just wanted to get some opinions. i have a droid x currently. its rooted and i don't have any problems installing custom roms for it. the problem i have is i get bored quick like most of us do and when i go to switch roms, maybe 1 out of 5 times i end up with a brick that i have to flash. its getting a little old. i'm guessing this is because the x isn't completely broken into like the incredible is. my question is, does anyone know of any advantages of the inc over the x. other than screen size and hd video capabilities on the x thats really all i know of that is actually better... any help would be great. thanks!
fyi: i put it this question in the development area because the majority of people in this section know more than the average people just looking in the general sections...
DInc gets HD video record now too, after 2.2 came out.

For me the biggest benefit is the 3.7inch display. The 4.3 is a little too big for me.
For the most part, the speeds and specs are the same. My co-worker has a X and I never really liked it. Not to mention I have a general hate towards Motorola.
The incredible has quite a few ROMs, however I have had HTC phones in the past with many more ROMs available.
I think the incredible is still a player, but with CES coming out next week, it may be a good idea to wait.
really? didn't know that. well, thats a biggie, cause i love that capability.

I love the ROMS available for the Inc but I do kind of miss the speed of my old Fascinate. It had a perfect 4" (nice medium between 3.7" and 4.3"!) Led screen. Just could mod it that much and I hated that!

Crystal ball says $150 phone on launch may be mid range.
Wait for a tegra dual core. Lightning bolt seems like it will be dated not long after launch.
I just find myself becoming an HTC fanboy. I had an Eris that I absolutely loved, and when my daughter threw it in the toilet (It still works btw, just have to replace digitizer), I got the Incredible. I just think they make quality products, the developers are creative and motivated, and you can get them free now. What's not to love? The only thing I would suggest is that if you get one, replace the SD card before you root and flash recovery. A lot of the EVO roms (and some AOSP if I'm not mistaken) won't take advantage of internal memory. It's just easier to avoid the PITA of having 1 gig free after recovery. I learned the hard way.
Also, check out dougpiston.com for a quick and easy one stop resource for rooting/recovery/radio files and instructions.
I hope I'm not violating any policy by posting another site. Cheers! Good luck with whatever you end up getting.

The dinc has 8gb internal storage and and tfcard slot, where the dx only has the tf.
The dinc has full compatibility with rom manager, without giving you that terrible 4 option recovery that overwrites the bootloader.
I have never seen amazing linpack scores from the dx, usually around 20-30 mflops, but I have been able to get around 50 on the latest gingerbread roms on my dinc.
The optical trackpad is a nice feature to have, especially for some games, etc. It also makes text selection a lot more precise, if you prefer aosp to blurred roms, (I think that you might lose the red cursor control, but don't quote me on it)
Other than that, I can't say as if there are any other differences really, but I would say that I'm very satisfied with my dinc, and I'm glad that I chose it over the X.

I have an opportunity to get a Droid Incredible fairly cheap (I'll keep the price to myself, suffice to say it's under $100), original box, all accessories, in good working condition. I've owned an HTC HD2 in the past and while I don't anymore, I'm wondering if I should:
- just save the money I am considering spending on the Droid Incredible and put it towards another HD2 when a good deal comes along
or
- get the Droid Incredible and make the best of it
I'm a tinkerer, always have been, and I know the HD2 is the best damned phone for people like me, but this is a really great chance to get a Droid Incredible. I'd miss the full 4.3" screen on the HD2 but at least the 3.7" on the Droid Incredible still maintains the 800x480 resolution which I can't do without (smaller phones with 480x320 or whatever, useless).
So I'm just asking to be asking: is the Droid Incredible a decent phone overall, with some ability to get the custom ROMs on it, with similar performance to the HD2? I know the camera is better on the DI but, apparently it can't do better than 800x480 for recording video (somewhat odd resolution, definitely, and far from proper 720p).
Anyone with experience with the Droid Incredible as well as the HD2 care to comment? If so, it's greatly appreciated.
Thanks...
It does do 720p actually, it came with the Froyo update. However, like the evo, the audio on the video still sucks. Anyway, performance wise, you shouldn't be dissapointed. The phone is a year old, but that just means there's a ton of Roms out for it. That's for sure. And it runs gingerbread wonderfully!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
So it now can do actual 720p recording? Ok, I didn't realize that now, didn't see a mention of it, thanks for the info.
Can I ask what you mean about the audio? Are you talking about audio that's part of the recordings made with camera, or audio on files that I'd be playing back, like movies or whatever I encode for playback on the Incredible itself? I know the HD2 had a serious audio lag issue with big video files but that got resolved at some point. I just wanted to get that point you mentioned clarified.
Thanks...
(reading up on the actual changes with the 2.2 update now, also)

Indeed, the audio of recorded video is AMR. Not the best.
My incredible is one of my main audio players. And honestly, I think it sounds better than my 4th Gen iPod touch. But to be fair, I use dsp manager to get the most out of it.

Yes the Incredible can record in 720p but the frame rate for recording is slower than that of the HD2 which from what I researched last night is capable of 720p at 30fps. Phone wise the Dinc would be a bargain to be had for its good looks and performance. Although with all the new tech coming out I would say if you can hold off for an even better phone you should just keep your money.
DINC|CM7|INCREDIKERNEL|VB-50
Well a tough call. If you get an incredible the community here with ROM's and kernels are great, developers are actively keeping up with the very latest updates of Android and tweaking them for optimum performance.
I don't think anything substantial will be coming out anytime soon, personally I'm not going to ditch my phone until a well built dual-core 4G phone comes out.
Gingerbread runs flawlessly but developers haven't been able to get 720p recording working on it *yet*. So if you need the 720p then I suggest you sticking with one of the many great froyo ROM's out.
I got mine for adding a line... which I then suspended, so basically it was free. And I am so glad I did, I was thinking of holding out for a TB, but best buy had a sale. Now that I've seen the TB's size and specs, I don't think it would have been worth the wait or the price. If you can get your hands on a cheap DINC with no contract do it, totally worth it. Just make sure it has a clean ESN like donny said.
Also these are awesome work horses, mine runs stable at 1267K, 43.102 MFLOPS. I'm at 21 hours with moderate data use since last charge. Plus there is a huge development following; plenty of ROM's, kernels, themes, mods
I would agree. I love my DInc, but paying out for the latest phone (Thunderbolt / HD2) is probably worth it. If you just don't have the $$$, for the newest phone, then definitely go for it.

Nope, I just won't get an upgrade on that line. I still have another line on my family plan, so it's just the $40 extra a month they're not getting.
Under $100? At least for me, buying that would be a no-brainer. Even if you don't like it, you could flip it for an easy $75 or more. Even if ESN isn't clean, it can still be flipped for a nice profit. People buy them for use on Metro PCS, Cricket, and other CDMA providers worldwide.
i'd save up for a htc hd2 it has the best of both worlds windows 7 and android.
I got an inc 2 months ago from dell (free phone with 2 year contract), so far I'm loving it. May not compete with the latest phones, but I'm running CM7, default cpu freq, and it's stable, and I can't see any visible lag, even when running ADW.
So here's the deal. I have my Desire for a long time. I got successfully cured from ORD But I still do touch it quite a lot
So my desire:
8gig class 4 sd card(I really need a bigger one, plus it's slow)
1ghz, sometimes undervolted, rarely overclocked
GPU+ drivers(I always check that the rom and kernel have them)
Oxygen HBOOT table
PlayerPro(used to have PowerAMP, until the trial expired )
Redux rom
AMOLED version(of course)
And out of my phobia that I still have a good phone I just _need_ to compare it to others. So here's a list, sorted by date... how I remember it:
Nokia N8 - nothing to say. But it performed surprisingly better then the 3GS in some parts
LG Optimus 2X Stock - Won, won everywhere but tegra games
SE x10 1.6 lazy fatass didn't update... and uses MY, MY gmail account! SO lazy! - I won so badly good, so, badly, good. Even though I thought 1.6 would beat me because it's well, 1.6, but I won, won good =)
Dell Streak 2.2 edited - oh man was that close! But in the end my skilled hands won again Plus he had that stupid ADW.Launcher(seriously guys, now I'll be rude, it's f***ing slow, just admit already, even the Regina 3D, 3D launcher is faster and actually battery saving!)
HTC Desire HD Stock - won, won, won, won, won
HTC HD7 Stock - surprisingly shocking fast! It surely beats the LG which was surprisingly... awfully slow, BUT it failed everywhere else (I expected that)
iPhone 4 Latest version no JB - I've compared with the guy a million times. I win everywhere everytime. Loser
Samsung Galaxy S Older stock - Won everywhere
iPhone 3GS that time newest OS+JB - won absolutely everywhere with a huuuge lead
Testing methodics:
No synthetic benchmarks
Just responsiveness and overall speed of OS
Few apps
Some veery intensive sites
And anything that comes in our minds the time
Discuss.
EXTRA NOTE
I've tried out other phones in the shop of course. But stock and presentation thingies? I mean I won, like always, but stock plus presentational? No really can't compare. But I won for all HTC including WP7 devices. Though would like to see galaxy s II and htc sensation.
bumpi bump bumpingo
I wanna smoke what you smoke.
This is pretty funny, I must admit LOL
Honestly, with the right tweaking it way seem like your phone is the fastest there is, but in real life, if you tweak evidently better phones, they will fly WAY faster than yours.
The problem is that you're comparing optimized stock against weighed down manufacturer UIs.

Yep, development is actually a good (biggest imo) point in keeping this phone. I won't feel like it's old until my favorite devs will move to something else
I love my Desire. I love it so badly I can't quite explain it. Since the beginning the only complaints I have had is I think it's a pitty not to have a 4 inch screen (that would make this thing 99% perfect in my opinion) and also no decent video player with features like screen lock to avoid acidental pressing etc...
All in all it's a wonderful device. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's better than the iPhone 4. I'll addmit it's a great device and software and ROMs keep it fresh, but the overalll responsiveness of the Desire vs the iPhone 4.... I'd have to tip my hat to Apple, albeit by just "that" much.
I read the term GPU+ on this thread for the first time today. Would anyone elaborate on what it is and why it's better?
Also I guess Redux has this GPU+ in it. Can anyone tell me if MIUI also has this or any way to implement it into the already working ROM?
Well comparing the Desire to an iPhone is just unfair...that device has better hardware, hands down...if you wanna be fair you have to compare it to a SGS (which has the exact same cpu/gpu). Anyway, personally i'd still pick the Desire right now, if i had to choose between that and the iPhone, the main reason being that i couldn't live without the freedom that android grants me now...i'd only move to a better android phone, nothing else.
Come on guys, seriously, why would you have an iPhone? Isn't a wife more than enough?

Lol @ wife comment. No, seriously, I wouldn't say no to an iPhone, but given the choice I'd go with Android. Apple just gives you that "just works" kind of feeling that I love. But my Desire also gives me a "98% just works" feeling plus the liberty to do what I damn well please with my expensive hardware and software. Also I found it shoking someone saying that the Optimus 2x is slower than our Desires. I had one in my hands for over an hour and I swear to God that thing is fast, fast, fast! Can't wait to see what 2012 holds for us. I plan on trading my Desire in 2012.
Optimus x2 is faster for sure, anyway looks like (at least that's what i heard) many of the current apps aren't really optimized for new dualcores: most of the time only a single core is used, unless the app is very demanding, so at least for now it's hard to feel that huge boost in everyday use...i guess it's like it used to be with some older games on the first dualcore pcs, where you had to force the program to use more cores via driver, because it was made with singlecore architecture in mind...but obviously it's just a matter of time before we get our butts kicked way harder by new gen phones
Desire is the best
The desire is the best thing I ever bought. the modding and tweaking is just great, thanks to all the great devs out there

So, had the One X since release date, always had HTC before this. But after having all the issues that have been described here on xda, I spoke to my network (3 uk) and they have said that so long as its within 28 days of the 4/4/12 that they will either replace it for a new one or any other model that they stock.
Now, I'm a flashaholic. I do not want to use the HTC unlock method, always relied on the very clever peeps here for "alternative" ways of s-off. But as it seems the biggest team of Revolutionary aren't working on the One X. I'm considering leaving the HTC brand and moving to the Galaxy Note?
Have any of you guys left the note to come here? It looks the part on paper at least?
Anyone else from 3 UK willing to take the plunge if the offer was sat there?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I think you shouldn't switch to the Note...
Sooner or later there will be a S-OFF tool.
The NOte is IMO too big, but that's your decision. The other reasons why I dodn't get the note:
- DPI is not as high
- the PenTile thing, this means the display has 33% red and blue subpixels. some people don't notice, but I do: there's not a single straight line. it appears as if every other row of pixels was shifted by 0.5 pixels; I just can't stand it.
I highly recommend you to check if that's a problem for you before getting it. Just saying
P.S: Even though the One X isn't perfect, it's the phone the closest to perfect I ever had.
Iff i waz you id go for Gnexus over note the note is ridiculously big my sister has it as a work phone
Mod or Die
see the thing is i am on Three UK as well. and i had the choice for my two replacements i had so far to go for a different handset. and both times i got close going for the gnexus. now all this hype about quadcore for me i am sorry i really did not notice it so far with the HTC one x...yeah apps load faster than ever but 50% of the apps stuck in loading phase...anyways still a great phone i say and i am more than likely to stick with it because i am really liking stock Sense now
but i do miss overclocking and undervolting and also using an AOKP rom...tough decisions to make one thing i do hate about this phone is though why HTC locked the bootloader..why not just unlock it..
Note no way man stay clear of that huge thing..no no no
Hmmmm? Thanks for the replies folks. As for the size issue (that's what she said!) Im not thay concerned, saying that I've never held one! But I currently have a Advent Vega, that if the Note could replace might be a good thing? Kinda streamline my tech, save me carrying 2 devices?
But aswell as a flashaholic, I'm a sucker for POWER! 1.5ghz quad core vs 1.4ghz dual core? I feel in a real dilemma, I love HTC, always have, but the ONE X has, so far, let me down.
@Dobbi, I will look into the red/blue pixel issue, I have now been spoilt by the quality of the one x screen! It is nice.

all honesty mate...it is like cameras..more megapixels does not mean you are going to get better picture. same with the quadcores..so far i would say and yes i know i might get flamed for this my s2 dual core felt bit more snappier at times compare to the one x. so if you are really a flashaholic then maybe the phone to go for is the gnexus...the development for that phone is crazy...but at this moment of time i still will go as to say i will stick with the one x..this must be the longest time i gone without flashing
In all honesty too........my Sensation felt better than my One X.
Please don't go mad at me people. I not a massive sense fan, so that was always the first thing that went once s-off was achieved and all the roms about seem to be sense based or desensed. Not AOSP. I respect all our Devs massively and I am not clever enough or do I have time enough to even begin to learn how to build roms from the ground up using AOSP. But even the sensation was lacking in these roms.
Oh man. I may have to have a long hard think about if I'm ready to leave HTC.

Note is excellent don't let anyone put you off it, I've played with it many times and the size is a sweet spot. I've had the S2 before the HOX and don't find the HOX that much of a jump in size. It's nice the 4.7" but the 5.3" of the note gives you some more real estate.
You get use to the size after a while.
I'm holding ship with the HOX for the time being the only phone that can sway me away will be the SGS3 only if it excels the HOX but for me it'll be down to the software side and not hardware. Sense > TouchWiz.
I'm in a similar situation only that I've not ordered my HOX yet and I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus. My biggest issue is to be frank all the problems you guys seem to be having with the htc , i dont care what people say you should NOT be having these sort of issues with a final retail handset. I jumped to samsung with the galaxy s2 after years of htc handset (android & wm) and looking back I'm glad I did. How can anyone defend this locked bootloader policy? seems like the days of simply plugging the phone in and flashing straight from the box are gone for htc which brings me onto samsung.... everything is geared towards flashing there phones, hell Ive even got a £2 clip which unbricks your samsung should anything go wrong With all that said I always a space in my heart for htc just a shame this whole mess may have put me off this time round.
Come next week when I can upgrade I'm 90% sure I'll order the samsung note partly for the reasons above and partly because it is such a sweet device despite the PenTile display which is not noticeable, trust me
oh and dont go for the gnexus if you use any games what so ever the gpu is crap and the main reason I switching (missing my psx gaming fun)

Let me know how that goes. If my One X replacement still has issues I might swap for a Note too.
I've used both nexus and note. Of the two the note is far better. After a day, the size is no issue. Plus the screen looks great, battery from what I've seen is good, but there is noticeable scrolling lag when compared to the one x.
That being said, the slight lag is not bad enough to deter someone. My dad loves his note

How is the Inc 4G by the way? I'm a bit curious to see how the phone is.
ICS and sense 4 super smooth, camera is great I might sell my DSLR , Size is the main reason I went with it there is an 1/8" in width and 1/4" in height over the original Incredible the redesigned case is nicer to hold also. Battery life is great compared to the original Incredible. Sense 4 requires learning a few interface curves but its all good, not so many redundant menus. I am very happy with it so far I just need to root and get ride of the typical bloat.
My understanding is it is root able but they are still trying to get s-off. Didn't read too much on it, the community there is horribly low. I only recognized andybones too.

so this phone is a nice upgrade over the OG Incredible? only thing i dont like is the screen size. after having my Dinc for a year and a half and seeing all of the new phones with bigger screens it kinda makes me want more.

I don't. That's why I want the Inc 4G. These newer phones are like phablets and are getting closer and closer to the Note.

That's why I didn't jump on the GS3 and am now stuck with buying phones at full retail. The idea of buying a nearly 5 inch phone to me is just stupid.. especially with all these people picking up a Nexus 7.
Tablet's getting smaller.. Phone getting bigger... nearly the same size...
With Edge to Edge glass.. and on screen buttons.. I think 4.3 would be fine (where before those things I would have said 4)
I have started to find somethings that need refinement http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30253227#post30253227
Right now I'm on Verizon with the Droid 3. it's a okish handset but I've noticed T-Mobile's great prepaid plan options and would love to take advantage. Only issue is which phone should I get? I'm a college student, and the purpose of switching is largely to save money, so I was hoping to pay around the 200 dollar mark. I love having a hardware QWERTY device mainly because it allows me to devote the entire screen to content instead of having a keyboard pop up all the time, but also for the tactile key feel. As such, I've looked at the G2, the My Touch 4G slide, and the Nexus S. All 3 seem like great choices but I can't make up my mind.
The Nexus S is the most logical choice from a development and "longevity" standpoint, but I'd miss the keyboard. The MT4GS has a great keyboard and more RAM than the Nexus S and G2, but there seems to be a bit more action going on with the G2 overall.
So far, beyond my better judgement, I'm leaning toward the G2 hard. Think it'll remain a solid daily driver device for a while, or is it getting "up there" in terms of age, development slowdown, and relative performance? I'd plan on keeping the phone for about a year or so, maybe more.
Thanks, hopefully you'll help me straighten out my options!
cost - g2 will be less than the others, new or used
i use the g2 and my girlfriend uses the mt4gs, personally i like the g2 better, yes hers is a bit faster and yes the development is picking up there. but here the dev community is very solid and the only phone ive used with a better keyboard then the g2 is g1. a keyboard is a dealbreaker for me so nexus s, i dont even consider
but again between the other two the one thing i like about hers more is the camera but the one on the g2 is just fine. well ok we could use more ram but my phone never lags so its obviously still good enough!

That's exactly what I was looking for, I'm fine stepping down camera wise if it means a phone with more support than the D3 (which has some but it's never gotten a ICS/JB rom that I could use as a daily, they're plugging away at it and i totally respect the devs who work so hard) has, a qwerty keyboard, and t-mobile.
Thanks for replying! :good:
I just came over from a MT4GS (R.I.P) to the Galaxy Relay 4g and I would highly recommend the MT4GS, I can't say OVER the others as I've never had a G2 or Nexus S but the Slide zips along, especially if you get it rooted and running CM9 with all the fixes and new kernels they have going over there. The phone isn't officially supported by HTC or by T Mo anymore so there is that but let's be honest if you cared you probably wouldn't be asking here lol. All I can tell you is that you won't be disappointed with a Mytouch 4G Slide. That processor and that camera are niiiiiiice.

The processor, RAM, and camera do make the Slide a tempting device lol.

After taking a closer look at the MT4G Slide forums, I'm probably going to go with that. It's a more futureproof bet I suspect.
I don't have to much experience with the mt4gs but I've owned my g2 since its released and I love it. My wife owns the my4g not the slide and its the biggest piece I've ever seen, she hates it and it has a lot of issues, so I would recommend the g2

A subject I didn't see touched on is sd card support, Neither Nexus S or Nexus 4 have micro sd card support. My last 4 devices both Windows Mobile and Android have all been qwerty devices. If u store pictures/music/apps go with a device that supports sd, The G2 is the oldest of the bunch but I feel its the best build quality then others, A few people I've asked about MT4G had to go thru replacements/returns a number of times.
G2 is also the smallest and lightest in your hand of the 3 devices u mentioned.

I would say MT4G I see its running official CM9 plus you'll get more ram. I thinking about getting the slide 4g but I'm passing and getting a Galaxy Nexus.

I own a desire Z (G2) - if it's intended for some frequent web browsing, it can get a bit annoying - it's slow to load/parse modern web pages...
HW keyboard is superb, overall speed is ok with available ICS/JB roms, but you can feel everywhere that it's a dated device while using it daily.
Battery is around 2 days with modest usage and wifi + data on only when U need them. If you use it as most people do, I guess it could hold up to 1 day.
If I were to buy a phone now, I'd be looking for something more modern really.
