Windows Mobile 2003 or 2005 XDAII upgrade - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello,
I was wounder where I can get the latest upgrade for my XDAII I already have Windows Mobile 2003 2.06.00WWE on O2 in the UK
It doesnt have windows media player 10 tho.
Anyone now?
Thanks,
Steven Ross

If not mistake, wm10 only appear in wm2003se ver 2.207

I used Windows Mobile 2003 SE and it's a great release but it does not include Windows Media 10, the only device to date that has WM10 is the JAM. So far no one has been able to implement WM10 on an XDAII (or any other device as far as I know).
But as me, You can try Windows Mobile 2005 but you have to remember that it's a BETA release, so you will encounter some problems but at least you'll get to enjoy several improvements also.
I'm happy with WM2005 because:
1. Bluetooth is much MUCH better. I use it for Activesync and bluetooth headset and always works even at the same time even while on a call!!!
2. Better GUI including Phone Dialer
3. Much more stable, even though it runs on very limited resources, it feels peppy and responsive
4. I feel safer knowing that if I ran out of battery my data and installed applications will be safe thanks to it's new persistant architecture
5. Picture and Ringtone assignment under Contacts (no more clumsy IA Caller ID).
6. Better MS Office Integration (i.e. Excel now can produce Charts)
7. Windows Media 10
Problems with current Magneto release that I can live with in the meantime:
1. Video Capture has a limit of 240x180 pixels and seems choppy.
2. No MMS
3. No Activesync through USB
4. Very Limited Program and Storage memory
5. Certain Apps and games that I like are not compatible with WM2005 yet.
Best regards,
Rayan

WISBAR ADV V2.0 and BA

Running the O2 XDA IIS with the Imate 1.40 ROM installed WISBAR Advanced V2.0 I like it but when someone calls I get no notification no sound no picture CID etc. the backlight comes on but that is all I soft reset my device and it did work once but then went back to no notifications. I uninstalled WISBAR and all is back to normal.
Anyone else experience this issue or have any suggesitons?
Thank you
:?:
If you look at the Wisbar's site, you will find:
Supported Operating Systems
PocketPC 2002
Windows Mobile 2003
Windows Mobile 2003SE
(Please note that this is not yet compatible with PocketPC Phone Devices)
so its not compatible with phone edition versions of WM2003SE.
I faces more problems than yours, until i found a new BETA version for WM2003SE phone editions.
It has many new amazing features, such as phone signal meter, battery meter, skin folders on storage card, ... etc
The BETA version is 2.0.1.29
You can get it from here: http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1977
Cheeeeeeeeeeeers
ezzkht
Installed the beta so far so good but it has only been about 20 minutes
Thank you for pointing me toward the beta
No problem dude..
I am using this beta version for more than 1 month. Its going alright.. no any further problems till now 8)
Wisbar advance
Do any of you find that the wisbar sometimes stalls for a few seconds and eventually closes?
This is the only pain I had so far. It does happen quite often.
Cheers
fychan
Been running the beta for over 5 hrs now and have not noticed the type of behavior you are describing.
Yes, the .29 beta does shut down on it's own sometimes. It's still in it's beta stage so I can't complain. If i don't aggravate the app, it behaves properly. I can live with it for now. Another problem is that some application will remove itself from the top bar or just close for no reason. I'm hoping the creator will fix it on the final version.
BTW, I read that the version for 2005 will be another complete re-write due to the OS and how it uses the memory.
does anyone have a link that works for the beta version? the supplied link download is not working anymore..
The current version of Wisebar is 2.4.0.1 and their web site advises that it supports the following Operating Systems
PocketPC 2002
Windows Mobile 2003
Windows Mobile 2003SE
PocketPC Phone Devices
I am running this version of wisebar on an XDA IIs but have removed the O2 software which seems to make it more stable. No problems so far.

WM6 Internet Explorer to WM5

Hi all,
Someone succesfully extracted and ported the excellent Windows Mobile 6.0 Remote Desktop Mobile into a CAB which installs and works on a Windows Mobile 5.0 device.
Now the question is: did someone every manage to do the same magic with the Internet Explorer (which has high resolution mode) of WM6?
I've played with the T-Mobile Ameo on the CeBIT and was surprised to see that the Ameo's Internet Explorer (Windows Mobile 5.0 AKU 3.3) had a high resolution mode.
Is it somehow possible to port that to the Universal's Windows Mobile 5.0 IE?
Well i know that Ivan ported it to his AKU3.5 tests - definitely had the hi-res mode in there, but i can't get hold of these any more - desparate to get them if anyone can help please
I think the best solution - if possible that is - would be a CAB that OVERWRITES the standard IE with the one that supports high res browsing. Or a CAB that just adds the feature.
Overwriting would be neccessary, because it otherwise wouldn't be possible to launch the IE by pressing the IE hardware button (since you can't assign another program to that button).

Microsoft Gears Up Windows for Devices (6.0 R2 on Nov. 15)

Operating system maker Microsoft is currently working hard on delivering the next version of Windows Embedded CE in November and on tapping the lucrative market for service-enabled devices. Kevin Dallas, general manager of Microsoft's Windows Embedded Business group, said the company plans to launch Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 on Nov. 15 at the Embedded Technology 2007 show in Yokohama, Japan, known as one of the "world's largest trade show and conference for embedded system designers and managers."
The new operating system will be the foundation for service-oriented devices, Dallas told eWEEK in an interview. Windows Embedded CE 6.0 will feature support for Web services on devices, VOIP (voice-over-IP) video technology capabilities and Internet Explorer updates. "We're clear on the opportunity moving forward and we're going to deliver an operating system to go into an intelligent device," Dallas said.

Any chance we can get this to work on Trinity? I have been told that upgrading to 6 at the moment is pointless as it is very slow, whilst this release fixes that and is the same speed as WM5.

I haven't noticed much change in speed although it uses more program memory.
It is much slower than WM5.

You are the first one to hear something like that...
Are you serius???
When you are in a clean install try to open the windows folder (with hidden file's enable) in wm5 and try it in wm6 to understund and see what you say.
After that post the result's...
He he
I don't think wm6 is slower than wm5 at least not the versions I have been trying out over the months, plus the icons on wm6 are kind of different and smoother so this could cause the system to lose some speed.
As for the battery, both last the same to me,these are just my personal experiences.
If you ask me wm6 is faster I can notice just by opening the file explorer.

What?!?!?!?...I don't think so...In my opinion, WM6 is way faster...
This is something that has been so debated...
I believe this is talking about real WM6. What we consider WM6 is just a nicer looking WM5 with a few changes. I believe WM 5.2.2 is what WM6 is for us, and the WM6 they're talking about is the real deal.
WM6 is quite faster than WM5
The best way to emphasize the performance difference between WM5 and WM6 is effectively to browse files in the system library.
Difference is huge...
What your talking about there is accessing lists of files, what we are talking about is opening times of applications etc. as in performance benchmarks. WM5 on Trinity is much faster than WM6 in its current form. Hense the reason for the new update from MS.
Windows Embedded CE has nothing to do with Windows Mobile.
Beg to differ as this is will be for both for devices and for mobiles

Microsoft reportedly has been talking more than usual about the future of embedded Windows OSes. Recent revelations range from the short-term -- the release of "Windows CE 6.0 R2" next month -- to a long-term vision of "MinWin," the stripped-down kernel that will be at the heart of "Windows 7."
Windows CE 6.0 R2, XP Embedded SP3, Vista Embedded
Regarding Windows CE 6.0 R2, Kevin Dallas, general manager of Microsoft's Windows Embedded business group, used an interview with our sister publication, eWEEK.com, to reiterate plans first revealed in his keynote at September's Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) in Boston. The new version of Windows CE will feature new support for Web services on devices, new VoIP (voice-over-IP) video technology capabilities, and Internet Explorer updates, he said.......................

General Question about the Blue Angel

I am getting started with the Blue angel (O2 Xda IIs)
I like it a lot this will probably become my best buddy during my travels
I intend to use it for business purposes, mainly Internet through
Wifi and GPRS, pdf and offices documents.
I saw on this forum that you advise to change from WM 2003SE to Windows Mobile 6 (the last published by Microsoft)
-My question is: This PDA is already a bit old now, is it going to work smoothly wit the very last OS, which is designed for more recent PDAs (i.e which should be more efficient).
I mainly want to use it for Internet, wich browser do you recommend ?
Internet explorer? Opera Mobile? Opera Mini? other browser?
By the way what is the difference between Opera Mobile and Opera Mini
1. I propose you to search for information about differences between 2003 and wm5/6. Ity is hudge.
2. Look for problems you might encounter after update (not to be suprised). WM5 was never officially prepared and unleashed for BA, so it's straightforward and problem-free, but it works fine after all, if you know what you are doing.
3. Yes, WM5, WM6 and even WM6 work fine on BA (with some usual small problems). Speed is very good and much better than many other devices (for example my HTC Hermes is MUUUUCH slower that BA).
4. It's worth updating mostly because new software is usually not compatibile with PPC2003 any more.
5. Browsers: you have to test and decide on your own what you need, how you want it be feed and what are your restictions (speed, security). Like there is no one car for everyone (apart from Ford T) there is also no one browser for everyone. Test, try and choose on your own. You have the choice now (IE, Opera Mobile, Opera Mini, Netfront and 2 other experimental based on WebKit).
Opera mini is a java applet: you request a page, it is prerendered on proxy server in Norway (at Opera) and send back to your phone in scaled down version. Cheaper, faster, but less secure (never use it for your online banking). Works on virtually any java-enabled cell phone with internet access.
Opera Mobile is full Windows Mobile browser that downloads and renders everything directly on your phone. Worth trying, especially upcoming 9 series looks promising (alphas are already circulating on XDA forums).

Is Video enabled skype coming to WM 6.1?

Does anyone know if this new video enabled version of Skype is being ported to Windows Mobile (6.1) devices like the Touch Pro? Any timeframe.
Thanks,
Joe
Skype for Windows Mobile is not supported anymore ...
certainly not.
why?
because winmo 6.1 is purely and simply dead.
because winmo 6.5 is also in the graveyard with his little brother.
because skype has made already an end to this both plateform.
hahah hardly
wm6.x is hardly dead. is much more versatile than i-app-phone or goo-OS app crap...
Skype is losing revenue because there will be many that wont switch to limited os app based garbage.
cell phones in general are becoming dead in the beginnings of losing like landlines were 10 years ago... and there are other voip alternatives. you just have to look for them.
Salt at all, someone can tell me if there is a link to download a version of Skype running on a Samsung i900 Omnia with windows mobile 6.1 pro.
thank you for your interest.
Hi yann73 , in yahoo or in google search for "skype windows mobile" , look for the link that says "Skype Windows Mobile ... v3.0.0.256" , download file from a trustworthy site.
There are two types of files out there, one is a cab, another is exe, same version. Get the "exe" version.
Connect your Windows Mobile phone with your windows (pc/desktop/laptop) computer thru ActiVeSync type of sync software.
then run/execute the 'exe' version installer, it will install necessary stuff in ur computer first, then rightaway it will start to transfer+install inside ur Phone.
In my experience, i wasnt able to make the cab version worked on Phone, but the exe version when installed in Phone sync connection then it worked, ur experience may vary.
If audio doesnt work properly then you will also need the "WM Audio Redirector.zip" or AudioRoute, a free soft, search here in xda-dev.
As below phones are similar to mine, it should work on all of them : HTC Touch Diamond, Touch Diamond2, Touch HD, Touch HD2, Touch 3G, Mogul/Titan 6800, Kaiser / TyTN II , P4550 & Samsung Omnia i900.
That will allow to use Audio & Text chat . No Video chat support on that version of skype , unless some1 makes a VideoRoute software for it, like AudioRoute.
