" facebook app that allows for contact syncing. Everything has been working fine, no problems at all. I installed Tasker on Friday after the review on Lifehacker, but haven't really set anything up yet (just haven't had time to define a lot of tasks.) Since I installed it, I noticed that the "Older Posts" link in the News Feed doesn't get older posts like it used to - It looks like it's updating, but no older posts appear.
My job is high level software tech support, so I'm trying to go through all the typical troubleshooting steps in my head -
1) Is it the fault of the hacked FB app? But it worked when I installed it...I could go back to the Market version, but then I lose contact syncing.
2) Is it Tasker's fault? I don't see why that app would interact with FB, but it's odd that I started noticing it right after that install. I suppose I could uninstall Tasker and see, but I really want to start learning and using Tasker.
Any ideas out there?
Nobody???

[Q] Internet ????

These are most likely stupid questions for you experts, but it is driving me crazy. I am using the stock AT&T rom that came with the phone.
1) What do I use WiFi or AT&T? I also have a wireless modem setup at my office and at home. Can I connect to these? What is "Mobile Web" for?
2) How do I know what browser I am connecting to? I have Opera and Internet Explorer. Most of the time Opera does not every connect. I have even downloaded Opera 10, but I cannot find it.
1. If both are present, use whatever you want. WiFi can sometimes be faster, so if its available you may prefer WiFi when its available. But ATT's internet will work almost everywhere that has a cell phone signal.
2. I think "Mobile Web" is what the browser shortcut on the HTC interface is named on the stock ATT ROM, if I remember correctly (I'm not running stock on mine, its just called "Internet" on mine). Its just a shortcut to the browser. If you use this tab, it automatically opens to Opera.
The icon for Opera 10 should be in root directory of the Start Menu. If not, use the File Explorer (Start>Tool) and browse for "Opera10.lnk" to find where it was installed to.
PAP or CHAP Authentication?
What is this and what should my setting be? It is in the Advanced Network in the Connections Folder. I am trying to figure out why my Microsoft Mail will not come in automatically anymore. I have been playing around with my phone a lot and may have changed something that I cannot figure out what it was.
Another question is the Microsoft Direct Push - should this be on or off?

I have Opera 9, but have not found anything for Opera 10.
Did you actually install Opera 10, or just download it (somewhat common error)? It will download as a .cab file, which you then have to unpack and install by clicking on it.
If it was installed, it would show up in Remove Programs. Go to Start>Settings>System>Remove Programs, and see if Opera 10 is there.

It should be PAP.
Try not to mess around with too many things, if you don't know what they do (such as seeing the tweak on these forums). You can mess things up pretty badly. Or at least keep track of what the default option was before you change it, so you can change it back. Although if all else fails, you can hard reset (Start>Settings>System>Empty Storage). But you will lose all your data and return the phone to its factory settings.
If you want your email automatically pushed from a MS Exchange server (such as work email) when Direct Push should be on. Where do you see the setting for this?

It is here.
Start>Settings>Connections>Wireless Manager
Ah, yes. That one.
I think that will cause the phone to push MS Exchange emails to your phone whenever they arrive, and cause shortened battery life. Better to just schedule ActiveSync to download your emails periodically (unless you are really that dependent on getting your email instantly). In which case, you can turn this option "off". Or if you don't use any MS Exchange services at all, you can also turn it off.

This is what I had to pay extra for due to having to get the e-mails (for work) when they come in if I am not in my office. The company is paying the bill.

Problem with issues/features of android

Well I got my hands on the most advanced operating system
It is nice but a bit annoying unfortunately. I have some questions about it guys and hope you will be able to help me.
For starters the Gmail app is crashing all the time 'stopped unexpectedly', maybe because I told it not to sync, but come on I can't even open it. I use the exchange and if I tell gmail to sync I just get my emails twice which is annoying.
For some reason the thing decided that I want my facebook contacts in my dialer. Unfortunately I don't. When I linked them to some real people it named them however it wanted without giving me the option to rename my own contacts. And I don't want facebook contacts in all people. So I factory reset it and told it not to sync them, but then I can't associate my actual contacts with facebook. I mean the fracking thing wants to do what it wants and I want it to do what I want .
Can I have more screens on sense - like in winmo sense?
Then I don't have a simple file browser, why , the BT file transfer is not working, or just not available, no mp3 for ringtone or I missed something, my 6 and a half year old crap symbian nokia has both bt and mp3?
I can't seem to make it auto attach to the HSDPA network, don't know why, no such setting
Why does all the software makes folders wherever it wants, all over the sd card, without even bothering to ask my opinion
I installed 3-4 apps including the missing file browser and bt transfer, plus some more basic stuff sat nav and now I'm running out of space, why
Don't get me wrong, android is alright, I didn't wrote here to bash it or something, just to share another thing below
Ever since the dream came out I read what a great os android is, now I get it 3 years later and I find it lacks some basic functionality I had many years ago on my crap symbian. I was with winmo the past 4 years, it has flaws, but it's mail client hasn't crashed once, and I can't even open Gmail app on Google OS. I can't even imagine what was the expirience for the dream owners. The other thing, I am not a programmer, but I have used linux before, and calling this thing linux is like if I call my house a skyscraper.
Anyway if someone has a solution for my problems I will be really grateful guys
Ok I'll kick this off:
Gmail app crashes - Well mine doesn't and never has if you have factory reset and its still doing it then maybe try looking to see if it a problem with using exchange at the same time.
More Screens - The desire has 7 home screens 2 to the left and 2 to the right which can be viewed by swiping left and right, pinching the screen as in a zoom out method or pressing the home button.
No File browser - yeah your right install Astro
No Auto HSDDPA - Not sure about this as mine just does any more info?
Random FOlders - Yeah this is very annoying maybe version 3 will address this
Lack of Space - the phone has limited internal storage and all appds install to it. Version 2.2 is now being rolled out which allows installation to the SD card which will give more room. The Sat nav stuff is huge and will be why you are running out so quick. That along with the carp the network operator has shoved on there so debrand asap.
Its not linux - you're right its based on it though. A full blown linux install would frighten most ppl though so they have installed a nice UI to cover up the complex stuff.
Thanks
The gmail app crashed less (1 of 3 times) if I actually synced mail with it and every time if I sync only contacts
I know about the 7 screens, just wished for more -10 for instance, I've been using smartphones for quite a while
Hsdpa can be on or off, it can't be off and then connect by itself if something needs it.
Its weird but 3 mobile didn't put any crap inside, or at least it is not in the apps part. Actually I had to download the crap by myself as it was skype, which I wanted to have anyway
I am still unsure about rooting it, as it looks like I won't be able to achieve much, alright I'll have a terminal, but I need to use it for something
The device says it has 147MB for software, sat nav 2x11-12MB + crap on sd card, some other minor stuff - file explorer, bt transfer, taskmanager, dictionary with database on sd, goggles haven't tried it yet, flashlight, skype, win messenger, google earth and it's at 75%
hope this helps and thanks again for the advice
Hi Again I am stuck on the gmail issue and unfortunately there are only 7 home screens.
You may try Data On Demand app that may do something like what you need for the data.
I wouldn't bother with rooting as like you say its not really necessary and has few advantages other than backup.
I know Google earth is huge but it does appear like you should only of used around 60 to 70 Meg or 50% from the stuff you list Mind you I think a lot of the system apps like weather etc may use some of that memory but cant be uninstalled but I could be wrong on this.
If you're going to get the best out of this phone you have to give in to google.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yeah, thanks, in programs there is the data consumption of all apps, surprisingly, the browser has used 7,84MB of max allowed 6MB cache, now I know what's wrong with the space
Do you have any idea about the contacts+facebook issue? For example a .conf I can edit or something else
Btw I knew about these issues in 1.5 (bt,storage, file explorer), but I tought they were fixed over 3 years. I haven't read much about them, except how great android was and now i feel like a kid without icecream
@Mark One - What do you mean by this, if I wanted a device which did what it wanted, I would have bought an istick. Linux has always been doing what I told it even if it lead it to crash. It's just a phone if I don't get along with it I'll just get another one.
Err the facebook issue I dont have cos i dont use it but I do know that if you press phone and press the option on the bottom left to show all people then you can press the menu key which allows the selection of the "View" option where you can set "only show contacts with phone numbers" maybe this will help?
Froyo or version 2.2 of android has just been released which addresses the storage problem but not the others
I found this, it ditches most of the FB contacts, but leaves the ones which have phone numbers entered in their profiles, that is in the dialer only. I'll keep digging on this one.
Alright, I rooted the thing with unrevoked and the hboot 0.83 recovery image, installed froyo open desire sense + 5.xx radio. Unfortunately everything is the same, only skype is not working now. I formated the sdcard but the thing only lets me move a couple of small apps on it. Sat nav doesn't want to be on the sd, is this only me?
My mobile network is blocking sites with xxx content, unfortunately it is blocking some which don't have. I tried to change the user agent of the browser, it didn't work. If anyone has any idea about this
Now I debranded and rooted what do I do next

Facebook Wall Post Signature

Guys,
I know that there is a setting for mail accounts to disable the "Sent via Windows Phone" signature. However, I haven't discovered a similar setting for Facebook. This thing is "spamming" every wall post I make with a "via Windows Phone" tagline and a small, green Windows logo.
Does anyone know how to disable this behavior and get rid of the signature in Facebook?
I have also checked the Facebook app, but it seems to be missing this setting, too.
Thanks!
that is something face book puts on every post that didnt come from the main web interface.
EX:
via facebook mobile
via facebook for windows phone
via facebook for HP WebOS
Ect.
theres no way to remove it.
just go onto the facebook page on the main web interface - i've found that to work perfectly! even chat works on it! much better than the app i find!

Just use iPhone or Blackberry and post, so you will never have a spamming problem with "via Windows Phone" (sarcasm at best)
It's not spamming anything. It does it for everything. If you post from the website it shows it as being posted from the website or "Mobile Web."
There's nothing you can do about it, unless there's some setting we don't know.
It doesn't take up any extra space on the post, either. What's the problem?
Just gonna have to live with it. The only way to post on FB spamless is from an actual computer.
I did ponder about calling this behavior "spam," hence, the quotes around the word in my original post. It is not really spam... I guess I used the word because it is something unintended (which what spam is). Also, this is my first smartphone, so apologies if I am not used to how BB, Google, and iPhone do things. It is good to know that FB does this automagically for all devices.
Thanks for clarifying!

[FIX] Facebook w/ PUSH

This is simply what I have gathered from research and testing... but it works for me flawlessly.
All right, I started this journey off simply trying to find out how to get facebook messages without having to open the app every time. Then the messenger app came out and I used it for a while... and I ended up hating it. ANYWAYS this is how to get those lovely little messages every time and never miss a one.
I found out how to do the blackberry facebook push hack and that worked and then mysteriously it stopped working or I stopped noticing. Either way heres the solution
SOLUTION
1. Find a blackberry
2. Log into the "facebook for blackberry" app.
3. Allow access or w.e and then log out of the blackberry app
4. Log into facebook for android and enable notifications ( I have mine set to alert on everything except group invites... I hate those.. also I set it to facebook pop for the alert )
5. I turn off refresh so that push does all the work (battery saver... the only thing you need to do is manually refresh your news feed, which I'm 90% sure the new fb app does upon entry.)
6. *IMPORTANT* make sure no android tablet/phone is logged in under the same account. EDIT: Just found the culprit!! It is the facebook messaging app installed on my xoom.
7. Enjoy Facebook with working push.
-------------------------------------
THEORY: I think facebooks servers send out one "push" message per message and if you have another device (in my case a tablet) synced to the same facebook account (the one with blackberry push enabled) then it simply sends that one push to whatever device has the messaging app installed... HOWEVER if your tablet/other device doesn't have it installed then it goes right to your NORMAL facebook app... thus no need for that silly messaging app that always confuses me between that and the google+ one. rantover
If you cant find a blackberry download the latest blackerry emulator from bb like it says in my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383672

If its not working for people make sure they unsync any other devices tied to that account.
