Hi, i connect my DHD to my car stereo via the micro USB port at the DHD's bottom.
I subsequently get a prompt that asked me whether i want to have the USB behave as a charge only, SD card, HTC sync, Internet tether... I choose SD card.
Here is where the problem is. Audio works fine, i am able to get it streamed to my car stereo over USB. But when i try to play video files , the phone reports that the SD card is locked (since the car steroe is accessing the sd card for audio files i believe).
Are there any work around this? I would like to watch video and have the sound from the video audible through my car stereo speakers, all through the micro usb port.
I used to be able to do this using the iphone dock port.
This will never work unless your car stereo has a stereo/mini-stereo Aux in.

I just bought a new car yesterday & have a question about playing music through the stereo. My car is a equipped with a 3.5mm & a USB. Basically it is setup so that you can play your ipod/iphone through the car stereo.
I can play music from my phone using the 3.5mm AUX but there is not a lot of volume. Not only that but the quality seem to be degraded.
I can connect my phone via the sync cable but music will only play when I select disk drive when asked for the usb connection type. The sound quality & volume is excellent but I can't use my playlists on the phone. Is there a way to get music to play through the car stereo when activesync connection is selected?
Or is there a cable like the iphone cable that will allow me to do this?
How good are you with wiring? Their are pretty easy to install car kits that will work better

If you check the manual for the stereo system, are there any playlist formats that it does support?
Perhaps just by saving your playlists in a different format, you might get it to work...
normally in my stereo which only has the 3.5mm headphone jack I find that if you turn the phone all the way it up sounds very distorted, I tend to turn it down 2 notches from max and adjust my car stereo volume from there
i also found that to be very helpful with quality also
Update:
My car stereo will read the folders on my imagio when disk drive is selected for the USB connection. I can scroll to individual folders & songs that I want to hear. There are still too problems though.
1. I would rather navigate my music folders via the phone with an activesync connection.
2. When I have the disk drive connection selected I am unable to use TomTom.
I can use the AUX jack but I don't get as much volume. On the highway at 75MPH I have to have the volume on the stereo maxed & it still isn't loud enough.
Is there a solution that would allow me to use the USB connection?
I would prefer a solution that is only going to cost me a couple of bucks
Previously I did have one of the FM modulators to play music through the stereo. I am aware of lowering the volume on the phone to reduce the noise.
Thanks to those of you that have replied to my original post.
It looks like your phone doesn't have enough "power" to feed your AUX in.
Normaly you should use a line-signal to feed your AUX.
What you can try is to amplify your signal from you phone before you send it in you AUX.
If your car stereo have a bluetooth option, you can pair it for sound!
Hi all,
I am about to buy a (yamaha) AV receiver. On the specs page it mentions USB Input for iPod/iPhone, USB Memory and Portable Audio Player.
Can i use the HTC Desire as a usb audio player???
I mean i want to connect the desire via usb to the AV receiver, to use it as a a player and not as a mounted SD card (usb memory). This way it will be charging while i can change songs, playlists, fwd, rew, etc....
Has anyone done this?
I know i can connect it to aux port (jack->RCA) but it will not be charging.
I assume that same question applies for car stereos with USB (usb ports that support Portable Audio Player and not just usb memory loaded with music files)
ps. i searched for similar threads on xda but could not find one....
No, you can't play audio files over USB like that. Only with the 3.5mm headphone jack. It's also damaging to the battery to charge it between full charges and in short intervals.
I assume that this is a software limitation.
So far i 've used only the official rom and the revolution 3.0.
Is there a chance that some other rom (maybe aosp) supports usb media player?
I noticed on a samsung galaxy s that there are three options for usb connection: usb mass storage, samsung kies(something) and media player.
For the battery issue, lithium batteries are supposed to be less vulnerable to poor usage but why assume short intervals?I want the desire to charge simultaneously so i can leave it playing for a couple of hours.
I have a Honda City 2010 Model and it has a usb connection for Audio play (Mp3) , if I conncet any USB storage it will easily detect and play the songs, but if I connect my phone via USB cable it will not detect it. I was wondering if anyone has a solution for it or if there is any application for this purpose
by the way the Audio system can detect IPOD as it is mentioned in guidebook but I don't have IPOD
I would have thought it would need a type of driver that can only be put on when being made.
Something that tells your stereo what has connected, and what to do with it.
Apple being the most popular choice is what most manufacture goes with. If your stereo has line in. you could get a cable off eBay. (Looks like an earphone jack socket. Same as the top of your note 2.) Or what I use, a FM transmitter. I use a belkin tunecast.

I remember when I had nokia phone there was one application to use FM to play the songs in phone on car audio system. is there any app for android to do so? or is NoteII capable of doing the same thing?
No there is no such app because it's actually a hardware fm transmitter where as note 2 doesn't hav that
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I use my Tab in the car to watch videos with the bluetooth connected to the car.. Videos from the SD card work perfect but when i connect my hard disk via OTG cable the audio doesnt play from the car speakers
I bought an Usb C hub (not Samsung's) with ethernet, hdmi out, USB 3 ports, card reader, power delivery and headphone Jack. It works well but when I connect it I can't hear sound through the speakers ( I can hear if I connect headphones to the tablet or to the hub).
Does anyone have a solution, or tried a hub without this problem?
I solved it. Go to Developer options/Multimedia and check "Prevent USB audio routing". Now you won't be able to connect headphones to the hub (unless you uncheck that option) but since you can use the tablet 's headphone Jack it's not a problem.
