During the process of flashing various kernels from netarchy and kingklick my EVO stopped being able to access the SD card while it is charging with a wall charger. There are no options I can find to switch it out of disk mode like I can while it is connected to a computer. While I am connected to the computer I can switch it from disk mode and my SD card becomes available.
I have tried several new kernels with both caches wiped without any luck solving the problem. This is not serious enough for me to do a complete wipe.
Anyone else experience this problem? Any suggestions short of a full wipe?

Have you attempted using a nandroid back to your original kernel?

No I have not, partly because I cannot say for sure when I made the nandroid if I was having this problem or not. I usually charge while connected to a computer or if I am charging with a wall charger, I usually am not using the phone. Therefore, it is likely I had this problem long before I noticed it.
Thanks for your suggestion!

I would try to find the stock kernel to see if it effects it. With Cyanogen however I have noticed that depending on the charger I use the phone either just charges or acts as if its plugged into a computer. The only varying piece of hardware is the cable in my case. So you may also want to try different cables. I have no clue why this would act in that way though.

Have you tried plugging it to your PC and switching it back a forth between Disc Drive mode and Charge Only mode?
That solved the issue on my Desire.
1) I have cm7
2) I downloaded Kernel Manager and downloaded and flashed the latest Tiamat kernel.
After that, my battery will not charge. I have an all in one charger that I can use in my car or plug into an outlet (from Sprint). When I plug in the charger, a light comes on so that I know it's plugged in. However, when I plug it into my phone it won't charge AND it turns off the light on the charger. Luckily I have a coworker that has an EVO and my charger works just fine with his phone.
I've rebooted several times, which is killing my battery. I tried to just flash a new kernel, but now I kept getting errors that flashed too quickly for me to read. I thought, Hey I'll uninstall and re-install. So I uninstalled and tried to open the Market and now I'm getting network errors and can't connect through anything. I'm down to 37% so I can't flash the new cm7.1.
Yes, I'm a n00b but I have researched and Googled and I can't find anyone with the same problem. Feel free to tell me to throw my phone out the window, but I'd really appreciate some help. Even if it's "Take out your SD card and flash cm7.1 when you get home."
TIA.
*EDIT: Thanks for everyone's help. It looks like it is a hardware problem (bad pins). I went back to stock and unrooted so Sprint can fix it/give me a new phone.
Have you taken out the battery, and let it sit out for maybe a good solid minute, then try to charge? it worked for me on the random time it happened, and make sure its plugged into a wall outlet, not a usb port, ect.

I'm defintely just using my wall/car charger since my usb cable is at home.
I left it out for two minutes and I still have the same problem.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Well first try letting the battery cool down just turn off your phone for like 15 min. And see if that works.
If that dont work try this and since you use kernel manager try this.
1.go into the settings of kernel manager and turn off the setting for auto flashing.
2.download the godmode kernel towards the bottom of the list.
3.steel your friends battery with his permission since your running out.
4.boot into recovery and wipe cache/dalvik.
5.(now I take it your in clockwork and not amon since you running cm7 so I'm not sure what you click to do this since unused amon) but go to flash a zip from SD card and look for a folder on the root of your SD called kernel-manager then go to the toastcfh folder and flash the godmode-v9 zip that's in there. Its a great kernel the was made for use with cm7 + all other aosp so it should work. Post your results if it did or didn't work

Did you make a backup before flashing? If so, flash the nandroid and reflash the kernel.
Also, try downloading the kernel to your computer from its respective website, transfer it to your phone, then flash.

What I would try is download the kernel from the dev section [could have gotten a bad flash], then try that.
Also, try another battery in your evo, like you co-workers, because you battery could be super drained and it'll have to be jumped at a sprint store; or leave in on the charger for a few hours and see if it turns on.

I did not backup because I am stupid and was having trouble trying to flash it in recovery (my power button wasn't working as "select", it was just turning my screen off). But I have titanium back up and I didn't flash cm7 so long ago that I would mind flashing the nandroid or a new ROM.
I can't flash right now because my battery is now a very sad 22% and I'm pretty sure my coworker isn't going to lend me his battery. I also don't have my data cable with me so I can't do anything between my phone and computer until I get home.
This is really ****ing with my happy hour plans.

I'm going to try leaving it on the charger to see if it is just the light that is going bonkers with my phone. While the phone was off (after pulling the battery for 10-15 minutes), I plugged in the phone and it turned it on. That's a good sign that it recognized the charger, right?
My coworker isn't going to let me use his battery.

I turned WiMax on for a sec and at least the network started working for me. I installed Kernel Manager again and downloaded Godmode. Of course, I turned WiMax back off.
I was sitting here plugged in for 10 minutes at 17%.
I guess my coworker didn't get my hints, but when I flat out asked him, he is letting me charge my battery in his phone, which is working. You boys ...

Well at least you got it, and being blunt wins again.
I will post when I try your method, though I'm worried I'm going to have the same problem with my Power button not working like a Select button. It's incredibly nerve racking when your screen just powers off.
Thanks for all the help. Don't worry, I'm hitting the Thanks button, too.

So after my coworker let me charge my battery enough to make it to the Sprint store, they charged it up to about 70% and I wiped and flashed GodMode. All better! It got stuck in a boot loop so i had to reboot but then it was fine. Thank you!
Completely unrelated, but now Launcher Pro Plus is throwing an error and force closing upon start up.

Glad you got it working, and is it just lagging, like not swiping when moving screens or opening the app drawer? if so lock the device, wait a second, then unlock again. Also check your minimum frequency.

It's just whenever I boot up my phone, the very first time it just doesn't work and force closes. As long as I don't turn off my phone, it's fine (mabe a bit laggy, but that's it).
So now that i have been home, my data cable charges my phone just fine (though, it did take longer than usual). I'm at work again, and my charger still doesn't charge my phone! It charges my coworker's phone but not mine. SO WEIRD!

That occasionally happens, where it may take launcher pro an extra minute to load, make sure its on the internal memory to make it the fastest.
And that is weird, I would have suggest you may have been using a bad outlet or cable, but no reason for it to charge one phone and not the other. Its possible you could have a bad usb port, so I'd take it to sprint and see what they say.
So I took it to Sprint and they say I need to go back to stock and unRoot before they will work on my phone. :/
They tried different wall chargers and none work, but USB cables work as long as they are plugged into a computer or AC adapter.
Do I try flashing a different ROM? do I restore my NAND backup from before I rooted? Do I just rely on my data cable to charge my phone and deal with it? UGH.
And now I will never know if i messed my phone up with the kernel flashing business or if it was a true hardware problem.

I think it may be hardware. I only use the data cable via usb, or use the adapter for the wall outlet, and never had a problem.
What's your current setup? You can always change kernels, and if you wana unroot, shoot me a pm and I'll fix ya up.
Hi guys, a few days ago I transferred all my music onto my new One X from my laptop manually, in USB storage mode (can't remember the exact name but it wasn't using HTC Sync) and that was fine, I turned off my laptop and for the next day and a half I had no problems listening to music etc.
I think at some point I connected my phone again, just to charge, and chose the "charge only" setting. Then yesterday I tried to access my music and I got the error message "Your content is unavailable because your phone is being used as USB storage. Disconnect USB to access your content." I went back into "connect to PC" but the default connection was set to "charge only". I cannot access notes, as it tells me "please insert an SD card" and when I try to view my photos I get "SD card unmounted". Obviously there is no SD card/slot so it seems like my phone's internal memory has vanished. I haven't lost any apps, but when I go to Settings -> storage, my total space is 2.11GB with 1.77GB available.
I tried using HTC Sync instead but the program tells me "You have connected a device with no storage card." I don't know what to do!
Please help!
Thank you so much in advance,
Lindsay
Disconnect phone from pc. Set USB connection to charge only before disconnecting. Go to menu storage. Under phone storage see if it is detected. If not reboot your phone.

had this happen a couple of days back. My phone started to lag to the point it was unusable (slower than the G1).
When i went to play a movie or audiobook it said the card wasnt mounted. I ended up factory resetting the machine and after that its been fine (so far).
Like you i could only get the charge only symbol on the phone when connected.
Im pretty sure it was a software bug as a factory reset solved the problem and i didnt lose any data (such as music and movies etc). i had to re download all my apps, i miss titanium back up lol.

Thanks for the replies. I already had my phone set to charge only when I disconnected it, and it is still set to this. I tried rebooting but when I go to storage it still says 2.11GB, and under phone memory - "unavailable".
Yeah I have that too, when I plug in my phone now I don't have the option to use it as a USB storage device, I only have charge only or the 3 ones listed underneath. Is doing a factory reset the only option?
If you hold the power button down for 10 seconds it`s the equivalent of a battery pull.

My phone has some kind of short in it and only boots up for 45 seconds or so. I have like 5 gigs of stuff i need to pull off the phone before i send it back for a replacement. Now pulling 5 gigs off in 45sec intervals is not an option that i want to pursue. However i can drop to the recovery menu and idle there as long as i like. Does anyone have any ways on how to use the recovery menu to pull data from? I would probably need to install something that would allow me to copy stuff from my phone to a sd card in that menu, but i have been out of the loop since att decided to lock this bootloader. Any help would be appreciated. I already tried a different battery and wiping the cache.
Thanks in advance.

Will the phone stay on while it's plugged in?
Nope, just in the recovery menu.
I'm not sure if this will work since I've never seen that problem before. I've heard there is a "safe mode" on these phones. Maybe it'll work. Here's a link I found. Let us know if you try it.

Just tried that too, no dice...i think that fires up to much of the phones processor and gets to warm and reboots Thanks for that alternate solution... im not looking forward to using this bottle of 99.9% iso alcohol either :\
soaked it in alcohol for 2 hours...didn't help... i guess you need to scrub the mineral deposits(chlorine) off the boards for that to work
Have you tried adb pull? I don't think this phone has fastboot enabled... Can you see it with adb or kies?
lol...masked off the phone and spray painted the water indicator white and returned it..
Hello,
I did the software update to my phone last week. My charging port makes it difficult to hold a charge so I normally keep phone in PSM. I saw the option for UPSM and so I did it. Now my phone has VERY limited functions. I can't access any of my apps except for Messaging, Google and Settings. Settings is very limited.
Troubleshooting thus far:
1. Battery out and restarted
2. Samsung Support
3. Best Buy Support
4. Clear Cache
5. Safe Mode
6. USB isn't recognized
I know it is a long shot but I (yes I know I should have backed up the photos) but I have graduation, etc etc on there.
Thanks in advance
Can you borrow a fully charged battery from someone and then try to get the phone out of UPSM? Do you have an external battery charger?

I can charge the phone all the way to 100% and the first time I did that I took the battery out and restarted the phone. I was able to see EVERYTHING for 30 seconds. I even went straight to "battery" under settings and tried to turn off UPSM but it showed it wasn't on. Usually takes a few seconds to turn back on, so that didn't work.
I am just desperate to get those photos. When I plug in the USB, it says USB isn't available in UPSM.
Thank you for your help!

What do you mean your charging port makes it difficult to hold a charge?
Do you have an external sd card?
Are you still under warranty? If not there may be an easy solution.

I was told about a month ago that I should have the charging port replaced because it was the reason the phone took so long to charge.

Unfortunately, no I am not able to do so. When the phone is in UPSM you can't use the USB unless it is for charging!
