You have downloaded it from the Microsoft website?
Well, yea I did. But now it sounds that there is no official 6.1 update for some phones. I don't know, im new to this stuff.
Mh, there is no choice for a download from microsoft. Are you sure you download an update to Windows Mobile 6.1 and NOT to Windows OFFICE Mobile 6.1?
Like here: Microsoft Office Mobile 6.1: Upgrade
Later there will be an update also for the HTC touch but not now...
Hey, what you've downloaded is a smartphone edition. Your HTC Touch requires a Touch-screen version, which is known as the 'Professional' edition eg. WM 6.1 Professional. You should go to the 'Elf' section in this forum instead of this. This section is for users who do not possess a HTC-built Windows Mobile devices.

and if your touch has 128mb ram, its called an elfin, and if it has 64, its called an elf. its very important u dont get them mixed up.
the amount of ram you have can be found by going to settings, then the system tab then device information
Hope ive helped
and remember to use the search button in the top left.

I just saw this article today. I guess it'll be time to start cooking some 6.1 ROM's soon
Most Microsoft-powered smartphones being released today are powered by some form of Windows Mobile 6, but it seems like the popular mobile operating system is due for another update. It's not exactly Windows Mobile 7, but the upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 will bring about a whole new user interface similar to the one found on the Vodafone Treo 500v.
The innovation is being called a "carousel." Instead of launching a series of applications, you are asked "what do I want to do today?" Along the top of the display are a number of "zones" which you navigate between by going left or right. Within each of these zones are various "actions" and these are accessed by moving up and down.
Other updates to be included in Windows Mobile 6.1 are improved WiFi connectivity, Exchange integration, and better implementation of Bluetooth technology. The announcement of the "new" OS is rumored for February with an actual launch on actual handsets tentatively scheduled for May.

Good news.. but its a bit old news
Is it? I thought I finally had a scoop for you guys. Sorry if it's old news, but it sounds like an interesting change coming...
drgopoos the mobile jammer on this site http://www.onlygizmos.com/ would be nice to have
the bad part is that it looks like it may not be designed for phones with a touch screen (smartphone only not pocket pc) so the upgrade may not work on the hermes.

hahhah me too
Meh, I dunno. To me NEW doesn't seem better in this case. Not a fan of the What Do You Want To Do Today sound of things.
This is for Windows Mobile Standard (smartphone), not professional (pocket pc phone) hence why it doesnt seem like it's gonna work well with touch screen.

I am happy to use it on WM professional all the same. I use softkeys and D-Pad a lot to navigate the screen anyway. So bring it on!!!
I'm not sure how much discussion has gone on about this subject but I had an odd question.
With all of this development going on with Linux/Android for the vogue, I was wondering if it will be possible in the future to create an actual ROM for our vogues that will replace Windows Mobile as the OS. NFSFan's great roms attempt (very successfully) to fix the problems with WinMo, and the Android port is a separate program that runs off the storage card. I'm curious if one day it'll be possible to completely remove windows mobile in favor of say android or whatever else gets developed for the vogue, and if so will it be possible to flash back to windows mobile afterward?
Just some thoughts and questions.
Android Was Sucessfully Ported To The Vouge
I Have Good News And Bad News For You
The Good News:
Google Android Lunix Was successfully ported to the HTC Vogue By An Australian Computer Scientist. More info can be found here.
The Bad News:
Windows Mobile 6.5 and WM 7 Seem to ve so verry pomrising for PPC users that many are not going to want to switch to a Linux based OS at this time. in fact NFSFAN made the latest leaked version of windows mobile 6.5 availble to the HTC Vouge Here. Anoother Reason A Full-On Linux Rom May Not Cme Out Is That may disros of Linux including mobile distros (this includes android) are produced for free under the terms of the GNU general Public License. That says that usres are "Entitled and encouraged to copy modify and redistribute" the content. Witch Means Microsoft Wloud Not make their Money.
I admit it is a good idea for Linux roms as an alternative for those who dont't like their winMo devices. But then again android and symbian Linux only makes up less than 5% of the smart-phone market at the present time

I disagree completely - Android will be a major player and a native ROM would be awesome. Android is so much more than Symbian that its disgraceful putting them together in the same sentence. It hasn't been around very long yet but give it another year or two and I predict it will not be very far behind WinMo in market share.
Also, when you say another reason a full rom won't come out is because MS won't make their money - the devices have very little to do with MS; HTC, Samsung, HP etc all make PDA's which happen to run WinMo but now that there is a cheaper (free) alternative to WinMo I'm sure they will all have at least one device running it.
I really hope someone (NFSFAN ) puts out a native Android ROM for the Vogue.
BTW the link you posted is for the storage card install and not a native android install.

Maybe this could be interesting too.

How dare you! I'm a WinMo 6.5 fan myself - really liking this version. Just waiting for Android to support all of the Vogue hardware to try it out (ie GPS).
Now I'm currently with Verizon Wireless. The service is exceptionally well. Now I know the HD2, or HTC Leo is rumored to debut on T-Mobile. I know there's an HTC Passion or HTC Dragon coming to Verizon Wireless, with the exact same stats of The HTC HD2 or HTC Leo. I've been a fan of Windows Mobile especially as of lately with the Windows Mobile 6.5. Android doesn't have the eye candy I'm looking for and it really turns me off they only allow you 256MB for applications on your phone. Windows Mobile allows you to install apps to your SD card, which is a major plus for me. Plus there are rumors that Windows Mobile may get access to the Android Marketplace.
With that being said, I want to get the HTC Passion, but I'd like to have Windows Mobile 6.5 installed on it, instead of the Androids 2.0. Is that possible? I know it can work the other way around, but can it work this way? Please let me know ASAP....if so, can anyone tell me how?

I'm pretty new to Android, but I am pretty sure you can do this with APP2SD

I would like to know this as well...
I am pretty sure I am going to convert to Android soon, but I would feel a lot more comfortable with the transition knowing that I could go back to WM if I change my mind... or at least that the possibility exists and is being worked on.
I bought by Diamond last year containing Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. However i updated the rom and started using Windows Mobile 6.5. Actually i don't like the looks and my phone also gets slow with the current os. Can i restore my original os i.e WM 6.1 professional with 3D touch flo?
Thanks in advance.
Welcome aboard!

Hi,
It seemed to me you are new here on XDA. Welcome aboard!
Our Diamonds are not capable enough to run many things together due to limited RAM . But you can try out different ROMs with WM6.5.3, possibly clean ones with Titanium UI or simply WM classic today. I love WM6.5.x look and feel as compared to WM6.1, I'll never go back to 6.1 now And of course M$ have updated a lot of things which are useful in your daily usage.
Although coming to your original question, you can always flash original ROMs from HTC, just download from www.htc.com and flash it. But if you want to live with 6.1+tf3d there are few better ROMs roaming around in this forum, just try them out. Cooked ROMs are far more better than HTC original ones .
Also don't forget to read, Read, and READ all the stuff on WIKI and support threads in this forum. It will help you a lot
Happy flashing! Cheers!
Does anyone know if this new video enabled version of Skype is being ported to Windows Mobile (6.1) devices like the Touch Pro? Any timeframe.
Thanks,
Joe
Skype for Windows Mobile is not supported anymore ...
certainly not.
why?
because winmo 6.1 is purely and simply dead.
because winmo 6.5 is also in the graveyard with his little brother.
because skype has made already an end to this both plateform.
hahah hardly
wm6.x is hardly dead. is much more versatile than i-app-phone or goo-OS app crap...
Skype is losing revenue because there will be many that wont switch to limited os app based garbage.
cell phones in general are becoming dead in the beginnings of losing like landlines were 10 years ago... and there are other voip alternatives. you just have to look for them.
Salt at all, someone can tell me if there is a link to download a version of Skype running on a Samsung i900 Omnia with windows mobile 6.1 pro.
thank you for your interest.
Hi yann73 , in yahoo or in google search for "skype windows mobile" , look for the link that says "Skype Windows Mobile ... v3.0.0.256" , download file from a trustworthy site.
There are two types of files out there, one is a cab, another is exe, same version. Get the "exe" version.
Connect your Windows Mobile phone with your windows (pc/desktop/laptop) computer thru ActiVeSync type of sync software.
then run/execute the 'exe' version installer, it will install necessary stuff in ur computer first, then rightaway it will start to transfer+install inside ur Phone.
In my experience, i wasnt able to make the cab version worked on Phone, but the exe version when installed in Phone sync connection then it worked, ur experience may vary.
If audio doesnt work properly then you will also need the "WM Audio Redirector.zip" or AudioRoute, a free soft, search here in xda-dev.
As below phones are similar to mine, it should work on all of them : HTC Touch Diamond, Touch Diamond2, Touch HD, Touch HD2, Touch 3G, Mogul/Titan 6800, Kaiser / TyTN II , P4550 & Samsung Omnia i900.
That will allow to use Audio & Text chat . No Video chat support on that version of skype , unless some1 makes a VideoRoute software for it, like AudioRoute.
