1.) After the latest OTA update, my notifications are screwed, but I guess from reading the thread it's happening to everyone and I should just wait for a fix from HTC?
2.) Unfortunately the little town where I live outside my city has no 3G coverage, but my phone still tryings to connect to 3G and I end up only having one bar or no service, however, when it is on EDGE I have full bars. Is there an app or anyway I can disable 3G just like on the iPhone?
3.) I'm not too fond of HTC Sense. I really would like stock Android 2.3 or something akin to the Oxygen mod for the Desire. Is there anyway to get stock 2.3 android on my Desire HD or something similar?
Have a stock Desire HD thats fully updated, locked to "3" in Denmark. if that makes any difference.
Thanks!
1.) I tried a hard reset and even flashing the RUU, but problems still persist. I'm using GO SMS at the moment and no missed notifications from it.
2.) If you go to Settings > Wireless & network > Mobile networks > Network mode and set it to GSM only.
3.) There are some ROMs in the Development section. Not sure if they're filly working though.

If you want gingerbread check out this thread.
Its mostly working for most people but it is still alpha software so don't expect it to be perfect. Once the development team, Team Douche, finish adding their Cyanogenmod extras to it this will be the finest AOSP Gingerbread version you will find.
Thanks for the replies! I will look into the ROM you suggested!

When I go into "Network mode" I only have 2 options; "WDCMA only" and "GMS/WCDMA auto."
That's weird. Try going into the dialer then typing in *#*#4636#*#*. Then Phone information. Scroll down to
Set network type GSM only.

I want to be able to turn off the Radio only so that when I'm Wire-Tethered to my PC and playing a game I don't get any calls or texts to slow down my connection or be disturbed.
I found a thread in general where someone advised using tasker but it's $6 and I just want to be able to disable radio only. Airplane mode kills everything.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
There has to be a way...
There might be a way to do it via dial pad commands. I know that I was able to do this on a Droid in the past. I'm looking into, but make no promises.
edit:
Ok, this is what I've come up with.
*#INFO*1111# - Testing mode
Go into Phone Info...
Scroll down to Set preferred network type:
CDMA only
This should make it so the only cellular connection would be a data connection.
For my phone WCDMA Preferred is the default, which should be what you want to go back to to allow phone calls again.
Let me know if that works for you?
There's an app I used when I was on Eclair called Widgetsoid. It was the ability to toggle pretty much anything u can think of on your phone. I havent installed it since upgrading to Froyo so I can't verify that it can do what you need but its free and probably worth the download in any case. Check it out and let me know.

details of what this app can do are on the developer's website:

Doesn't list being able to disable text/voice while keeping data alive.
Thanks guys I'll check out both of those!

No it doesn't but I tried it anyway and found that no, it really doesn't. Thanks for trying though. I'm having a brainfart on typing letters into the dialer... how is that done again?

Just goto the phone dialer and type in those exact *,# and numbers (info is 4636)
once you put in the last # it will take you to the "testing" menu.
Let me know how it goes.
OK, I see it... will let you know how it works... Also, aren't our phones supposed to be set to CDMA? It had unknown and now it shows WCDMA. Isn't this the cause of the TWS bug?

It works great... Thanks!
Happy to help. I'm not sure exactly why it starts with WCDMA and then goes to unknown, haven't really looked into it too much.

It is the cause of the TWS bug. Our phones are constantly searching for a gsm signal never to be found. Causing battery drain. It has to do with the Galaxy S i9000 being gsm and samsungs poor ability to make changes to the coding.
Sent from my always stock, froyo Epic
This actually assisted in correcting or at least varifying another problem's solution. I've seen forum discussions point to PRL updates solving the TWS issue but other say it doesn't. However I installed sprintzone and let it install the PRL for my area. In doing so it set the default radio search shown using steve's info trick shown above. And no more TWS after reboots.
Woohoo!

With the new roms coming out I wanted to see if people have been able to test the gsm/world band functions. I'll be leaving the country in august and want to know if i will have to flash back to stock or if roms are working with gsm/world bands reliably now.
RMK's ROM seems to be working fine for me here in Afghanistan. I successfully called myself from my Nexus S with my AWCC card in, but for some reason calling VM failed. I think that may have been the roaming network though. I will try again today.
Moved to proper forum.

It seems that any of the carrier based MOD's work, but the question is does CM7 work? I loved CM7 but went back to the rooted GB RUU to ensure GSM functionality. I am not confident with CM7 nor do I know how to input APN's to get GSM functionality.

APNs are only for GSM Data - calls and text should work without it.
In the sense rom APNS can be accessed by first going to settings-call and making sure you have gsm/umts enabled.
Then settings - wireless and networks - mobile networks - GSM/UMTS options
I assume it's similar in CM7 but I heard only the nightlies have GSM support and haven't heard anything about how well it works.
I should probably just nandroid and try one today - can't decide between Sense and AOSP anyway

Thanks for the instructions. Where do you get the APN at? I need GSM data as well as calls, etc.
i use that RMK ginger ROM & my phone is unlocked. I have a Telefonica SIM card and found that it works just fine down in Mexico when making calls. There's no data associated with the SIM though so haven't tried that out.

I am running the same one, but I love CM7. I am awaiting a full understanding of GSM functionality and how to use it in CM7.
i tried CM7 nightly 31 and 32 and both doesn't have GSM working out of the box, but the rom itself was pretty impressive.
i opted for the "Incredible 2 Gingerbread Sense/less INCREDIBLY Debloated 8/6/11" by truelefty and chose the Senseless rom. GSM works out of the box, you just need to change out of global mode and instead into GSM ONLY (and UMTS if you have it in your area).
here's the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169991
also, i am using mobifone in Vietnam
i also read that miui can support gsm as well, so i'll try that later this evening. if someone has beat me to the punch, pls lmk
OMFGB and MIUI support GSM.
I think you might have to enter some apns and stuff manually buy that's just cause world mode is a recent feature. I tried MIUI last week and couldn't get it to work. I don't have a sim so I can't try this week.
OMFGB is sick... it is my favorite rom. Of course, if I could change the color of my battery line in MIUI... that would be my number 1.

thanks for the input. i didn't have any free time to try it out last night, but i did download the nightlies for miui and OMFGB and will be trying them out soon
Most of the roms listed as having gsm work with phone/sms but not data. I have tried most of them at one point or the other and I can only get data reliably with the china ota. I really was hoping to use the virtousy rom but it is cdma only

I am currently running lefty's senseless Rom with data. I am going back to the China ota to make a better titanium backup before completly switching to a new Rom, but fixing my problem opens new possibilities

I can and do use mms all the time. I am on softbank and I had to manually enter in the correct apn settings for the carrier and sim card being used.
I have been busy so I have not been able to test any new roms knowing the correct apn security settings. Maybe later today I can play with the released roms to compile a list of what works.

Hey there! I've recently started having problems using 3G on my DHD.
I'm running Android Revolution HD 5.2.3, but the issues started occuring many versions before this, I just haven't had a chance to sit down and look into the problem.
When I connect to 3G, the icon appears in the notification bar but I simply seem to have no connectivity at all. Occasionally the icon will change to a H. If I try to browse a webpage, the up arrow on the icon will light up and the down arrow will occasionally flicker, but nothing happens. Can't browse webpages or use any apps that require a connection.
Sometimes it will randomly start working again for 15mins or so and then drop out again. 90% of the time, turning airplane mode on and then off again will fix the problem for 15mins also before it drops out.
Does anybody have any idea what problem I may be having? I'm with Vodafone Australia.
Update: At the suggestion of another XDA member, I tried flashing another radio and I'm still having the same issue, so I assume it is not related to the radio.
Bonus Question: When I can get access to 3G, since upgrading to ARHD 5.2.3, the google homepage no longer detects that I'm on a mobile device and does't take me to the mobile version. How can I fix this?
Please do check your 3G mobile data APN configuration. Make sure the 3G APN matched with your current carrier 3G configuration (search google for your Vodafone APN setting). The letter H indicates HSDPA connection (or 3.5G, maybe).
In browser setting, check your user agent setting, set it to Android/mobile. If not, clear cache and data of Browser program in Manage Application Setting.

Fixed the browser, thanks!
However, I have set up my APN correctly (as far as I am aware) and am still having the issue. Could re-flashing my radio help?

You have a fine, working mobile data, so you shouldn't have to push radio,RIL or flash kernel though. My best suggestion was the APN thing mentioned earlier. Or its network carrier related maybe? Try to consult your carrier customer service.

I consulted customer service and they are uncertain of any problems and simply told me that their service is 'not guaranteed to be perfect'.
However, a friend who lives in my area on the same carrier with the exact same phone is having no problems at all with connectivity, so I'm certain it's related to my phone alone.

Wow, that is not a nice thing to say to a customer. Have you tried to revert to stock rom with stock kernel and vodafone radio?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
I haven't tried that as I couldn't find the stock vodafone AUS RUU (I think that's what I need anyway...)
But I've had a custom rom and custom radio since the day I got my phone and up until two months ago or so my internet has been incredibly fast and not dropped out once, so I'm doubting it's ROM/Radio related... Starting to worry that it could be hardware.

I'm afraid so too. That's the worst case scenario. Still, you should consult someone who's expert in this matter personally. Not the repair shop (that would be last resort).

anyone else had this problem?
Maybe you used all your 3G traffic for this month? About play store, did you check if "Download only when WiFi is available" is ticked? Although not sure if this might affect speed.test as well..

I finally managed to solve the problem. Just follow these steps, but bear in mind that i'm using a custom ROM so it might be a little different with you. Go to Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Access Point Names (or APN). Now select the APN that u are using. (I chose MTN Data since i'm MTN. Now go to "Proxy". There should be a number in there, delete everything that's in there and leave that field blank. Go to "Port" and clear everything as well. It worked for me.hope it works for u too. Let me know.

Hi there,
I did a flash rom on the HTC Wildfire buzz. I'm using the phone with a prepaid card.
For some reason everytime the phone is on, some money disappears from that prepaid card, even if the phone is used inside the house where it is connected to my wifi network.
For example, one day, I've seen 5 euro disappear from the card, and the only action that day was checking mail and send some text in "What's App" (in house, using wifi)!
Can someone explain what causes that high "data" usage and where my money is gone?
I've disabled menu > settings > accounts & synchronisation > background sync
I can't disable Auto-sychronisation

If you look at settings/WiFi and networks you can disable your mobile network when you are in the home. What data plan does your prepaid card use? Can you link to it? Also are you roaming at all?(outside of your normal service area)
To lose 5euro in one day is quite a lot. Do you have apps like Facebook that work in the background?
If you try installing apps like this it can tell you what's using your data
