[Q] Confused between RUU's! - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I've rooted my phone HTC Desire using Unrevoked3 and its working perfectly fine. Now I need to unroot it to take it for a minor repair under warranty and I'm forced to unroot it. I live in Asia, the same place where I got my phone from. I decided to follow the RUU Windows installation and now I'm confused between two RUU's I found. P.S - My phone came with Froyo at the time of purchase.
These are the two RUU's I'm talking about:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.13.707.1_Radio_32.44.00.
32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_143921_signed.exe
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5
.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
Which one should I go for and (possibly) why?
P.S - Its unbranded too
Thanks

Some of the Asia ones appear unbranded but aren't.
The bottom one is European unbranded (the.405 bit tells us that) where as the .707 is not.
Did you not make a note of what was on there originally? I bet it was the top one. Try it without a gold card, if it works its that one, if not, the other

Thank you very much Downloading now ^_^

It will report something like "incorrect customer ID" or similar (providing you DO NOT have a gold card in it) if it's the wrong one.

Thanks again, I'm very happy to say that my unrooting was successful. It took me just about 10 minutes to bring it back to stock. Infinitely grateful to you! Thanks m8

[Q] Newbie Desire owner - Rooting my device.

Hi
I just got hold of my new HTC Desire the other day and have to admit it is a fekkin great bit of kit!
I have some questions tho, please excuse my ignorance of the subject as I am in virgin territory.
I desperately want to be able to connect a Wii remote to my Desire and after watching a video on YouTube I found this is possible only on a rooted device. After some research I have found out that by rooting my phone I will void any warrantee that comes with it.
Once the device has been rooted is it possible to do a system restore to factory settings just in case? And if this is possible I'm assuming HTC will still be able to verify if the device was rooted (in case I try taking it back to them).
Any help/advice would be apprecietd.
Regards
Once you have rooted the Desire you can unroot it back to stock. HTC can't tell the difference.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thanks Fido, most appreciated.
I don't suppose you know anywhere with details on how to unroot your device? I'm assuming you would need to keep an 'image' of the original software backed up somewhere...
Regards

You just flash with the WWE or Europe ROM. Either Froyo or the latest Eclair.
Unrooting my device
Just done some research on how to unroot my device. Most of it seems pretty straight forward, however the part where you have to download the 'original RUU' is where I'm lost. What the heck is an RUU? And where do I get the original one for my phone? I am on the O2 network in the UK if that helps...

O2 UK Stock ROM - Link seem very slow, server issues maybe?? Be patient, though
(RUU = Rom Upgrade Utility, it's the ROM in an EXE file that you run in Windows to completely update your ROM)
Thanks Eddy
However I just tried the link and it doesn't work, would u be able to provide an alternetive one please??

Warranty Voided due to Root? [SOLVED-ish]

So someone rooted probably a branded set,
unrooted back to Stock.
Sent for warranty, got a call that it was rooted before thus warranty voided.
Conclusion: How do we know that we have erased the tracks of rooting our HTC Desire? How are we sure that it's the same state as it was before?
What are the main things people should look out for after rooting if they want to make sure they don't get caught rooting to void their warranty?
Thanks.
Do a full wipe and flash a stock rom. Then you should be fine.

True, according to the person he did unroot using the uh...Shipped RUU's.
Should've used the branded RUU for their phone

How do you tell it's for branded?
Not to mention many of the shipped ROMS look rather outdated-ish for new Desire users. (And not a lot of selections? Does it affect?)
I would advice to flash one of the latest stock roms just to be sure. I dont want to be harsh but your friend should have read more about rooting and restoring etc then this could have been avoided.
What carrier is the phone using? Then you need to find to find a rom that matches. But I doubt he will get his warranty back.
Of course. Lol once voided it's near impossible to get it back.
GSM, probably branded and had GPS problem.
Anywho mine is GSM as well, branded and if I want to unroot back, how would I know which is the most suitable for me?
You get an RUU that matches your carrier or closest (I guess) and a really up to date version (2.29.405.5). You can't go wrong really. If it fails, claim on your insurance... providing you have some.
Hehe sad part is I don't remember my software number, but thank you

Too outdated + not a lot.
Shipped roms site is the best but there's only one closest to my Software no but it's .1 before. It should work right?
Why does the software no matter?
It matters are HTC will know which version it was shipped with. For example:
My Desire is an unbranded handset, shipped with 1.15.405.3
So long as I sent it back with a version x.xx.405.x then I'm OK as it's the right software
If your desire wasn't on x.xx.405.x software and you send it back on it HTC can refuse to fix it

[Q]Orange UK 2.2 Froyo ROM[Q]

Couldn't really find anything about this, but I have a problem and I appreciate all help, thanks.
I really really need to install the Orange RRU on my HTC Desire HD as it's being returned to Orange, but because it's my second handset I have returned to them they are going to inspect it for any 'software modifications' (they didn't say that, but its obvious) and I really need a flash back to it. I have debranded my device at the moment, but I am not rooted, all help is greatly thanked.
Follow the link in my Sig and go to RUUs you find the latest Orange ROM there. FYI I got my DHD from Orange the first week it was launched, it was supplied unlocked & unbranded.

Right, I have that downloading now, just to double check, I have Software Version 1.32.405.6, will I still be able to flash this RRU, as I know sometimes there are problems if the Software version is newer than the RRU is flashing onto the phone.
Yeah you should be fine, going from stock 1.32 to Orange 1.84.

Do you have Radio S-OFF & SuperCID? If not try using the tool in the Dev section. You should be fine then.

No Stock ROM...Help!!!

Hello. I have an issue. I want to install LeeDrOiD but before I do I want to find the stock ROM for my phone. I have a UK Three network phone and I'm having trouble trying to find a stock ROM incase my phone decides to screw up during the install of the custom ROM.
Can someone help me? I've had an issue in the past when I didn't download a stock ROM for my G1 and now it's eternally screwed.
I'd imagine it's one of these......

Just do a nandbackup.

It was given to me by a Three Network engineer after I asked for a new phone. As far as I know it's a three phone. It comes with the three software onboard.
I'll probably do a nandbackup.
Thanks.
You do not need a backup / the stock rom because the 2.3.3 RUU should be accepted in case of warranty (at least HTC accepts it).
im on three uk also here. yours would be one of these if you was in froyo:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph..._32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_124822.exe
or this
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...8.00.32U_5.11.05.14_release_149217_signed.exe
if you upgraded 2.3.3 than just get it from the HTC website

Chinese HTC One X to UK RUU?

Hey guys i bought an HTC One X from a seller on craigslist. The phone was purchased from China (i think). Although i can change the language and keyboard to English, i cant help but wonder if its possible to flash my phone to the UK ROM
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.26.401.2_Radio_1.1204.90.13_release_251208_signed
If so, will it break anything? Any pre-cautions i should take before hand? Im in the US and use the phone on AT&T. Thanks!

Tried that 2 seconds after unpackaging the phone No new software found.
[edit]Ignore this post. Thought serialtoon had this version instead of wanting this version[/edit]
I don't think it is a retail One X purchased in China. 1.26.401.2 is generic European version IIRC. You don't need to do anything with it. You're fine just using that version and should get updates before any of the carrier branded versions.
I've included the version of the ROM I'm on right now.

Ahh. I thought you were on that version now. Sorry. Misunderstood what you were asking.
At the moment, all you can do is unlock the bootloader at htcdev and flash a custom firmware. You can't apply an official HTC firmware or change the baseband firmware as the bootloader is still in S-ON mode.
Once/if somebody does work out how to put the bootloader in S-OFF mode then you can alter the CID and reflash it with an official US or European One X firmware.

I see. Well I guess I'm stuck with this ROM for a little bit. In the end I'll just end up Modding it. As for right now. I've had the phone for less than a few hours so I'll enjoy it as it was intended. thanks!
