[Q] Rooting after update - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I gather the newly issued HTC update will prevent rooting via any "cage" derived exploit. Is there a procedure to downgrade to a rootable ROM (will some of the posted RRU's work)?
I ask because I should be getting an HD in January and am concerned it could come pre-loaded with the update.
Martin

Not yet. In 1-2 weeks maybe

So the RUUs in the Files thread won't downgrade the kernel? (Which I assume is where the problem lies)

No problems on Froyo OTA with debranded Orange France

Hi all,
Since the last OTA created plenty of problems to debranded Orange owners, I just wanted to let everybody know that I did install the OTA and did not find any problem so far.... everything went smoothly in updating OTA from the latest RUU update. No need for gold cards or complicated procedures

Can I ask which method did you use to originally debrand your phone? Which rome did you flash to?
The 405 RUU that had been posted around may on these forums... see here for a full list:
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
Very easy, all you need is to make a gold card. Things get slightly more messy if you are not a Windows user.

for my own device :
It was Orange France 1.22 ROM;
I rooted my device with UnrEVOked;
Then I use the downgrade method that uses fake ROM version reporting to RUU;
Installed full Europe_1.15 HTC ROM;
And install all OTA updates, as when asked.
Note : I alway have my gold card in it, and I never got any trouble.
Thanks. I dont want to root my phone just debrand it to receive OTA`s directly from HTc and not wait for carrier specific.
Question: is it safer to flash it to 1.15 and then do OTA to 1.21 and Froyo or flash directly with 1.21?
Directly 1.21, if I did not screw up version numbers it was the jump from 1.15 to 1.21 that created the problem when done in OTA (WiFi module could not be loaded correctly)

Rooting method for new OTA upgraded Desire Z? anyone?

Its been a while now......... but has anyone come up with the method/procedure for the rooting of Desire Z with the latest OTA update? Bought mine approx 2 weeks ago and it is 1.82.709.1, have read thru the forum and seems downgrade to 1.34 is the only method for rooting and S-Off! However, I figure since many customs ROMs' (CyanogenMod-7,Virtuous)by developers are already rooted, why is it that no one has yet develop a rooting procedure?

[Q] I wanna get root on my Desire Z 1.75 OTA

Last night, I bought a new HTC Desire Z. After that, I received a notification said that there's a software update, its version is 1.75. So I updated is through wifi and now it's running version 1.75. I've read around and some people say that I must have version 1.34 or 1.72 If I want to get root.
I really want to get rood and install recovery to upgrade to custom roms. Anybody help me how to downgrade or the new way to get root on my phone?
Thanks all for reading.
Could you go to about phone and see if your running Android 2.3.3?

[Q] Installed an official 1.34 ruu but my phone can't find an update

Hi everyone, this is my first post, I bought my friends desire z, and found out that it has eng hboot and s-off.
So I flashed the official 1.34.707.3 ruu found in one of the threads thinking that it would restore it to stock with s-on.
Eng hboot is gone but I still have s-off. The thing is the phone is not prompting me for an OTA, even by manually checking for it in the about phone setting.
Will s-off prevent me from receiving ota? I was thinking it should immediately prompt me for an update seeing that the latest firmware is 1.82...
Please help thanks.
Download the ruu.exe ,or ota in lucky .

Even after flashing the RUU from HTC I still have s-off... I was not the one who rooted the device, It was like that when I bought it from my friend.
My biggest problem is that the phone cannot find the update which I think it should, seeing that the firmware is several months old and that a few updates have already rolled out. In other words, a 1.34 firmware should immediately find an update to a higher version.
Could there be a compatibility problem as I do not know the original rom that the phone came with and I just chose a WWE asian firmware since I am from the Philippines.
Amazing!! Ever heard of google? Or asking what original firmware is or rom? Heard of htc support?
Sheesh

Hello guys
My friends DHD had mainboard changed (warranty) but now he is not able to receive even gingerbread update. so the guy has to stick with Froyo for now. He does not want to get root just the the regular updates
At software menu it says that phone is up to date haha
Any suggestions?
is it possible to force an update? (if it is not getting gingerbread so I doubt that he gets ICS later on)
Regards

What is your friends firmware version? Not android version, but the HTC Firmware.
Should look something like. x.xx.xxx.x - e.g. 1.32.405.6
Software version 2.50.405.2
Kernel 2.6.35.10
Baseband 12.54.60.25U_24.09.04.11
Hope will do any help
Anyhow the question is if (even phone is rooted) it is possible to apply updates without changing ROM?
I have rooted my phone and already tried a bunch of ROMs (currently using Revolution HD 6.3.1) but thats not for my friend. As she wants to have regular HTC rom and get updated version of software.
thanks again
If your looking for a fairly clean rom try leedroids he only works with official releases...there's a list in the Dec section of purely stock Roms bit just rooted I'd go there..If its a lady I'd try the bliss Roms they were designed for the woman apparently lol

thanks arknailed7754 for your post
though my main question still remains if it is possible to force update to original rom. (rooting is not a problem)
regards
Froyo was 2.2..gingerbread started at 2.3 so he's over the original release..I think you can apply the update through adb..with an official ruu. I'm not as knowledgeable as some on here but that's how you can push the phone to the new update..the official are also in Dec section..there's probably a guide in there if you need help applying,surprised he can update though HTC released the official sense 3.0 etc last year q4.
As I said I might be talking out of my ass but go to Do a search in Google with your keywords its in there..

If your unrooted & don't want root, just want to update to the latest firmware then download the RUU in this post -->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22871910&postcount=33
Before you run it, make sure you've got HTC Sync installed (for the USB drivers).
Your current firmware is a WWE x.xx.405.x and matches that of the update posted 3.12.405.1. You should update with no issues. It will however wipe your device, so make sure you backup what you can before you run the RUU.
Thanks for your help.
Will try as soon as get my hends on friends phone.
Will post results.
Thanks again

I had the same problem with my DHD. Whenever I connected to WiFi, I never got the update. What I did was when I connected my DHD to PC, I selected "Internet Passthrough". And voila, I got a message a few minutes later that an update to Gingerbread is available. Try this and I hope this will resolve the problem.
