Future updates and Root

I have a rooted HTC Desire, and wanted to know if any future updates released for the desire (like the impending one just released for O2) will remove the root status on the phone.?
I was thinking of flashing the upcoming ROM because I really need:
1) A better battery life
2) Friendstream refreshing properly
3) CPL8 Running smoothly (whatever that is..).
Which will be given by the 1.20.xx.x FW.
BUT will my root status be affected? If so, will I need to wait for it to be jailbroken for the new FW>? Thanks in advance.
For starters you don't "really need" number 3 on your list as you don't even know what it is!
When you root your phone, the support and upgrade route is now through the Rom developer of the new Rom you installed when you rooted, and no longer with your provider or HTC.
To get the features of any new Rom you could un-root And go back to a generic Rom allowing you to use OTA. Updates, or leave it rooted and wait for the new features to be included in a custom ROM and flash that as you did as part of the rooting process.
The MCR ROMs over on MoDaCo are based on the new 1.21.405.2 WWE ROMs, that are newer than the O2 ROMs...the generic 1.21.405.2 ROM is also available on here and gets you fully up-to-date

Possible to port 2.3 on defy....

This is yet a question i want to ask everyone. Last night what i thought about was if we could sign apk files again after they had been unsigned, why can't we sign 2.3 sbf?
1. Port Gingerbread to defy and i believe it'll be buggy because that's not an easy task to do.
2. Sign the sbf just like we can sign 3rd party apk?
3. Flash the rom
I don't know but i got flared up when i saw that Htc desire is to get 2.3 by the spring...and i had seen desire's performance compared to defy and it's nothing. Defy beats desire if they're both compared with 2.2 rom.
I'm a newb at all this and this is what i thought...but i would like to know the reason why gingerbread can't be ported and signed even though we have a locked bootloader. Can't someone create an exploit or something to bypass the security checking?
you can't sign a custom kernel

[Q] New to Android - Question about ROM's - Help a newbie!

Hi All,
I have finally after a couple of years decided to move away from the Apple iPhone and buy an Android handset. As such I bought the Desire HD which I absolutely love however I wanted to debrand it using the latest software.
What I did was use the Goldcard technique to Downgrade my phone. I did this succesfully and debranded my phone, however what I realised was that I am now running a older (debranded) software.
Can anyone please assist me by providing with me some steps so that I can flash my phone again with the latest stock HTC Desire HD rom (debranded - is there a link?) or a very stable new ROM? I wouldnt mind version 2.3 if its available... I'm with Vodafone Australia and this is a Vodafone handset.
I have been told that the Goldcard method isn't the best way to do it? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Please excuse my questions as I am very new and not very good with Linux. I am very technically minded so I can pick things up quickly but I need some guidance as I have no idea about half the stuff people talk about here....
If you want stock Desire HD rom, you can flash back the RUU (2.2 Froyo). If you like 2.3 Gingerbread, you can try Cyanogen Mod 7 custom rom.
But for the most stable & battery efficient , you can try android revolution hd rom, leedroid, core droid rom.
You can view the list of rom (and also step-by-step to flash it) at the development thread located here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=765

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
I used this guide to downgrade my Desire HD. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 - This debranded my phone which is what I wanted however I also realise it is not the latest build. Is this what you are you referring too when you say RUU 2.2 Froyo Rom?
If not, do you have a link to the one you are referring too?
That page you just linked to was for people who had the 1.72blahblah firmware, but wanted to downgrade to 1.32blahblah in order to root their phones.
The official firmware can be found on this page:
http://www.shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace
...and the latest available firmware is this:
RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_release_161342_signed.exe
thanks for that, now how do I flash this? I assume the same way I did it before?
With the stock RUU exes, you don't put them on your phone and flash via Clockwork (or whatever) like you do with custom ROMs. You run the exe from your PC with the phone connected via USB and HTC Sync.
There is a comprehensive guide somewhere on this site.

[Q] How to know a Froyo build's version?

Hi, everybody. Got an unusual question today:
Last wednesday I updated my Defy to Barebones v1.5 (did my SBF backup, don't worry) right from stock Eclair. I'm having ABSOLUTELY no issues with it, but today Motorola released the official Froyo here in Brazil.
Even though I trust my phone's life completely to XDA, I feel safer using an official firmware (if no additional features in custom ROMs tease me).
I can easily downgrade to 2.1 and update to the official ROM, but I have a specific need: 720p recording. With this mod I'm currently able to do so in Barebones, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do so in the official firmware. As shown in the mod's thread, they currently support 3.4.2-117, 3.4.2-145 and 3.4.2-155 build versions.
So, my question is: is there any way I can find out the official firmware's version? If I won't be able to record in 720p (which is a indispensable feature for me, as a future vlogger), I won't update. The update comes as an executable (so I can't look into the ROM's files), so a database of official firmwares would be better.
Thanks in advance,
Gabriel

[Q] Root needed for Official HTC Desire RUU ROM

Hi,
I have HTC Desire HD mobile, with official HTC RUU ROM, I would like to root this device without losing this official release. Can anyone help Me in this?
As previous I installed other ROM, Revolution 7.1 , but My Camera Result was disturbed which I liked the most in DHD, so I revert it, and now I wanted root access in this Official Release,
as Ace kit is not working for this version, and force me to downgrade it first.
Advance thanks to you guys.
