[Q] ROM Help... Barebone System - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I'm new here. YAY, first post.
Can someone please tell me real quick what is a good bare bone system for the HTC Desire? I've had it for more or less two months now, it's already rooted and running villianrom at the moment. But I want something so barebone it should just about dial and send and receive message. Obviously the required stuff should also be there, but I want no extra apps. I'll add all of the apps as I need them.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
DarkRanger

If you want totally nude/stock/whatever, then I would suggest this by teppic74
I honestly haven't tried it before, but if it gives what it advertises, that would be probably what you want
There would probably be more out there if you search.
Your next alternative would be to cook a rom yourself
Welcome btw

Try the aosp roms.
That's cyanogenmod, defrost and oxygen.

[Q]Stock Roms vs Custom ones

Hello folx..
Im using Desire HD for a while and wanted to ask you:
What is the diffrence between stock rom and custom roms ? What do i get if i put custom rom on my desire hd ? I have to root it i know that. But is it worth to put custom rom?
Thanks alot in advance for responses..
as i can see in your signature, why have you modde your HD2? the same reason to not be controlled by anyone to what you do with something that you own, to be free of bloatware that the companys want sell you. that is why i keep mine as plain as possible.

Yes, i modded my HD2, because it has Wm stock on it, and i wanted android.. But i still cant see right bemefits of custom android roms for DHD.. Maybe im not reading much...
Briefly - Most custom ROMs are better optimized for speed, smoothness, battery life, user customization, extra settings etc. Not only that but most bugs are fixed before HTC would ever get round to it.
Do it, you wont look back
But , if i root my phone, i loose warranty ? Is there any chance i could "unroot" my phone ( revert to process of rooting, so i can keep my warranty for any case..) ?
If it's anything like the Hero (which I'm sure it is), then flashing an official HTC RUU ROM will remove root.
Best to check in the DHD development section though, there's a FAQ there
EDIT: As always, it's best to do as much of your own research and reading as you can before trying anything new, but here's a link to a thread about removing root etc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9985360#post9985360

Recommend a ROM

Hi,
Preferably, I'm looking for a HTC Desire HD ROM or something that has the new HTC Sense on it with APP2SD functionality, It must be Clean Stock (meaning no customization) and must be Stable to use with no or little lag. The Android version should be 2.2 or above and OTA update be operational (not required).
I have stumbled upon some ROMS, that match my specifications, however I want to know your experience with it. Common Bugs, how is it for everyday use? blah blah etc...
- RCMixHD v0.15 1
- DHD Rom Port by baadnwz v1.7c
- ۵.AuraxTSense v8.2 HTC Sense 2.2
- ۵.ReflexTSenseHD v1.5.1 DHD port
- RCS Touch v06
I want to be able to flash a new rom without any fuss, but I do not believe this likely to happen.
Here are my device specs:
Code:
BRAVO PV1 SHIP-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-01d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
-Android 2.2
-T-MOBILE UK - Branded
-Not-Rooted
-4GB Micro SD Card (GoldCard)
Before any tells me to do my research and check the entire forums and says it all depends on your desire, well the whole point of the thread is to give me guidance on what to do next and then summarize your points and experience.
If any more information is require, please tell me so.
Thank you.
Little Bump. No one?
Root
Flash Baadnewz 1.7c
EOD
root read , read again , check the threads of the roms u want to try , download rom , instal and if you like keep it if not repeat from (Check)
regards
baadnewz has to be the quickest most lag free hd rom
Forget hd if you want zero lag just stick to standard Sense or aosp gingerbread.
I've tried Alex V HD which is very good but not zero lag and heard lots of good news about baadnewz.

its got a memory leak and is sluggish after time
First of all - root it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044).
Second - S-Off (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805811).
Need help? Search xda and google, google, google!
Then - READ ALOT about the different roms, apps/data2sd, recovery images etc etc and choose the one you like most. Search for youtube videos of the roms you like.
Pay attention - some roms work only with specific radio versions. Most roms require (or at least suggest) performing a full phone wipe (including davlik cache), so don't forget to backup EVERYTHING before you start (including contacts, sms, mms). AND NEVER EVER REBOOT / DISCONNECT CABLE WHEN FLASHING!

I was leaning towards this rom, good job you told me this.
Also, please guys, although I appreciate your guidance I am not new to flashing etc and do not want instructions on 'how to root, flash, S-OFF and S-ON'. If you read my question, all I want is your opinions/views on what ROM is good enough to meet my specifications as well as your experiences. I do not want to keep flashing my phone, that's another reason why this thread was created. And Please no 'SEARCH GOOGLE, XDA FORUMS', and choose what you like. I will research the ROM that I have narrowed down, helped suggested by you guys and then Check if it's good to go. I know some of you will find me arrogant, which is not the case.
Keep your suggestions coming in...
Thank you.
youve picked the roms you want to try , why dont you try them and find out for yourself.
and no i dont find you arrogant more lazy
I'd recommend Baadnwz. I found it to be one of the quickest!

Most of you guys are suggesting 'badnewz', tell me your experiences with it.
...Or shall I just flash a unbranded Stock ROM and Root and Partition the SD?
Thanks
EDIT: What do you guys think of this ROM 'Ginger Villain 0.8?
I was using gingervillian 0.8 for awhile and found it to be very good, however as only the nexus s is running gingerbread officially, I found there are some apps that I need that won't work.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Now I'm thinking of flashing to the standard HTC Stock ROM and ROOT+APP2SD...
I'd recommend teppic's stock ROM + updates. Why ? Because the author updates it regularely and has offered lots of optional addons, meaning the ROM is not a "try to please all so im stuffed with all imaginable crap" one.

Guide to GB ROMS?

Hello all,
I like many others, I have installed the new GB ROM from the RUU supplied by HTC and it is "OK". However, i would like something else.
I have seen many guide to install ROMS and it seems more or less clear.
My problem, and maybe the problem for other noobs if the fact that there are so many ROMs out there. It is difficult to know which one to take.
For example, I am looking for plain old stock android 2.3 for the desire. No sense, no extra HTC apps. Just what google would have on the nexus 1. But, I cant figure out which ROM fits that.
Any ideas?
What would be great is sticky which lists the ROMs and their main features for all us noobs. Unless there is one already and I didnt see it
Get Oxygen Rom mate its nice and basic , if u want to go too basic get DevNull
But for starters i think u shud go with oxygen
Pm me if u want to discuss any other details

Well, if you installed official Gingerbread 3.14.405.1 RUU, you can't get root (yet). No root means that you can't install custom rom.

watch the video tutorial too - but it sounds like you want an AOSP rom
Yup, you definitely wanna try Oxygen + it was recently updated to Android 2.3.5.
It's sense free, all bloatware removed, very fast & minimalistic.
http://forum.oxygen.im/viewtopic.php?id=149 (it wasn't updated on XDA yet, but you can download it from there)
CyanogenMod7 will also fit you.
Should have read into what you were doing before you updated. You can't root now, which means no custom ROMs for you. HTC updated HBOOT so no more rooting for the time being. You're stuck with it till someone cracks it. Unlucky dude.
My recommendation:
Sense (2.1+3.0) : InsertCoin 1.0.9
AOSP: Oxygen
no MIUI from me...sorry..
Thanks for all the replies. I am pretty sure it is only a matter of days or weeks at most until I can root. I recall the same situation last update.
It sounds like oxygen is the way to go. Once the root is available I will give it a shot. Thanks.

[Q] Current roms

Hi there i want a new rom, but i also want to use titanium backup ive tried a few new roms but tittanium backup doesnt show on them
cheers in advance
did you install it?
no but i can see the files are still there as i have es file explorer and that transfers over when i put a new rom on
Its an app on the market. Some roms choose to add it to the rom, some dont. So its not there because you havemt installed it from the market.
if that was the problem im gonna punch myself in the face for being so stupid!
are there any new roms out for the desire or are developers just doing them for the newer phones?
haha.
Yeah there are always new roms. The desire was voted best phone 2010. Many people still use it. Some have said they may go sim free instead of upgrading. I may do this too. I dont want to let go. The desire has a lot of life in it yet.
Check here for roms:

trying gingervillan 2.8 and it tb was there so gonna see what its like, thanks for the help!

Return to stock ROM

Hello all;
I would like to return to a stock ROM. I don't want to un-root, I just want HTC Sense back. Where can I get a stock ROM or what Sense ROM would you recommend?
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
There are a bunch of Sense roms in the dev section. Pretty much anything from Sense 2.1 to 3.5 Take a look and read the user responses
I'm in the same boat as the OP.
Please understand xda vets - someone rooting for the first time is very confused by all these acronyms, version numbers, etc. It's very overwhelming. I looked at the Inc2 dev section and it's like reading Sanskrit. I tried searching but people must use different terminology because my results weren't relevant to my question.
I just received a new Inc2 and all I want is a basic Sense rom that removes all of Verizon's bloatware. The phone has 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1. I'm really just looking for a stable rom. Just want to keep it simple for now.
Can someone recommend one?
I'd like to know as well. With my Droid X I could just SPF with RSD Lite and go back to an official original ROM, unrooted.
I haven't found any info on how to do this with my Incredible 2.
I doubt I would ever want to un-root and go back, but if for some reason I need to return the phone or trade it in, it would be nice to be able to go back to the phone's stock rom, un-rooted.
try Skyraider Zeus is very stable everything works,
Try this

Stock minus bloat.
