Dear all,
Going today to exchange my french version to an english one. But I still have one question about the artemis. Does anyone know how to get hold of all the maps, at least for europe, for the Tomtom software.
Here in Luxembourg we buy the phone with one country map included. You can somehow register on the internet to download this one. But cant I somewhere download all the maps?

You can buy them in a shop if you want more than that one map. Downloading from the internet is either not free or... yes... illegal

If you go to link below you should be able to buy the maps, I think you will have to register to do so?

You must have the tomtom product code first (should be delivered with your artemis, if the map was already loaded).
Otherwise even if you buy maps from TT site, you will not be able to register them.

I am trying put in an address in spain to navigate to
They have something which looks like a postcode it is 5 numbers but tomtom doesnt recoginse it nor does it recognise the place calahonda.
It seem to recognise all other areas in spain but not there can anyone help.

i cant help you with your (spain specific) problems. i just can make a few suggestion how to circumvent it:
i have found places that doesnt exist in tomtom. often the problem is that the place i am looking for is not really official. how about using the "location on map" function? ("Ort auf Karte" in german..that's what i use)
that of course doesnt help if you dont know where your destination is. in this case i try finding it with web based route planners.
it's not perfect, i know, but it might provide a solution.
You may upgrade your tomtom spain map?
I have just got my hands on the iPAQ 614 which comes with Google Maps pre-installed. The problem is that this is an old version. I have tried to install a newer version of Google Maps but it fails every time. How can I remove the pre-installed version to be able to install the latest GM version? I can't believe HP are so inflexible!

update of google maps just went fine on my 614c from http://google.com/gmm
but im not so happy with it, gps signal is very poor, wont find any satellites. same issue with igo 8. anyone got a hint?

try com 4, rate 9600.
Forgive me if I understood your problem wrongly. While the HD has built-in GPS it is not supplied with any software or app associated with it for navigating or even for displaying coordinates or compass navigation.
Once you download the Google Maps (which also supports, for some countries the street map display) application onto your device, it will make use of the GPS and show you your position, with moving map display as you drive, quite smoothly and accurately. It will also show your approximate position indoors without GPS (using A-GPS and the cell site ID supporting LBS).
For point to point navigation and voice prompts guess one has to use 3rd party app like Garmin XT, TomTom; but I have not used these.

You need to state what software you are using. If its Google maps just let Windows manage the GPS.
Why doesn't the GPS Photo work. It says that GPS is not active or something. What's up with that?

I had the same problem, no one can't help me. Any gps software I used couldn`t find gps reciver, I've tried any combinations with COM ports....nothing. After 1 month and about 10 gps software I removed SIM card....and BINGO!!!! My old SIM card generate problem that nothing can find built-in gps reciver in my Touch HD. Try without SIM card and if it works go to operator and replace to new SIM card

Sorry about this, but your tips does'nt help me:
I removed the SIMcard but the GPS in GOOGLEMAP didn't work anyway!
I tried to let it be managed by windows and to set it on COM4 with 9600bauds but no options succeded!
I can't understand what's wrong!!!

Furthermore, when I set up the GPS-params in the params-application of windows mobile 6, the hard port (COM4) I chose isn't recorded by the software!!!
Maybe it's a hint for the answer?

go to google and download the lastest ver. google map.
try to go to a window or a open space and turn on the google map. press option and try to click use gps , and see any reading on the top right of the map screen.
dont need to adjust any com 4,5,6 things.
once you got a lock on gps. you can close the google map and start to look out for third party nav software. try it.
Mine works perfectly fast at

does ur phone need to go online when activating the gps? my car's gps doesnt need online yet the device can detect its location. however when i use google map, the phone just went online and try to search for my location. not too ideal as i have to pay for every kb sent/recieved.

Mine shows correct location when I set port - Com4 and BAUD: 57600 on Google maps for just a second. Then it jumps to some other continent and says GPS not available and shows the help dialog. Allowing windows to manage gps also gives same results what am i doing wrong?? or is it a limitation of blackstone/google maps app..

I've tryed what you done but it didn't succeded!
In the GMaps List I see: "COM4:" and there is nothing after the ":" !
When I confirm this update, the soft tell me that he can't found a device on this COM!!!
ok, my settings, com4, bd 4800, let windows manage (which kinda negates any settings before hand) Google maps set to let windows manage. My GPS locks well and always finds plenty of satalites, so i dont understand why you guys are having problems.
Howver, on my polaris with cooked rom, my google maps does misbeahve sometimes when the gps is locked and the map will suddenly say im in hong kong when im in the uk!! (i even unistalled google that was included in rom and downloaded new version from google)
So i believe in my limited wisdom that its probably a rom issue (radio more likely).
What i do have to decide is if the official 1.56 rom is worth flashing or not (still on 1.14)
What you guys think?

I have never fiddled with ROM but I have same issue. google maps jumps continent!! momentarily despite 7 satellites. May be an issue with Google maps itself??

I have the same problem. I have already donwloaded the 1.56 rom and the uspl but cant seem to decide to flash or not.

i just got mine htc touch pro 2 and watching 2 seconds of it i am loving it.
but i got tom tom on the phone and it wont get a gps fix.
I dint install it using a installer i already had it on my sd card and copy it with the map to my phone it will start but i cant get a gps fix.
please any help is apreciated.

I don't think it has anything to do with software. (at least GPS) I have the same problems with Google Maps as well as TeleNav. I was on the phone for 2 hours with t-mo tech support and was told that it was probable an issue with Google not T-Mobile. There suggestion was TeleNav, when that did not work I called back and another hour later they stated it was an issue with my phone.... SOOOOO, I went today got a new one and STILL the same problem. Cant find Sats. or Location unavail. So at this point i have no idea what the problem is... Guess I'll call tech support

In my kaiser, I use WWE roms and I never had problems with GPS.
On my Frensh Orange ROM, there is no QuickGPS. But with the bad GPS signal level, it will never fix.
i feel sorry to hear ur problem.. my gps works fine.. in fact its better than my previous Touch Pro/Fuze .. my Rhodium locks gps satt within 10seconds
maybe have to wait for new Radio ROM..

We have a real problem.
Which software you use to check the reception? I use TomTom7 and BeelineGPS

Verizon is the scum of the earth. They screw with every feature a phone has, limiting bluetooth, GPS, wifi, etc.. I'm honestly surprised they don't totally screw up phones (beyond what functional removal they're already doing, that is).

That's why I bailed out of Verizon a couple of years ago. They cripple features of the phone when those features might cause them to lose revenue (we wouldn't want your browser to save pictures when you can buy wallpaper through Verizon, would we?). I bailed out when I decided to replace my PDA with a PDA/phone and I didn't want to go with Verizon only to find out they're crippling PDAs as well.
Just upgrade the radio rom.
I was getting a GPS signal only once out of every 10 times I used it. As soon as I upgrade the Radio its fixed 10/10 the original Radio's were faulty/buggy when acquiring GPS signal.
can you give me the number of your radio rom version ?

I'm from India & bought x1 2 weeks back. Installed Garmin xt on x1.. tried using it..thought it shows everything POI, every time I click GO TO a particular place... it always come with "AWAITING BETTER GPS ACCURACY".
Do anyone know, If it can be resolved!!!

click on the signal bars at the top left corner of the main page, then GPS info. Do you see your coordinates or do you see "acquiring satellites"? I only get the "awaiting better gps accuracy" when theres no satellite lock.
look at sky if ther are clouds it makes GPS hard to work.
but my X1's GPS works great and fast
but my GARMIN has 1 mistake
when I'm riding to my car and car shovs speed about 80km/h Garmin shows me about 60km/h
but on the map all streets and cordinates are very corect

I always used garmin before i tryed tomtom and several others. at first i didn't like tomtom, but it doesn't have any problem with anything! it's alot faster and more reliable! I think you must try tomtom version 7.916. this is the latest

I have Garmine xt too, and it didn't came with California, Oregon or other big states are missing... is this normal? i bought used one from this owner and doesn't come with the states that i travel most!! i was like wtf... even California was not in there. If this is what Garmin Xt offers, i'm changing it to tomtom or other gps systesm for my x1!! hmmp!

To be able to "see" satelites from this app, you must register it
I'm using Garmin in my X1 for quite long time without problems.

I tried doing so & it cums back saying "acquiring satellites". I kept it looking for that info for about half an hour, but to no avail.

This is not normal with Garmin. The map is just not complete. you can use Garmin City Navigator to update the maps. Other option is to look for a map for North America witch is activated already.

You may use and SEX1_HTC_GPS_tooll too.
I am not shure if is it allowed on this forum to talk about warez...?
Anyway, you have to find keygen with instructions (it is tricky to do it but can be done).
Untill you got registered version of Garmin app with map on your device you will not "see" satellites. Also, when you all done with registration and all that, go outside and do some "where to" route and wait to find satellites for first time...it takes for minute or two (with QuickGPS installed and updated).
