Is Video enabled skype coming to WM 6.1? - Windows Mobile Software Development

Does anyone know if this new video enabled version of Skype is being ported to Windows Mobile (6.1) devices like the Touch Pro? Any timeframe.
Thanks,
Joe

Skype for Windows Mobile is not supported anymore ...

certainly not.
why?
because winmo 6.1 is purely and simply dead.
because winmo 6.5 is also in the graveyard with his little brother.
because skype has made already an end to this both plateform.

hahah hardly
wm6.x is hardly dead. is much more versatile than i-app-phone or goo-OS app crap...
Skype is losing revenue because there will be many that wont switch to limited os app based garbage.
cell phones in general are becoming dead in the beginnings of losing like landlines were 10 years ago... and there are other voip alternatives. you just have to look for them.

Salt at all, someone can tell me if there is a link to download a version of Skype running on a Samsung i900 Omnia with windows mobile 6.1 pro.
thank you for your interest.

Hi yann73 , in yahoo or in google search for "skype windows mobile" , look for the link that says "Skype Windows Mobile ... v3.0.0.256" , download file from a trustworthy site.
There are two types of files out there, one is a cab, another is exe, same version. Get the "exe" version.
Connect your Windows Mobile phone with your windows (pc/desktop/laptop) computer thru ActiVeSync type of sync software.
then run/execute the 'exe' version installer, it will install necessary stuff in ur computer first, then rightaway it will start to transfer+install inside ur Phone.
In my experience, i wasnt able to make the cab version worked on Phone, but the exe version when installed in Phone sync connection then it worked, ur experience may vary.
If audio doesnt work properly then you will also need the "WM Audio Redirector.zip" or AudioRoute, a free soft, search here in xda-dev.
As below phones are similar to mine, it should work on all of them : HTC Touch Diamond, Touch Diamond2, Touch HD, Touch HD2, Touch 3G, Mogul/Titan 6800, Kaiser / TyTN II , P4550 & Samsung Omnia i900.
That will allow to use Audio & Text chat . No Video chat support on that version of skype , unless some1 makes a VideoRoute software for it, like AudioRoute.

Windows Mobile 2003 or 2005 XDAII upgrade

Hello,
I was wounder where I can get the latest upgrade for my XDAII I already have Windows Mobile 2003 2.06.00WWE on O2 in the UK
It doesnt have windows media player 10 tho.
Anyone now?
Thanks,
Steven Ross
If not mistake, wm10 only appear in wm2003se ver 2.207
I used Windows Mobile 2003 SE and it's a great release but it does not include Windows Media 10, the only device to date that has WM10 is the JAM. So far no one has been able to implement WM10 on an XDAII (or any other device as far as I know).
But as me, You can try Windows Mobile 2005 but you have to remember that it's a BETA release, so you will encounter some problems but at least you'll get to enjoy several improvements also.
I'm happy with WM2005 because:
1. Bluetooth is much MUCH better. I use it for Activesync and bluetooth headset and always works even at the same time even while on a call!!!
2. Better GUI including Phone Dialer
3. Much more stable, even though it runs on very limited resources, it feels peppy and responsive
4. I feel safer knowing that if I ran out of battery my data and installed applications will be safe thanks to it's new persistant architecture
5. Picture and Ringtone assignment under Contacts (no more clumsy IA Caller ID).
6. Better MS Office Integration (i.e. Excel now can produce Charts)
7. Windows Media 10
Problems with current Magneto release that I can live with in the meantime:
1. Video Capture has a limit of 240x180 pixels and seems choppy.
2. No MMS
3. No Activesync through USB
4. Very Limited Program and Storage memory
5. Certain Apps and games that I like are not compatible with WM2005 yet.
Best regards,
Rayan

WM5

I was wondering when I have upgraded my Himalaya with Magneto. Too many bugs made me worry. The 2 biggest was:
-ActiveSync wasn't working...
-Too many applications that I was using with Diamond cannot install...
Can anyone explain me WHY is this incompatibility there? I don't understand WHY Magneto is not able to install/run applications that on 2003SE are working perfectly.
Thanx.
oh oh oh ...
imagine , you've got a pc , with windows98 and a lot of software installed ....
and , you install windows xp sp2 on your pc , but you install all the old soft you have installed on your windows 98 ...
Do you really think that all your old soft run fine with win xp sp2 ???
Nooooo
it's the same with wm2005
wm2005 is a new os , and like with news , some old softwares don't run anymore
Yes I thing...
...and I know that's normal. This is a wrong example, because all the old PC soft that I have in my comp works fine in XP. Upgraded from '98. In XP you can run also new MS-DOS apps. WM2k3se/2k5 is not like 98/XP in PC.
Ex:Intellipad is not working in 2003,but only in 2003se! Therefore I thing, that's relatively new software. However this soft is not running in Magneto. I say it once again. WHY this uncompatibility? It's a wrong step for Microsoft.
hard to say for sure who is to blame
if it's the 3th party programmers who are cutting corners and making hacks in their programs and those hacks then are not compatible when ms make their os more "stable" or deside to inforce the rules more strictly
or if it's ms who change the stk and how things are don in the os because they feel like it and dont care if it means that 3th party programs will have issues
or if ms are doing the 3th party programmers a favour by making sure they can sell upgrades / new versions of their software
XM5
It's called MONEY.
If you upgrade your OS then in some (not all cases) you have to upgrade the software - and that costs you money.
Their viewpoint is:-
Why should the companies who write the software for one OS in particular have to cough up to make changes to that software when a new OS version comes out?
It is hard to make software forward compatible when you don't know what/when it is coming out.
Upgrade OS at your own peril.
...
A little bit crazy...
MS WinXP supports the applications for Win98...
Then why not the same issue by mobile devices?
I don't understand coz it is not too much apps designated especially for Magneto. All the old software(even though it is very good) is then unusable...[/quote]

Hi,
ActiveSync works perfectly in all possible ways: over irda, over bluetooth and over cradle (usb/com)
Did you install ActiveSync4???
...
Yes I did it. I have tried up to 3 hours, have readed all the forums, did everything that's possible and no success to connection. I don't have IrDA in my laptop, but have built-in Bluetooth. No success also. Yes I couldn't connect that time via BT also with 2003se which works perfectly. Now I can connect via BT to AS,therefore it can't be so big problem. But the non-working applications made me worry. Shame... So good OS is the Magneto, but useless...
Don't get desperate!!
First things first, remember that this version of Magneto that you used to upgrade is not final. Hence, it will have bugs and compatibility issues. This is why most developers don't suggest people to install anything that is not final unless they absolutely need to.
As for the Windows XP vs 98 part of the thread, even though it is true that some 98 applications run flawlwessly on XP, you gotta remember what happened when XP first came out. Most (if not all) software and hardware to be installed warned you that you may have problems if you proceeded with the installation. Service packs and Windows updates knocked most of those issues out, which is why most 98 applications now run on XP. I hope this clarifies things
...
Thanx. I didn't watch the PCOS Windows evolution and therefore I didn't know, that XP was the same example as Magneto. If the final version of WM 5.0 will be as the WinXP and the old-applications friendly, then it will be very good piece of software.

Videochat software?

Ok, windows Live messenger mobile doesn't support it, neither skype... so the frontal cam of the trinity is useless?
Is it possible that the only way to make a video connection is a videocall? Doesn't really exist any software able to establish a videochat messenger like?
You can't say "it is useless except for video call" since this is exactly what it was designed for: 3G video call.
I understand that you prefer to use it for free, or cheaper through wifi connexion etc. and I wish I could do the same too.
Nevertheless, as far as I know, there is so far, only one sof which can allow you to make 'Instant messaging with video' on PPC, it is called Microsoft portrait. Something between Live Messenger and net-meeting...
There are two things which are not going to make you happy though.
1)
Video go through the rear camera, not the front one.
2)
Sounds as for other messengers, go through back speaker, not the ear-piece.
I had it installed a year ago on my wizard, but since I knew nobody using the same soft, I've never been able to test it out so far.
I'm ready to reinstall it on if you or anyone on this forum is willing to make some tests with me.
There is a version for PC, of course, so it is possible to test it on your PC too.
I heard it can work along with MSN, but both sides must have both softwares installed Live Messenger AND Microsoft Portrait.
You may ask: so what is the big deal about this software? the big deal is that this soft is optimised to use a very small amount of band-width, either 9600 kb (regular gsm connexion) wich gives a quite grey image, or broad band, wich gives you then full colors effect.

maybe ms will change that in a later msg release
maybe in 2009 or 2010

Actually, technically, it is already possible in a messenger application, from Tencent in China: QQ2007. And it uses the front camera.
The problem is that Tencent want to make a living out of this service, therefore, you have to be connected through the 3G service of a Chinese Telecom Operator, otherwise, it doesn't allow you to sign in...
Unlike previous version of QQ, when you are connected through wifi it doesn't work on the windows mobile version. There is a walk-around for nokia version, but nothing for windows mobile...
It's really a pity cause the technology is there, it's just a matter of that they don't want to provide it for free.
There are a freeware software for videochat: packetbone (an old release)
Another option is iFon from http://www.tabletmedia.com/ifon.html , seems the best solution for now
Best Regards Happy New Year!

correct me if im wrong .. I believe this is the latest windows live v10.6.33.0600, click on my link below my signature to get the latest version. theres a lot of other stuff as well.
There are 2 newer versions then the one provided in the link above, but they do not include Live Messenger. They are 10.6.38 and a 10.6.40. If you need Live Messenger then the 10.6.34.800 is the newest version.
Here is the official link off of Microsofts website.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/mobile/wl/download-en-us.mspx
I also learned something new which is probably the cause of all my recent WM Live problems on 6.1 ROMS. On 6.0 ROMS I could install it on the storage card, but on 6.1 ROMS it was completely jacking up my phone.
Q: Can I install this product on a Storage Card?
A: No, Windows Live can currently only be installed to your device’s internal storage. Storage cards are not supported for this application as it extends several Windows Mobile features.
and the beta version use to aloow you to send a nudge from your device
not anymore bastards! loved that feature!

Thank you soooo much!!!!
I re-flashed my phone removing windows live+messenger from it because data plans here in NZ cost a small fortune (and i wanted a lighter rom for flashing), only to discover I could connect to my home wireless with 6.1 (and couldn't with the old 5.0 on my apache)
Thank you so much for the .cab for live+messenger. Damn microsoft removing it from the download. VERY UNCOOL!!!!

I have tried everything but I can't get messenger working the way it's supposed to.
I have the Verizon branded HTC Touch Pro, which doesn't ship with wlm. I've been able to get the one of MS's site (with no wlm) and it works fine. But no wlm. So I tried the "fixed" cab install, which installs and the program shows in the list of apps. But when I click it it doesn't do anything. The interface also gets screwy and theirs like artifact-lagging from menus. The first time I got it running, it showed up on the today screen and loaded my live ID, but just wasn't responding to my input. I unistalled and have tried it again but now the button for the app doesn't even do anything. Click, no response.
Help!
this is not a custom ROM, it's the stock wm6.1 pro for a "ralph".

does anyone have a tested version that works with 6.5
Im gettin a weird message by setting up windows messenger.
I installed it, and tried to run messenger, then this message appears:
"The Windows live id service requires a certificate, but yours isnt working. you can probably fix this by updating the time and date in your device´settings. Afer you do that, try connecting again."
I tried change date and time, but it wont work.
Anyone an idea?

You have downloaded it from the Microsoft website?
Well, yea I did. But now it sounds that there is no official 6.1 update for some phones. I don't know, im new to this stuff.
Mh, there is no choice for a download from microsoft. Are you sure you download an update to Windows Mobile 6.1 and NOT to Windows OFFICE Mobile 6.1?
Like here: Microsoft Office Mobile 6.1: Upgrade
Later there will be an update also for the HTC touch but not now...
Hey, what you've downloaded is a smartphone edition. Your HTC Touch requires a Touch-screen version, which is known as the 'Professional' edition eg. WM 6.1 Professional. You should go to the 'Elf' section in this forum instead of this. This section is for users who do not possess a HTC-built Windows Mobile devices.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366424
and if your touch has 128mb ram, its called an elfin, and if it has 64, its called an elf. its very important u dont get them mixed up.
the amount of ram you have can be found by going to settings, then the system tab then device information
Hope ive helped
and remember to use the search button in the top left.
