I was given my stepsister's myTouch 3g slide after she left T-Mobile. I figured I would jump on Simple Mobile and save some cash with my new free phone, but the honeymoon quickly ended when I trying to make phone calls caused the phone to crash and reboot itself. I tried all the standard resets, but still the problem persisted. Not only that, but trying to pair the bluetooth caused the same problem.
So I figured, what the heck, might as well root the phone and see what putting a newer android will do. Incidentally, surfing the web and using any internet function is just fine.
Now, post root and post Cyanogen 6.1.1 install, the phone no longer crashes, but it doesn't always make or receive calls either. If I try to call someone, it just says "Dialing..."and nothing happens. If I call the phone, it doesn't ring, but doesn't go straight to voicemail either. Also, text messaging is not operational when this happens.
If I reboot the phone a few times, I can get calling to work again and I can be on a call with no problems. Then I hang up, try to dial again.... <silence>.
I updated the radio to the latest I could find 7.09.... didn't help. It seems like there's a hardware issue here. I did find one or two other people with this problem and after returning several phones, they were able to get back in business.
Also further leading me to believe that it's something with the radio hardware is that when calling fails, I can't go into airplane mode (it won't disable the radio) and I can't search networks ("error while searching networks").
Unfortunately, now that I'm not with T-Mobile, I guess I can't ask for a repair. Any suggestions?

So you don't have a tmobile plan? What's simple mobile? Anyway my first suggestion is to get a new sim card. Faulty sim cards can cause things like this.

Did you try what I suggested to the last guy and get a new sim card? And changing your APN's will only screw up your internet access and MMS/SMS functionality, it wouldn't affect phone calls.
Not Yet
I have not yet got a new sim card. I guess i'll update when I do that. It's for a friend of mines. Also apparently there are a lot of people having this issue (on phandroid, android forums, htc forums, and tmobile forums)..
I'll try cleaning it for now since it's all I can do tonight.
Thanks for your help. Speak soon.

Recurring 8525 problem since upgrading to WM6 ROM (AT&T version). The phone will freeze completely (clock doesn't advance, screen and buttons and keyboard don't accept input, display freezes at on or off). When restarted by soft reset, the phone will frequently come back up with no GSM. When that happens, sometimes if I remove the battery and leave the phone off for a few hours then GSM will come back and will work for a while and then lock up again.
When it comes back with GSM service all of the network logon info for GPRS, my Wi-Fi networks with their auth info is gone.
Also email accounts are gone from the account picker and can't be re-created with the same names even though they have completely disappeared. I assume the settings are still in the registry but accounts just aren't showing. One account still shows on the Today screen, but isn't in the account picker.
A hard reset "fixes" things for a while. I've experimented with only installing a few of the most necessary 3rd party apps, without finding any "smoking gun" program that's causing problems. I've also re-seated the SIM card multiple times. I'm thinking it might be a hardware problem.
Today I flashed the radio to 1.54 and it has worked for a couple of hours without needing to be reset.
I'd be interested to hear what possible diagnostic paths I should look at before I call AT&T and begin the rigmarole required by tech support. Anyone with a very similar situation?
Thanks in advance.
I'm having the same problem. I was thinking of going to AT&T to get a new SIM, thinking that was the problem. Any solution yet?

I started having the same problem with mine last week.
Sometimes it locks up, sometimes it gets stuck at the windows logo durring boot, always displays no gsm rom on boot.
Take a look at the how to unbrick thread. no gsm rom msg is one of the types of brick.
I installed hard spl ( already had it actually ). Flashed os, but it didn't help. Flashed GSM and no gsm msg went away. The phone is still acting strangely.
remember, just because the rom came from your carrier DOESNT mean that it doesnt have problems. Alot of people seem to have problems with upgraded rom versions from their carrier and end up either downgrading to previous rom or flashing cooked roms. try the previous rom or another cooked rom and see if that fixes the problem before blaming the hardware. It will save you a major headache trying to troubleshoot something that is working perfectly....
Please remember to do a bit of reading and hard spl your device before going off and bricking your Hermes. 10 minutes of reading might prevent hours, days or weeks of hair pulling, nail biting insanity to find the answer. Cheers.
hello people,
I have my SVP M3100, original from orange spain - but CID unlock to work with portuguese carrier, now I live and work in Hereford UK, and I use a sim from Three and other from Lebara the three sim is to have net on my pc and the lebara sim is to make low cost international call, and i switch many times the sim's to make calls and to have internet, now i have the same problem that you have, i try to upload the HTC original rom that have IPL. BOOTLOADER, SPLASH SCREENS EXTROM GSM, but lock at 12% I try upload ongly radio rom and the same a think that somekind of hardware problem caused by to many sims switch, if any body have one solution please tell me

Same thing happened to me. Tried to reflash original ATT ROM , Radio Only, OS only. Gonna send it for the repair. Phone is not under warranty anymore hope that the price of repair will be less than price of new phone.
BTW, is there any way to remove Hard SPL from the phone?
how much was the price of repair?
Try changing you radio to a new one. i have had the same problems in the past with different radio roms and rom versions. so i am using radio 1.54.30.10 with pdavet roms and have had no isuue.

I've got exact the same symtoms. No GSM, network and auth settings gone, opera registration lost etc. It started a few days a go, in the beginning I had a working GSM most of the time, but it became less and less and now it doesn't have service at all anymore.
Currently device information shows:
ROM version: K's Rom v1.21
ROM date: 10/03/07
Radio version: NONE
Protocol version: NONE
Model No.: HERM300
IMEI: <empty>
Does anyone know a permanent solution?
I have the SAME PROBLEM!
I was about to get radio to work 3 days ago, and now the radio says none.
it's like the radio removed itself.
ok this doesn't make sense, I used the hima rom to remove the radio.
and now the radio is back! wtf?
Hm I tried everything but I can't seem to reflash the radio. About every version I try hangs at 0%. Sometimes when I flash from SD card it hangs at arount 10%.
Tried different SPL versions as well
Damn you radio!!!
BTW, I have no idea what they did to my phone there, but after returning from the AT&T Repair center the Call timer was zeroed and Device ID is now different from what it was before in Skyscape software
Any solutions yet? Im having the same issues.
The reason why Active Sync restarts
For many people the Workaround "not a hack or registry at all" does not work is because of a event based notification that runs the program anytime the time changes. Since your phone updates from the cell tower, it updates the time alot even if by mere seconds well this update runs activesync. Get yourself MemMaid
run it in advanced mode then Jump to Databases then select Notification Queue you will see a list of 3 types of Queues; Time Based, Classic Time Based, and Event based. Go to the event based queue, you should see at the end of this list 3 listing for repllog.exe with the active sync icon. Click on them individualy and read what shows up in the window below put a check mark next to the listing that describes the event as "apprunaftertimechange" it is normaly the last one on list
Also make sure there is no repllog.exe listed in any other queue for a time based event. Leave the other instances of repllog.exe since you still want your device to sync when its connected to the computer. Once you select all events that desribe running repllog.exe after a time change or at a certian time and date press the delete button.
This worked for me on my 8125 and the tilt and if i would of figured this out before i had ATT replace my 8525 i probably would of not got the tilt but lol they gave me tilt free cause all the problems i had with 8525.
let me know if this works for you guys that still see activesync running after the fake server WORKAROUND.
This should work
memmaid is not free but i think its free to try and if all you do with it is fix this problem then great or find a way to register it cause it does help has cool tricks and tweaks
Wow, still no real fixes for this problem, bummer
running memmaid work
running memmaid works and fixes the random start of activesync and once the random start of activesync is fixed the device will not lock up because of activesync this not to say if some other program you may have installed locking you up as well
SYMPTOM: can't see any mobile networks
BACKGROUND: I've been using htc one x for a month now. Initially on three, but their signal was unusable at home, so sim-unlocked and switched a couple of weeks ago to giffgaff ( a virtual network on top of the UK o2 network).
All has been fine, until today. I sent a few texts & calls in the morning, and mobile data was working. Since then, I can't see any mobile network.
wifi is fine.
Search Networks pops up "Error while searching for networks" and finds none.
No software changes of any sort since last successful call. No changes at all today, at least until I tried to diagnose the problem.
Running stock rom, with the WW update of a couple of weeks ago (1.28.771.9.CL56522 release-keys) -- neither S-OFF nor unlocked bootloader.
Nothing obvious to me in the normal or radio logcat logs.
The only thing I did after the last successful call was to run sensorly to try and map a trip. I've used this before without any problems. It got no connection but I thought nothing of that. I've since uninstalled it just in case it could somehow be interfering with the radio.
THINGS I'VE TRIED:
No, the airplane mode isn't on, and mobile is. I've toggled airplane from settings and power switch, many times
recreated the APN
checked other phones - yes there are a number of networks visible
tried the original o2 sim - same problem
safe mode
cold boot
reboot, reboot, reboot
obviously I haven't pulled the battery...
turned off wifi, in case it was somehow interfering
HTC diagnostic tool
factory reset
confirmed imei is not blocked
Any ideas? Bearing in mind that I'm looking for something which can happen spontaneously.
Interestingly, while writing this I've just noticed that Baseband version shows as Unknown. That worries me - is it possible that my radio partition has spontaneously corrupted itself?
I did speak to 02 support - they said to take it into a shop for warranty repair. I don't want to try a custom ROM just yet -- not when I might have to use the warranty. But is there any way to force it to reinstall the stock rom (preferably not involving windows)?
I have the same problem as well and flashing custom roms did not solve it for me. But for me even the IMEI number is shown as UNKNOWN...I haven't done anything special to get this issue, one day when I woke up the phone could not connect to any network.
I have tried a lot of different methods but with no success. I don't think we can do anything about the baseband without S-OFF.
If a hard reset fails, then it's time to think about returning the unit. Either get a refund or get it replaced.
This may be irrelevant; but I've had this happen to me on my GNexus. I solved it by going back to stock and it just fixed itself overnight.....
my HTC One X did the same after about 2 weeks. Gave it back to supplier, waiting my replacement.
Even tested with a different SIM card, did a hard reset. Problem stayed the same.
Im curious did any of you find a resolution to this? it happened to me a while ago but yet to fing a solution. HTC refuse to fix under warranty because it is unlocked.. i am currently waiting for the next official update to see if that fixes anything but the way things are looking that could be a while..

It sounds like a fault, probably the radio chip has just stopped working, no software is going to repair that. If it was a software problem, there would be hundreds or thousands of people all having the same issue.

Hi all,
have been having major trouble with my HTC desire HD, a while back it started launching Google Navigation of its own accord and now does it so frequently my phone is as good as a paperweight,
It normally pops up and starts by saying I need to go to settings to turn on my GPS to allow Google Navigation to work, thing is I dont want it working, I didnt open it
I tried leaving on the GPS to see if it would leave me alone then, but it doesnt it keeps launching telling me to buy a license to use Google Navigation
I saw a thread online about deleting the maps and data that Google Navigation uses from the phone when connected to computer via usb, tried that, it still launches itself, instead telling me I need to download the maps that I just deleted. Have since let it redownload the maps, left GPS on, said yes to everything it asked and it still wont leave me alone.
Whenever it launches it shuts down whatever I was doing which is infuriating, and now does it every 30 seconds or so, even when the phone is locked it lights up showing the lock screen because that app has started itself again
I will do anything to be able to delete this app and get my phone back
Do I need to root it? Will that let me get rid of this #bleeping bleeper#? I have never rooted a phone and am not sure about how to do it or whether I need to downgrade my software, or how to do that. Hence the plea
I have read the thread here:

Rooting Your HTC Desire HD is the best thing EVER!!! I did myself 2 months ago and flashed the Xtreme Surprise ROM and I have to say absolutly SMOOTH ! I cannot believe the battery now keeps me the whole day if I am on the internet all day. I am very pleased with it and in rooting you can block that with Ez Task Manager from keeping starting up. Can I help you out to root your device if you want.
if your phone is having problems, i wouldnt suggest rooting it. Do a factory reset on it and wipe it and see if you can correct the problems before possibly making it worse. my 2 cents
Yes!!! awesome, thanks for the offer of help, PM'd

Hey guys it's been a while and I have long since jumped the smartphone boat due to economic reasons but I still held onto my first generation droid incredible to use as an MP3 player in my car & as a camera since it does take pretty decent pictures for a cell phone. At least it's cheaper than buying a brand new ipod touch for sure.
This morning I remembered after hooking it up to my computer that I could turn off the Verizon CD image mount through one of the hidden menus accessed by the dial pad but I couldn't remember which one it was at the time so I tired at first the ##778 and flipped through the sections to find what I was looking for and then things got interesting.
Under my security section I found that the HDR AN AUTH Password and PPP PASSWORD had been set to something that looks like leet speak to me along with some random symbols "UBINuHDX:n'!" along with a few extra characters that I cannot reproduce on my computer at this time. In my mind I read this as "u been hacked" which doesn't make any sense as the phone is on stock firmware with security turned on and it's on the latest firmware.
Here are the detailed software specs for my phone.
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband: 2.15.10.07.07
Build number: 4.08.605.2 CL185897 release-keys
Has been rooted in the past?: Yes with unrevoked & S-OFF
Current status: Unrooted with stock firmware and S-ON
The phone has been on stock firmware with S-ON for 7 months now and I just now found this.
Has anyone else notice this recently or has any clue as to what happened and what I need to do to fix the phone so that its not hacked like this? I know I can factory reset but how will I get past the activation screen to continue using it as an MP3 player for my car?
Hope someone can help me but for now I'm isolating the phone off my wireless and changing all my passwords once more since this thing has been directly connected to my computer several times and who knows how long this has been like this.
This is normal. The password is encrypted, making it look like weird characters. Only verizon has the key to decrypt it, and was issued by verizion ota. The only people who have access to changing this info is verizion, and anyone who physicly has access to the phone.
So I did some reading and watching of youtube videos on how to get an EVO 4G to work on Boost and I went ahead and decided to go ahead and do a phone for myself and my uncle. I got everything working (voice, data, and messaging) and I'm 99% sure that all of the settings are right, but for some reason I keep getting a "random" error 16 switch 394. I've checked over my settings on both phones over 10 times. I've matched up what was on the donor phones with what are on the EVOs multiple times in the software programs that I used to program the phones (dunno if I can say the names of the programs here or not, in my search there were many forums who had very strict rules about these kinds of things). I'm at a complete loss which is why I registered and decided to post. Hopefully I posted in the correct section...
I'll try to give you all as much information as possible. The Error 16 Switch 394 error comes up normally after I unlock the phone and make a call, HOWEVER if I hang up and try to make a call right after that, it'll go through just fine. Additionally, the phone doesn't ring more than 1-3 times. It seems like the signal is getting cut off, but is so quick that it isn't displaying it on the signal strength indicator. Also, texts come in VERY late sometimes. I had a text come in 5 hours late last night...
I updated PRL, profile, firmware; pretty much anything you can update, I did. Nothing is helping. I called Sprint and had them walk me through turning off the phone, taking the battery out, they send something to the phone, and I turn it back on. Obviously that didn't help the issue either. They then tell me that all I can do from there on out is to take the phone in...which I...obviously can't do. I've also tried ##spc# and putting both fields to 0000001234 so that when I restart the phone OTA will start. Yes, OTA starts and goes through, PRL starts and completes, and firmware update starts and completes. Still, nothing to do with fixing my problem.
The model number of my phone is PC36100
The Android version is Gingerbread 2.3.5
The baseband version is 2.15.0.12.19
The kernel version is 2.5.35.10-g94d0005, under that it says [email protected] #1, and under that it says Mon Mar 12 19:29:30 CST 2012

Well next time you might want to place your question in Q & A where it belongs. But moving on, check out THIS THREAD. I think where you may have gone wrong is calling Sprint to help you. You may want to contact Boost Mobile instead.

I apologize. Hopefully a mod/admin can move this for me. I've checked out all of the EVO 4G/EVO3D guides on here. I've checked my settings for everything multiple times and I can't see an error anywhere. I'm not too sure if I even have the option to talk to boost. If I make a call and let it go past the error code 16, switch 394 message; it forwards me to a Sprint technician who knows that I'm on the Boost network using a (ahem) "Prevail".
All good. The fact that Sprint can tell your on the Boost Network is good. Try calling Boost Mobile from a different device, and have them walk you through device activation.

I'm an idiot. I went through it in my head and although I had the donor phones in airplane mode while flashing, I didn't have the HTC phones in airplane mode (hence Sprint was able to see everything I was doing while programming...). God...I feel so dumb. No wonder why my account was probably flagged. After turning on airplane mode, reprogramming everything, and letting the call go through after error 16 to speak to a rep to have them do the CHLS refresh, everything works. 3G is kinda slow though. I'll figure it out. Just thanking GOD that the ******* error 16 is gone! Woohoo! Hopefully this will help someone else so that they don't need to spend hours on end trying to figure out a problem that shouldn't have existed in the first place.
Moral of the story: AIRPLANE MODE IS YOUR FRIEND.
Glad your sorted. You may want to try the 3G fix for the slow internet speeds. If you do a search it should be one of the first two hits.
EDIT: Check out the link below. Just make sure to write down your info before you change anything.

I saw that earlier when searching for a solution. I KNEW that my 3G speeds were blazing while I was having error 16 problems, but I merely remembered it had to do something with one of the updates (PRL or profile). I saw a post with someone saying that they updated the PRL, THEN updated the profile. I thought he was crazy since this shouldn't have any kind of effect, but this did it. I went from timing out when trying to browse the market/google play to downloading apps within split seconds. Browsing went from unbearable to pages loading nearly instantly. Gotta love the easy fixes.
