Have tried a few kernels for france based roms and haven't been able to use the camera at all with them. Sick kernel seems to be the only thing that works.
Are there any that work, AOSP or sense?

Only stock kernels work with the new camera añd net 4.2.1 cfs bfs havs more smartass work but camera flash doesn't work.

My buddy has an 0004 that I rooted for him and the Ziggy kernels seemed to work okay. I think it really just depends on the phone really. I know the new hardware gives limitations but we have to remember not all phones are created equal.
Sense. Sorry, swype isn't perfect. I've tried ziggy but if boot looped. I tried the recommended kernel from MS but the camera didn't work.

This might be crazy but is it possible for an app to scan your evo (or whatever android phone you have) to see what kernal would work best for your phone like netarchy or ziggy or king?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
No, and keep in mind, if you want to try an "older" kernel than what ships with 3.70.xxx.x you could possibly run into wakelock issues, camera issues, etc. Too many reports of this happening to be experimenting unless that's your "thing". I need my phone to work 100%, all the time, every time.
If you're on 3.29.xxx.x or 3.30.xxx.x based roms, you can try most any kernels and see which perform best.
***UNLESS you have hardware v 004 and then supposedly if you will run into camera issues.
So, IF you're using a 3.70.xxx.x based rom, wait until the dev's get the source for the new kernel series and mod them up for you.
Thats a great idea for a app.

There's a lot of kernels emphazing in battery conservation, my question is, are their any kernels where the performance is the objective, like speed and smoothness?

For sense roms try out netarchys/toast kernel bfs with out havs, for aosp you could try snap turbo its super fast on cm6.

Edit; I forgot to add make sure if you have the new 0004 hardware like I do make sure the kernel supports the camera driver or it won't work.

They are all built for what you ask for. The battery thing your seeing a lot of is just an add benefit for the already built kernels. I use Netarchy's 4.2 kernels as they seem to be best for speed and battery.

You can use Netarchy's beta 4.3 and your camera will be fine. You can get the stock HTC kernel #15 with that SBC battery bit. Your choice. I think you would like Net's 4.3 IMO.

I went to the netarchy thread but there's like ten different 4.3 versions (SBC, no SBC bfs, SBC cfs) what would be the smoothest?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm 0004 also my phone happen to like his cfs kernels I'm using the less havs with sbc must say battery life is getting better. The first few days are horrible with battery life but it adjust to your usage.

Swyped From Eva Running Myn's RLS4.95 or My Rom!
I suggest to start out with Net's netarchytoastmod-4.3-cfs-nohavs-noUV-nosbc-universal (No Undervolting).
This is always the best way to start off. No undervolting, no havs, and CFS usually plays nicer than BFS with most evos.
Use for a few days, and then try the less aggressive UV kernel to see the comparison to nohavs.
Then use that a few days and try the aggressive UV kernel to see how your device likes it.
Then ... you get the idea!
Only way to find what works best for your device is trial and error.
Have fun!
ps. I am still using the CFS-noUV-noHAVS-noSBC with great results. No need for me to undervolt.
yeah its all trial and error... what will work for your evo might not work for mine and so on.
Check out my guide, it may help you out.

I'm running CM7 and I'm not liking this kernel too much and I was trying to figure out what kernel other CM7 users were running. And the different advantages to the different kernels. I'm kinda new to all this mod stuff so I was just looking for some insight.

ya know this has been talked about many times, a search would yield you an answer.
The only kernel I really see popular with cm7 is savagedzen

dang.. can't wait! his jan 21 that's included in Warm Z blows my usual kernel out of the water! (lou's #6)
Patience grasshoppers. Ziggy plans on releasing them this weekend after the testers give him feedback.

BTW, it's been released. 3/12/11 is available.
Running BFS/HAVS currently, will be posting updates later.
Are these new beta kernels for sense? Are they always for sense? Haven't found a difinitive answer yet. Thanks!

unlike others', ziggy's kernels are universal i.e. they work on both sense and aosp roms - i have been running them on all my roms except cm7. ziggy has not yet made a gb kernel.

If I flash one of his kernels, do I need to wipe/reformat my SD card? I'm running MIUI, so I'm curious what I need to do and if there's any special instructions to follow. Currently, I'm running Tiamat's 2.1.5.

What about running SetCPU with an screen off profile, is it recommended with Ziggy's Kernals?

Can if you want, but if all you're going to do is set a screen off profile there's no need. His kernels are amazing for overclocking though.

Not only are they awesome for OCing but running a mild OC (1 notch above standard), with the min set to 128 I'm getting better battery life then the ever popular Lou's #8. YMMV
I'll try out the new ones here soon, I"m running the one form 1/22 I think.
Ziggys kernels never worked well on my DINC, but these latest ones are SWEET. Noticeably snappier than Lous #8.
Guys,
I am having a heck of a time finding a Kernel for 2.1 stock rooted Ginger. I am currently running JCase's Gingerbread Kernel but it doesnt give UV options. Any opinions or links.
Zax10
If you're running Gingerbread, you're running 2.3, so look for kernels made for Gingerbread/2.3, not 2.1.

He's talking about sense 2.1, eclair for this phone doesn't exist.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
As far as I know, jcase has the only publicly available oc kernel for stock 2.3, but it isn't uv/compatible with incredicontrol. What I mean by that is most of the roms have a custom kernel, but you can't just flash it on another rom. Unless you hark apart the .zip, and even then I can't garuntee it would work.
Sent from my Incredible Sensation using XDA App
I'm looking for same even though I don't fully understand UV vs. UC. Does this squeeze out a little more battery life when you do both? SetCPU is good so far.
