Dear all,
Going today to exchange my french version to an english one. But I still have one question about the artemis. Does anyone know how to get hold of all the maps, at least for europe, for the Tomtom software.
Here in Luxembourg we buy the phone with one country map included. You can somehow register on the internet to download this one. But cant I somewhere download all the maps?

You can buy them in a shop if you want more than that one map. Downloading from the internet is either not free or... yes... illegal

If you go to link below you should be able to buy the maps, I think you will have to register to do so?

You must have the tomtom product code first (should be delivered with your artemis, if the map was already loaded).
Otherwise even if you buy maps from TT site, you will not be able to register them.

I am using it, not the voice nav, as it is a paid service , but the maps are updated regularly and they are very detailed for city area, you may be out of luck in remote areas as villages, etc though.
you can download the maps via wifi through Locations App. If you want voice guided navigation, then you need to purchase it. I think it costs around 2k INR .
If you live in a country that does not have Local Scout in Mango (e.g. Canada)
Set your phone to English US in settings - region + languages. It'll then restart your phone and you'll have access to local Scout.
Just did that and it works (I am in Montreal, Canada for the record). Before that I did not had local scout nor bing audio icon in search.
I did that and bing audio icon is still missing..
Always had the local scout icon since the beginning though...
Does this mean that these features are going to be USA market only? Again like the voice search is currently?
If so, massive fail and i'd be really annoyed.
I have no clue about that but the fact that it works (data is available at least) is a good sign. I used to only have an eye and a mic icon. And now I have a town icon (Local Scout) and a music note (Shazam like search).
btw Local Scout is pinnable so you can easily know what's around you on the go.
You can get the local scout option to appear, but doesn't mean it'll find anything.
Here is China it finds nothing nearby, so I've turned off all location based searches - pointless if Bing doesn't have info on the country.
I've tried this, and can only get local scout to work. I'm in canada as well. I really wish bing audio worked, shazam takes forever to load.
yup, if you set "use my location" as ON from bing search option, local scout icon will appear, although it doesn't necessarily mean it will find anything around your region.
local scout finds nothing in my area too (surabaya, indonesia) because it is not supported region
getting bing audio is still mystery for me. However, a friend of mine in my region (indonesia) told me that he has bing audio icon on his by setting up region as US.
Mine is developer unlocked and did the mango update the official way. His is not. Maybe it is different mango build???????

I'm living in Indonesia and Bing Audio just worked. I leave my Region and System Locale and the other to Indonesia. Successfully identified "Party Rock Anthem (LMFAO)", "Price Tag (Jessie J)", "Bounce (Calvin Harris)", "Give Me Everything (PitBull)", etc.
Of course, Nearby would return nothing, since I'm sure there're no data for this country yet.

just did this, restart device and bing audio is still missing... Any other suggestions?
strange ... maybe it's device specific bug. mine is dev-unlocked focus.
After switching to English US everything is available and seems to work in Germany. I've testet music search(like Shazam) and works. Local search works also and finds everything in my location. So Germany might getting additional options for Bing. But it wouldn't surprise me so much as windows phone has a bigger market share in Germany than elsewhere in the world.
Hmm.. I am using mozart, but another bloke is using mozart in indonesia and his got bing audio too..
This is weird that changing these settings is working for some people, but not others, I can't get bing audio either, I'm in Canada too.
Maybe it is because I've set up my Zune account as US even if I live in Canada, my computer is set to English US too.
That's possible seeing as how some of the zune services aren't available here in canada.

Doesn't seem to work if you Pin Local Scout to your start screen.
Shows no location data available for me, yet going into Bing, then tapping local scout works.
In canada, btw.
I have Sygic Mobile Maps 10 installed with Cyprus and Greece map. It is working very good but i have a problem...When i scrol to find
cities,pois stucks and exits from the programm...I also saw the requirements 200 mhz and my wildfire has 528mhz...Any clues? This is the only one programm that is suitable with my phone and the map of Cyprus!Please help me!!!

Sorry about this noob question, I am clueless on GPS stuff.
I've used the Arc sometimes to plot my traveling so I won't get lost when driving from source to destination, works fine and well. But it only locks and tracks my location when I have data running (3G down to GPRS). Will it ever work without using data?
Or is the data use triggered by Maps application?
Is there a way, wherein I can download the map and route when I am at home via WIFI, then use the GPS only (without data) when I am traveling already? Is another app required for this?

Goodle Maps caches the mapping data for a month IIRC, so you can download the maps using WiFi and then view them without hammering your data.
u can use iGO and it requires only GPS (no data).
So only iGO doesn't use data?
So does it store maps locally?
Maybe somebody knows here which is the real navigation for Android, menaning you
can just store locally all the maps and use GPS.

Or you can buy navigon. Where you only download your maps once, through PC our wifi, and won't need data to navigate

I use iGO on my ARC and all the maps are stored on my SD card. Works like a charm. if you want i can provide the iGO "kit" with all the maps.
Have used copilot in the past on a Samsung Galaxy lite and it worked very well, it is pricey though

thanks for the ideas, so what's mentioned here is: iGo, navigon, and copilot.
there is a wisepilot installed here on the phone (a default bloatware) but i find the default Maps more easier to use than it.

It will be nice if you can upload the files you used. I have installed iGO and opens just fine but i have problem reading my country's map.
I would try yours to see if everything will be ok.
