Like most people, several of my contacts have been linked to my Facebook Friends. Then if I use PIM backup or My Phone after a flash and restore my contacts, the Facebook "link" is there, but it doesn't update the picture (the picture reverts back to whatever it was before the facebook link) and it doesn't update the status' or birthday's. I have even removed all the link's, and started over, but that doesn't work. I've tried everything i can think of, but can't figure this out... has anyone else run into this and have a working fix?
Yea, seems like this is a problem all over. When I try to link a contact to a facebook profile the list of profiles I am given to select from bears no relation to my actual list of friends. Most of my friends are on there but not all, some have pics & some don't, I have old FB contacts who I have since deleted & even have 1 guy I have never heard of & has never been on my friends list.
There is a hotfix on the htc website but tried to install it & it comes up with "this hotfix is not compatible with your device"
I've been trawling to try & find a fix but there doesn't seem to be one & very little mention of the TP2.
Anyone else have some input??
Smells like a ROM issue. Did you try with the official or a different cooked one?

Hi Jackos,
still on the original winmo 6.1 as I've got loads of software & really don't fancy having to reload everything.
Looking around it seems I'm not the only one with this kind of issue.
It gets worse.
This morning I tried again, logged out of facebook via my contact card & then went to log back in. I now get "connection failed" each time I try to connect.
FB is working fine on the app & via opera etc & I've got no probs with email etc so it's not data connection or signal.
This is def confined to HTC integration of FB bugt I can't use the hotfix they have posted because it claims it is not suitable for my device!!
Any help would be much appreciated.
Hello everyone, starting last night, my manilla.exe/Sense crashes any time Twitter tries to download new tweets (Using the Twitter client built into Sense). Sense closes and relaunches, no new Tweets are displayed. Happens with both a manual refresh or the automated Twitter refresh.
Thinking it was maybe something funky in my Twitter feed, I logged out of Twitter and logged into a secondary almost unused twitter, and ran into the same problem.
Any idea what is causing this?
My next step would be to delete the file the tweets are stored in, in case this has some how gotten corrupt. Any idea what file to delete, or where to find a menu command to do this? Logging out doesn't delete your old Tweets, just causes them to not be displayed.
I'm sure a hard reset would fix this, but I've got a ton of software I don't want to reinstall.
Running the Sprint version of the TP2, using the stock 6.5 ROM.
As I had the same problem, since today (manilla crashing) I started browsing the forum and found that others too thought peep could be the problem. This is how I came to your thread.
I don't have a solution, but it seems to me the problem has got something to do with some or other update...
When I close phone connection (boot and then don't enter pin-code) then everything keeps working great. Updating and downloading through WiFi. even Peep!
Very strange....
Thanks. Not sure what peep is, but I don't use that. I did find the Temp folder for Twitter, and deleted everything in that, didn't help.
I did see when I tried to reconnect that it processed two tweets before crashing (based on the images it downloaded into the Temp folder). So either Twitter changed something that's messing up the client, or there's another database/cache somewhere I haven't been able to locate that needs to be rebuilt.
Guess I'll try PocketTwit in the meantime.
HTC Peep is the built-in twitter app. If you disable autosync in peep everything runs smoothly. Twitter probably made some change in protocol or sth...
An other twitter app will have to do ;-)
Oh ok. Didn't see the name Peep anywhere, or on the .exe. Good to know. Even with auto turned off, it was still crashing. However, it looks like its a Twitter issue:
A known API issue is causing some clients to crash 1 hour ago

Taken from their blog.
Twitter support says: problem solved!
Still not working for me, and its been about 50 minutes since they posted it was fixed to their status page. Peep still crashes on refresh, and Pocketwit refuses to show any updates.
Any updates on this? I'm still crashing this morning.

use sktools to clean the twitter-cache. works for me.
I got it working last night. Took about 3 hours from when they posted it had been fixed, for when the built-in Twitter client started working again without crashing.
PocketTwit refused to work until I deleted the account and recreated it.
Both are working today.
Mine is still crashing. Damnit.
Try going into the Temp folder on your phone's root, and deleting all the twitter db/cache files.

Perfect! Thanks!
I have a horrible feeling that when Twitter turn off the auth-ouath thing (http://countdowntooauth.com/) all the older phones who have a Sense tab that runs Twitter will stop working
Both my phones, HD2 stock rom and TD2 Energy rom, crashes on trying to update the twitter feed. Trying to delete the cache in \temp doesnt help. Strange. Maybe salemfox is correct, one does hope that HTC fixes Peep asap then...
Hey, my TD2 with Energy-Rom GTX 25 aug.. is working again!! Jippie! I did delete my accountsettings on the TD2 first ... But logged in now and no crashes anymore!!
I was right! Any idea is there's ANY fix for this? I doubt it, it would require a new manilla or at least us replacing some files (the ones with all the numbers in their names) in the Windows directory. It's happened on Android too...

Yup. This is frustrating. Not only does Peep not work with Oath, but neither does Pockettwit. Anyone know of any Windows Mobile Twitter clients (that are good) that work with Oath?
When peep stopped working because of the bad auth connection to twitter, on the upside it resolved my SOD problem. This is on windows mobile 6.5, after I already applied the htc patch for the sms memory leak. Unfortunately last night the phone automagically seemed to try to make contact again (i heard the typical message twirp sound) and truth be told this morning the tp2 once again slept the sleep of death. I just disabled the service for the time being but i would love to know how to remove peep altogether manually. Still not clear on that.
Forgive me in advance, I am asking this question on behalf of my gf that has an Epic.
Every couple hours she gets a prompt to login to facebook which is becomming very annoying. I have an Evo and have never had this issue but I also use the official facebook app, it appears that the epic has its own facebook app which appears to be the one causing us troubles. Does anyone else have this issue with facebook or am I doing something wrong? It would seem there is a way to stay logged in because if you are constantly signing in it kinda defeats the purpose of widgets.

This isn't going to answer your question but I'm just letting you know I get the same issue. I just either leave it or clear the notification up. Wouldn't mind finding a solution to this as well. Good luck!
I was afraid of that, so its either deal with the constant logins to get everything synced properly in your contacts, messages, etc., or go with something like Pure Messanger Widget and stock facebook app?
yep same issue here, ive learned though it does it only when i check my facebook on the epic
if I leave it alone it doesnt log out
There is a similar post in the General forum, but I had the same issues.
When I experienced the same issues, I was still on the stock version of Facebook.apk. The SNS account kept prompting for me to log in again, with each sync interval.
I tried removing and adding the account again and rebooting in between, yet still the same problem. I finally had upgrade Facebook to the latest update that was the cause of all these login issues for older versions.
The upgrade fixed the problem, but I did find an issue when you use the built-in Facebook contact sync alone it may not carry profile pictures over to SMS. I had to manually add the account, this ended up putting two Facebook sync processes on my phone. The first is for Facebook to actually let you login to the app (just has sync contacts), and the second is the process that will sync both contacts and calendar events again. (the original sync we're used to)
Reference thread
EDIT: I just got the same SNS login prompt again.
I've never had any login problems on the facebook app, but I also don't use the feeds and updates widget.

This only seems to be happening to me more often recently. I swear it's asking me to log in to Facebook & Twitter every hour or so now. When I go to Accounts & Sync I see that there are two accounts (even though I only have one account for each). One Twitter & one Facebook account say there was an error with the syncing process.
I unchecked the sync processes that were having errors. I'll let you know if I keep being asked to log in.
I have this problem too. It says my sync is experiencing errors and its cause it logged me out of Facebook. Once I log back in its fine.

I used to have this issue, but I figured out a simple workaround.
I use the FACEBOOK APP to sync and not the adding a Facebook account under the account section in settings. After I deleted the Facebook account there and made a sync with the Facebook App, the annoying prompt went away and hasn't come back since.

After doing this, I bet you don't have your friends profile pictures in the stock SMS application anymore. You also wouldn't have Facebook events in your stock Calendar application.
I have the same problem. Funny thing is my widget works fine gets updates and I can upload a picture from within the widget. If I take a picture, or select one from the gallery, then click Share facebook, it will not upload. started one day last week.
On stock rooted and don't get it hourly or even 2x/day that I can remember, just every morning...sometimes it doesn't make it the first time, usually it re-connects, good til the next morning....
I had the same problem. I had to delete the stock sync and use the FB app's sync option but like mentioned above you lose the profile pics on the stock sms so I downloaded "go sms" and the pictures are back...it beats having to log in every hour for sure.

I would say it's a Facebook issue. It stopped working properly after the recent Facebook update. It affected all versions of the application, including the Epic's stock version of Facebook.
I do actually. But, no calendar sync.
Sent from the Epic that bites.
I can say that my gf and my brother both have the same issue, only reason i can think Samsung isn't attempting a quick fix is the rumored 2.2 update for the 21st of this month, which will probably have an updated app that fixes the problem. Although as important as facebook is to people I am surprised there is no maintenance release that fixes this,
Same issues here. I was thinking it might have had something to do with networking issues - I usually leave wifi and 4g on all the time. I noticed that I usually get the prompts when I leave home in the morning (go out of range of my house's wifi) and when 4g disconnects and reconnects in spotty 4g areas. I was wondering if maybe the session expires when you switch networks. Same thing would happen on my laptop when I would bring it from home to work or a coffee shop. FB might recognize that the connection is different. Meh, just a theory I thought I'd throw out there.
Hi all - I have an extremely busy week and a half ahead of me so I've spent much of the day (which is about all the time I can afford for the foreseeable future) searching for answers but haven't had much luck with some of my questions. I have not had a mobile Windows device since WinMo 6.1 or so, the last few years I have maintained Android phones and tablets all of the machines I service for work are mostly WinXP & Win7...in other words, "I'm a newb" in the world of Windows RT. I won a new 32Gb RT this week and I'm trying to incorporate it into everyday life but not having much luck. I've updated the firmware and checked system updates until it was no longer finding updates after each restart. I've also checked the app store and it shows everything as being installed with no updates.
1) One major issue I'm having is that the "What's new" section in the People app does not update. I've connected my Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts numerous times and the tablet tells me that things are syncing and it may take a few minutes but nothing ever shows up. The accounts do not show up under Options\Accounts either. Any suggestions as to my next step? I've also noticed that the Twitter app I downloaded from the store will not start, it shows the splash screen for the app but then goes back to 'Start.'
2) I've attempted to install some apps that initially showed errors during installation. Those apps do not appear in my "all apps" list but if I go to them in the store it says 'I own the app' and there is no option to install. As I said, this happened with a couple apps but did one specific example is with 'Evernote Touch.' Is the app store somehow showing me apps that aren't compatible with RT?
I appreciate any help or suggestions offered, it seems like this is a fantastic piece of hardware but either I am lost or there is a disconnect somewhere with the software.
1) People hub is kinda slow when it comes to updates - when I connected to twitter, it showed me people who I follow only the second time I opened it, and it was after some time. But it showed right away that I connected twitter in the upper right corner, so if it's not showing there, it's probably not connected. If they are, try waiting and rebooting. Apps that just fail to launch may launch on the second, third, n-th launch, Evernote is always failing to launch for the first time, for example.
2) When the app isn't compatible with RT, you can't install it. Also, you can remove apps, that aren't shown by this script from ms. There is also a troubleshooter for windows store from ms, but I don't remember if it works with RT, but you probably should try using it. Evernote touch is not only compatible with RT, it was written especially for it, so there's a problem with your device.

Hi guys, I'm sorry for the delayed response. I viewed your posts a few days ago and apparently I forgot to respond. The issue was apparently the fact that Google and MS are not playing nicely. Even after I wasn't seeing any new updates the system was still sluggish, maybe it was "settling" as is sometimes required in the Android world. I powered down and charged over night, restarted the next morning and made sure the wifi was connected and within a few hours there were more updates showing up. I updated and that's when my Google accounts quit working and I had to remove then set them up again. I also found the Evernote app hidden within "my apps" in the store app, it was "awaiting install," seems like an update restarted the system while it was installing and it didn't want to finish on it's own.
Everything is great now except for the calendar issue and a few everyday apps that seem to be lacking from the app store. I have yet to figure a work to be able to view my Google Apps calendar for work. I can see my regular Google calendar (can not edit but can see everything) but if I subscribe to my GApps calendar I would only be able to see free/busy because my domain does not provide an option for private calendar sharing.
Thanks again!

Try this, even though its a long shot: open Google Calendar, and browse to Calendar > Calendar settings (via the small cog in the top-right corner) > Calendars > "YOUR NAME" > Scroll down to where it says PRIVATE ADDRESS, and click on the ICAL button. Copy the following link. Now go to calendar.live.com, and click on subscribe (above the "month" button). Paste the URL there, name it, and save! Now check to see if your Hotmail calendar syncs on the app.
That works great for my personal Google account but does not work on my Google Apps account for work. I could subscribe to it but only see free/busy, not detailed information, as our company admin has not turned on private addresses. I understand this is an admin issue and not really a fault of the RT.
The fault lies in the fact that even with my subscribed calendar if I tried to edit something it would only be seen on the Surface. It would not replicate to the actual Google calendar and I would not be able to see it on my other devices. This issue stems from the Google/MS war regarding information sharing. My life is on Google because for a long time MS was light years behind the ease of Google's online features where everything can be done from the browser and then synced to your email client and handheld devices. In this instance, the users who spend good money with both Google and MS on hardware/OS are paying the price.
Thanks for your suggestion C-Lang, I appreciate your time and effort.
I have got the phone 2 weeks ago and I really like it. Everything seems to be working just fine except for the push notifications for the Facebook. Please, don't tell me to uninstall it - I use it for business and also to keep in touch with my family and friends - so telling me not to use it is not helpful. However if there is something you can help me with, I would really appreciate it. Here are some details to make it easier for investigation.
Android version: 12

Facebook version: 348.0.0.39.118
- push notifications are allowed within Facebook (please, see attached screenshot)
- Facebook notifications are allowed on Android system wise (please see attached screenshot)
- Facebook Battery usage set to Unrestricted (please see attached screenshot)
What I have tried so far?
- delete cache, storage, the app and re-install
- pause notifications for 15 minutes and allow again
How do I know it issue on Android?
- I have the same issue on every Android device (tested on Samsung and OnePlus devices, same result)
- everything works just fine on iOS - push notifications are coming on my iPhone 13 Pro and on my iPad
What else am I missing? What can change or setup differently? I would really like to use Pixel as my primary device but this is a major blocker for me. Reaching out to Facebook is pretty much impossible. I am offering up to 50 USD (paying over PayPal) to the person who can help me figure this out for once and for all. I have been asking all around the internet and no-one can help me. If I can't sort it out here, I don't think I can anywhere else.

Alright, well let's check the other basics first.
You have
a) allowed push notifications for Facebook and set Battery usage for Facebook as unrestricted
how about
b) check Background Process Limit (Developer options)
c) check Standby Apps (Developer Options again, scroll down to Apps) and tell me which state your app is in regularly (a messenger app should be at WORKING_SET/ACTIVE even when you "close" it in app drawer/home screen)
d) check your power saver & DnD settings (Do not Disturb can delay notifications)
e) triple check your internet connection - are you using a VPN, are all other apps working as intended with immediate notifications? Is it maybe a "not phone problem"?
f) do you have adaptive battery activated? Try deactivating it, AB can put apps to sleep in order to preserve battery life. Restart phone after making these changes.
e) did you download Pikmin Bloom? (not kidding here, I've seen people report Android 12 notification problems, and after deleting that app it began to work again)
E1) Since it has been reported that a single app can cause havoc, it might be possible that some third-party app is causing these issues. It might be hard to narrow down, but if it truly bothers you, I'd suggest to manually place ALL other non-Google apps to battery -> restricted, to find out if that is the problem. If it fixes your issues, you can slowly narrow it down, by gradually allowing battery usage for other apps again.
Since you did not use the word root once, I assume you are not rooted? Since with root access we could force the Heartbeat Intervals to a ridiculously low number (couple seconds), to see if it's truly a Pixel/software problem.
It might be possible that your problem is caused by Androids DOZE function. It doesn't always work "properly" - there is an internal priority list, and according to that list apps get dozed or are allowed to "call home".
A non-root solution to this (IF it's a doze problem) would be to manually deactivate Doze with ADB (and then check your app - if your problem is fixed then, it's a DOZE/whitelist problem)
There is a thread about this here
Android: completely disabling deviceidle ("Doze") in Android M?

It's also possible that for some odd reason, Whitelist doesn't work as intended (battery not restricted should lead to the app NOT getting dozed)
That can - in theory - be forced with

(see the ADB command list for more information).

Mind though, that it will not stick after a reboot. It's only a temporary solution.
If that solution should work, you could try out

in order to get a more permanent DOZE disabling solution. Even though this will cause your phone to burn faster through battery. If it's a general Android / Android 12 issue, I can't see any other non-root solutions though.
With root, you could easily execute the script/ADB commands after each reboot. But then again, there should be at least one alternative non-root solution out there.
I'll start from the end - my phone is not rooted. I was tempted, but decided not to do so. Now to the questions above:
b) Background Process Limit is set to: Standard limit, I did not change that - should I?
c) Facebook is shown as EXEMPTED (and it is greyed out, I can't change it), Messenger is ACTIVE
d) Power Save is always OFF in my case
e) connection is fine, 100%, I am not using VPN, only local with AdGuard, but the same behavior was without it
f) tried that, did not help - on Samsung, OnePlus and here, too
Not aware of Pikmin Bloom - no idea what is it, so no.
Thanks for coming back to me, I appreciate it.

You shouldn't have to root your phone to get notifications to work. But Morgrain has included everything and more that I would suggest.
A few things: So notifications for this specific Facebook Account work on other Android devices with the same Google Account?
Do all other notifications work? WhatsApp, GMail etc?
Create a new user (Android Settings, System, User) and create a dummy Gmail Account during setup (important to create a new account since I've seen this also resolve notification issues with GMail and a few other apps, its rare but worth a try, and you can delete the Gmail account after the test, limit the information you input and put a nickname/fake info in). Stay logged into this new Google Account on your Pixel during the testing period (whatever it is 30mins, 1hr etc) because notifications won't come in otherwise. Make sure battery saver isn't on, and give Facebook/Messenger apps Unrestricted battery usage along with enabling all permissions under "App Permissions" and under "App Info" enable anything available: Mobile Data & Wifi Unrestricted background data/usage (2 options), Battery: Unrestricted, and under the Advanced section, some apps have 2 or 3 options such as "Modify System" etc - enable all of those also. Force Stop, then open the app to make sure it is running (check to make sure it is running in Developer Options, Running Services). These suggestions can also be tried on your current installation.
Can you maybe try removing the FB app, reinstall and create a new temporary FB Account or even try logging in with a different one - any changes?
The last thing I would do is backup your phone and manually the data for each app (Signal, WhatsApp etc) and force 2 or 3 manual backups using Google Backup (Android Settings, System, Backup), just to make sure everything is backed up. And using an app like SMS Backup Restore by SyncTech, to ensure Calls/SMS are backed up again. Copy all folders to a computer. Then do a factory reset, and during the setup, pick "don't have old phone" then "restore from cloud" - you will be given 5 or 6 options, only pick SMS/MMS and Calls. Then install Facebook and test it. This has worked in the past for notification issues.

No, specific Facebook Account does not work on any Android device at all. It only works on iOS devices. Without any specific settings. I just login to my account and push notifications on iOS are working. No matter what I do on Android - any device - it does not work. And I am not sure if this is account issue or platform issue. But I am inclined to platform issue as I do not understand why would it work on iOS without any problems.
Hello!
A lot of good suggestions here.
I don't have much input so I apologize - I just wanted to say I have no issues receiving Facebook Messenger notifications. I'm on sq1d.211205.017 (December - manually flashed and rooted). I have notifications for Facebook itself turned off, so I can't report there. I didn't have to change any settings at all for Facebook Messenger to work correctly. I also don't use Messenger very much, but once in a while and I just received a Messenger chat the other day.
You could try manually installing the December update, although I'd probably wait for the late January update instead.
I like @Alekos' suggestion of creating a new account on the phone and trying to use the same Facebook account there, without installing any different/additional apps.
In an extreme measure, you could try a factory reset, don't restore anything from Google Backup, and only install Facebook & Messenger, and wait long enough to be able to tell if both are working satisfactorily.
If working, then after that you would have to install further apps in small groups (I would do in the order of the most critical apps that you need), then wait long enough again to test. This has been my standard operating procedure whenever I have weird problems that I just can't solve. Sometimes, I didn't get a solution this way - the problem was common with Samsung's version of Android, but all other times I eventually found the problem in an app that caused issues.

Messenger is working just fine for me. It has been on every Android device.
As for November/December update - I am not sure this is the culprit. Because as mentioned above it was not working on any prior Android devices either regardless of the Android version.
This is the only application I am experiencing issues with.

I apologize, I missed those things. Argh, very strange indeed. That just sucks.
My gut feeling is it's a Facebook setting that's being restored only on Android. I haven't used iOS, so I can only guess, but I know sometimes iOS and Android versions of the same app are different enough, and sometimes going through Facebook's available settings is daunting.
I know the app has a search function for its settings now, but the Notifications setting is obvious enough. If you've already mentioned looking through this, please forgive me:
3-line (pancake) menu
Scroll to the last page of junk
Settings & Privacy
Settings
Notifications
Micro-manage each and every type of category of Facebook notifications
Yeah, man. It's driving me crazy. I can't seem to find the issue for almost 2 years, insane.

I just edited my post above this reply. I might not have suggested anything you haven't already tried, but take a look. I feel your pain, as Google Reminders used to work great for me, but for the last two years, they do everything but actually remind me.
I have set those to Push - all that are relevant to me. I have posted it on screenshot in my 1st post. But thanks for trying, man. I really appreciate it.

Ah yes. I really should wake up before I answer posts. Technology! Good luck, I hope you find the solution.
Will you consider a workaround of changing from Push to something EMail or SMS?

so wait, no facebook account works at all on any android device you've used? That's really odd. A billion FB users!
Can you just try this: Create a new User (it's really easy) and a new throw-away Google Account (easy also) and a new FB account just to test? it will take maybe 5 mins. this will help in narrowing it down (if it does work).
I have tried that. I have created once a dummy account for Fb and used with my present Google Account - no issues at all.
Everything I tried looks like it's Fb account related and specifically on Android. I don't know how to solve it.

I know it's not what you're looking for, and you shouldn't have to do - or maybe that is what you do already, just had to ask.
I mean, I could, but it is not as convenient, not to mention I am more interested into WHY it is not working on Android and no issues on iOS. Can't get my head around this.

Me neither. Problems like this where nothing seems to solve drive me nuts. I may take a screenshot of my Facebook notification settings, set them all to push, and see what happens. I expect I know what'll happen.
Edit: Gotta love the Pixel screenshot "Capture more" button.
Just wondering, have you uninstalled rebooted, and re-installed? Or are you just copying over the apps/data? I had the same issue with Aqua mail, until I uninstalled, rebooted, and re-installed

Same happens when I unbox the phone and start fresh install right out of the box. Or if I install, update to latest version, restart and install all over again. Result is always the same.
This is a Facebook/android issue, I've been dealing with it for 2 or 3 years now across multiple devices.
