Are you using a custom ROM or stock ROM?
For editing the registry, you could try using Total Commander.

Use Resco Explorer or Total Commander. Those programs are able to overwrite \Windows\ directory.

Copying & editing files in \Windows directory

Hi,
Anyone knows how to edit files in the \Windows directory ? I have tried copying files into the directory, but there seems to be error saying the area is protected. Is there anyway around it ?
Appreciate anyone's help.
Try total commander: http://www.ghisler.com/ce.htm
That should allow you to make the necessary changes.
for me resco explorer works too

Need help extracting gwes

Hey all,
I am trying to change the wait symbol animation on my PPC, and have read up on it, but all the directions say I need to copy the gwes.exe.0409.mui from the windows folder, modify it, and overwrite the old one with the modified. Unfortunately, I can't even copy it out of the windows folder. Seems like no one can get it to work very well.

Does anyone know how I can copy and then overwrite the file?
Come on, I know someone here must know how to do this.
use a program like gsfinder+
Hey Sleuth,
I've tried using GSFinder+ and Resco File Explorer. On both programs, it will let me use the copy command, but when I try to paste it in another folder it says that the file cannot be copied. Any ideas?
Basically, I'm hoping there's an easier way to get at the file than dumping the whole ROM.
Same problem here, any ideas?

How to change directory permissions

I want to replace some of the graphics used by HTC Home. When I try to store my new files in the /Windows directory with the same name as the existing files, the system tells me I don't have permissions to write over a read-only file.
I cannot disable the read-only flag, and I read this forum and all others in XDA-developers before giving up.
Can anyone tell me how to change permissions?
Thanks,
George
I have the same question ....
I can copy over files .... but not, rename or delete.
I to have searched for this.
Great question argie.
try using resco explorer or gsfinder or total commander...they can do the job
if you need to modify the htc home i suggest trying hhc (htc home customizer)......

you simply press and hold the file until the options appear in the taskbar, then you can choose open with then you specify which program you are going to open and re-writing the file you mean

HTC TP2 ROM manipulation

Yesterday, I tried copying the HTCSendorSDK.dll through ActiveSync. I got Access Denied and though that the dll must be in use. Then I used File Browser on the phone to copy the file to another folder. It said that it can't copy a file included in the ROM. I haven't made any other changes and since then Opera and Weather don't connect. Internet Explorer is able to browse the web, vxUtils says I have two valid IPs and I'm able to use HTTP GET and Ip lookups.
Any ideas if me attempting to copy the ROM included file screwed something up?
Any other ideas for troubleshooting?
Thanks
Chris
use something like total commander to copy the file.
you should be able to find a .cab to install total commander, which will allow you to copy or move the file.

You can always delete replaced files that were in rom. This will make the system revert to the original file that was overwritten. This always works without issue unless the overwritten file was something that gets changed or updated like certain .ini files, etc...
for overwritting system files, I recommend Resco file explorer. It is hands down the best file/registry explorer/editor. Google beta 2 for a free trial.
