Been playing with my HD7 (TMo USA) for two days now. Main problem's been that it's highly buggy.
I left it overnight to charge, and when I turned it on in the morning, everything was disconnected (no updates from Internet) as the Wifi connection was off. Went to the settings app, and only the first three options (ringtones & sounds, theme, and airplane mode) were even present. The entire rest of the menu panel was not even visible for some reason, so I couldn't enable Wifi.
I then restarted-- it connected to Wifi, slowly loaded one webpage, then when I returned five minutes later, it was in a weird state. Wifi could not be turned on (attempting to turn it on in settings had no effect). Opening IE would load a grayed-out version of the tab selector then crash back to the home screen with any click. Pretty much all apps would load an initial page but then crash whenever any input was submitted (e.g. email address/password for setting up accounts).
Pretty poor so far-- the UI is smooth and hasn't locked up per se (as Windows Mobile always inevitably does), but the inconsistency and random crashes make this feel like alpha software.
Actually it kind of feels like what'd result if you were to put a GPU-accelerated GUI on top of WM 6.x and then forced it to either act in a few seconds or abandon the task. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't, and the GUI just glosses over as if nothing's wrong.
Anyone else having similar issues?
Hmm...the OS has crashed (causing a reboot) three times today so far-- once when downloading email (in inbox screen), once when loading a particular message, and again when trying to open the Marketplace (froze with one highlighted app, Need for Speed, shown, then 10-15 seconds later, phone restarted).
Wifi's also only intermittently connecting with a strong signal in the area (toggling it on/off doesn't seem to fix it).
There is the possible chance of just having a faulty device, (or simply a faulty MicroSD card which is used for memory. Have you tried a Hard Reset on the device and seeing if the problems resurface? Most people who have used WP7 for the most part so far have not mentioned issues like yours on the vast scale you have.
I've had mine for a couple days now also and it has been perfection as far as operation goes. I did have a bug in IE when I tried to respond to an XDS PM. I tried to delete the accumulated text and it funked up. Couldn't back out to a previous window so had to reboot WP7 to be able to use IE. I was able to tap the windows button and go to the main screen, but I couldn't use IE till after the reboot
had my samsung since launch the 8th
I have not had any problems what so ever!! and i have installed a 32gb class 2 card in connection with the 8gb internal and it runs great no problems to this time never had to reboot or lock ups nothing... most likly you have a bad sd card...
yea i can also report the same, mine is smooth as. what i have been doing of late is leaving my pc on at night, and my phone connected to wifi (charging as well), and it would sync with my pc throughout the night. get up the morning and videos are ready to go for me to take on the train. haven't experienced any difficulties at all yet.
i would report the issue to your carrier and get a replacement handset, or hard reset first to see if it's not just some dodgy build on your phone.
Ive been using my device for 3 days. I've only encountered 1 or two odd problems
1. when i was connected to the uni's wifi and visited weather.com it kinda borked out (i think it had to do with my uni re-directing to a login page to verify identity)
(or it could have been weather.com loading some scripts (didnt see it as a mobile device)
2. i develop for wp7 and sometimes after i deploy an application to my phone, the back button wont work. (sometimes meaning it happened once )
No crashes or anything of that nature though..
Can anyone agree that the shutter speed on the camera is really slow? I am assuming its a windows software issue as the cameras in almost all wp7 devices are the same.
It really sounds like a faulty hardware. 3 crashes in a day? Wow, even my Fuze never did that with XDA builds. From the reviews and experiences from other users here. I'd say you are either alone or one of very few in that experience.
I handled a Focus for few mites yesterday side by side with iPhone 4 and Captivate. Android felt like beta, iphone4 as final RC build and WP7 as RTM in terms of usability. I like and still use my iPhone 2G so nothing against iPhone really.

yea, the auto focus and shutter do take their time. it should be really snappy. it should auto focus and take phone pretty much instantly... sadly it isn't the case. hopefully it picks up, though i don't seem them doing this till like WP8.
The main thing is, MS will be doing the updating and that means quality updates for each and every handset out there. But the latest news has me a bit concerned, Balmer selling off so much stock in MS. So far he has sold 49 million shares of MS and is said to sell a total of 74 million eventually. I'm wondering if it's related to WP7 and if there is something we all should be concerned about.

Very interesting indeed. That's a lot of cheese. You got me wondering too.
he has a few hundred million shares if not billions in MS... i believe what he's selling is a mere few percent if that of his shares. Bill Gates sells off that many regularly to support his charities... i wouldn't take much note of it.
Tried hard-resetting, to no effect. It's bad enough that at this point I hope it's an isolated hardware problem, as I wonder what my not so tech-savvy friends/family would do if they bought a WP7 phone and encountered this.
It's been crashing out of apps, freezing at the shutdown "Goodbye" screen, showing UI issues in IE, giving DRM errors in Netflix (and restarting every time Netflix is closed), sometimes not turning the screen off (pressing power key would just lock the phone), etc.
Hopefully T-Mobile can swap this out tomorrow.
(oh and this is attempt 2 at writing this post-- tried it on the HD7 the first time, and after I pressed Submit Reply, the phone dropped Wifi, IE went to an Action Cancelled page, and then the OS crashed)

There is also a change in capital gains tax, he maybe wanted to take advantage or needed some liquid cash. I doubt very much it is anything else!

That definitely sounds like a rogue habdset, I have the HD& and have had hardly any issues.
I really don't think MS is betting the farm on WP7, sure it's important to their lineup, but it's never going to be the money maker like the iPhone is for Apple.
MS makes it's break and butter off OS's(Server and Desktop), Office Suite and XBOX Live.
Everything else is just a plus.
Just to follow up, went and swapped out the phone, and now it's all fine. Guess HTC/T-Mo's quality control needs some work.
When I described all my issues to the people at the T-Mobile store, their response was "it's a Windows phone-- all Windows phones freeze and do things like that" . Finally was able to get them to swap it out though.
Incidentally they had a bunch of HD7s sitting around-- apparently I'm the only one who's actually bought one from the store (and this is in New York) .
i have been using WP7 since it came out in UK, untill yesterday there has been no siginificant issues, couple to times accelrometer didn't work properly but yesterday
marketplace app wouldn't launch
couldn't buy apps on marketplace, can get free apps
twitter app errored out
scrolling in marketplace app got stuck for few mins
had to reboot it twice, back or windows button wouldn't work.

I kind of disagree...from what I've read they are betting on this as they know the future is mobile to a large extent. I believe they will force WP7 to be a success, similar to what they did with Xbox...

And I'm hoping you are 200% correct. Because it means our mobile platform of choice will only get better; will only improve. That means MS will listen to the market (general public, not customizers) and give it what it wants.
Speaking of wants, what the forecast for Angry Birds on WP7?
I'm so mad right now.
My camera app crashed even after several reboots forcing a Hard reset.
I lost all my data and the camera app still crashes.
I can't describe how mad I am.
I press the camera button and it shows for a sec. It then immediately returns to the home screen.
I'm gonna contact Microsoft first thing in the morning.
I might lose a job because of this.
The hard reset didn't fix anything. It still crashes .
Can someone link me the he fastest way to get to Microsoft to help me fix this stuff.
I'm seriously going insane. All me stuff is gone and since its impossible to take a backup I'll never get it back.
Die, Microsoft. Die.
You just made me lose heaps of things because of a camera flaw.
Thanks for letting us know:
1. What you were doing when it crashed.
2. What type of phone you have.
3. Whether or not you're using a 3rd party MicroSD card in the slot.
4. What actually happens when it crashes (phone freezes, app just closes, middle finger graphic comes up on the screen, what does it do?)
5. Were you on WiFI, EDGE, 3G, GPRS?
6. Are you sure the device isn't defective (And/or prematurely failing on you? In this case, the OS has nothing to do with it - can happen on any phone running any Smartphone OS)
7. Other trivial information that can cause us to come to better conclusions.
Instead, you plummel us with bad grammar, vulgarities, and a rant that will certainly accomplish nothing due to #s 1-5.
BTW, you should back up all important information on any device. Laptop, Tablet PC, Desktop PC, Smartphone, Thumb Drive, etc. It's not Microsoft's fault if you lose you fault due to data loss. Important information should be backed up and IIRC Windows Phone 7 is capable of keeping the Camera Roll Sync'd up with SkyDrive.
I give you 3/10, though.
Ciao!
You might try Windows Phone Support on twitter. They usually reply pretty fast during business hours.
http://twitter.com/#!/WinPhoneSupport
A side note, if you've got a job that depends on your ability to take pictures, you might not want to depend on a phone's camera and use a dedicated camera.
@Side Note: Still shouldn't matter. Anyone that takes (EDIT) photos for business use with their phone camera should have the SkyDrive Camera Roll Backup/Sync enabled and you can set your Photo Gallery to Private.
The OP's situation is completely avoidable.

damn my camera app crashed too yesterday after i was changing some settings.
i turned off light and changed the measurement adjustment.
it crashed when i tried to focus the object. black screen, crash.
so happy a restart fixxed it, i better dont mess with the settings for some time...
Yeah, besides, Microsoft did not MAKE you do a hard reset of your device.
If you read the manual and understood what you were doing before you did it you would have known that a Hard Reset puts the phone back to its initial state.
You must have also disabled image syncing onto Zune which would have backed up your photos everytime you plugged it in or Wifi synched it. Could have also auto-uploaded the pics to Skydrive and had a lower resolution copy on there.
Can't blame Microsoft for this. Yes, the camera should not be broken, but most times a soft reset will fix any software issues.
Bah, sorry.
I was kinda drunk when I posted this.
I was at a party.
But to answer the questions:
1. What you were doing when it crashed.
Nothing. I tried to take a picture by holding the camera button whilit was still locked.
2. What type of phone you have.
HTC HD7
3. Whether or not you're using a 3rd party MicroSD card in the slot.
No, I did not modify my phone
4. What actually happens when it crashes (phone freezes, app just closes, middle finger graphic comes up on the screen, what does it do?)
It shows the zoom bar on the right, then immediately closes and shows the start screen.
5. Were you on WiFI, EDGE, 3G, GPRS?
Edge
6. Are you sure the device isn't defective (And/or prematurely failing on you? In this case, the OS has nothing to do with it - can happen on any phone running any Smartphone OS)
Nope, there's nothing wrong with it other than that.
7. Other trivial information that can cause us to come to better conclusions.
Not really, I never did anything special to it.
All I did that evening was texting, calling and updating my status on Facebook because the power blacked out, three times.
Ok, so after the third hard reset the camera works again.
But now all the pictures I take are rotated 90 degrees
I think there's definately something wrong with the camera app.

Sounds more like a HW problem to me (wouldn't be the first for a HD7) as it doesn't happen to everyone else.
Yeah, sounds like a bad HD7 to me too. My first HD7 was an awesome phone, if by awesome, the standard you use is how often it simulated Windows XP by crashing on me.
Returned it and got a new one and it's been smooth sailing so far.
Send that POS back and replace, blame HTC not MS and don't do your business while drunk otherwise it won't be the phone's fault you lost your job.
i don't know which is worse, being unable to identify the cause or blaming something else other than the cause

Honestly, I'm actually surprised somebody hasn't posted Die, Badboy70. Die. because of this post, XDA is maturing. Anyway, your Zune auto syncs your photos by default, I'm assuming if you do this for a living, you'd know not to turn this off. So, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you're FOS for saying you're losing a job because of this. I'm betting more on you being a 14 year old who's phone is malfunctioning due to a hardware problem and had to come rant about it instead of asking for help.

Your excuse of being drunk just validates the first part of my phone. You won't know your device is defective without a professional looking at the camera hardware. Just becase nothing else is messing up doesn't mean the camera isn't defective. Considering it worked, and then didn't, especially on factory settings leads me to believe this is hardware related, if it even exists at all. I would try to replace the device.
It's more likely to be a defective HD7 ...
Doesn't a hard reset delete all the data off your phone? So instead syncing it to your PC and extracting the photos you decided to delete. It may be MS fault that your Camera app crashed, but its your fault the data is missing. Why didn't you back your photos up on your computer or even to skydrive? Couldn't had been to important if your didn't.
Hello everybody,
Everything is fine with my Arc, except for the huge problem that sometimes I simply can't answer an incoming call! It happens like this: When a call is incoming, the phone starts ringing and vibrating as it usually does. However, the screen that is supposed to come up which shows you who is calling and where you can select to accept or reject the call is simply not showing up.
Has anybody experienced this before?
All I can do is slide to unlock the screen and then I'm looking at my home screen with the phone still ringing but no chance to get the call. There is nothing in the notification area or anywhere else where I could answer the call. All I can do is to wait until the ringing stops!! Really really bad behavior.
Furthermore, once the ringing has stopped, there is no information about the missed call in the call log. So I can't even call back the person who called me!
First time this happened I had "Plants vs Zombies" running so I figured the phone wasn't fast enough to switch to the incoming call. But it also happens when the phone is idling.
There seems to be no scheme behind all of this. Sometimes it happens twice in a row, sometimes only once a week.
I got my unbranded simlock free Arc in mid April with 2.3.2 and .181 firmware and applied Gingerbreak for root access. Later I upgraded via PC Companion to 2.3.3. and .145 firmware. But I lost root which I didn't like. So I downloaded the Generic World Firmware .181 and flashed it on the phone. Then used Gingerbreak again and made an OTA update to 2.3.3. and .145 firmware. Now I have root and the latest firmware.
All the while I used Titanium Backup to restore all my data, settings and apps as I don't want to reinstall all from scratch because it would take forever.
With this latest firmware, everything is fine, except for the call problem!
Please help me, what can I do?? I don't want to reflash and upgrade or whatever or lose all my data. I just want my phone to be able to handle calls as it should be!!
P.S.: I used Antek App Manager and frooze (not deleted!) some apps which where uncessesary and running in the background or at startup which speed up my startup time and free ram quite a bit. But I didn't frooze any crucial apps, at least I hope. Only stuff like Chinese keyboard and Let's Golf etc.
Also, if I would have frozen the call handling app or something, I wouldn't be able to accept calls in most cases, wouldn't I?

Think you may have answered your own question here...
could be, but on the other hand I only frooze really stupid apps which should not affect any important functions of the phone. Also, if I frooze something important related to calls, why is it working most of the time? This is what I don't get.
Here is what I frooze (most of them just took up space in the app drawer and I don't use them), maybe it helps:
- stock browser (I use Opera)
- chinese keyboard (I'm german and don't need it)
- "Downloads"
- retaildemo
- live ware manager
- fb mediadiscovery
- dlna server
- news and weather
- postcard
- SE setup wizard
- sim toolkit
- sony ericsson sync service
- playnow
- sony ericsson support
- track id
- twitter
- let's golf
- google talk
- sony ericsson sync client wizard
so is your problem solved?
Anything related to google should be left alone news and weather should be fine to freeze or delete but would leave Talk alone, and depending what data from which FW was backed up, might also be an issue.
so I defrosted Google Talk. Anything else I should defrost?
Under "Settings" and then "Running services" I sometimes stop "Timescape Legacy Plugin" or whatever it's called because it takes up RAM. Could this also be a cause but I believe it's only for the Timescape app which I seldom use.

I have the exact same problem.
It doesn't happen often but it's really annoying either way.
I barely installed anything off the market and I don't use any sort of app killers/managers.
that's strange because I thought it could be my own fault because I played around and frooze same apps. But it's "good" to know that I'm not the only one.
Do you have any hints about when it happens or when not? Can you exclude anything?
Today, I re-enabled all the froozen apps and then frooze some of them again, according to the thread here on xda. But only apps about which I was really sure.
Don't know how I could test if the error is gone. I mean, have people calling me 100 times and hope it occurs or not doesn't really sound great.
may be there is some problem in your firmware, try some other firmware of other region.................

That's the weirdest part, the only thing I used that day was Whatsapp.
The incident happened about 5 hours later, I was in a car when my phone started ringing.
I tried picking it up but.. I guess you know the rest..
I was about to buy this phone but now I'm having second thoughts.
@flamez
yesterday it happened to me again. The weird thing is, that my girlfriend said she called me three times but I heard it ringing four times! She claims she didn't call me between her second and her third call! But it definetly rang but I couldn't answer it. Also my other friends say that they didn't call me at this time. Could be someone calling who I don't know at the exact time but the chance is slim I guess.
Also whenever there is such a phantom call, there's not even a hint of it inside the missing calls log. And when this happens, nobody ever leaves a message on my mailbox. Is this the same for you? Could be the person is just lazy but I don't know.
Furthermore, it happened several times to me already and never once a person asked me later why I didn't get their call. Strange, isn't it. It almost seems like that there was no one calling at all!
Now, could it be for some unknown reason that our phones just start ringing as if there is a call but in fact there isn't one at all?! You know, the phone just running crazy and triggering the ringtone? That could be the reason why the "accept call screen" doesn't show up and there's no call log because there is now call!
I know, sounds very weird. But think about it. They could be really "ghost calls".

No, I don't think that's it..
It's happened only twice to me over a 2-3 month period and my friends have always called me back asking why I never pick up the phone.
It really just happens about once a month to me, and I can answer the second time they call me right away without any problem.
Are you guys running task killers?
{EDIT - I remember OP saying that he'd frozen a load of stuff.. Suggest that if you're getting this a lot that you un freeze all of it and see how it goes, maybe just freeze the end user apps - like Lets Golf HD at first then build up the frozen apps slowly until you get the problem..}

No, as I said before, I'm not using any sort of task killers/app managers.
Today first time i encountered same problem. I have WhatsApp running in background. No task killer, nothing else.
Though i donno how to solve this problem. But i can surely tell how to pick up call in this case.
Just press the power key, this will take phone in locked state, but the call wont be rejected.
now click the home key and you will see the answer key, now slide it, it will slide without problem
it's good news that you found a workaround! I'll try to remember it the next time it happens.
Today, I had the problem again but this time it was different. The slider or the contact picture of the person calling didn't appear, but I could see the number of the person who is calling in the notification bar (not the name, just the number although this number and contact is stored in my contacts).
This happened the first time, all the other times the phone just rang without any hint of who is calling.
It would be nice if we were able to pinpoint a certain event which causes this odd behavior but so far I had no luck. What I'm doing differently since the last time it happened is, that I don't use task killers anymore. But still, it happened again today.
It's difficult to find out what it is when you don't know what causes it and when it will happen. For example, it happened to me today once for the first time in about a week.
in recent days, "it" happened very often to me!
Sometimes, the phone manages to at least show the number of the person calling so that I can call back. But usually it doesn't! The call just disappears into nirvana.
Do you guys remember if the error is associated with a certain amount of RAM left available? In other words, if the available RAM at the time of the incoming call is below a certain limit (which I don't know) the phone can't display the call. When it happened to me today, I had only 90MB RAM left. Maybe the phone can't free up enough RAM fast enough?!
Also the trick, which somebody mentioned a few posts above me, that when it happens you press the power button and then home and then you can slide and accept the call very rarely works!
I'm desperate and don't know what to do about it. I have just finished adjusting my phone to my needs. I linked apps with Link2SD and now have over 100 apps installed and still 215MB left on the internal memory, I have root and the .145 firmware. Everything is fine, except for this error!! It would take ages to restore it to the point where it is now, if it is complety possible at all.
I mean, if a phone can't handle calls, what good is it for?
I had a NEC e616 years ago which frooze while sending SMS or crashed after connecting a call or during a call and other "funny" things, but this was well known for this model.
But we don't have 2004 anymore and I except the Arc to work.
I could send it in on warranty, possibly. But then everything would be erased and it would take forever to get it repaired.
And I'm afraid they are going to tell me that they couldn't reproduce the error (because it happens so randomly)!
Such a nice and beautiful phone if not for this stupid error!
I'm already tempted to get rid of the phone and look for something else. But who's going to buy a phone with a bug which can't display phone calls?!!
I mean, I could reset it and flash the fimware and stuff and then hope. Maybe the error is gone. Maybe it persists and then all my data is gone and I have to start from scratch.
Or it is gone and then I have to start from scratch also!
If I should be forced to do it all over again and have all the work, then I could do it on another phone as well.
The Samsung Galaxy SII is quite ugly, to wide and big but I hope it can at least handle a call?!
Thank you for any help!!
Hmm..
If it happens rarely.. Why don't you sell it off on ebay
If asked about other mobile. I prefer sensation to sgs2. Much better phone function. In fact IMO htc is better than all other androids when it comes to phone functions.

I was driving home from work yesterday. I happened to pick up my phone and see that my wife called. So I hold the Windows key and say "Call home".
.
.
.
.
It pauses and then says "searching for 'call home'".
It can't be serious. How does it not know that I was saying "call home" not "FIND call home".
It clearly heard me say "call home", yet for some reason pulled up Bing and searched for the phrase "call home".
Happen for anyone else? How the hell do I change that? Because I've definitely said "call home" in the past and it worked.
Mine doesn't even recognise what I say :l
I eventually start screaming at my phone :'(
Is Home actually your contact's name?

Err, some of my suggestion after few attemps now works more better.
I usually use voice command to do simple texting and call my girlfriend.
I press windows key, wait for the prompt, then say call / text (pause for awhile) Cha Lee (pause for awhile) mobile, which will let me to call /text her mobile number.
Just keep in mind that the name you speak after the call / text command must be the same in the contact.
I'm having problems with voice commands too.
Mango seems to have screwed it up. It worked much better on NoDo.
On NoDo, whenever I say Start "App name", it recognizes it on the first go and starts it.
On Mango, when I try to do the same thing(same accent and everything), it either 1. Searches Bing 2. Call one of my contacts 3. Application could not be found.
I think it's an OS issue.
Another example: Wanted to test Voice-To-Text, so I said "I just updated my phone to Mango". It came out "I just updated my phone to angel".
How does angel rhyme with mango? This was done in a quiet environment.
Perhaps it's an issue caused by forcing Mango?
I forced mine. Anyone with un-forced Mango having similar issues?
The pronunciation of angel and mango is pretty similar...
I don't know, it's worked pretty well for me for the most part, but voice recognition still has a long way to go.
Good replies here.
Yeah the contact is just the one word "Home" and our home line. And it worked just fine before.
I think acefiredx may be on to something. Maybe a bug in Mango. And yes I forced mine, although it wouldn't make any sense for that to be the issue. I could be wrong though, my 'coding' days were with QBasic.
It may be because the way you talk. The same way accents and things like that can fool the human ear, it can definitely fool a phone.
I don't talk slow, but I can say "Call <x> mobile" all day long and the phone does fine.
That being said, I've not big on voice command and barely use it, anyways - like 90% of the world.

To be honest, unless you're getting to Moon-like interaction, then yeah, voice commands aren't that useful.
When would you use them? If you're with or around even one person, you're not or you'll feel like a douche. And if you're alone it's weird to talk outloud to a computer, it also doesn't inconvenience you to navigate with your fingers.
Driving is the only thing. But like I said, only if it's sci-fi grade. Is Siri? I'm sure it has some neat tricks to understand humans, but no, it can't be. If it were, then Apple just discovered real AI.

Although I just sent a text without pushing a button. Ok that was pretty cool.
AND I tried the "call.. home". And that worked. So maybe I was talking too fast who knows.
Same problem here, but it`s funny... one time i said "find little dog" and the phone searched for "legal drug" wtf
I have a question DO I NEED INTERNET FOR VOICE SMS? because when i connect it to PC and try to send a voice sms it works. but when i disconnect it doesn't recognise nothing and keep 'thinking'.

Yes you need internet.. it send your voice to your carrier i think and than it comes back with the words.. its I think for regionalization.. to identify your accent and not just uniform american accent accross all phones.. also it would take a lot of memory to save all those voice commands on phone.

This is exactly what I means, give a small pause after each voice command.
Glad that works for you. I always used that to call and text when I'm driving.
(Of coz with a headset on)
Yes, the following command has worked in the past. Seems that my arrive is just getting problematic. I can't use the flashlight anymore as the touch bottons on the front are too sensitive. I even have issues turning the phone off. I have to hold it on the top part of the size. Back on topic.
Call, louie's burger

I think I am getting trolled.
The only thing I use it for is to have SMS conversations while I'm walking down the street. Because when it's 25 degrees outside you don't want to take your glove off just to respond. However, I've been noticing it missing texts. I feel the Vibrate and hear the Notification tone, but it doesn't give me to option to have it read or reply to it.
But it's the only phone I have that allows me to do that, so I deal with it. The accuracy when dictating texts is much better than Google. ALMOST on par with Vlingo. The server round trips are very long, though...
^ Might want to check that in the settings...
However. I find that the voice input is not good at all, even worse with Mango. If you actually use "WhatIs" App, it is defintely way better in actually saying what it is.

Today on wp7 " call home " and it binged "taliban"...three attemtps failed.
Today on siri ... doesn't matter... it works every single time.. for everything.
Today, on android through my jacket (phone in pocket) with a dirt bike running "navigate to trailhead purdy" and it started navigation to the exact location I asked. Open dualsportmaps worked, starting plotting a gps (gpx) track immediately. "Text wife mobile im lost but ok, be home late".... all through my jacket.. wow

It's checked, that's why I said it misses them. It gets one and then fails to trigger on the next one.
I find the Speech Recognition for texting rather decent. I think the server round trips are excessive, though. I boxed up my Vibrant to use the HD7 as a daily driver and the biggest issue I'm having with the "transition" is the lack of Vlingo's voice service on WP7. On Android you can use their app and you can also set Vlingo as the default speech service for the phone to use in the settings. It's much more accurate and round trips a lot faster than TellMe.
Also, there are too few places where you can dictate text into input boxes (no Mic on the keyboard).
I think that will hurt them in the long run, though, since they won't be collecting as much speech data as Google/Apple does on their devices.
Great point
I wanted to bring this up after playing with my Focus S for a while I notice that my original Focus understands alot more items. I find it harder now to call people using voice dial on the Focus S as it was very easy on the predecessor.
hey just got myself the note II yesterday and of course I went looking for apps on the samsung app store and I noticed something very troublesome and makes me very concerned....there is WAAY too many apps that wanna record, monitor and process your phone calls (whatever that means) for example a lightning live wallpaper...why the f***k would they want to monitor, record your phone calls? this is very alarming to me!!! is this some sort of new trend with android phones? am I the only one that finds this alarming? its getting very bad that we are loosing our privacy just because I would like to have a lightning live wallpaper! also am I being overly paranoid? what do you guys think? also I noticed this isn't happening or less frequently on the google play store....I find this very very suspicious and concerning...I wouldnt want some shady person auspiciously getting my sensative info and robbing me blind!
I'm not saying all apps require all the permissions they require, but depending on what the app does and how it functions may dictate requirements that appear odd.
If the screen saver acts on phone state, it may need to know if the phone is ringing or in sleep state. Check the API docs, its a good way to see what functions need which permissions.
It's easy to cry that the sky is falling, but make sure it's not just someone dropping dirt from your roof.
