I was wondering if this was occurring for anyone especially when you turn on the screen and I can see that the wifi slider tab that indicates on/off turns on when I wake up the device. I also can't connect to any wi-fi networks since it just shuts off randomly within the minute or two that I connect to a network....
I am stock, rooted with Note2core kernel.
Me too
Yes, I just noticed this today, after having this phone for 2 days. I can start up a Wi-Fi connection to my home network, and after 3-4 minutes, it just drops off. Once it drops off wi-fi, it waits about 2 minutes and reconnects back to my home Wi-Fi.
Right now, I suspect that it might have something to do with power. Today is the first day that I have not charged the phone at all during the day. I am at 30% battery now. I started noticing the network shutoff this afternoon, I suspect when I was in the 50% battery range.
I put my phone on the charger to see if that might stop the wi-fi drop outs, but it hasn't yet.
I will tell you that I have done most of my fiddling using the Wi-Fi setup of the settings menu. As a check, I went in to the AT&T Smart Wi-Fi app and started my home Wi-Fi from there. My connection still dropped off after 4 minutes, but the AT&T app told me that my connection had gone into sleep mode.
I'm hoping that everything will return to normal in the morning after I get my battery back up in the 80%-90% range. I have been able to find any power setting that would cause the Wi-Fi to cycle like this.

Edited to add that I am stock, no roms or rooting.
From another thread... and it addressed the issue for me...
Delete all saved wifis.
Open the servicemode with
*#197328640#
Open the wifi menu via menu button and deactivate the energy saving mode.
Reconfigure your wifi.

ghicks, you are correct...
I tried this last night, and I have gone all night without a drop out, but I did sleep a couple of hours in there.
As a side note, I did have to reboot my phone after making this change.
Good luck
I had this issue until I froze the ATT smart wifi app with Titanium Backup. No problems since.

I also have not had this problem since I froze the ATT Smart Wifi app.
I figured it was some power saving option that I had not yet found, but I never saw it happen again after freezing all the bloat. Didn't think about it again until I saw this post.
Can someone tell me how to freeze the at&t smart wifi?
Doesn't seem that freezing the ATT app works (using Titanium Backup, selecting app, and freeze). And disabling WiFi energy saver in the engineering menu resets after a reboot...

A few of us in another thread have disabled our AT&T smart wifi app and have fixed our wifi disconnecting problem. We've done this by uninstalling any updates for the app and then disabling the app all through application manager in settings.

Thanks for the replies. It seems one can un install the smart wifi from the play store? I have not done it, but that option is available in play store.
This problem returned for me today. I have tried to use the code to reset the power save setting, but it isn't working for me.
I'm at 57% battery, and I just noticed this at around 65%.

Been about an hoursince my last update...
I turned off the energy saver mode in service mode. It dropped the wifi a couple of minutes after I did so. I verified that energy saver mode was still turned off in service mode.
I rebooted my phone, and I haven't dropped my Wi-Fi since. I went back in to service mode and verified that rebooting did restore energy saving mode to ON.
So, simply rebooting the phone is what helped me today. Since I am presently at 46% battery, it doesn't appear that battery levels alone are enough to kick this behavior in.
I don't know...

I spend most of my work day with no signal, so my battery dies quick constantly searching. I've now got google voice setup, so I can do everything i need over wifi, but can't enable airplane mode without it preventing wifi from working as well. I'm running SFR 1.2. Turn Airplane Mode on and then turn Wifi on. Wifi will go on while Airplane Mode is active. If you have Wifi on and then turn Airplane Mode on, it will turn Wifi off... just re-enable Wifi.

That's the exact same issue i'm having. I can attempt to turn wifi on, but it seems to just grey out the options with airplane mode on. From either the quick launch bar, or directly in settings i get the same issue.
Just tested this to see...
Works fine stock ec05. Must be something isolated to SRF
that's funny because I was just looking for an application that does this too. SRF 1.2 won't let you enable wifi with airplane mode on. I don't know if this is an SRF issue or if it's like that for all ROMs. anyway, I found this app [(download here)] and it works perfectly. very simple to use
It works on stock and I have also used this method with various midnight ROM's
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Stock Froyo has always had this ability by default. Must be an isolated custom ROM thing.
here try this also. Turn on your wifi first, then turn airplane mode on & see if the wifi stays connected. this method works for me on SRF 1.2

I don't see an app called "Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool". Anyone with a direct link or alternative?

I used Airplane Mode Wifi from the market, and it worked fine. what's funny, is ever since installing the app and setting it to "always allow wifi during airplane mode" i haven't had a problem with it anymore on any rom or any kernel.
Hold power button for a few seconds. Select "Data network mode" to turn off mobile data. Press back button. (Soft key or hardware, doesn't matter) Turn on wifi.
What be the problem gents?

The fact that it doesn't turn the main phone radio off, and would still leave me with a dead phone by the end of my work day. That's my whole reason. I have no signal all day at work, but plenty of wifi (hooray google voice.)

I am wondering if it is something with this phone. I am not using JD but rather Green Power (same as JD) and it seems to have an issue shutting off data as well. I ended up using Llama and setting a condition that whenever the screen goes off to kill data and vice versa. It has been working great.
Tried it for a day and noticed that my phone couldn't connect to data even when wifi was off other users also had the same issue so I've steered clear of it since besides while using it really didn't see much of a difference in battery life

i have gotten both results. some days it does work, some days it doesn't. when it chooses to work and when it doesn't occur at random times, and i'm not sure what i do that makes sure that it works as it should.
i wonder if this issue and other reports of settings being reset after a reboot are phone related or firmware related...

what did you do?
In the "about" tab there are different options, this is what I have; enable after unlock is highlighted, disable on wifi (data) (4G) are highlighted, all the rest are not highlighted. Of course I have the app itself enabled with aggressive highlighted. Notifications needs to be allowed... been working ok for 2 days now.

Has been working for me as well. Using ultimate, advanced settings, basically have it set to turn off data while screen is off, sync every 5 minutes, using location for WiFi for home and work. averaging 1.85x. Data does not turn on when lock screen is checked, only when phone is unlocked. At that point, I see the juice defender icon has a red dot to indicate no data connection. It then turns blue and cell data turns on momentarily while wifi connects. The pull down menu indicates "screen" as the trigger got starting data.
Rooted just the other day, flashed the stock minus bloatware ROM (tesh's streamlined version 1) yesterday, juice defender still working fine.
Its working fine for me.

This thing works well for me but
i'm not sure about the features that require root. Id be very curious to hear if anyone has got the 2g/3g/4g toggle to work as well as any of the other features that require root on the stock ROM.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I just bought the Ultimate version. I intend to put some screenshots up after a few days to show if there are any differences between the battery life I have been experiencing with this phone and what I experience with Juice Defender installed and working on it.
Obviously, there will be some tweaking going on to get it set up properly but hopefully I will have everything figured out very shortly. I have high hopes for this application though I realize I am likely going to have to root the phone to gain access to the 2g/3g/4g toggle function. That is likely to save me the most battery power when I am out of the house and office while still allowing synchronization all of the time.
It worked good for me just had one complaint. It takes a few secs to connect from screen off. But it does save some battery.
So here I am. I'm using this forum so much and i've always found everything i need so i don't post often. But now i've a problem and i can't find out the solution.
So.. i've got a Nexus and use FoxHound ROM. I also use JuiceDefender. The problem is after a couple of times i wake the screen the network doesn't start.
I explain. I've got signal, i can receive messages and calls, but the network doesn't start. I can't access the internet. Neither market, or any app that uses mobile data. I've tried to disable Juice Defender, to manually reactivate the data, but i have to reboot and that's annoying. Any ideas?
Ah, WiFi works properly and so does bluetooth. Thanks.
Hold 'Power' button and activate 'Data Network Mode' if available.

I don't have that option.
so you disable and uninstall Juice Defender, then reboot, and it still does this?
I haven't tried to uninstall Juice Defender but if i disable it, the network doesn't restart. The fact is that if i don't use juice defender the network doesn't go off.
Uninstall JD and then check if the problems still persists or not!

The problem disapper as soon as i disable juice defender and reboot, but i think the problem is the network doesn't turn on after a couple of times i turn it off.
So, you tried unistalling it, right?
Well, you must have checked the data network settings?
Do you have any other app that can block services like NQ Mobile Security?

So... the problem was Juice Defender lol. Unless you can reproduce the exact problem with JD uninstalled.
Don't ask why but now everything works fine..
Yeah JD is deff the problem here, that why I quit using it! It for some reason sucks on the GN. Only use I have for it now is when Im at festivals and it would prop be just as easy to enable/disable airplane mode manually.
Hi
Have a note 2 n7100X live demo. After playing around with it and a few ROMs cm10.1 seems to work well with no freezing meaning I can use it as a tablet device which is cool.
However, while battery performance is far from terrible 'mobile standby' is using up the most by far despite a live demo not being able to take a sim card etc.
So my question is this, is there any way to disable the phone feature in its entirety?
Cheers

Could you please post the battery stats?
I believe you can freeze the phone.apk file using titaniu backup.
Also, whether you tried having your phone in Airplane mode?
Because generally a phone will try searching for a SIM card and waste it's battery till it finds one. Putting in airplane mode disables the mobile networks. So, the phone won't look for SIM Card. Try this It might work.
Cheers for the reply
I can't figure how to take a screenshot of battery on cm but its at 67% for mobile standby. That's on overall 84% from 8 hours. Like I said not too bad so I can't complain too much but I wouldn't mind just disabling it to save a bit more
The thing with airplane is it kills WiFi too unless there's a way to stop that happening?

Assuming you are on 5.0.1 Lollipop, did you factory reset after the update? Many people have experienced problems after the update but have seen factory resets correct problems.
While on the wifi settings page (the screen where you find the list of wifi networks available), touch the three dots in the upper right corner and select Advanced.
Uncheck (turn off) the option to "Always allow scanning"
You can also turn off the first option of Network notification to stop it from trying to find open networks in range.
hope this helps.

Thanks for the response,
I am on 5.0.1, I did factory reset twice, Cleaned cache multiple times

Funny thing is , I put the phone in Airplane mode (wifi off too) for a while and battery graph still shows WiFi on and phone awake

Weird... mine does.
Are you running any special apps (like battery savers)? What Wifi settings are you using? Is Power Saving Mode on or off?
I'm curious now. But yeah, several Note 4 users on the non-ATT Note 4 thread are reporting this issue as well and so were many Nexus users.

No battery savers or apps designed to conserve battery; power saving modes off. All I did to wifi settings was turn off scanning and notification. I have a long list of apps that I disabled since I knew for sure I wasn't going to use them. I screenshot them below if you're interested.

Ok I was wrong. My phone doesn't show wifi always on. I kept wifi off all day and it showed correctly. BUT I think it did show as always awake on the previous Lollipop update. (I'm on COC4 now).
And btw, I have all the same apps turned off as you except Samsung Push Service because it seems to not sync S Note with my Samsung account (I have a Note tablet too) and Amazon because I use it.
Update
I did some further digging , based on the amount of battery used.
1. Cerberus App was using a lot of battery, so uninstalled and re-installed it... the Constant AWAKE problem is gone
waiting a few days to make sure that problem was really gone
2. Uninstalled "LLAMA" app and now WiFi does NOT show as always on
Having the exact same issue on my galaxy s6. Just turned on clash after picking up the phone and the resolution looks like as compared to my joke Moto X (2013). It's worst when zoomed way out and fine when zoomed way in. Maggie everywhere. What the **** supercell.
