[Q] What should I do now after Unrevoked Root failed? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to root my gf's evo today using Unrevoked and it failed and now it wont boot into recovery. It will boot up into the stock rom.
What is my next step?
Phone as it sits right now.
S-On
HBOOT 2.10
Radio 2.15.00.11.19
Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately unrevoked3 right now does not root the new EVOs with HBOOT 2.02/2.10 right now but the dev team is currently working on a solution for it.
You need to follow this root method if you want to root your HBOOT 2.10 EVO.
[ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - The Savior Edition - Upd. 12.26.10

Thanks a lot that worked. It wasn't as easy as my first evo but it worked.
Thanks again.

Which HBOOT version are you running? Also just FYI Unrevoked 2.1 is NOT the latest version -.- This could be why you are having issues.
If you are on a NON 2.02 HBOOT version, ie: 0.93.000 etc use this:

What hboot version do you have?
running 2.02 hboot and i was running the original root and files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765496 to get me to the amon ra root. Just getting REALLY frustrating. am i going to have to download new files and everything? now another thing to mention might be that i am getting the error screen that has a phone with a phone and a red triangle and exclamation point when i try to tap into the recovery screen from hboot menu.
lol,sorry man,EVO_Tech needs technical assistance.
Now i could root my bros evo he has 0.93.0000 radio 2.15.00.07.28 android 2.2

Help rooting evo

Hey folks.Im trying to root my buddys evo and want to make sure i have everything in order before i go forward..
hboot is version 0.97
software 3.29.651.5
so im hoping i can just use the unrevoked forever to root his phone. Is this correct? It says i need a custom recovery how do i make a custom recovery so i can use the unrevoked forever?
Unrevoked Forever does not root, unrevoked3 does.
Since his HBOOT is 0.97, then yes you can use unrevoked3 to root.
[ROOT] unrEVOked 3.21: one-click root for Froyo, no downgrading
[GUIDE] One Click How to Root EVO with Unrevoked 3.21 *NEW EVO'S WONT WORK 11.16.10*
Ok..thanks for the help.I installed unrevoked3 and it finished.I have the superuser icon also.BUT if i open hboot it still says s-on? Im confused about that.It looks like i got root but why is it saying S-on in hboot?
If anyone else has this same problem, here is what i did to get s-off.
After you use the unrevoked3 you now have ClockworkMod Recovery.Go download the Unrevoked Forever and put it on the root of you sd card. Now restart your phone in Hboot and go to recovery. When your in ClockworkMod Recovery you will see install zip from sd card, click.Find the Unrevoked Forever you just put on your sd card and run it.After it is finished you should now have S-Off .
Wooot!!

Rooting help

OK so my evo has the 2.10 bootloader and software version 3.70. 651.1. I tried using the Z4root method to temporarily root then flash Unrevoked Forever but hit a snag. Though the temp root works and I flashed clockworkmod and Ra recoveries, when I try to boot into recovery to flash Unrevoked Forever I just get the phone with the red triangle and exclamation mark. I'm assuming this has to do with having the newest bootloader from the latest ota but any guidance would be appreciated.
dont use z4root for the 2.10 bootloader...not a fool proof method of rooting...you need to return your evo back to stock by downloading a ruu from this site and plugging your evo into the computer and boot into boot loader and run whtat you downloaded on your desktop ....http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Supersonic
once you have the evo returned to stock, use this root method to root hboot 2.10
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
this by far is the best method to root hboot 2.10
What is the point of running the Ruu? Would running an older ruu change the hboot back or leave it as-is?
Running the ruu that came with your phone will return your phone back to stock out of the box so you have a clean slate to use the root guide I gave you a link to...the root guide I gave u is the only reliable method for hboot 2.10
The reason you are having problems rooting with unrevoked is because unrevoked does not work with hboot 2.02 or 2.10
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I was rooted on 3.29 and unrooted so I could install the OTA 3.70. Unfortunately, hboot still shows S-OFF, so now I can't root or unroot. Will flashing the stock 3.70 RUU flip S-OFF back to S-ON so I can root again?
In order for you to switch between s on and s off google search unrevoked forever and use their tool to toggle s on and s off
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I had 2.02 hboot then I rooted and then derooted bc of issues. I noticed my hboot changed to 2.10. I followed the savior method and use z4root and all is well. I had zero issues.

I tried unrevoked-forever-son.zip, but it looks like it runs from recovery, which I can't get into. When I try, I get the red exclamation point and can only get out with the volume up and power buttons.

since your on 2.3.5 you most likely have hboot 2.18. Your root method is going to be HTCdev.com. After you s-on unlocked with HTC dev you can either downgrade to a earlier version like froyo or GB and root with unrevoked or revolutionary or you can stay s-on unlocked but lose out on certain things because you wont be fully NAND unlocked(s-off) just unlocked s-on

I would rather use revolutionary as I've rooted a few other people's evo's with that method and it went fairly smooth. What im confused about is the hboot. I have to get the hboot to atleast 2.16.0001 and simply flashing a GB rom won't do that right? So do I need to find the radio thread and find an hboot file and can I even downgrade the hboot from 2.18 to 2.16 in order to use revolutionary to obtain s-off so that i can go back to what i was used to?

Simply flashing a rom wont affect radios ect. With S-on unlocked you CANT flash radios or hboots so you have to do a certain process in order to downgrade. You have to follow these steps exactly in order to downgrade. http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...18-HBOOT-with-HTCDev-com-No-More-Watermark!-)

I have it to where it is currently running Froyo. I followed all of the instructions. I'm not trying to root it using unrevoked as after downgrading, the root access was taken away. The unrevoked app pushes the recovery and sits at a status of "installing unrevoked3 service..." and never finishes. That's where i'm stuck at. I'm not new to rooting, just didn't have to go about it this way the last time. If unrevoked keeps failing, then I will give revolutionary a try if it supports froyo.

What you need to do is google the RUU for the .93 hboot. What I would recommend since I am most familiar [and easiest method] is to search for the radios thread in the dev section > flash the 2.10 hboot. After you flash the hboot, go to the unrevoked site > flash the s-on zip in recovery. Verify in your bootloader that it is s-on > afterwards, track down the 3.70 RUU [appropriate for that bootloader] > name it PC36IMG.zip > flash in bootloader. If you can't find the RUU, let me know; I have it on my dropbox.
Thank you for the reply! One question, if they won't swap it out, will it be difficult to reroot?

No it won't since its the 2.10 bootloader, you just need to run the unrevoked program, after enabling usb debugging, installing the unrevoked drivers. One of the easiest rooting methods. Just DO NOT take any firmware updates after you unroot.
Just flash a stock rooted ROM of latest ota...delete superuser apk make sure you have the sprint bootani and splash screen...as long as they dont get into bootloader menu you are golden....worked for me they didnt have a clue i was rooted...got home put custom bootani and splashscreen back on dl superuser again no harm no foul

Yes you can do that, though I've seen plenty of users do that and the service rep check the bootloader, then have their account flagged because of it.

For unrEVOked, the bootloader version doesn't matter - it's the Baseband version that needs to be supported. Upgrading HBOOT won't make the unrEVOked S-ON zip work.
I recommend flashing the 2.15.00.11.19 Radio from Calk's Radio thread. Then the unrevoked S-ON zip will work, and finally an RUU can be run, or PC36IMG.zip flashed in bootloader for the stock unrooted ROM version of choice.
