Open up the Package Manager in your Android SDK directory and make sure you have tools checked.
(iirc, I don't have the SDK on this specific machine)
There's no reason you shouldn't be able to get ADB.

I'll keep this short, but the two important steps that really help all of this is:
A: Download the Adroid SDK into ANY directory you want to.
B: In the Android SDK installation instructions page, it mentions a step to add the path to your ADB executable to your PATH environment variable on your computer. Do this so you can use ADB from any folder on your computer, and not have to worry about always running it from the folder you downloaded it to.

[Q] G2 Vision! What will I need to (safely!) root, nandroid backup, and flash a ROM?

So, I've got myself the amazing G2, and I'm loving it to bits. But, I was browsing around and saw that a DEV was able to port the Desire Z's ROM to a G2, and I love me some sense. I want to be able to get that sense-filled-goodness on my G2, but doing it so safely. I really don't feel like sending my phone in to get replaced. I've never bricked a phone before, and I wanna keep it that way. So, can anyone give me some step by step instructions on how to complete a ROM flash? It would be much appreciated. thank you!

is a nice ROM too
Now, explain ABD and SDK in laymens terms? And is this proceedure safe?
Well. I really can't explain sdk and adb. It allows your computer to communicate with your phone, which is needed to run many commands. The commands you input in terminal emulator can also be entered to your phone using the command prompt of your computer.
It was ***** for me to learn how to use on my computer but after many youtube videos and question was able to get it running.

i say if you have a computer, its easier and faster..just let me know what steps you are stuck in..as to download the files ill show you what to download.
Xologist just posted a root for supernoobs in the dev section which basically runs all necessary commands from a batch file with little user intervention, try that.

[Q] Rooting my phone....

I just got my G2 phone not too long ago and I want to start doing this modding stuff. (I've never had a smart phone before, this is the first). And I'm not sure where to start... Can someone direct me into the right direction?
I used blackprince310's video to help me root my phone.

Once rooting you can download other ROMS. Which are like differnt OS. Like g2 runs stock froyo let's call that windows xp. When you root it u have the capabilities to modifiy without problem. Now u can put like sense on your phone that's like windows 7 persay.
Three main apps u need from app store are ROM Manager, Titanium Backup, & Superuser. Other ones could be gscript, terminal. & in video u need Visonary.

Is there an alternate way? Because I had been doing some reading on ppls feedback on diff threads n the visionary way seems to be a way to brick your phone or an unsafe way to go.
can anyone please help?
Goto development and find the stickies on rooting without visionary, I did it that way. Simple and haggle free and nothing to worry about, first time g2 user

Just follow the simple wiki guides. Don't use Visionary to perm root.
Youtube the unlockr for htc vision. You use the VISIONary app to temproot, then you can gain permroot after finishing both tutorials. They're very clear and concise tutorials, I actually followed it a few months ago knowing absolutely nothing about root or adb.

Use rage.
Visionary used to be a one click root app. However, it caused problems for some users. The unlockr corrected the issue in the tutorial. You will first gain temproot through visionary, copy files and run some adb commands via desktop, then gain permroot and s-off again through visionary. Its really easy, all you have to do is copy him. I did it myself in november and my phone still runs flawlessly.

I don't see anything on Youtube bout "unlockr"

If you use Rage (the method I linked to earlier), you won't need to downgrade. Just type in the commands using ADB and Terminal Emulator and flash ClockworkMod Recovery through ROM Manager and you're good to go.
See I want to do it thatf way but I can't figure out ADB I'm stuck at one part at on that noob guide. :/ I can't figure out how to use the cd command to go to the file wwith adb on it which is on my desktop ....(using the fast method for windows xp). Then I tried the other way and I could never get the path part right.

If you haven't already figured out the adb problem, no, you don't have to downgrade to use the other method. But then, I don't know what would happen if you switch from one rooting method to another. Especially when you're right in the middle of it xP

[Q] unlocking bootloader using linux(fedora)? help

okay ive looked around and havent found anything regarding this topic.
im trying to unlock bootloader and root my htc one v (cdma) using the only computer i have avaliable, and it just so happens it runs fedora. im no noob to the rooting world, just new to it using linux. ive never had a problem using htcdev.com, but the instructions to unlock bootloader mainly refer to windows users.
Can someone please walk me through this process for linux users like me?
I've already got the files i need (android-sdk_r21.0.1-linux.tgz and fastboot.zip)
now how do i use the terminal? (as dos is to windows)
I think all you need is adb setup

Details please. Got the files htcdev told me I needed, just am clueless how to use terminal. Or is there other way to go about it? (one click unlock/root for linux?) Step by step guide would be appreciative
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/HOWTO_Setup_Android_Development
that looks like it will do the trick for you. if you dont plan on making android apps, skip the part about installing eclipse. your main focus is the android sdk
once you get the sdk set up, open it up and make sure to install platform-tools, fastboot comes as part of that package.
that guide doesnt seem to talk about setting up the drivers, so look here (should be distro independant, maybe)
http://esausilva.com/2010/05/13/setting-up-adbusb-drivers-for-android-devices-in-linux-ubuntu/
hope that gets you started in the right direction, i use ubuntu and havnt touched fedora in a ages
i already have tat sdk file (android-sdk_r21.0.1-linux.tgz) can find how to install the platform tools. and the sdk comes with 3 folders, yet only "tools" has 115.4mb of data in it. no where in that folder is platform tools. why is windows easier to root phone with, then a computer using linux (basically same thing as android) its impossible without serious coding skills... if it were my computer id have ununtu also... in other words no progress yet. and beginning to really dislike fedora...
