Hey guys im pretty new to this droid phones. My friend has the mt3g slide and she keeps running out of memory. Her phone is stock no root or anything at all. She deleted every app and txt and etc, but everyday she still loses memory. Its losing memory from the internal memory. It would keep decreasing everyday. So does anyone know the problem or anyway to fix. Also, what can she do to save stuff on her sd card because she has nothing saved in the card. Is there a way to temp root or something. I am not sure if she totally wants to root her phone. LMK guys thanks.
1.Root if not rooted
2.Follow S-OFF guide
3.Do mtd, refer to thread in dec section
You will be able to get well over 200MB free int memory by using custom partitions, space will be much better. Also I recc a vanilla type rom to maximize the size for data(int mem).
Or, much easier way, which doesn't require rooting or anything overly technical, clear her cache for her apps and such. Settings>applications>manage applications, then go through and clear all of their caches.

If you don't want to mess with MTD (or don't know how to, even if you read the guide), you can do apps2ext.

I did that once and I lost like half of my battery life, and it really is only worth it if you have a class 4 or above SD card, preferably class 6.
How do I do the apps2ext? I have an extra class 4 sd card so ill give it to her. She keeps losing memory still.

Hey all. I have had my desire for about a week now and I'm already out of space. And using too much RAM. Is there anyway to get all my apps to run off the SD card. There must be a reason HTC provided me with a 8gb card. I'm tired of having to un install a app to install a new one.
Please help me out, or direct me to a thread where this is explained. Thanks in advance.

To run apps from sd at the moment you'd need to root. Froyo will bring a2sd but who knows when your operator will release it...

So what does that mean? I need to root my desire? With what Rom? I'm sure I can easily do that with the proper guide.
I can't believe I'm out of space already. This sucks. Omg

My suggestion to you is, Only have apps your need.
Rubbish I know but well...
The 8Gb card, in my opinion is more fore music and other general stuff like that.
You could try searching:

Uninstall the games you don't play.
I had Shoot U! And played that only a few times and that is moveable to SD.
More and more devs will move their games to SD but I like to keep a lean machine so Uninstall often.
I use no more than 3 separate apps per day and barely any games so my usage is different to yours but I have up to 30 installed apps and that is it. My mind boggles when people have more than 50 but I'm still running stock. Figure out what is important because that fart app you downloaded pales in comparison to the gas beasts I can generate sometimes.

This is good advice.
If you a little proactive with your application management, you can get by with an unrooted device.
For example, I like Google Earth for Android, but I seldom use it and it is a very large app. So, I keep the APK on my SD and when I want to use it, I install it, use it, and then remove it again. I do this even though I'm using Froyo Apps2SD, because if the app is installed it is still consuming space in the Dalvik cache.
The next generation of HTC Android phones won't be such an issue since they are equipping them with more internal memory, and I'd imagine these will largely render any form of Apps2SD obsolete.
Regards,
Dave
It's easy to root. Search for Unrevoked 3. I have 250 mb of apps installed and still have 70mbs of free memory. Many custom roms set it up for you - you don't need to do anything.
I recommend the NextSense rom found in the dev section here.

I tried this. It didn't work. I also partitioned the sd card, did whatever I found anywhere on the internet. There was some effect as I had more space for some reason but all of the apps stayed on the main memory. I also couldn't access the ext3 partition from linux, ooops android itself.
If it worked for you, could you please share your ROM, radio, recovery, root method and if you did anything else - partition sd or other?
Ok, I admit I have not done any extensive research on this issue as I'm at work and just dont have the time to pick through lots sources. I handed my mytouch slide down to my wife after less then a week to get a vibrant and now all of a sudden from nowhere she had almost no internal space. She had uninstalled everything except facebook in order to open txt messages and still had low internal space. As I said, I dont have time to deal with it in depth so I loaded to bootloader screen and did a data wipe on it. Now it looks better but still has a low low 74meg available internal space and not the 512 it should, wtf is going on here and any tips on getting this straightened out on the quick and easy?
If this has been addressed, then I know full well a flaming is inbound, but I'd really like to get this thing fixed for her so she stops whining about it (all married men will understand I hope)

Yes, this has been asked before. Is the phone rooted or was it ever rooted. A guy had the same problem. He said he had some old files when the phone was rooted and it ate up his memory.

Yea, your right. I would assume that it could be a file on the sd card causing the issue. I know it sounds stupid because the memory card shouldn't have anything to do with internal space, but its worth a try.

I had a memory problem as well right after I first rooted, but right after I flashed my first Rom everything was a-okay again. Maybe updating the phone to one of the Expresso Roms will help out. Hell, you're already rooted and it's the same OS and baked in stuff, so why not?
Here's what I go from the guy who solved his problem.
I went into the SD card and wiped ALL my root files (.zips/.apks). The phone was then factory reset. The rooting files et Al. take up a TON of internal memory space. If you want to keep it rooted, you are stuck with low internal memory...unless you move apps onto the external SD somehow. I didn't have the slide long enough to go crazy with apps and have this problem.
Basically...I un-rooted the phone for her but forgot to wipe the root files initially.

I restored the phone back to original ROM, so I don't understand how files on the SD could possibly put themselves back onto the internal memory. I need to locate the original stock ROM. Format the SD card, place rom onto said SD card, and reflash and hope for the best I suppose.

After rooting, you guys stayed on the ENG build. The ENG build has significantly less space on /data than a normal ROM. That's your problem.

guys go into settings/applications/manage apps and then hit menu and sort by size ..see what the bigger apps are.. My dialer for some reason had over 10mbs in the data portion..I found out this was bc of pic messages, I deleted them and it fixed it some.. Same thing happened with my dads and his email app.. he had almost 100mbs in the data portion and the only way to clear it was a wipe, I couldnt find the culprit.. BTW deleting dalvik wont do anything as it just recreates itself after a reboot.
same issue with SLIDE-Reloaded v1
I mounted the SLIDE-Reloaded v1 Rom about three days ago and downloaded about 15 apps and all of a sudden I am low on space. This ROM is suppose to be similar to that of the stock ROM just a tad bit heavier yet I have nearly none left. My biggest app is Skype with 12mb and then a few on 5mb and it just goes downhill from there for the rest of the apps (as far as space goes it is minimal).

I see where all the apps are and when I tick delete they just don't go anywhere. My question is how does do I go about the about process mentioned by TrueBlue?
I initially rooted the phone and installed the CM6. I did not care for it and decided to change ROMs to this one. During the process I did a wipe data/factory reset and then I wiped cache Delv somthing.
Cheers
I was the one having the issue....I temp. fixed it back then (OG thread) but it just happened again today. We did a complete factory wipe and we will see what is causing it by NOT installing apps. My fiance only had 6 apps when the error occured...stock/un-rooted.
Will update as I see anything happening...
Sorry to bump this, but the problem still persists...I have tried just about everything I could think of, but to no avail.

YES! Come join us on the root side, everything is better XD
Additionally to evoer's suggestion, you can also check Link2Sd which is a free app that allows you to move selected apps to the extSdcard. Root is also need for this app to work, so yeah root it! You must partition your sd to have one part FAT32 and one part ext4 partition. There are free apps for that floating around that'll work on PC, not sure if the current custom recoveries have this integrated. I know back in the EVO OG days we were able to partition directly in recovery.
Warning - before partitioning, you must back up everything in the sdcard to you PC since this will format you sdcard.
As for rooting, if you take that road, go this thread found in the Android Development section. It's a tool created by Senior moderator/Recognized developer mskip. Read through the OP and some pages before attempting this. But this is on of the most straight forward and easiest methods available.
Really good instructions too

Im now sporting my new GS3 16 gig using Phantoms Blaze Rom with the extsd2internalsd GS3 64g class10 mobile, internal 16 gig ext.
worked like a charm. Their are some issues where some apps install the app and data into the real internal memory but noting too big, Atleast thats the prob im having. Good thing i didnt spent 400 bucks for the 64 GS3 im a happy camper with this mod.

Just my opinion but if you choose to root it, do it yourself. That way if anything ever does mess up, you can figure out how to fix it on your own instead of going on one of the forums saying "help my friend rooted my phone and now everything is force closing, what do I do?!?".
It really isn't as complicated as it seems, so long as you follow all instructions and there are many here to help of you get stuck and can't find a solution to a problem. However, a decision only you can make if it is worth it. There is always a small chance of a brick. I've done it before but only cause I was a idiot and flashed an international s3 version ROM when rooting my Sprint galaxy s3
I rooted my LG optimus way back so that I could remove T-Mobile bloatware since the phone was crap anyway. Since then, I always root and have become a flashaholic (although wicked sensations v1.1 is keeping me grounded for a bit ). I'm slowly learning thanks to all the great info here, I was all proud of myself for modifying my mms.apk last week and recompiling it with no issues I still have way more to learn but once you start it is like an addiction. Lol.

I don't think there is any need for these kinds off apps/hacks anymore. The original EVO and other androids had horrible memory issues. They were trying to get by with 512MB to 1GB for both the system files and the apps. The big apps like NOVA etc only have a small piece on the ROM portion of the memory. The rest is on the internal or external SD card. So there's no need.
Granted I have the 32GB version with an additional 3GB SD card only because I had it from my EVO days. Most people don't need that much space.

I have a Note II (Sprint) and i recently purchased a class 10 64GB Sd card, i rooted my phone and followed Galaxynote2root video on youtube (i can't post link but it's the one about apps2sd) https:// www youtube.com/watch?v=QUF7R0mmk00
It did work, it's showing that i have at least 59GB on my "Internal" and my REAL internal is now showing up as SD with 700mbs.
The Problem: While it shows that i have a lot of space, anything i download is going straight to internal (real) not the 64GB card.
What i want be able to do: - To take all my apps/files from my internal drive and move them to the 64GB SD card
- Have any files i download/install go directly to 64GB SD card
I purchased Titanium backup but it's not moving the files to SD it says it moved but storage app is not counting
I'm so confused if anyone has the time to help me i will greatly appreciate it.
Google in all their wisdom removed app2Sd in Android 4.0 and up. This is why we need a 32 and 64 version off this phone. Make sure your titanium backup defaults to your external as well as the camera to save internal space.

Sadly no. I've not been able to use any kind of apps to do this.
Between Google Music cache, google maps/earth cache, tumbler cache, Bard's Tale, and Asphalt 7 that's using up almost 9gb of space on the internal "card" partition. It's crazy that the Evo3D could easily move apps/data to the SDCard but we've taken such a huge step back with this flaw.

Huh? There was apps2sd in 3rd party ics builds for my evo4g. It will probably take some time to port it to the various N2 ROMs unless there is some overpowering technical reason for it bot working. In the Play Store description on apps2sd the developer specifically lists the Galaxy Note 2 as a device which is NOT compatible. :crying:, not happy about that one either. Cause with the potential of this device and its display I want to d/l kick ass games but can't plug up my internal storage when I have a perfectly good class 10 32Gb SD card!
The only fix for this to my knowledge at this time(which my knowledge about moving apps to the sd card is not extensive at the moment. I have done a little research. ) the only solution at the time is an available script. Which I saw on Galaxynote2root.com as well. But I am personally not familiar enough with the method nor how it may interact with a custom ROM therefore I am personally waiting for either a clearer description of the process or a different method all together.

I got it guys!
Okay
The video teaches you how to flip your SDcard for the Internal, so the phone thinks you are installing on the internal but it's actually the SD (CONFUSING LOL) So when i went to titanium pro, i was super confused with the whole "Move to SD" i didn't know if it was moving to SD or the Internal since i flipped it was all super confusing to me i'm new to android, i've had an iPhone since the first one and decided to get a Note II about a week ago.
So what i did was just deleted all my apps, followed the video and installed all the apps again from the play store and it went to the 64GB card!!! So yay :highfive:
Apps/games run great not even lag at all, camera/videos save to 64GB so i'm really happy.
Careful with that card. Definitely not as reliable as internal memory. Especially if your taxing it with everyday constant use .
I just ran into this issue, no space at all! I just realized that my titanium had been installing to my internal.

Hello all! Ive done some research and still am not completely understanding the partition thing. I downloaded an app that was called app2sd (I think that was the name) but it says unable to do so because of a patch that was needed. Can someone explain specifically the process. What is the partition and what about this patch thing? lol sorry but I knew just enough to use the toolkit to root my phone and now id like to benefit from it. Thanks to all who help.

Well from the research I've done after no replies here. They have resulted in the ultimate answer being is yes you can move apps to SD, BUT it takes a process that I don't think I'd be able to do. You have to "fool" your note 2 into thinking that your SD is your internal memory and I don't want to mess things up. If someone has an easy, easy way to do this please let me know. Until then I will just wait til 4.3 update which hopefully apps to SD will be integrated with that update. The S4 in Germany has it, Shortly others shall follow. Well maybe not shortly but eventually haha.

There's an app called folder mount that works with high data games.

+1 on FolderMount. It's different from Apps2SD. I suggest installing My Drives. It'll help find the files that are big storage hogs.
The problem is how Android setups up the memory because of the ability to have multiple profiles.
I haven't personally tried it on the GN2, but you could tired the function Convert to System App. Maybe through that you can move an app to the SD card.
Not that they all do, but I find the two biggest storage hogs are games and videos. Videos are easily moved. Well, nandroids are too.
That is what's eating up most my memory is videos and pictures. I eventually change it over to where my pics and vids were stored on my sd card but that was after my internal memory was almost all gone. Im just going to get drop box on my computer and store them there so I can erase them on my phone to free the memory. The only reason I didn't want to do that before is because my cpu is 3 4 years old and slow. so I hate getting on it. Ill just suck it up and do it. Thanks guys.
If you set up a google+ account you can use it the same way as drop box and you can also get picasa Web, the cool thing about them is Thayer all free unlike drop box
Give it a try I think that's the best route and you can upload from your phone.

Thanks ya'll and I've got drop box on my CPU now and it is free...for what I'm using it for anyway.
