Hey All,
I am trying to install CyanogenMod 6.1 onto my DHD. I have successfully rooted, but when I try to install ClockworkMod Recovery via Rom Manager, It says that the flash was successful, but when I attempt to reboot into recovery I get a red triangle with an exclamation mark. I'd upload a picture but as I am new I'm not allowed yet
So obviously it hasn't installed properly even when it says it has. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, and when I try to install older/newer versions of CWM, it says that an error has occurred.
Does anybody know how to fix this? or alternatively is another recovery firmware available, such as Amon_RA for the DHD?
Thanks in advance guys
on the sdcard in the Clockwork directory, delete the .settings file and the download directory.
Try again it will flash now.
I have already 'reported' the problem here.

Hey there leppie,
I did as you instructed, I closed the application, deleted the .settings file and download directory inside the clockwork directory, and it reinstalled. No difference, still getting the phone icon with the red triangle and exclamation mark
do you any other suggestions I could try?

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your post. Does it have something to do with the discussion?
I'm getting the same red triangle and I've also tried your solution but still no joy
You are rooted, but are you s-off? You need s-off to bypass the emmc lock on your phones memory.
If you have only root, anything you flash will disappear back to stock whenever you reboot.

Thanks for your reply, I am currently S-ON, which probably explains the issues I'm having. Could you point me in the direction of a straightforward guide for turning S-OFF for the DHD?
You can take a look here, here or here, for example. Or maybe next time you could try to use that funny button with "SEARCH THIS FORUM" written on it.

I have managed to get S-OFF and I'm successfully running CyanogenMod 6.1.2 It feels like i've set my phone free, it's much faster and the additional options and tweaks are very much appreciated!
Now it's time for a faster kernel
Thanks has been given to all who helped in the thread

Someones help would be greatly appreciated.
I spent about 8 hours trying to root my phone last night.....the first time I ran the 4-step root, it went flawlessly. After that however, I downloaded Rom Manager and clockwork wouldn't download (repeated error). I then downloaded Titanium Backup and the program said I didn't have root access.
Fast forward 6 hours later and many additional attempts to re-root (each time hanging up at step 4)........I decided to try and see if my phone was rooted already.
I did a search and based on that search I typed cmd in the search bar (vista), then typed adb shell.....hit enter......and got #.
If I understand right, this means that I'm rooted.
So, 1) Am I rooted?
2) If yes, why can't I proceed from here?
3) How do I proceed from here (In noob terms)?
4) Did I screw anything up or do I need to delete some files as a result of trying to re-root over and over?
Assistance would be greatly appreciated, and I'll be sure to do the same once I have this figured out.
Few more questions.
1) If I'm rooted and all, do I need to install a rooted rom before Rom Manager (clockworkmod) and Titanium Backup will work? I was trying to use Rom Manager to perform a backup before I flashed any ROMS.
2) Is there some superuser file that needs to be downloaded and could that be my problem?
Thanks again.
Just a hunch, but your probably running the pre-release software build. You need to flash the latest rooted software version 147
651.1. The thread is in the development forum.

No sure what you mean, but I originally had 147 before attempting root and now I have 1.17.651.1. If I need to flash the software you are referencing could you please provide the link to the forum....I've looked but I'm not entirely sure of what I should be looking for.
I don't know the link but the thread is in the Android Development section and is titled fully rooted stock version 147.651. 1 no adb. Will probably be on page 2nd of the forum. After running the 2 files linked in that thread you'll be all set to run a customer rom.

Ok, found it.
However, I have the file PC36IMG already on my SD card (it's zipped). Should I replace it with the one you're referring to, use it, or just leave it alone?
I've tried everything.
If someone wants to give me a hand getting all of this worked out and fresh flashed, I'll shoot them some $$ via paypal.
I'm almost 100% my phone is rooted, just can't make a backup, upgrade to the rooted 147 stock rom, download the SU, or flash a custom ROM.
First, remove any zip files you downloaded for rooting purposes from your sd card (place them on your computer for safekeeping). Then, power off your phone and power it back on while holding volume down. At the top it'll give you an HBOOT VERSION. Which version do you get?

Hey guys I looked all over for a solution for hours and I didn't see a thread containing my exact problem/solution so I will post it here. Here is my problem:
I flashed TMartin's Gingersense Rom and thought it was flashable back to recovery, but I realized it was a complete system dump after doing so. I have downloaded the new Superuser update to 2.3.6.1 although the phone doesn't detect it. This is what it says: "an error occurred and su was not updated. A zip file (su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip) has been placed on your sd card, please reboot into recovery mode and flash it to update your su binary."
My Evo doesn't think it's rooted even though it has the superuser app installed. I also tried using Rom Manager to reboot into recovery mode but it says this: "you must root your phone for Rom Manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "/system/xbin/su". Use google search on your computer to find instructions to root your phone." I have also tried to turn it off and press "voldown+power" and it goes straight to the rom. I believe I've overwritten the recovery image and I even know where to begin. I had clockwork 2.6 and 2 nandroid back-ups before doing this. Is there something I'm missing? Please help!
same thing happened with me and a couple evo's on my xp pro box.
what i did was, i just started the process over from the beginning...one of them took a couple times to stick.

Well Tmartin had a flashable zip of the gingersense rom. In the thread that got closed, in the OP, there were a few links. One was for a flashable zip, and the others were the system dump, as you noted.
When you boot to the bootloader, does it show you S off, or S on? When you select recovery from the bootloader, what is your result? Do you get a black screen/red triangle? Or does it just hang at the splash or something? If you're S off, you should just be able to flash a PC36IMG of recovery, and then flash a new rom from there. If you're S on, and have no recovery, then you'll need to re root your phone.
How do I even go about doing that?
Oh woops I didn't see you reply k2buckley lol. I can't boot into the bootloader, it goes straight into the rom.

Shut down your device. Simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the power button until your device starts. After a short pause, a few lines of text will scroll across the screen. You will then be in the bootloader menu. At the top, you should see either S-ON or S-OFF.

Just tried it. It doesn't boot into the bootleader, it just goes straight to the rom. I can imagine it has to be S-Off because it has superuser permissions (even though I can't access) it

You can't get to your bootloader? Are you on the Gingerbread Sense rom? If so, go to menu>settings>applications. Uncheck "fastboot". THen shut your phone off, and try to get to the bootloader again. Should work this time.

Yea, I only remember because it happened to me when I tested out that rom, lol. I too am running SalvageMod 1.2.1. It's been my daily for a bit now, just super smooth and stable for me. I was running some of the Salvage Nightlies too, which were good. The nightly 13 I tried had music controls on the lockscreen, which I'm a big fan of. It also came with Tiamat 3.3.7 kernel, which my phone hates. I went back to the stable build for now. I'm also curious to see Myn's next project. That interview that was on Good and Evo revealed that he's working on Warm Gingerbread. I keep hoping for one of those emails from Myn, with a nice link to some beta action!
To The OP:
Glad you got it worked out! Good deal man.

So i have rooted the htc DZ and tried out multiple roms... Till now i used to use the CWR to wipe the data/cache before loading a new rom.. Yesterday i decided to try SuperWipeG2+ without reading much(not trying to understand what it exactly does).
After i flashed it, i by mistake hit the reboot now in CWR and it hung at the boot screen. To fix this i removed the battery and put it back in,since power on was not working. When i did so it went to HBoot and started flashing the 1.34 PC10IMG file present in the sdcard which i did not remove after rooting.
Query:-
1) Should i have removed 1.34 PC10IMG?
2)If i ever face a similar situation like mentioned above will it enter the recovery,if the1.34 PC10IMG file was not present ?(i did try to do away with updating the 1.34 PC10IMG,but always entered the HBoot on every subsequent restart and never allowed me to change the options from flashboot to anything else).
2a)If it does not enter recovery, then what is it to be done?
3)Currently i have stock 1.34 rom which says i do not have root(check this by installing rom manger )! but when i check Boot page, it says S-off and other Hboot etc.
I did run from step 1. to root DZ and it was back to good old rooted condition.
(Did a lot searching and reading but i couldn't answer the above questions- hence the thread also just not comfortable experimenting too much, might end bricking the phone )
Non-rooting query:-
4)Also what is use of app2sd/partition of sd-card!
i mean, as per my understanding this(app2sd) can"only"be used when there is partition in you sd-card which allows apps to be moved to sd-card,but when using MIUI rom i still can move most of the user apps to sd-card..
If these questions has been already asked and replied or even already explained please forgive me for creating this thread and please provide the link.. Would appreciate a lot..
Thanks..
Anyone ... Sorry abt the long post...

I only know no.4
Since Froyo, you dont need this app. You can move it to your sd card under the Application setting. But, not all apps can be moved (such as task manager, pre installed app). You dont need to create partition, just install it and run it.
Anyway, since our DZ has internal memory 1,5 GB, I never moved apps to sd card
Cheers

For the other q's
Yes you should remove the PC10IMG from your sdcard.otherwise you can't get into recovery through bootloader.
(although you could boot to fastboot, and if you have the eng bootloader boot a recovery through terminal/cmd)
Did you run the "./root_psn" step of the rooting guide? If not that might be the error with not perm-root

edit 2: found recovery. hit home key after red android thing. shows Android system recovery<3e>. is this correct? nothing in the options there allow me to backup nandroid.

There are several different ways to go.
The quickest way (might not work and is just a temp fix) is to download, then unzip the zip file to EVO-RECOVERY folder on your computer. Boot the phone into RECOVERY (with the red triangle), then run the recovery-windows.bat file if you're running Windows on your computer and see does that do anything. Whether or not it works would tell me exactly how the phone was rooted.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38127313/EVO-recovery.zip
The phone is s-on, you're going to need to run unrevoked to gain s-off so you can flash a recovery. You can't flash any unofficial zips in hboot with s-on. Search for unrevoked and your hboot version to find the correct version of unrevoked to unlock the bootloader(hboot).

Good point. I rooted and S-off via toast right after launch. I guess if someone only did his first step it would look like that. Good point. Speaking of toast, I just threw up quotes of his latest post all over general subforum in all the threads where people are trying to decide if they want nexus or Evo LTE.
They locked the one X down like no tomorrow. Team win and toast can't get recovery to access USB for mount while in recovery. Making me lean nexus.

Did you ever try the EVO-RECOVERY download. No one said anything about pressing volume up and the power button. When you see the red triangle, do not do anything except run the recovery-windows.bat file on your computer (after extracting the files to the EVO-RECOVERY folder) to see if a recovery menu appears. I forgot to mention that the phone must be connected to the computer.
If that does not work, then you might want to go to the unrevoked site and follow their root instructions.

Perfect, the quickest way.
Download the attached files and place them on the root of your SD card.
Flash the unrevoked-forever from the temporary recovery menu that I gave you. That will turn the phone S-OFF.
Then run the PC36IMG file through the bootloader (power off the phone, then volume down +power buttons) and accept the update. That will give you the latest Amon permanent recovery. I also added the superuser.zip file in case you need to flash it (especially on stock ROM if you need it for superuser permissions).
Thank you Everyone

No problem. I just tried to give you a work around to Toast Method 2 (I see the phone was rooted with Toast Method 1 only) which would also S-OFF the phone, but is more complicated.
You could have also used unrevoked, but you probably would needed to unroot first, then install the Hboot drivers, then run unrevoked (not to mention downloading all of those things) which would have taken some time.
This thread is full of win. Awesome job shortydogg. Unbelievable you still had those old files. Just nice to see how it worked out
