My unbranded non-rooted Desire would not update to a higher version than 2.09.405.8. While the OTA update to 2.10.405.2 downloaded it never installed - no errors, nothing. I tried to do it with update.zip but it never succeeded.
The regular reminders about the available download were annoying me (and I'm a compulsive updater) and so I decided to downgrade to see what would happen. I successfully installed 1.21.405.2 but can't get back to 2.09.405.8 or any other version. Using PB99IMG files to update to either 2.09.405.8 or 2.10.405.2 resulted in the following error.

Following advise on another forum I downloaded and installed the latest RUU file 2.29.405.5 and it returned the following error.
ERROR [152]: IMAGE UPDATER ERROR
The Desire reported the same Partition Update error as mentioned above.
The same happened for the 2.29.405.2 RUU file also.
The 2.09.405.8 RUU file fails installation with ERROR [110]: FILE OPEN ERROR.
The only RUU file that worked was the 1.21.405.2 version so don't know what to do next???? Its wrecking my head now - why did I bother in the first place?

Hi all,
Have been having problems with my desire rebooting itself for a while now.
A few months ago, this resulted in the phone getting stuck at the first HTC screen. At the time, after searching the forums for an answer, I downloaded the HTC WWE ruu, and installed it with no problems, which brought the phone back to life.
So when the same thing happened yesterday, I thought I'd do the same thing again. I didn't have the RUU I used last time to hand, so I downloaded the latest one from shipped roms -
(RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe).
The update process started OK, but failed with error 152: Image Update Error
So I clicked on Recover, and followed the steps. When I unplugged the usb cable, I was presented with the white RUU screen, which showed:

I thought it might be a corrupt download, so I hunted down a few other downloads of the same file, but they all had the same MD5 - bae5f3e1bf9f7e2e7d47d5e51254103b.
Now I am at a loss, and any help you can provide would be appreciated.
If I could just get it back to sticking at the HTC screen, I could return it for a replacement (its still under warranty).
More information in case it helps:
Unbranded desire purchased from play.com last year
I dont have a gold card
Previous working android install was 2.29.405.5, installed by OTA update.
Phone is not rooted - have never attempted this.

SOLVED
Believe it or not, I managed to flash the stock RUU after placing the phone in a plastic bag in the freezer for five minutes.
The inspiration came from this post.

Many thanks to janielsen for this (somewhat scary) suggestion.
I need help lads.
My Desire is suffering from the rebooting problem, so I thought I'd get it back to stock condition and get it fixed before the warranty runs out.
Ok, I need to unroot and restore the stock ROM on my HTC Desire.
I'm using an RUU from Shipped ROMs.It works fine until it gets to the radio part. The radio part is what is failing for some reason.
I get a message saying the radio part fails, but it's the same radio that is currently on my phone.
After I get the message about it failing, I get this come up on the white screen of the HBoot menu when I unplug the device.
For reference, this is what I get after the failed attempt.

Is this fixable?
Can it be solved by sending it off to HTC? I am still within the two year warranty period.
Well if they replace whole motherboard in repair, broken radio doesn't matter. Propably it's a software problem and it will be overwritten. Of course if you want to try fixing the radio before getting it to recovery, you can root, s-off and try to flash another radio on fastboot.
I´m trying to restore my desire to factory RUU with RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed but get error.

HOw many times a Phone can be flashed ?
i try but not work
your phone is not bricked, read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275632
this helped me out when it happened to me.
The OP got a Radio-brick. And a Radio brick can only be fixed by HTC. So I am pretty sure we cannot help him.
Hello there,
a friend tried to upgrade my HTC G2 T-Mobile phone and in the process, something happened and the phone wont boot completely anymore. It gets stuck at the HTC screen and wont load any further.
I read a few articles which suggested that I download some PC10IMG.zip file onto my memory card and boot the phone by holding the volume key and pressing power which I did. upon booting, this is what appeared on the phone:

Please, please and please again, someone help because I dont know jack about these stuff. I've been reading alot of stuff about ADB and Gingerbread and stuff, but I still dont get anything.
PLEASE HELP!
hopefully your ok, but you my want to log on to freenode for some real time help so you don't cause further damage. after the root process where you are is common as if you changed from ag2 hboot to a dz or whatever the system partition will change and it won't boot. all you would do at this point is flash a rom via recovery. but if you flash that pc10img then you may have restored the factory recovery and this may be more difficult.
so log onto freenode now so you can get some quick help

Thanks demkantor, haven't really used freenode before but will try. Thanks once again.
By the way it's possible that your phone is not True S-OFF, also you're using a SHIP hboot instead of an engineering, which might not let you update the partitions etc. I don't know much details on it but I'm using an engineering hboot as provided by the cyanogenmod unlocking/rooting guide.
