Does keeping wi-fi on all the time, while setting it's sleep policy to never affect battery?
I forgot to turn wi-fi off last night, and noticed this morning that my phone didn't sleep since wi-fi was turned on. Is this normal?

your phone not sleeping and wifi being sleep never are two separate things. i have turned that on weeks ago and my phone still sleeps, you might have something else that is keeping your phone awake - app, restored add TB, kernel, rom

Well, when I turn off my wi-fi my phone sleeps... So if this isn't normal, then maybe it's an issue with the Rom I'm using. Even though the phone shows 100% awake time, my battery life isn't an issue.

I charge my phone to 100% before bed, turn off the sync, and don't use it at all overnight. I'll wake up in the morning and it's drained down 15% or so without touching it. When I check my battery usage, it shows that about 4-5 hours after unplugging it, something wakes up the phone and keeps it awake causing a dip in the battery level. There aren't any apps that are doing it as the main battery user is the Android System.
Now, if I reboot the phone while still on the charger before bed and allow the phone to return to 100%, this drain doesn't happen. I'll wake up and have 95-97% battery.
Any help or ideas?
BTW: I'm running Calkulins ROM 2.8 with and EL29 but this has happened since before I rooted the phone.
Download betterbatterystats from the market. Let the phone sit overnight again and view partial wakelocks.
Or turn the phone's airplane mode on...
I'll try the app. I can't really use airplane mode because I need to phone on for emergencies. Thanks.

If you don't need data, you can turn that off along with sync. Calls will still come through

I'll try that too. I got the app today so I'll see what happens tonight when I don't reset before unplugging and check the drain.
Have you tried Lunesta?

Couldn't convince the phone to swallow the pill.
I figured it out with that app. Slacker Radio was the problem. I used the it during the day and didn't exit out from the app. I guess Android killed the process because it was idle for so long because it wasn't coming up in the Active Applications app but it was still active in the background. The app mentioned earlier showed me that Slacker was active for over 2 hours while the phone was sitting, screen off, overnight. That's why when I rebooted before bed, the drain didn't happen. I just have to make sure to exit out and close the app when I'm done with it. Thanks for the help.
Even exiting the app via the in app menu causes the problem. The only thing I've found to completely fix it is to either reboot the phone sometime after using the app or clearing the RAM via the included task manager. I sent an email to Slacker support and they told me to use the app menu to exit out, well that doesn't fix it. Hopefully it'll be addressed in a future update from them.
So I've been working to get as much battery as possible out of my device. Just today, I left my phone with wifi turned off on my desk and sync on, and it idled down only 1% over the course of 2.5 hours. Great, that's almost better than in gingerbread. The minute I turn wifi on and let it idle, my new wake locks are coming from "phone" and process "rild" in GSam. Any thoughts what these ones are?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I've tried searching but it's tough to search wake lock and "phone" since it's such a vague term, but seems to be a specific piece of Android that GSam is reporting on.
Rild seems to be a radio interface layer or something related to 3g/4g,but why would that even be attempting to wake the phone when wifi is on? Isn't that portion of data turned off when on wifi?

I unplugged my phone before I went to bed to see how much it would drain overnight. I only slept for 5.5 hours. My phone had lost 16%. Is this normal?
I was connected to wifi, only thing I had syncing was Facebook for every 4 hours.
I forgot to screenshot the cpu times, but it spent a majority of the time in deep sleep and 384.
Also, what do the red bars mean in BBS?

Try disabling WiFi as well? Im guessing you dont need Facebook to sync while you sleep, just refresh it when you wake up. Noticed you clock down to 384mhz while screen off. odd how still took away a lot for only 5 hours.

I dont think clocking down helps that much. it doesnt stop the same processes from running, and it takes longer to run them with the lower processing power, especially when the phone has all night to do it /
According to your screenshots you have posted, that kakao talk app is in wakelock, keeping the phone from actually sleeping. Although the other stats seem to contradict this i would be willing to bet this is your problem. I would either disable it from syncing in the app, freezing the process, or somehow prevent it from running. I would put money on it improving battery life drastically. I cant be sure of this as i dont use betterbatterystats but i would suspect the red bar is the time spent in wakelock, while the cpu is supposedly in deep sleep.
That doesn't look normal. I get less than 1%/hour overnight. Though I don't use Facebook or Facebook app. I do have 2 Gmail accounts on auto sync. Weather widget sync/hour. Field trip and Google+ sync enabled and wifi is always on when I'm at home.

Definitely not normal... I get about the same 1% an hour overnight.
I'll give it a shot tonight. Thanks.

I had battery drain issues, download juice defender, it basically turns off 4g when the screen is off and allows email retrievable based on a set schedule...my phone lasts twice as long now

I was wondering if this was occurring for anyone especially when you turn on the screen and I can see that the wifi slider tab that indicates on/off turns on when I wake up the device. I also can't connect to any wi-fi networks since it just shuts off randomly within the minute or two that I connect to a network....
I am stock, rooted with Note2core kernel.
Me too
Yes, I just noticed this today, after having this phone for 2 days. I can start up a Wi-Fi connection to my home network, and after 3-4 minutes, it just drops off. Once it drops off wi-fi, it waits about 2 minutes and reconnects back to my home Wi-Fi.
Right now, I suspect that it might have something to do with power. Today is the first day that I have not charged the phone at all during the day. I am at 30% battery now. I started noticing the network shutoff this afternoon, I suspect when I was in the 50% battery range.
I put my phone on the charger to see if that might stop the wi-fi drop outs, but it hasn't yet.
I will tell you that I have done most of my fiddling using the Wi-Fi setup of the settings menu. As a check, I went in to the AT&T Smart Wi-Fi app and started my home Wi-Fi from there. My connection still dropped off after 4 minutes, but the AT&T app told me that my connection had gone into sleep mode.
I'm hoping that everything will return to normal in the morning after I get my battery back up in the 80%-90% range. I have been able to find any power setting that would cause the Wi-Fi to cycle like this.

Edited to add that I am stock, no roms or rooting.
From another thread... and it addressed the issue for me...
Delete all saved wifis.
Open the servicemode with
*#197328640#
Open the wifi menu via menu button and deactivate the energy saving mode.
Reconfigure your wifi.

ghicks, you are correct...
I tried this last night, and I have gone all night without a drop out, but I did sleep a couple of hours in there.
As a side note, I did have to reboot my phone after making this change.
Good luck
I had this issue until I froze the ATT smart wifi app with Titanium Backup. No problems since.

I also have not had this problem since I froze the ATT Smart Wifi app.
I figured it was some power saving option that I had not yet found, but I never saw it happen again after freezing all the bloat. Didn't think about it again until I saw this post.
Can someone tell me how to freeze the at&t smart wifi?
Doesn't seem that freezing the ATT app works (using Titanium Backup, selecting app, and freeze). And disabling WiFi energy saver in the engineering menu resets after a reboot...

A few of us in another thread have disabled our AT&T smart wifi app and have fixed our wifi disconnecting problem. We've done this by uninstalling any updates for the app and then disabling the app all through application manager in settings.

Thanks for the replies. It seems one can un install the smart wifi from the play store? I have not done it, but that option is available in play store.
This problem returned for me today. I have tried to use the code to reset the power save setting, but it isn't working for me.
I'm at 57% battery, and I just noticed this at around 65%.

Been about an hoursince my last update...
I turned off the energy saver mode in service mode. It dropped the wifi a couple of minutes after I did so. I verified that energy saver mode was still turned off in service mode.
I rebooted my phone, and I haven't dropped my Wi-Fi since. I went back in to service mode and verified that rebooting did restore energy saving mode to ON.
So, simply rebooting the phone is what helped me today. Since I am presently at 46% battery, it doesn't appear that battery levels alone are enough to kick this behavior in.
I don't know...
Im on frosty JB and randomly my phone just starts taking forever to charge. I left it charging overnight and it only got to 81%. I usually get to full battery in a couple of hours.
Anyone know whats up?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I'm running the same rom and I can tell you that every since I switched to JB, other chargers take longer to charge my phone than the original. If you are using the original, make sure you don't have an app preventing the phone from sleeping or possibly have your governor set to performance.
If I remember correctly, there is a "fast charge" setting somewhere, but I can't find it on my current (Darth Stalker) ROM. But other than that, you could A) turn the phone of while its charging overnight; or B) enable power-save mode and/or airplane mode while you are sleeping and the phone is charging. You could also turn off your data and wifi while charging overnight because its not like you'll be posting to Twitter in your sleep
Okay ill try out what you guys suggested but its just weird because it never did this before. It started happening when I flashed cm10. When I noticed this I flashed frosty jb back and the problem presists.
