Windows Mobile "XDA Live" Edition

I'm liking Windows Mobile "XDA Live"
as the name in honor of all XDA-Dev has done for us.
I'll be keeping this post updated with progress/news.
Understand that I can not release this Rom without the approval of my source, they need to protect their livelihood. The second I'm given the go ahead, the floodgate with open but until then I simply can't unless I want to burn a good source who put a lot of trust in me.
My primary goal is to get an uncluttered Rom that is useful from the start, think Faria-lite..
If everyone is good and doesn't keep me from getting this done, I will release the scripts that I am using to build & rebuild this rom easily so that each of you can confidently do exactly as I am. I can release the scripts maybe this weekend regardless of the status of the Rom because they are independent of the Rom you are cooking.
Quick FAQ:
Q: Can we get a "Clean" version of the Rom.
A: When released there will be several packages:
"Clean OS" Rom with only HTC-X and Comm Button Toggle Vibrate Fix integrated.
"Hit the Ground Running" Rom with several useful apps embedded (you will be able to disable everything that is embedded) and operator Customizations within easy reach.
Hermes Rom Cookbook, which will include the scripts and tools I am using to do this and instructions on how to apply these to any Hermes Rom.
.nb file only releases for those who want to only swap out the OS ('cause we like our splash screens)
Q: Will WMXL (Windows Mobile XDA Live) fix my corrupted radio bootloader or otherwise bricked Hermes?
A: If the other tools here can't do it then don't bet the farm on WMXL doing it. The Flashing tools are still the same, no magic pill here.
Q: Can you Add XXXX or why not use ZZZZ instead of the App you chose.
A: I have been selective of the apps I am embedding. They may not always be the best at what they do but they are easy to use and small. I will not install 5 different apps with the same function. By having one or two apps you will use embedded you will save plenty of Program Memory to be able to comfortably install the Task Manager, MP3 player or Coffee Temp Monitor of your liking.
Q: Kyphur you are such a Guru, how can I be like you?
A: Remember that my head is in the clouds on this one only because I'm standing on the shoulders' of giants. This project owes it's very existence to many other contributers here and they deserve as much if not more of the cudos than I do. The is a team effort, please support everyone who made this possible. (See my post here). I have been a member her for only 15 months give or take but I have spent more time reading than doing or posting.
Q: If you embed a program into the Rom how can I remove it (to save memory).
A: You can't remove file that are in the Rom. You can remove the Shortcuts to the programs. Again I will repeat that programs in the Rom do not consume any memory. If you don't want the program simply ignore it and it will not harm you.
Q: I have more questions...
A: Read the thread.
Current Status:
I have removed the list ofToday (.tsk) Themes for this Rom. Click here for Images of all the Themes I have collected. I've decided that instead of embedding them all, I will remove all but the default Crossbow Theme and maybe create a custom WMXL (Windows Mobile XDA Live) Theme.
The rest of the collection will be packaged together so everyne can pick and choose their themes. If we figure out how to create a custom Ext_Rom.nd then I will put them there along with Carrier Data & MMS Settings.
I have integrated the following Applications:
Dictionary Editor
HTweakC v2.1
MS Hearts for PPC
PHM Registry Editor ** Will not be replaced by Total Commander...
SMS Backup
StartClean
VJCandelaLite (Flashlight)
I know everyone has their own list of apps they'd like to see but I have chosed these because they are small, simple to use and ADD functionality to the Rom.
I have integrated the following Registry Fixes:
By default only the Date Plugin is enabled (and it is set to a single line).
The Today Screen says "XDA Live" and the about screen shows " - XDA" after the OS Build Number.
Pressing & Holding the Comm Button toggles the between Vibrate & Normal.
PDAViet Memory Leak Fix is Applied.
Disabled the warning for Unsigned Applications (Application Lock)
Misc:
I have added two "Classic RingTones, (OldPhone-US.wma and OldPhone-UK.wav) for those of us who want to get away from the music and chirping Ringers.
I have removed all carrier customizations, no need to soft reset to avoid customization!
Current Known Issues:
The only real issue is that I am bound by a promise to my source to not distribute this Rom until the Carrier releases it or I can get ALL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION removed from it. trust me, I am working on it but there is absolutely no room for errors. Ironically the Rom seems more stable since I've modified it than it was when I received it.
Goals to work on:
Embed TCPMP v0.71RC and Codex Files.
Dropped or moved to low priority:
Voice Command Abandoned... It was proving too troublesome and there are too many reasons (language and dialing rule differences) to not embed it.
Dropped embedding a replacement Calculator, two many personal preferences, they are all lightweight and we can each add our fav later.
As for adjusting how the memory is used, if someone knows how to do that I'm all ears but if it requires shifting things in the image and hex editing it then I think we might hit the NAND Block Issue again.
BTW, this truly is a group effort.
Without pof & team unlocking I never would have even gone looking for the base Rom.
aChef by aklok_hk is doing the heavy lifting.
Sleuth, ShogunMark, Faria ViJay555, Bepe, Maimach have all been instrumental either directly or indirectly in this project.
Des and the SSPL was another step that got me to this point.
Of course there are all of the guys who have been doing this before I bought my first PPC Phone, they blazed the trail I simply walk behind them.
Finally, I can't forget my unnamed source. They took a big change passing this along to me. Without that trust I'd be cooking AKU 3.3 right now.

Hmm, but what you need these themes for? I guess it would be cool if there was no unnecessary stuff you can always download later.

Today themes are small, I would like to include the HTC Standard as well as Carrier Themes for at least the major carriers just as a way to allow us to brand this Rom without having to use any of our storage memory.
Initial Rom will not have any added apps, just clean & stable though I might embed The Hermes Tweaker.
This will be great. I am all for a minimal clean rom. No Addons just crossbow. HTC is fine for me. Just my opinion.
Can't wait.
Thanks

Plans to release...
First I will confirm that this IS NOT an AKU 3.3 Rom.
I have successfully removed most of the identifying info that could lead back to my source (I believe).
Now I'm adding a few things back in like the Press & Hold Comm button for Vibrate Toggle Fix, Today Themes for Carriers and my favorite Ringtone (OldPhone.wma).
I am waiting for a response from my source regarding the info I've cleaned out (I want their approval before I share as I don't want to burn my source).
I hope that this will all happen in less than 1 week.

AHHH! But aren't we getting ahead of ourselves? I see you have WM6 on that pic. What if he's acutally ported Linux to it? Uhhh... wait a second, nevermind.
Nice, I suspect this will be a BIG relase, nice work!
now that people are cooking up some ROMs now, maybe someone can make seperate .cab files for different carriers with all the data settings in it so we can load our internet settings right away after we install cooked ROMs...
A good thing to add to the ExtROM COULD be a feature i noticed on an early iMate rom i used on my hermes. When it was going ahead with the "customisation..." screen it would ask what carrier you are on?! Then IT would apply the appropriate GPRS/MMS settings?!
May be just laziness on my part but would be a COOL feature.

I'm at work now, but from the dutch Qtek site www.qtek.nl you can download a cab file with all the settings from the dutch telecom providers.
If you can't find it I can upload it when I get home tonight.
Would be good If we could collect all the Operator cabs and maybe put them on the ftp?
Probably better than clogging up a ROM with them!?
(LOL il get to work TRYING to track down the O2 one)
Settings Files
Here's Imate and Telstra .tsk, if still needed. Thanks for your great work!
here's the dopod 838 pro .tsk
Does the new os actually close programs or still leave them open when you tap the x-button? If so, what about adding HTC_X-Button.cab?
People can always turn it off if they don't want it.
I also load the two tools below, I think just about everyone uses psshutxp and dictionary editor allows you to get rid of those annoying words you misspell and your phone remembers.... They are all pretty small, but extremely useful.

here goes the official o2 germany tsk file and the o2 germany internet-flatrate wap settings plus the o2 germany mms settings.
if you need a quicktool that can select what to install i can whip that up in c real quick
oli, i wouldnt cook the gps driver just yet.. we need to play with it on wm6.0 to see if its ok..
question besides:
is it necessary to implement vc? especially if the us version isn`t able to deal with with commands in other languages!
anyway, sounds awesome!!!

As you can see, my list of imbedded apps is intentionally short:
1-Calc Lite (replaced Calculator Shortcut in Start Menu)
HTweakC v2.1
PHM Registry Editor
SMS Backup
StartClean
Microsoft Voice Command v1.6 (US)
HTweakC might see some updates but that would be easy to install the new version over and only loose would be the benefit of saving storage Rom.
By embedding these into the Rom we save several Megs of Storage RAM.
Okay, I'll also confirm this is WM6
Also, added Telsta.tsk, i-mate Grass.tsk, i-mate Swoosh.tsk.
I will not be adding other apps to this Rom. If someone wants to gather carrier Data Connections Cabfiles I would be happy to embedd them directly into the Rom (these settings seldom change).
I think I will add the 8525 eyboard Fix Cab file (but not install it) into the Rom.
Currently working on an XML error in the section of code that would place Voice Command into the Rom.
The other apps are all considered stable versions.

Once I have it in good I can easily generate a parallel Rom without it (I am writing scripts to run the tools which build the Rom so skipping sections is trivial.

I myself don't need PHM Registry Editor since I'm using Total Commander with its integrated registry editor plugin, which I find easier to navigate the registry. And I don't need yet-another-way-too-simple-calculator and would prefer a scientific one with RPN (I always hit the wrong keys on non-RPN-calculators ), like RayRPN.
But if having his preferences on the device is the price to pay for using this "very special rom"... well, as long as we're able to hide them from the start menu/programs menu, I'll gladly pay it

You can delete the shortcuts for anthing you don't like.
Personally I use Resco for Registry & File operations but PHM is simply and requires not install so you have Registry Editing out of the box.
I'll look at RayRPN, I just hate the stupid PPC Calc (still same as the old CE Calc). I love the tip calculator and unit conversion functions of 1-calc.
Again once the integration is done, I can easily generate a 100% plain Rom with no carrier tsk files, images or settings. I figue I'll make use of the time while I wait for approval to release....

Hi kyphur,
I think you can consider to put in the rom the ext rom unhide!

SuperD-Lite! WM6 Optimal Base Rom

Welcome to Dopod Lite (now D-Lite!)
Latest version is SuperD-Lite! (Links at bottom) If you are new to my roms, I suggest you read through this first post and the rest of the thread so you understand where this is coming from.
There are lots of nice roms out there. So, why put out another? Well, everyone's different, and I think there are folks out there who may be looking for this.
Note: For V1.2 and V1.1 changes, see below! I am leaving the links for V1.0 and V1.2 because they work great, and avoids hassle for those who don't want to bother putting in their own Java VM, (V1.1 and 1.2), or want to use this as a base for further cooking. (Won't work in V1.2)
From my own testing and use, the latest stock WM6 Hermes Dopod rom has proven to be the fastest and most stable of the current official WM6 roms. This is supported by the fact that a number of the well known chefs are using it as their base. (Sleuth, Shaps, and some others) I've been running my own version for awhile now, and am very pleased with it: its ability to sleep and play music, its skip-free A2DP, and its speed.
However, it has a moderate amount of bloat, which can be removed to make it better.
I have stripped the following: Transcriber, Windows Live, VOIP, Voice Commander, Autoupdate, Catalog, Error Reporting (though it still shows in Settings), SQM, Ceipui, Calculator, ClearVue pdf reader, Zip, the less-used ring tones, and the standard movie clip. Probably some other things too. I have also compressed some files to gain free storage space.
The result is a fast, stable rom, with a minimum of clutter, which performs all the basic functions very well thank you: Phone, Internet, Java, Office 2007 (without OneNote), GPS, etc. etc. It is ripe for customizing in your own special way. If you want it to become a developer rom, add that stuff. Add custom themes? Go ahead. Add functionality? Ready and waiting. There's plenty of free memory and storage space: 30.06 meg, and 59.51 meg respectively (V1.0, 6mb page pool). I could have added a few meg to program memory by reducing the page pool from 6meg to 4meg, but I chose not to do that in the interest of maximizing stability and functionality.
I have altered the initial customization routine to do only the basics: set hspda, set acoustic parameters, and a few registry settings. It does not access the extended_rom, so you are free to do what you want with that.
You will have to choose your own radio (or leave the one you have). You will likely want a replacement calculator (there are lots of good ones). You may want a voice dial program (take your pick). You will have to add your own carrier settings. (Cabs are around for most of these.) The start up screens you currently have will stay there. This is an OS only flash.
If people have suggestions and links for additional functionality, feel free to post them!
If you have never flashed a rom before, take care to follow the excellent tutorials available before doing it for the first time. Your Hermes device can be ruined otherwise.
I will try to fix bugs, etc. but this rom is best suited for those who can troubleshoot things for themselves. This is a hobby, and I can't guarantee I'll be around everyday to help with issues. However, I really don't expect a lot of problems, and you can look on the Dopod release thread for some help with things as well. (Not to mention the rest of the site!)
See second post for more screen shots (5 pic limit/post), capture screen program NOT included in rom. Memory stats are as above, not as pictured, because I had that program and file explorer loaded and running.
Version 1.0 links, Includes Tao Java 10_1_7_575 built in, 6mb page pool. Time-tested stability and performance.
V1.0 Rapidshare Link
V1.0 Megaupload Link
Version 1.1: Offered with some trepidation, however since Schaps decided to package two alternative Java VM's I thought I'd give people a choice. In this version I have also decreased the page pool to 4mb, which makes me a bit nervous, but seems to be running ok for me. The final memory results are remarkable: Free storage memory is 61.03 mb, and Free program memory is 32.07 mb at cold boot after customizations! See post for further discussion. (Update: I have added a 6mb page pool version for those who have issues with the 4mb version.)
V1.1 4mb PagePool Rapidshare Link
V1.1 6mb PagePool Rapidshare Link
V1.2 Update: In this version I have gone even further, by removing all .rgu files from the V1.1 base. This eliminates about thirty-five file entries in the Windows directory, and frees up about 200K of additional storage memory. For some operations, this should increase rom speed even more than its already "blistering" pace. The downside to this is that it is unsuitable for those who want to use it as a base for their own cooking. (Except for the RomDonald kitchen, which should still work.)
V1.2 4mb Page Pool Rapidshare Link
V1.2 6mb Page Pool Rapidshare Link
SuperD-Lite: Based on V1.2, and incorporating bepe's new technology of melding extended_rom and storage rom, this version boosts available storage memory to 71mb. Be aware that this flash will wipe out your extended_rom partition. If you are coming from another chef's or stock rom, you will have to reload all your apps, etc. If you are upgrading from one of mine, that is still probably safest, but you can check my last post for an optional method.

Solitaire & Bubble Breaker Question
Hello Edhaas,
Thanks so much for this lite version!!
I was wondering if you have the cabs for Solitaire and Bubble Breaker (when you extracted them I was wondering if you kept them). I have searched and am unable to find them. It seems like they should be readily available but I am unable to find complete versions of their cabs.
Thanks again for this version and your time,
vjgrace
thanks for the base.. i wanted one that i could customize according to my needs
Hi,
Thanks I also wanted a lite rom. Just wanted to ask, since u said it's based on the latest official dopod rom, is it exactly the same with just those apps removed? No special tweaking, interpollating of other devices' roms, other imgfs, etc? (like what the other chefs are doing).Just the official dopod rom itself?
Edhass, care to provide some screen shots?
Edhass, you just did what I was contemplating doing last night!
Kudos for removing that ugly calculator with the buttons I can barely hit with my fingers. I never understood why some chefs left in that calculator while they blinged up the today screen and added nice dialpad skins.

Sorry about the games. It was a tough decision. In the end I took them out because I'd already played them to death. The freeware site in the second post has lots of games, including solitaire. There used to be cabs floating around here for the games, but I'm guessing they were pulled for copywrite issues. If I'm in error, it would be great if someone could post links or update. If you want, I could cook up another version with the games, I think they're around 500k together. It may take a few days though. If anyone else wants them, please post your request.

Feedback
drgopoos - you're welcome!
joecruz - It's all dopod. I played around with using another Java, and some other stuff, but for me the original works fine, and is much smaller. I changed some registry settings, and the initflashes, and removed stuff, but no mix and match in this version. Thanks for asking. Edit: I did change the version of mxip_notify.vol so that I could remove ceipui (phone home).
alancstan - I'll work on that. Basically its a standard WM6 looking rom. It boots into the Windows Default theme, but I've included the standard Guava Bubbles and Mobile Green themes. The difference is in the speed, stability, and available storage. You can make it look however you like!
rob.ocelot - Yeah, the calculator was always one of the first things I replaced when I ran a new rom. There's lots of better options out there.
Noticed that Remote Desktop is taken out as well. This actually works out better for me since you can install it to memory card -- more savings.
Any reason you left the sample pictures and dogbark.wav? (these are some of the first things to go when I start a new ROM)
Edit: Also no HTC X-button, which I almost always turn off. It never did mesh well with the way I use my PPC (closing/minimizing things to get to the today screen just to open the task manager).
I'm very impressed with how snappy everything seems to be!

Thanks for the comments! I chose to leave in the pics because they were really small, and I felt like there was some comfort factor involved for those transitioning from a stock rom. (When opening Pictures and Videos, its nice to have something there so you know its working.) I also sometimes use the dogbark for my alarm. (and its also small)
Actually the version 1.0 of x-button is built-in. This version is small, and its only function is to close an app completely if the x (close) is held down for a few moments. There is no today screen option. (Look in system settings, near the bottom, I think its called taskmgr or something. I've overwritten mine with a later version.) I didn't update it because I know there are folks like you who prefer other task managers, and I didn't remove it because for those who like to close their apps and not hide them its a simple solution.
Best wishes,
Many thanks for the Lite Rom, will try and see if working fine with my x01ht with chinese input.

Added screen shots
Well, per request I've added some screenshots to the first and second posts. Please note the screen capture app was added after the flash, and that available memory is larger than shown.
Also, we're around a hundred downloads, and I'm guessing the relative quiet here means everything is working great, and the rom is just boringly reliable and efficient!
Best wishes,
Found this rom very good.
On the subject of a2dp skipping, would brief pausing be called skipping? I have parrot mk6000 hands free carkit. It's bluetooth version is 1.2. I realize that bluetooth version 2.0 is downward compatible, could this have something to do with pausing? or is it a processing bottleneck? or buffersize issue?
Thanks in advance

A2DP troubleshooting seems to be a bit of an art. I can tell you that my Plantronics P260 stereo headset streams beautifully and skip-free while running internet radio, or any of the usual music players with the current settings. If I add another app to the mix, the music will sometimes pause while the other app is busy, then resume. If you are running TomTom while streaming internet radio, you might get pauses. Or, the 1.2 bandwidth could be an issue also in that case.
I did a mini-search and found a posting by pocc that might be helpful for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1406333
Generally though, the current thinking is that usejointstereo should be "1", and all the "bitpool" settings should be deleted for the best sound. See here. Which is the way I set this rom at default. If you do want to tinker with these settings, I suggest using one of the custom tweak apps, or getting a registry editor. Let me know if you need further help.

Best Practices for cleanup of files and general maintenance

Hello guys, I though it would be a good idea to list some of the best practices as far as cleaning up old files and general smartphone maintenance for the Dash and others.
So who wants to kick it off
uh
hmm besides the usual free memory button that i love to use.. my usual reg tweaks that i have done usually fix some stuff.. but i dont know too much else.. it isnt like you can defrag the b$%ch lol.
1. Free Memory
2. Celetask
3. SkTools --a must have
4. Restart (soft reset)
then Repeat lol!
Sktools - run auto clean then free ram
free memory
clear temp
reboot
The best way to clean all the crap up is to brew your own lite ROM. I just finished an Excalibur ROM based on the latest 20279 core. The homescreen looks like the S740 and the new dialer and comm manager are sweet! It works pretty well so far, but I wanna wait until tomorrow at least to release it to do some early beta testin...
looking forward to it !!!!!!!
Excellent post so far, I also use SK Tools and I have found it to be indispensable, with all the add/remove applications registries are updated and sometimes not re-updated when the applications are deleted. I suppose the best way would be to reflash your unit and load up all the apps you know you will use but that maybe a bit on the extreme side. I'm currently working on a list of all my apps and registration codes to quickly upload them to my unit just in case.
Here is the url for SK Tools http://www.s-k-tools.com/
I also personally love CeleTask not only as a quick launcher but a good tool overall
Can someone elaborate on their use of Celetask besides the "Free Memory" function.
Quick Tip for Celetask Status Bar
How to put the status bar to top?

Anyone care to give a step by step on using SKTools? How, for example, does one autoclean? How else do you guys use it? I have version v. 3.1.9 installed, and also have SKTools Lite available, though not installed.

Auto Clean! should be in your start menu.
Nope... The only thing added to my Start Menu is SKTools. Within SKTools, I get to a screen where I can select various tools such as Clean, Optimize, Tune Up, etc...

WMRegOptimizer - v0.1, October 6, 2008
This small tool was originally inspired by this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432966
About
WMRegOptimizer is a small tool that tries to optimize registry access - "defrag" it, if you will. It doesn't perfectly defrag it, but it goes a long way. This results in somewhat faster registry access for applications where this is the bottle-neck.
So this speeds up my device?
Not really. It lowers latency for certain system calls, which may result in some things being a bit faster. It doesn't magically make your device faster, but it may be more responsive in some situations.

SPB Mobile Shell 3 / diamond theme?

Hi,
I haven t flashed my diamond yet.
But yesterday I installed the spb 3 and it s amazing.
I even think it s faster...
Well, so my questions:
is there a diamond theme for spb3.0?
i ve seen there s one for 2.1, but it s not working on 3.0
Should I put a ROM for my diamond?
I want it to be as fast as possible (and possibly the touch screen to be more sensitive)
Which ROM would you advise me? (and can it be compatible with SPB3?)
I m not asking how to do it, just the latest ROMS avail that are faster and smoother.
i haven t properly understood how i can see what is inside each rom.
basically i want GPS working, i want tasks and calendar, internet and wifi and radio.
maybe a better video player cause the ones i have do suck.
That's it, thanks guys!
EDIT:
i have WM 6.1 how should I update to 6.5? is it easy? free?
i can t update weather data with SPB MS 3.
I have internet, it works.
but when I click UPDATE it does nothing...
Yes its free.
Yes its easy.
Run hardspl on ur diamond, and download one of the roms in this forum, then connect ur phone via activesync, start the program.
Then ur set to go.
Sry if that was a little hard to read, but i just woke up
ok thanks.
so you're telling me that WM6.5 comes preshipped inside some ROMS, is that correct?
Any ROM compatible with SPB MS3 and super light (but with GPSToday, Tomtom, Coreplayer or similar, wifi and some extra apps?)
Cheers

Flash ANYTHING else than the stock ROM and you will see about speed and smooth... And THEN compare it with SPB...

Win 6.5 is NOT OFFICIAL YET, so you can't have it in "preshipped" roms. What;s' out there is leaked betas.
Fast 6.1 Rom - Nataly (check Pietrucci's benchmarks), comes with kitchen so you can set it up the way you want.
Fast 6.5 rom - well, they are not THAT fast and consume more memory.
If you have manila CFC compressed, and a fast rom, then SPB doesn't offer any real advantages. It's just something different. I tried it, and, hmm... came back to TF3D. it's functional, smooth, etc. I tried to put out "i got used to it" factor, as you can get used to spb shell too. it's just that I didn't found any real (speed or memory) reasons to use SPB. And fork extra money for it on the top of it... TF3D is free after all....
As well, when it comes to the applications -you install what you want, don't expect to have tomtom in rom, apart from other things it's illegal.... ROM is a base. then you customize it (in kitchen ) or install what you want after.
Good luck in search for optimum config!
thanks for your answer.
ok so basically you're telling me SPB is not that fast compared to ROMs avail out there, and its functionnality is not that evident.
I like it a lot (though no way to update weather)
And my ROM is 1.93.,,,, radio 1.25... so it s not that outdated, is it?
which ROM should I put in order to have at least the same than what I have?
Cause it seems ROM development was huge some time ago, and you guys had the HTC diamond a long time ago... mine has 4 months, and this means it might come shipped with an already decent ROM. I wouldn t like to flash it with an older ROM and see some features/apps disappear... do you see what I mean?
Am I wrong? cause the google entries only show roms from 2008... is there anything newer out there?
SPB is just a today app, u can still use spb after installing new rom.
Belive me, if u install other roms like Energy ROM, it will be faster, smother and better.
After installing new rom just install SPB again.
Even if it looks like its older roms here, it aint.
Hope this answer will help you.
Cheers mate!

I STRONGLY suggest the use of searh feature:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Diamond_Upgrades
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512505
It helps ENORMOUSLY....
And in general - from the posts above I would suggest that you do first some reading. there's a lot of decent FAQ's here, as well as tutorials. Just read for 2 -3 evenings. It will be VERY beneficial to you, I hope.
After all, none of us was simply born with the knowledge.. And all of us had the 1st day with diamond, then some time on this forum, and then a lot of things became self-explanatory...
Good luck!
thanks guys
i read all this info a long time ago, did not upgrade, so I forgot a lot.
But I understand the ideas and the vocabulary
You said 2 things:
- upgrade the HTC site ROM. ok but it is not recognised when I type in my serial number. cause telefonica movistar SPN is a bit annoying for this.
as far as i remeber my readings, this would be solved when hardspl and ROM flashed.
- the numbers taht appear on the table, do not correspond to mines. So I guess this means I should get one of those, and try to proceed to the upgrade.
Is is worth? (i think it s better to get rid of that annoying logos and themes and crappy heavy processes shipped in the movistar ROM and grab the ENERGY one, or another one like Rhodian (have to read)
Anyway thanks for your answers.
I ll try to flash the ROM. First have to make a backup.
also i might have a dump of the ROM for guarantee purposes, done few months ago
cheers,
Hi,
Because speed is important, My suggestion is BsB ROM Specially Version J.(Windows Mobile 6.5)
Version L is slightly slower (Because of 10mb pp instead of 16mb-not big difference)
I'm using BsB ROM+SPB Mobile shell V3 and it works like a charm.
Good Luck!
When it is about speed, a review "works like a charm" is, how to say, highly subjective
I recommend the benchmark thread by pietrucci - so far this is the only objective test of many diamond roms.. and according to that, 6.5 is not that fast...
Sorry - that's what the benchmarks say...

I agree, but I must say that SPB 3 with a standard rom is a lot faster than any rom with TFLO that I've tested.

Hi,
Thanks for the benchmark, but i have to say :
1) Bsb 6.5 ROM isn't in benchmark . i also can't see Energy WM6.5 ROM in this benchmark. These two are fastest available 6.5 ROMs for diamond (in my opinion)
2) in my personal experience, spb mobile shell 3 on Bsb ROM, is faster than any Other 6.5 or 6.1 ROM.(specially if you change pp to 16mb-default is 10).
3)I think Bsb ROM is Quick because of Excellent Memory Management. with Mobile shell 3 running, i have more than 50MB free Memory after Boot(pp=10MB) and without SPB More than 61MB.
Give it a try, i'm sure that you won't be disappointed.
Good Luck!
OK, you may be right, but still, in order to say "is fast" you need to compare it to hard data. If you want to bother you should install SPB Benchmark and run it on this ant that rom, and ONLY then you will really see.
Having said that, at the end it doesn't really matter. What matter's is user comfort/feeling
And about memory - so you say "i have more than 50MB free Memory after Boot(pp=10MB) and without SPB More than 61MB." hmmm. In my configured rom (including extra apps like lumos, keyboard switcher, etc) after reset I have 56MB free. Without TF3d 64MB. So... this is rather standard for me Nothing special here...
But ultimately it comes to personal preference. I like Nataly, because there is kitchen and I can "trim" the ROM to my personal taste. Of course, the speed and LOTS of memory doesn't hurt...

HTC HD - BlackStone, my "Tweaked" Final Version.

Hello EveryOne!
I'm here since some weeks now, to look, try and improve everything. This, in order to build a final version of my HTC Blackstone in perfect accordance with my demands.
I mean:
Look, Speed, DailyUse, No Freeze, No Bugs, whatever the program I use. And I won, got the perfect one!
Please see here under:
A) Look:
Screens are in attachment...
Well it is sober, but that's what I like. My Htc BlackStone looks what it is: a BlackStone.
Sometimes, when I see what people ask here to developpers, I laugh and think: "Oh Gosh! Why don't they ask for a washmachine in their cell-phone too?".
B) Rom WM 6.1 Manila 2.1, and Radio:
The ROM is - HTC_Touch_HD_MR_2009_RUU_BlackStone_HTC_FRA_1.56.406.1
and the Radio - Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24
Why these ROM and Radio? Because they are the official of HTC, much easier for me to customize than some beautiful cooked I found and tried here, as Miri's, Dutty's, KWbr's or Panoshka's.
I tried other official versions, and I honestly don't see a meaningful difference, except that some added programs couldn't work properly.
I think the most simple it is, the best it works... So, even if mixing WN 6.1 with Sense 2.5, or WM 6.5 with Manila 2.1 works, the result seem to me too complicate. As well, making deep changes increase risk of instability, bugs, especially by adding other third party programs.
In fact, if you are developper yourself, you know what you do, then you can fix problems. But if you're not, then it's better to stay on one's level, without pretention or arrogance, and just try to customize with simple things...
C) Added programs, (IN THIS ORDER, laughing!):
01-BS_Rilphone_1_13_25_24.cab
02-NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab
03-Tnyynt SD TuneUP.cab
04-IPC_Black_Calculator.cab
05-Black Dialer EN.cab
06-Whiteglow Transparant Clock.cab
07-Glass icons.cab
08-Dutty's NoTopCurtain.cab
09-Diamond_TF3D_Config_Setup.cab
10-HD Tweak 0.5.4_French.cab
11-Celogeek_tweak_20080808.cab
12-mUn background4allpages.cab
13-HushSMS-v0.6beta.CAB
14-ACR Version 1.2.4.CAB
15-Express News 1.0.39.cab
16-DeluxeMoon.cab
17-BattLog0.2.3.130.zip
18-CorePlayer v1.3.6 Build-7427 for PPC.cab
All those programs can be found on the site, except for item 15-Express News and 18-Core player, I found on the websites using "search".
D) My comments:
Well, today, a cellphone can be use for quite everything: as GPS, Radar detector, remote control or...phonecalls!
Mine is fast, stable, safe, and does what I want efficiently:
Phonecalls, contacts, texts, mails, news, websurf, meteo, pictures, movies, music, FM Radio, and the Moon for fun...
I don't need more, and with this config, it is a rocket as fast as the new phones i tried: Iphone4, HTC Desire or Samsung Galaxy S.
I was about to buy a new one of these, to be "up to date", but I don't see the utility anymore!
A good config on a Blackstone is a MUST.
Best regards,
BobbyTrash
Ps: To perfect this look, I was looking for a ".cab" to make Topbar and Bottombar transparent, I didn't found it here. Some cooked ROM do it, perhaps a developper can provide such a cab...
In an other way, a short program allowing to rename and link easely unused tabs, would be useful too, whatever the ROM or kitchen...
mate you haven't cooked a Rom, your just tweeking
Yes, absolutely..
I just did it for people who search for simple customisation, more than for a cook...
I thought it was clear in my post, though! Thanks for your answer.
Bobby
probably should be moved to the themes and apps section
You're right...
How to do that?

Bobby
