[Q] Cyanogen Render Effects? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Did some searching and couldn't find an answer on this.
Do the render effects in Cyanogen roms save battery life on the G2?
I know they are suppose to work best with amoled screens and the G2 is SLCD.

Nope, won't save any battery on a LCD screen. Only works on AMOLED.

[Q] Best ROM for battery? (with 720p recording!)

Hi guys, currently on LeeDroid's Sense ROM, the battery life is awful though, can anyone recommend the best ROM for battery life?
I've just spent the past couple of hours putting Oxygen ROM on and all my apps only to find APPS2SD didn't work (and I can't find a setting for it) and the video camera doesn't do 720p (important for me)
Can anyone recommend a good ROM with decent battery? (2.2 or above)
cheers
Im using CM7, kernel and radio in signature. (i think 720p recording is working, not sure im not using it)
81% battery after 21hours, im not using the phone much but still i think its pretty good.
SetCPU on Smartass 384-998mhz, and Screen Off 123-384Mhz profile.

cheers, looks like the maximum is 720x480 though (rather than 1280x720) and it can't play back 720 video either

I recently compared some rom's battery drain (Redux, CM, Oxygen, UD, Leedroid) when the phone is sleeping (cause i think it's the only usage you can really compare) with Battery widget, and there is no doubt for me that Leedroid has one of the lowest battery drain if not the lowest in sleeping mode (only 1mA in airplane mode during the night,3 to sometimes 5 with gsm on). Maybe that should not be the only usage to consider, but as you also want 720p, my advice would be : don't change anything, keep Leedroid !
720p on Desire is like using 12mpix setting on a cheap Digital camera, it's crappy and takes more space. Desire isn't powerful enough for smooth HD video display anyway.

the one on LeeDroid is very smooth, no skipped frames. OK, the bitrate isn't ideal (but neither is SD on the phone), but it will do me in times when it's all I have on me when out with my kids. I've had HD since my first was born 4.5 years ago and have never filmed them in SD, all home videos are on Blu-ray (and PS3 HDD) with a minimum of 720p.
I will be moving to the LG 3D or Evo 3D (which ever is out 1st in the UK) as soon as I can
+1 LeeDroid
I've tried a few different roms including CM7 - after all the hype I was shocked when I flashed CM7 only to find it laggier than LeeDroid... That was with a clean slate as well. Straight back to LeeDroid...
On battery life I can't speak for CM7, but LeeDroid has the lowest battery drain IMO. I'm also using Juice Defender which helps a LOT.

cheers guys, guess I'll stick with LeeDroid then and survive with 8 hours battery life
8 hours?
Are you running with wifi/bluetooth/apn/gps on all the time?
Have you tried calibrating your battery?

[Q] How to increase battery life in HTC desire

Any one knows any method to increse battery life in HTC desire
If you Install a new Rom you must clear your Battery stats. Search in the Forum howto make that for your Device otherwise you see wrong Battery "Stats".
Otherewise there are some Apps where you can Incrase/decrase CPU Power and stuff like that.
update date your radio, that should increase battery life
Installing a Rom will help increase the battery life. The stock one is not so good at it.
Put animations low, display light some lower like 30% and controlled by hand, control your CPU and UV settings by hand. Check your synctimes for all your apps. I think these are the most common things to check and play with.

Thanx for making 'dasSOfa' clear. wiping battery stat won't level up ur battery life.
If u want better battery cycle, put aside eye popping rom and use some AOSP with some right kernel. That should do the trick.
I flashed several ROMs and never messed anywhere near the battery and so far, so good.
If you want longer battery life use Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 + Juice Defender Ultimate. It increases my battery life by about 50-75%
Check out EasyProfiles by SmartDyne, it helps me a lot increasing battery life..
since screen is a huge part of battery consumption, setting a darker wallpaper will increase battery life over a brighter/lighter one. by how much i dont know but it definitely helps, especially if you have an amoled screen.
this is the only thing that i can come up with other than the ones listed above.

ONLY if you have an amoled screen. Pure Black is best. If its SLCD it may even be to your advantage to have a bright one as its quite power consuming creating Black using Light.

[Q] about stock battery

Hello guys! I am a nebie here and i own the gpad.I wanted to ask you about the life of the battery,is it depleted so quickly because of the resolution of the screen or is it a result of poor optimizing on behalf of lg?Will the custom roms and kernels will be able to fix the problem and extend the battery life?Cause if its going to be fixed,it will be one of the best tablets
Thank you in advance
According to the battery usage data that the G pad produces, its pretty much the screen itself that consumes pretty much all of the power.
If that is correct, and I believe it is, there is no fix for it.
The only real thing you can do to extend battery life is turn down the brightness of the screen.

[Q] Battery Life Custom ROMs

Hi people!
My problem and the background information:
The LG G3 has a fairly good battery life when using the Stock ROM.
It´s good, but its average! And you know why: the massive screen with its massive resolution is bringing the battery life down and LG didnt managed to put a battery saving screen in the G3 (in comparison to e.g. Samsung Galaxy Note4)
But on the other hand LG included their A3 technique, wich should increase battery life, by downclocking and reducing the frame rate when not watching videos or playing games.
BUT if you use a Custom ROM, there is no A3 technique included that increases battery life.
Therefore I think the battery life on Custom ROMs isn't that good?? Or am I wrong with this??
So here's my question:
Did somebody tested the battery life on a custom ROM with the LG G3?
And whats your screen-on time over a day or a certain time?
(Because the framerate should be on 60 Hz therefore it should be a really worse battery life on Custom ROMs.)
Sorry for my bad english and thank you for answering my question

Possible to run lower resolution, for longer battery life?

Especially with root now becoming available, I started giving this more thought:
If someone wanted to do that, would running a lower resolution be an option, to perhaps extend your battery life?
The screen is QHD, 1440x2560. To minimize scaling issues with a fixed-pixel-location screen like an LCD, you could go down to HD, 720x1280. Now the graphics hardware is dealing with 1/4 as many pixels. It won't look as good, granted, but lets say the user accepts that trade-off.
Is this even possible? If so, do you think it could help battery life?
I don't have experience with this on phones. But on a computer, you can certainly lower your display resolution, even if using an LCD. It will look fuzzy at a non-native resolution, but perhaps that's less of an issue here, with the pixels being so small by comparison. And if you were gaming on the PC, lowering the resolution would allow higher framerates, assuming you were limited by your graphics card, not your CPU. I've admittedly never thought about it from a power-use perspective, but it seems reasonable that, if keeping the framerate the same, running a lower resolution would require less power for the PC.
My Galaxy S3 was 720x1280, admittedly on a smaller 4.8" screen, but I thought it looked fine. If using a lower screen resolution could, say, add 20% to my G4's SOT, I would be interested in that.
I believe this is what changing the DPI is for. This can be done via apps, or changing the value in the build.prop I think. Pushing less pixels on to the screen will definitely increase battery life. There's a threshold though, and depending on which G4 variant you have (whether it's branded by a carrier, etc.) you may want to research on what a safe number might be. I think some AT&T G4 user reported bootloops after changing the DPI to <530 or something. It looks like the camera doesn't get affected by the DPI change too, which is a definite good sign.
I'm waiting to see how the battery life holds up right now with root mode now being enabled in Greenify. If I can't squeeze more than 5 hours SoT while at a certain brightness and using BT, I'll consider changing the DPI.
This is not going to improve battery life in the slightest. You might be running a lower resolution but all the pixels are stilled turned on. The lower tax on the GPU is negligible.

Agreed. This was done on the G3 and batter life was not changed, only game performance improved as you are pushing graphics at 1080p instead of 1440p.

I believe that that's wrong, specially if you set it to numbers lower than stock.
I found a way to change the resolution

Follow this thread, it's so simple and works perfectly!! on LG G4 818p
