I just bought a new car yesterday & have a question about playing music through the stereo. My car is a equipped with a 3.5mm & a USB. Basically it is setup so that you can play your ipod/iphone through the car stereo.
I can play music from my phone using the 3.5mm AUX but there is not a lot of volume. Not only that but the quality seem to be degraded.
I can connect my phone via the sync cable but music will only play when I select disk drive when asked for the usb connection type. The sound quality & volume is excellent but I can't use my playlists on the phone. Is there a way to get music to play through the car stereo when activesync connection is selected?
Or is there a cable like the iphone cable that will allow me to do this?
How good are you with wiring? Their are pretty easy to install car kits that will work better

If you check the manual for the stereo system, are there any playlist formats that it does support?
Perhaps just by saving your playlists in a different format, you might get it to work...
normally in my stereo which only has the 3.5mm headphone jack I find that if you turn the phone all the way it up sounds very distorted, I tend to turn it down 2 notches from max and adjust my car stereo volume from there
i also found that to be very helpful with quality also

My car stereo will read the folders on my imagio when disk drive is selected for the USB connection. I can scroll to individual folders & songs that I want to hear. There are still too problems though.
1. I would rather navigate my music folders via the phone with an activesync connection.
2. When I have the disk drive connection selected I am unable to use TomTom.
I can use the AUX jack but I don't get as much volume. On the highway at 75MPH I have to have the volume on the stereo maxed & it still isn't loud enough.
Is there a solution that would allow me to use the USB connection?
I would prefer a solution that is only going to cost me a couple of bucks
Previously I did have one of the FM modulators to play music through the stereo. I am aware of lowering the volume on the phone to reduce the noise.

It looks like your phone doesn't have enough "power" to feed your AUX in.
Normaly you should use a line-signal to feed your AUX.
What you can try is to amplify your signal from you phone before you send it in you AUX.
If your car stereo have a bluetooth option, you can pair it for sound!

The stereo deck in my car has a USB port that I use with my 8 gig microdrive to store music on. My question is, why not be able to plug the 8525 into it and run audio and video through the car stereo?
Does anyone know of any software that would allow that?
Wouldn't WM5torage work for that?
I use it in the car, but I get terrible noise interference when the phone is transmitting internet stuff. It's almost unusable.
I'm using an FM transmitter though. Any ideas.... sorry if I'm hijacking your post.

That's my method of car audio
i hacked my OEM wired headset to have a 1/8" male miniplug, and a pair of RCA connectors.. plugs right into my aftermarket headunit.
wm5storage is what you need. Makes your phone look like a flash drive. You will have to disable advanced network functionality for it to work: Settings\Connections\Usb to PC

I don't have a USB or tape deck in my car. With the FM transmitter and the tape adapter in my other car, I still get noise when playing streaming music from SelectRadio (XM,Sirius streams) & incoming calls. The noise is like when I put my phone near unshielded speakers. I had the same problem w/my wizard. Any ideas?

I remember using FM transmitters before they started becoming popular- used it for about a month and just got fed up with all the interference. Best way to go is a hard wired solutions as other posters suggested.
Most modern stereos come with an 'AUX IN'. A2DP is also becoming a feature on higher end stereos- not sure how well it streams the music though.

I use a JVC KD-BT1 headunit in my car which supports bluetooth audio. With the JVC I can sync my phone and make phone calls through the stereo and I can also play all the audio from the phone over the bluetooth as well as control Windows Media Player. It makes for a VERY convienient and easy setup to use once configured. Also the sound quality is amazing. I was surprised that I was listening to music from my phone as it sounded like I was listening to it right off of a CD.
Now that I've moved on to the AT&T Tilt/8925/Kaiser everything still works exactly the same. The headunit even pulls up my phonebook and can make calls via voice dialing or voice command built into the phone.
Sorry to sound like an ad but I really love my setup. If you have any questions I'd be glad to answer them... or even snap a pic of the install I did in my car if you'd like to see that. Now... of course this whole post won't mean much to you if you don't want to change out your factory headunit...

I have a HTC Touch which I am currently using the Pocket Player software to stream my music from my PC which is located upstairs. I can connect the Touch to my Stereo amplifier through a USB/Jack cable and play the music through my Hifi speakers rather than headphones but I was wondering if it would be possible for me to transmit the audio to my amplifier by way of Bluetooth. It would cerntainly allow me the freedom of changing tracks on my phone sitting in my armchair rather than sat next to my amplifier through a cable. I.E Streaming music from my PC through Wi-FI, via my HTC Touch through bluetooth.
Hope this makes sense. Has anyone done it and is there a noticible difference in sound quality when sending music by bluetooth rather than a wired connection.
I have seen various Bluetooth type devices on ebay and amazon that claim to do this type of thing but as I have never tried Bluetooth I am a little sceptical and not sure exactly what is required. I assume that as my Touch can send Bluetooth beam I would only need a reciever to connect the Jack plug from my amp, is this correct? Or would it be better to buy a jack transmitter/receiver for the job.
I don't want to spend a whole lot of money doing this just to test so can anyone recomend a device.

I am having a weird isssue. Just activated this phone and was using a Optimus S before this where everything worked pretty well but was slow.
I have my Motorola BT for hands free headset in the car. It's probably at least 3 years old but has always worked great with my tablets and other devices. I usually have my BT headset on in and a AUX cable in the headphone jack. I would play music from Google Play on my stereo and incoming/outgoing calls would automatically be routed to my headset. This all worked fine on Optimus.
I tried the same setup on my ET4G and when I try to make a call over BT headset I get no Audio in my headset. Also after that any music I play on Google Play, Pandora, etc doesn't get output to 3.5mm Aux jack. I pull out the headphone jack and no music is output to the external Speaker. It's as if the ET4G is possibly trying to output to my headset and doesn't let audio thru. However I don't hear any music thru my headset as it doesn't have A2DP.
A reboot will fix the 3.5mm jack and external speaker.
Any suggestions?
If you haven't already done it, go into BT settings, click on the settings for your device, and uncheck "Media audio".
Not sure if this has been covered or not, but I recently found that a cheap AUX cable plugged into my headphone jack and into my car AUX jack didn't produce any music through my car speakers
The car "recognized" the phone and went into AUX mode, but the phone didn't recognize the car and produced sound from the phne external speaker.
I found some threads somewhere that talked about cables and impedance, but I found an easy fix: Force headset mode.
There seem to be lots of apps that will toggle your phone to force it in and out of headset mode. I picked one at random from the googleplay store which allowed me to create a widget that toggles forced headset on and off (toggleheadset2 by ddubtech.com).
I also use a Garmin Nuvi 660 as a bluetooth speaker.
When my phone is connected to the Nuvi via bluetooth I can make and receive calls through the Nuvi. When I toggle the forced headset mode on and plug into the car AUX port, I can listen to music using the car audio.
I wasn't sure what would happen if you had somthing plugged into the headset jack of the phone, but also had a bluetooth connection to a mic and speakers (the Nuvi). Turns out they work together smoothly; music through AUX pauses when an incomming call starts, then switches automatically to the Nuvi mic and speakers for the duration of the call, then automatically switches back to playing music through the car AUX audio.

We here at iBOLT would love to find out what percentage of Samsung Galaxy S4 users are listening to streaming music from their handset while in the car. As your S4 has access to great music Apps like Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn, Slacker etc. it would be great to find out what percentage are driving a car equipped with car-stereo that features Bluetooth Audio Streaming (so called "A2DP" profile). If not, what kind of speaker do you have set up?
Don't have a car, but when I ride my motorbike I use the S4A to listen to music through my bluetooth headset in my helmet.
And if I were to buy a car, the ability to pair it with my phone (also for a2dp) is definitely important.
I stream both Internet content and content stored on my device. The content isn't what's important. What's important is the ability to stream the content through bluetooth to the radio.
my car has a Galaxy Tab 2 7" in my dash board so most of my music is played right off the 16GB MicroSD Card in the tablet, but when I do want to stream from my Subsonic server at home I do it through my phone. I do have a BT Headset (Samsung HS3000) which supports A2DP wired into my car speakers, but from my phone the volume is super low for some reason, so I usually just plug my phone into the 3.5mm headset plug I have also hooked up in my car.
I just use simple wired headphones because my bluetooth set fell off my head and shattered to tiny bits on the floor it's funny cause it still works but there's no way to get it back together again. I only use play music at the moment. I'd rather not stream because it bites into my data plan with sharp pointy teeth. That crap leaves marks!
Well I use my Plantronics Bluetooth headsets while I am in the car or on my bike...the music quality is superb and it just makes me to enjoy the track with driving though and its quite easy to answer the calls even so I just love my headsets they are pretty awesome one to use.....
I like listen to streaming music while driving, cause it can make me sober when drive.:laugh:

Is your car stereo a kenwood? I used to be an installer and a lot of kenwood bluetooth models have a default setting to play bluetooth audio through only one speaker. This had me stumped for a while, but what you need to do to change it is to put it in the "standby" source, and then access "detailed settings" and look for a setting I believe is labeled bluetooth HF audio or something, enter that setting and you can change it from "front/front only" to "all". It took a while for me to finally find it because you need to be on the standby source and access the settings. You'd think to be able to change it while in the bluetooth source. Hope that solves your issue.
