Short Version:
Making new Rom. instINCtive Rom? What features do you like? Include what apps? Include what mods? What features of other ROMs make them perfect for you?
Long Version:
Hey INC users. Since Redemptive Revolution hasn't been updated in a while, I've decided to abandon it as the base for my current theme/mod and upcoming themes/mods. (Sorry Lou, loved your rom, but i just need the newest of the new) I was trying to decide what ROM to switch to and I was drawn to the Re-Engineered ROM as it includes the newest version of jchisurf's power control pulldown mod (v2) that updates toggle status. For example, in Skyraider or Redemptive if you toggle wifi with a widget or in settings the pulldown will not reflect that change and will show the incorrect wifi state. In v2 of the mod which Re-Engineered has, this is fixed. Also I was drawn to the speed modifications and ram saving optimizations. HOWEVER, it is completely based on the EVO, and these types of ROMs do not work on my phone.
So, I decided to make my own ROM. In a way it's a kind of update to Redemptive Revolution, because that was my personal favorite ROM. Also, this way, I have a better understanding of what's going on internally when I try to make a theme and it will be easier for me.
So far the ROM is as follows (CONSTANTLY UPDATED) -
Most recent Incredible 2.2 base, all files are based on and from the most recent stock Incredible ROM except...
Framework-res.apk from the most recent EVO update (3.70 compared to redemptive's 3.30) with Jchisurf's power control pulldown mod v2 (updated from v1 found in redemptive)
Myn's Remappable Rosie (with some changes)
Custom Gingerbread-Sense Theme. Retains stock feel but darker and instead of solid greens there are green outlines and green glows. Gingerbread feel but completely custom by me. (Sense apps are not inverted like distINCtion)
"Reengineered" INC apps (not evo like in Reengineered Rom.
Inverted black and green Gmail.
Inverted black and green Facebook
Flashable distINCtion theme zip
Flashable distINCtive Acid theme zip (not released yet)
EDIT:
4in1 Reboot mod
Compressed powercontrol mod (saves space for notifications without losing functionality) (Ex removed those indicator bars and the space they were taking up... icons themselves will tell if enabled or not.)
Sensless Version in addition to Sense Version
Included Apps - Rom Manager, Titanium backup, XDA, Hulu modded flash, Skyraider Hulu app, Adobe Reader, ES File Manager, Pandora, Google suite of apps, Superuser, Call Confirm, DSP Manager, Facebook, Quickoffice, Spare Parts, Wireless tether... should i remove any? add more... if so what app?
***So my question is what else should I include? What would make this a good ROM choice for you? What features, mods, tweaks, or theme elements should i include/do you want? What stock apps should I include? Are there any other apps I should invert other than the ones i alread did? What do you think of instINCtive Rom as the name?***
Thank You!
I miss all the cool screen transitions from Incrom.
could you make a senseless version also?
A ROM with a full Bluetooth stack so I can use my wiimote with all the popular emulators and the modified flash.apk so I can view hulu videos. Oh yea, and the cool Gingerbread system shut down animation.

This ^^ with BT HID mouse & keyboard support & gingerbread sense.
I prefer as stock as possible, even without customized colors.. If I have an issue with the rom, I do not want to wonder if customizations are part of the problem.
Thx for the feedback.
Senseless version finished.
Added hulu modded flash. Now preinstalled .
And I'll look into BT

Should I include...
Skyraider hulu app?
Titanium?
XDA app?
ROM Manager?
Others?
Also I have "re-engineered" the stock apps except they are inc apps instead of evo apps like on re engineered Rom
What apps are bloatware in all you opinions and should be removed?

I say
include
xda
hulu app
and a sense-less version but looks like you already have that one..
and the BT stack for the WII mote.. etc.
thats bout it for me..lol

Definitely Titanium, XDA, ROM Manager, A file manager (EStrongs?), superuser with busybox ( a given I guess ), Pandora, Adfree Android, Dolphin Browser HD, Dropbox, the Google suite of apps (if they let you), a torch app, Quick Boot, and maybe Quadrant. All useful.
Bloat. Hmmm...
Amazonmp3, CityID, htcfootprints, Slacker Radio, My Verizon, Verizon Skype.
At least these are the apks I removed from the system when I rooted.

I won't include Adfree b/c the hosts file is already modified to block ads.
I don't see the purpose for quickboot when the 4in1 reboot mod is already included and quadrant is a pointless app IMHO. HTC flashlight included as a torch app.
As for Dolphin Browser HD and Dropbox... I don't know if those are completely universal apps that everyone uses.
Otherwise all the rest are good suggestions and I will include them thank you.
I'll do my best to "re-engineer" all the apps included, but for some less important ones i may save for a later update.
Assuming i can get permission from rmk, would the inclusion of virtuous buddy be a positive for you all?
THANKS! PLEASE KEEP THE ADVICE AND SUGGESTIONS COMING!
I updated the first post to reflect the changes I've made in the Rom and the apps that are preinstalled.
Let me know if there are any other features you want or apps to be preinstalled or removed.
Yeh screen transitions would be cool. Apps like quickoffice I don't think need to be there.

I can't believe I forgot wifi tether and DSP Manager. I use them all the time.
I like the ROM name.
Additionally, perhaps one of the circle battery mods from this thread.

I love the way the status bar notification toggles look in skyraider 3.5 sense I'd love to see it have that look, no on else has it. it's perfect I think.

+1 for full Bluetooth stack...it would be #1 rom

not sure if this is possible or not but from the Z roms could it be possible to port over the DLNA "connected media" side of things, i know its integrated into the framework but i loved it on the z roms.
Other thing would be nice is the "recent apps" scroller in the pull down menu (i think SkyRaider already has this but i'm not 100% certain)
an inverted boot screen? maybe? been wanting to try one of those custom ones out but didn't want to get my hands dirty in that area
transparent icons/statusbar? (makes themeing the statusbar a lot easier without having to re-do all the icons to remove the black notification background
HTC's voicemail app? i've only seen it a couple of times in very few roms
Themed power control widget? (i've tried this and always had issues with it only stretching the graphic and not even making the buttons completely themed...)
eh, maybe i should include my grocery list lol j/k
great work and i can't wait to see it
What non stock and non google applications would you guys like "re-engineered"
Right now I've got the stock apps and the google apps along with pandora and facebook optimized and trimmed down.
Please suggest essential apps that don't update that often. I don't want to do this for every app in the market and for every update.
Edit: hah just owned the facebook app. Just cut that mofo's MBs in half. Oh and inverted it.

Looks like HID bluetooth from CM6 conflicts with sense libraries. They don't work together. Tried messing with kernels... didn't work. It's beyond my abilities.
Sorry. Doesn't look good...
Guess i should just give up on making the rom huh? Alright I'll drag the folder to the trash.

Hi,
I'm currently running CM6 and loving it, but I'm torn on what to try next... EViO, Baked Snack and VaelPak are all possibilities.
None of the ROM's really have the exact thing I want. Ideally, I'd like a ROM that has the following:
- Sense E-mail App
- Sense Calendar App
- Sense Lock Screen
- Sense Status Bar (with Custom Battery Icon)
- AOSP Contacts & Dialer
- AOSP Messaging (SMS/MMS)
- AOSP Gallery
- 4G Support
- FM Radio
- WiFi/Wired Tether
- Sprint Bloatware Removed (apart from Sprint TV)
- ADK Laucher (easy to add after the fact)
Any ideas on how to get this? I wish I was a Dev... I would build my own
I have been really happy with my testing of Evio. I have installed just about every rom in an attempt to find the perfect rom for me. The 2 i ussually come back to are Damage Control and Evio.
Some are upset that Dc hasnt had an update in a while but in my opinion it works well and is stable and there arent a lot of reasons they need a big update unles they have something to actually improve it.
As for evio VERY very solid rom. My suggestion if you like CM is to try one of these 2 (since evio is on your list i would go witht hat one) Remove all the sense ui crap and then search the forum for ASOP phone/contacts and messaging apks that were modded to work with sense roms. I know i have seen galelry and am pretty sure i ahve seen phone/contacts. the only one i dont think i have seen is messagin. (i am a handcent fan so havent really watched for ASOP messaging).
once you find the apks of the modded apps you can simply remove the Sense versions and replace with the ASOP version. This would give you pretty much what you are looking for at least for the hard parts. the bloat ware and launcher you can easily adapt to any rom. evio also comes with wired and wifi tether apps preinstalled.
anyway of the 3 i would try Evio next and good luck getting everything for your perfect rom set up.

I looked but couldn't find the AOSP apk's that I need. Do you think it will work if I just extract the apk's that I like from CM6, by copying them to my SD card and then moving them to my laptop? I can see MMS.apk, phone.apk, contacts.apk, and Gallery3D.apk in /system/app. Are there any other files that need to be copied with these?
Any help would be much appreciated.
is there any way to get sense apps like the Music, camera, and phone onto vanlla phones or on cyanogen
I was hoping there was a way to get the dialer from a sense rom onto any stock rom. I actually may try that out later this week and see if it works (doubtful).
It requires sense framework for the Widgets as I've asked this before, as far as camera mods and what not I've seen that on vanilla roms but I'm sure there are geniuses that dwell on XDA that could figure it out.
Sent from my Google Phone
Eventually, there will be hacked up ROMs with bits and pieces from every corner of the earth - I wanted the same thing on my Nexus (stock with the HTC cam) and there were a few options (though all had bugs here and there). Given the G2 was *just* permrooted, it might be a few weeks/months before you see some really creative ROMs.
Other stuff, like the lockscreen, can be changed with apps like widgetlocker and such.
You should definitely try out the Desire Z rom, though. It's all kinds of awesome, with new features that weren't there in previous versions of Sense. Hell, the camera app alone is worth it - makes the stock Android camera app look like a joke.
Sense apps have never and will never work on a non-sense based rom as it has far too much reliance on lots of frameworks (its a messy area).
The closest you will get is a rom like SuperVillain (out later today) that is a Sense based rom but with Rosie (Launcher) and widgets removed so looks like vanilla but still has all the sense apps working.
Keep an eye on villainrom.co.uk or the dev section here on xda for the rom release of SuperVillainZ

Enomther's TheOfficial has the option of both the HTC Camera and the HTC Music app - plus you can install the HTC IME (onscreen keyboard) easily as an APK (there's even a kitchen that lets you customize the colors and such).
Your sig claims you've owned 4 android phones. So you're obviously not a super noob. So my question to you is -
Did searching just not occur to you, or did you honestly believe you were not the 7,548th person to ask this question?
I am not asking about sense widgets because im aware that i need to have the sense framework running but im just wondering about the 2 apps Camera and Music. i know that enmothers rom gives you the option to install the 2 if you want and am just wondering if its possible to do the same for cyanogen.
also i have used the Sense Roms for the G2 but i was never really a fan of non Vanilla android.

A couple of apps may have been REBUILT to work without sense, but its not an easy job and certainly isn't something a lot of people have done.
the HTC IME keyboard was pretty much an entire rewrite of the code based on what the htc one looked like, its not the apk from sense just moved over.
I can't comment on the camera or music, but I imagine these are the same.

There has been a sense app ported to stock. Enom ported the HTC camera to his stock ROM for the Nexus... I remember running it.. That was a great ROM
Sorry, I see this has already been covered... But I know the app wasn't rewritten, it was a straight port, with the stock framework rewritten, so it was a straight app port

I have the stock 3.26.605.1 rom deodexed on my phone that I have been working on to make myself my own rom with rom kitchen. What I am wondering is, how do I go about getting the power control widgets in the pull down?? Does someone have or maybe make an update.zip or mm that will add these? I already have the 6 bar signal meter and circle battery with % with location removed and don't really want to lose them. No I don't know how to code so that isn't an option. Thanks for any help!
SkyRaider Sense 3.5
I recommend SkyRaider Sense 3.5 as a solution for getting the power widgets on the notification drop-down.
You can check out the Official Thread here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764787
EDIT: Location icon is removed with SR; you can apply 6-bar and circle battery meters. See the OP in the above thread.
Yeah I was running skyraider 3.5. But I wanted something "my own". Thats why I want to be able to add the power widgets to the stock rom. Because I am playing with and learning the "kitchen". That way I have something for myself that is to my taste.
Wow!! I didnt think I was asking for the impossible here. I have read tons and tons of post and I know that the files where posted on here till that thread was closed down due to peoples behavior.
It is not that it is impossible, but there are many working parts. The drop down notification is in the Services.jar file. You need a framework apk that came from a ROM that had the notification drop down (for the added png files). The 6 bar signal and battery % is also in the services jar file. There are a few ROMS that have this combo. What color are you looking to theme?
Honestly I was hoping for just the stock look with power widgets. I work outside all day and the transparent drop downs are hard to see outside. Man I wish I was a little more tech savvy. I tried the framework from Nilsp (hope thats spelled right) business sense 3.1 but the notifications are kinda hard to see in the drop down. So i am back to stock framework.............. If there was a way to add it to Virtuous I would just his framework.
I posted a theme for Redemption in the themes section. I believe it will flash over Virtuous. Check out the screen shots and let me know if that is the look. I have a flashable zip that can give you that.
Yeah, I like that!! But is there anyway to do it without the transparent pull down? And I have big hands so I am not real fond of the 5 app wide app drawer.
I checked it out again and, I love the status bar theme, the pulldown widgets and scooby fonts!!!! I am just not a big fan of the transparent pulldown, 5 wide app drawer and rosie remaps.......... But at this point I willing to settle with I can get! LOL
So I downloaded your theme, deleted the rosie mod and clock mod. Flashed it and it works perfect on Stock deodexed 3.26.605.1 framework!! The market is force closing on me but I am fixing that as I am typing. Thank you so very much!!!!!!
Be wary that the initial port of the power widgets to the incredible contained a lot of EVO code to the point where you were pretty much running on the EVO framework (the framework-res.apk was code for code an EVO apk). ihtfp (and I a little) have been working on a port to un-modified Sense ROMs such as Virtuous. Once we do, you can be assured we'll distribute the files accordingly or make a how-to.
Oh thanks and good to know. This would probably explain why I always get boot loops when I try to put my framework into the mod lol

I used the files that lllboredlll put into his Incredible rom. Wasn't that ported specifically for the Incredible. I have not experienced any boot loops when using this on the Inc framework. I initially tried to utilize what was in Redemption (Evo hybrid) and THAT put me into a boot loop.
Just wanted to give a personal thanks to Spence341 for all his help and hard work!! And thanks to all the developers that made this mod possible. I wish I was half as good as they are with this stuff!
Great theme Spence341. I took your files and fonts and added them to my framework and ran it through the kitchen again so I have it all zipaligned and everything. Runs smooth as butter and looks very awesome! Even the wife wanted it on her phone!
Thanks again
All the credit goes to lllboredlll and JsChiSurf. They did the development... glad it worked for you. Love to see some screen shots when you are done.

Yes. It won't bootloop, but what they didn't tell you/refused to tell you is that they kanged the EVO stuff that jschisurf made for his *EVO* in the first place. They "ported" this by copy and pasting smalis, rather than the code itself. Thus making it an EVO framework. They just kanged the entire framework-res, didn't even copy files. If you look into the AndroidManifest, it has permissions for WiMAX.
So the mod you have in your theme thread, is it strictly Inc framework? What are the negatives to using it as it is is "kanged" (that's a term I haven't heard in a while). I was trying to achieve what I wanted with my limited ability.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
It's pretty much about 99% Inc framework, ported *the right way* by ihtfp himself. It's just nice not to have EVO framework on your phone if you're not using an EVO, no? He also added a few more features, such as an updated look and not needing the txt file (that's not released yet though).
Screen shots
O.K. its been busy around here! Gotta love the holidays! So I finally got some screen shots taken. I think it turned out really well!
Alright.. so we all probably use virtuous rom, gingervillian, cyanogen or miui.
I wanna know why everyone chooses each one.. I've flashed all and am just curious to why everyone else chooses the roms they do.. what really makes you stay with the rom you have??
I run miui. To me cyanogen lacks full customization. And has no benefitial features over miui. I get same battery life and phone runs smoothly at 1ghz as it would on any other rom. ONLY issue is random reboots. Which is a theme issue not a rom issue.. And I don't care for sense roms.. to me they slow the phone down.. although I am waiting for cm7 to become stable before my first flash.
Sent from my G2.
Currently I am running MIUI. I'm still getting used to it but overall I like it. I love the UI. It looks clean and it's quick.
Stock post ota deodexed.... because every other rom gives me some sort of problem that there is no guide to fixing and I don't have the time to troubleshoot the bull****
Whats deodexed mean??

The 1.2Ghz clock speed from the God speed thread.
Anything higher than that affects my battery and I don't see any obvious benefit as I don't play any games that need a higher CPU.
virtuous because of eye candy and htc streams are awesome!!
which rom saves battery most?
I use CM6.1.1
I previously tried Virtuous because I always wanted a Sense phone but realized Sense actually sucks, well the messaging, gallery and dialer at least.
I use my phone heavily for A2DP bluetooth streaming and apperantly cyanogenmod is pretty much the best rom for bluetooth audio quality, also the added equalizer feature is awesome. Its just like the stock rom whish I loved since my nexus days but with just the right amount of customization.
MIUI looks annoying as hell, why not just buy an iDevice if your into that UI?

When you install an app, sometimes it comes with an odex file (i believe it's an extension of some sort to the app) When you are de-odex'd, it merges the extension (dot odex file) with the apk. The only reason I wanted this rom was to use themes for stock roms. I also found that it boots the phone up a hell of a lot faster.
Highly recommended for people who want the stock feel but like small mods here and there.

That's not a rom...
that's a kernel........... *facepalm*
I run Virtuous for a few reasons:
1. camera - the stock Android camera app is abysmal. Few options and not easy to use in the least.
2. music player - genre support is a big one for me
3. Sense - I use LauncherPro, but I prefer the sense contacts and other features.
4. I installed the 3D gallery from stock, so I have access to both. One other small benefit of the otherwise useless Sense gallery is a scrollable 'share' pop-up. On stock ROMs (or CM), if you have too many options in this menu, you can't scroll so you can't access them. Sense lets you scroll the 'share' list.

Not everything about miui is iphonish... and even the parts that are you have options.. the menus? I turn those to the standard grid. the icons? Not all are uniformed "squares" all thou the theme is use they are. But I actually am I fan of uniformed icons. I think it looks cleaner.. imho. What about miui looks annoying?? I admit the original launcher is lame. But I don't use it.. I think docks and notification bars are lame. I don't use either and rock adw.. swipe down for notifications and up for apps. plus you can't tell me miui lock screen isn't sexy..

Can a rom be made with nothing in it, no sense, email, txt, nothing. where you install everything you actually want from recovery. every time i install a new rom i rip out everything i don't want using titanium backup. i use my own launcher, and download all my own apps off the android market. I was just wondering i as i never use the stuff like 4g, hdmi, Netflix, YouTube, or 90% of the other stuff that gets packed in with all the other releases.
all i do ever do with my phone is listen to music, txt, check email, check the time, and once in a blue moon get a call from someone. nothing else. I use all paid apps like launcher pro, power amp pro and the like.
just wondering if its possible, and thanks again. currently using synergy but bugs keep popping up so looking to switch, just want something simplistic lol.
Try dsixda's Android Kitchen, use it to modify ROMs and such link
I'd like to see this too. Perhaps a sense based ROM that allows for just about any modifications. I am not a developer nor am I to savvy on some of the terms but I believe a stock "deodexed" ROM would suffice. I am gonna try it. I'll let you know what I find.
thanks tropicalbrit, ill try that and see how far i can get. but my ultimate goal would be no sense at all, if its possible, just apps that i chose off the market

Start with an AOSP base then. I suggest Deck's or SalvageMod
Lithid already made that rom for you. It is in the dev section somewhere. He called it like bare aosp gb or something. Omgb is pretty close too. That one is by r2doesinc.
Salvagemod is also tiny. Like 58mbs without gapps, and not many apps
I agree with tropicalbrit. I would start with a watered down version of an ASOP rom and go from there. Maybe even try a CM rom. Although CM is loaded with a lot of things too. also you can unzip the file and take a lot of the apk's out there.
tried decks, but there is no market app, so..... lol. how would i add the market? downloaded the apk but it wont show up in recovery and there is no file browser in the rom, so cant install it there lol. this will be a very long night
edit: not to be a party pooper but i give up. ima just stick with sense and keep tearing everything out. just easier
you add the market with gapps. you can find them at cyanogenmod. They are flashable zip file.
I have been down this road too, and in fact, just using a stock sense rom (I use Fresh by Flipz) and stripping everything you don't want is indeed the easiest.
