update to new Rom made. - Acer Iconia Tab A100

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24791768#post24791768
just wondering how I go about updating to new rom that just came out for a100 by these guys.
tried update.zip method but did not work. got an android with a exclamation mark while trying to flash.
edit: also how do i tell what recovery I have?
i followed these steps
- Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531646
- Unlock the bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557445
- Install CWM:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558595

just do a full wipe and flash through cwm.
Personally, I don't like it. The gains aren't worth what you sacrifice

what do you lose?

not much aside from the acer ring, whenever you rotate you get a black flash. it's a bit irritating and you don't get much as it is incomplete

thanks and got it flashed on there now!
EDIT: Obviously I am an Idiot.... I flashed this recovery and now I am not sure how to get to the recovery to make a nandroid backup and whatnot. i tried t backup using ROM manager and got the android with exclamation on boot. and I also tried to bring up recovery by holding the volume up while booting and all it did was try to update and fail.
I just need a little bit more detail in getting this and once I get this squared away I swear I will be good to go for now on. Also I appreciate your alls patience and helpfulness!
edit 2: found recovery. hit home key after red android thing. shows Android system recovery<3e>. is this correct? nothing in the options there allow me to backup nandroid.

I don't wanna sound like a noob here, I know how to use CWR, but in reference to fastboot, thats not the fastboot that makes the phone boot faster. But fastboot used in adb for back ups right?? Not asking for a description i just went through the entire life of my dinc 1 and thought I knew everything and never heard of fastboot. Wanna make sure I understand and read up on the right thing...

HELP!!
I tried to flash the overclocked kernel and now Im stuck in a bootloop and can't load recovery or be recognized in fastboot usb. It seems like I may have bricked my phone any suggestions. PLEASE HELP
update - I fixed it lol almost thought my dinc 2 was a brick
I may be in the same situation and would like to know how you solved your problem.
I rooted successfully and was running the Gingersense rom with the stock kernel. I wanted to OC a kernel so I downloaded one that I think was intended to run with MIUI. I made a backup so I figured if the kernel didn't work I could always go back.
After installing the new kernel I went into a boot loop. I pulled the battery, got into recovery and tried to restore a backup, but now I freeze on the HTC screen. I've tried three different backups and none of them work -- all freeze on the HTC screen.
I am becoming desperate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried wiping everything (including /system under "mounts and storage") before restoring the backup? Or tried flashing a different rom? Probably happened because the kernels for AOSP roms and sense roms aren't interchangeable. I would think that restoring a backup would rewrite the boot partition though, which should fix it..
I wiped everything (did data wipe/factory resets as well as wiping everything individually, several times) and could never get any of my backups to work.
I finally copied CM7.1 beta onto the SD card and flashed that (after first having to scrounge to find a card reader and computer that would read an SDHC card) and that worked.
I tried restoring one of my previous backups over CM7.1 (with and without wiping) and went back to freezing on the HTC screen again on each one of them. Don't understand that, since everything was working fine when those backups were made.
Anyway, now I'm using CM7.1 and have a working phone again.
Thanks for your work on this. Much appreciated for helping to realize my dream of a fully-rooted Inc2.
/bow
Ihave the same issues with backup not restoring and getting the white screen. Might need a new SD card.

[HOW-TO] CMW on LTE Version through Rom Manager

If you have any questions, concerns or problems, please post in the CDMA post because I will no longer be checking here.
theboo7 said:
This is a guide on how to get ClockWorkMod onto your LTE Galaxy Nexus through Rom Manager
Go to market, search "Clockworkmod"
Install Rom Manager*
Open up Rom Manager and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
A pop-up will come up called "Confirm Phone Model," of course choose "Google Galaxy Nexus CDMA"
Now let it install etc, then with a File Manager** with SU access, Go to system, click "Mount R/W"(if using Root Explorer) and then scroll down until you see "recovery-from-boot.p" and rename it to "recovery-from-boot.p.bak"
Close out off your File Manager and go to Rom Manager and select "Reboot into Recovery"
There you go
You should be able to boot into CWM
* Free version works
**I used Root Explorer

Could be because you are on a custom ROM. I am on Android Revolution HD and I don't see it at all as well. I also can directly boot from ROM Manager directly into CWM. I never touched this file at all and I never looked for it.

Yeah it's a known bug, that's hopefully getting worked on.
Thank you for this! Now one question if I didn't do this and the stock recovery booted what would be the steps too get this recovery installed?

Then you would follow the steps in the OP
What are the benefits to doing this final part. Is it necessary? Some say they didn't do this? Now on the Thunderbolt I didn't have to have rom manager installed and I could still boot into recovery. Is this the same? If I rename that file (which is in my system directory) will I be able to boot into cwm at any point?
Thanks I have done everything with the exception to this. Wondering if its necessary?
Edit: I guess I should have waited for a response because I went ahead and followed the steps in the OP and it came up with an android with a red triangle. Pulled that battery and booted up ok. Any info I need to be aware of? I wasn't able to boot into recovery from rom manager at first. I can now boot into recovery after reflashing CWM recovery but cannot do anything once I am in it?

Flashing through ROM Manager is just a simpler way to get CWM. And I'm not sure why you would have gotten the red triangle, unless you didn't rename/delete the file in system. And I haven't heard anyone say the couldn't do anything in recovery, so I'm not sure what the problem is there.
When I try and change the file name it says insufficient permissions??
I have root...
Cwm doesn't stick though. I always have to boot reflash recovery and then boot into recovery through from manager..
Any suggestion?

Your file manager doesn't have root privileges, so until you rename/delete the file you won't be able to reboot into CWM

This. I was using astro but changed to root explorer and changed file name. Turned phone off and went into fast boot and then recovery and it worked.
To be clear, I was able to go into recovery before. I would have to open from manager, reflash cwm and boot into recovery.
I was just unable to power phone off and boot into recovery manually. Now I can.

Thanks for the reply. I did rename it the file to .bak following the script to the t! I don't know what happened either. Since then I deleted the file entirely this time and reflashed the cwm seems to work a little better than before an now I can do things in cwm recovery. Hope nothing else goes crazy.

Yeah, that file can cause problems with CWM on LTE, although it's a quick fix, I'm sure it's being worked on for future editions. And since you've been able to flash things, when you use the volume keys to high light options, does it skip one or two every now and then? That's only problem I seem to be having.

Take your sd card out and put it in a micro SD to SD adapter if your computer has a SD slot. B. Use another phone and put your SD card in that. C. Rule of thumb always make backup and if you did just go to restore and restore your saved ROM. D. Use Odin and restore that way YouTube a Qbking video about flashing threw Odin.

What is the version of CWM you are using?
Have you tried flashing a new or different recovery, like TWRP maybe?
What is the exact process you are using when the installation fails?
Go here and download TWRP 2.4.4.0 & CWM Touch 6.0.2.8 - place them on your external sd card via the above described method/s then try flashing the CWM recovery and then rebooting to recovery. Now try flashing a Stock ROM (make sure you're checking the MD5 to verify a good download) if that doesn't work then try the TWRP recovery, etc...

Try holding Volume Down, home, and the Power buttons. This will get you into download mode. Then Odin a stock TAR file using a method displayed in QBKing77's videos. Search around, you'll find something. If you're still unable to find anything after a while, give me about an hour and I'll help. Good luck!

Need Stock Rom

I had a backup of stock before root but when i tried to back up to it today it gave me a md5 mismatch so i couldnt back up to it. From what I seen in beaups thread that I need to be on a stock rom and stock kernal for his s-off method to work. Is there a stock rom that I could flash to use the s-off method?
I'd like this answered as well. I think andy's stock rom near the bottom of the page works, but I haven't had a confirmation yet. Also wondering if odex versus deodexed versions matter.
Same boat im in just waiting for somebody to say which one we can use when we are already rooted and unlocked. I dont know how my md5's mismatched on my stock before root backup but I can't go back to it so Im kinda stuck here until we get a answer.

EDIT: Downloading the 1.1 download not the newest. Under old downloads. I would think the more stock the better.

Just tried v1.0a..... No dice.
I'd test 1.1 but for some reason it won't let me copy the zip over to my phone... Keeps saying the device has stopped working or has been disconnected. Tried many different USB ports.... Going to have to bluetooth it which is going to take even more time...

Actually I'm having more problems with this than I did trying it on 1.0a and NOS...
I'm trying to find my nandroid of stock rooted but I think it was on a drive that failed.
Linux boot, next???

Yea i got made fun of when using that lol...
SUPER MEGA ULTIMATE DISCLAIMER: IIRC = IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF THIS DOESN'T WORK/SCREWS UP YOUR DEVICE/BRICKS/ETC. YOU ARE WARNED. THIS WORKED FOR ME IN THE PAST WITH MY GALAXY NEXUS BACKUPS USING CWMTOUCH 6.0.3.6 AND 6.0.4.3.
YOU ARE WARNED.
I HAVE NEVER USED TWRP FOR BACKUPS. IT IS A MERE SUGGESTION THAT THIS METHOD WILL WORK WITH SIMILAR RESULTS. I HAVE NEVER BROWSED A BACKUP FOR TWRP. ANY ATTEMPT YOU MAKE USING A TWRP BACKUP IS OF YOUR OWN COGNIZANCE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
YOU ARE WARNED.
YOU ARE WARNED.
IIRC: If you have an md5 mismatch while trying to restore in a recovery, try this process:
IF YOU HAVE A BACKUP I HIGHLY SUGGEST STORING THE BACKUP FILE ON YOUR DESKTOP JUST IN CASE!!!!
Boot into whatever ROM you're on ATM.
Browse to your ClockworkMod (or TWRP backup must have an accessible folder for it's backups) using a Root file explorer, which I happen to use "Root Explorer" and open the backup file you just made.
Inside of that will be a nandroid.md5.
Delete that file and reboot into recovery, and try restoring again.

This method did work for me several times on several backups, but root and S-Off being so new, I cannot attest that it works for the One. YOU ARE WARNED**!!

The sojo app called my issues dumb lol. It's hard to get frustrated when humor is involved with the errors.

I just tried looking for where the nandroid file was. I went to my sdcard on root explorer then to clockworkmod and didn't find any of my backups there. Is there another spot that i need to look in to do that?

If using CWM, they will be under the /data/clockworkmod/backup directory, not /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.
I tried the odex stock rom, but it won't flash... Anybody have this issue?

Ok i found it it was under /data/media/clockworkmod/backup but i dont see any files inside of that that are a md5 file im going to look in the data.ext4.tar file and the system.ext4.tar.a. Does any of those ring a bell? i see the boot.img, data.ext4.tar.a, recovery.img, system.ext4.tar.a, and system.ext4.tar.b. Thats all the files inside the backup i made before i rooted.
