Ok I decided to finally root and followed every single step necessary. Did all the steps, including the pre root. Everything was going good. Was running Unrevoked and following all the steps as they appeared. On the Unrevoked screen on my cpu, it said it was Done. But on the phone, I got this:
Clockwork Recovery v.2.5.0.1
- reboot system now
-apply sdcard:update.zip
-wipe data factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-nandroid
-partitions menu
-advanced
SD card mounted
Installing Data:local/unrevoked-forever.zip
Installing update
unRevoked forever S-Off patch v1.1
Verifying system type...
E:unsupported radio version
E: update failed. Check sdcard/soff.log
E: error in data/local.unrevoked-forever.zip (status 42)
Installation aborted
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to sdcard/clockwork/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.
And there's a triangle with a yellow exclamation point in the middle of the screen. I am brand new to this and have no idea what's going on.
Thanks to anyone who can guide me through this!!!
What version do you have ? hopefully 3.30 or lower. does it boot back where you can actually use the phone. Happen to Me yesterday as well, make sure you install latest drivers,if you can boot back up downloadclockword and install recovery. You should be able to start flashing Roms, start with myns.
Unrevoked does not have an easy root method for 3.30+, only for 3.29-. There is a manual way to root your phone if you have 3.30+ with hboot 2.02+. Look in the Evo Developer section for that thread. I would post it but I'm writing this thru my Evo. Also let us know what version you have and hboot version.

It doesnt say that in Amon Ra. I had the same "problem" and wasnt sure on my first radio-flash if it was a good idea to reboot, because everyone kept telling me, that I mustn't touch the phone until its finished - but Amon RA never actually tells you that it finished a radio flash, it just stops in recovery, where you have to hit 'reboot'. (I always wait another 2 mins or so after clearing cache is done, just to be save)
ususally it will have an information that the flashing has completed than it would finish the installation when you hit the reboot now menu

if u've pressed "reboot system now" in recovery, just waiting for reboot, it's ok.
Ok here's the scenerio:
I have a rooted myTouch 3g Slide with S-On still (it was my first rooting endeavor, and didn't know about S-off until rooting my vision). I had CM7-RC3 before flashing to RC4 and superuser worked fine, I was also able to run root only apps. I then had a problem with CPU Tuner keeping the phone on edge only network that I solved by doing a complete data/dalvik/battery stat wipe and factory reset.
When that was all done I attempted to install busybox and it said my device was not rooted. I went to superuser which tried and failed to update the binary, but installed the updated binary as a zip on my sd card. I went into recovery and tried to install the zip but intallation was aborted - it said the file was bad.
My question is how do I fix this, and do I need to reroot, and in the process get s-off? Please help!

I have the EODv2 Rom and I've been trying to flash the newest radio update EVO_Radio_2.15.00.05.02 and it's not working. Do I need to wipe anything before flashing? The file is in the root of my sd card but for some reason my phone stays on 2.15.00.11.19 after I flash. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks

Use Amon Ra recovery if you're using clockwork.

No actually its from this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
I actually just scrolled through the thread and it said it doesn't work with Clockwork Mod 3.0.0 but it will work with amon_ra recovery but when I installed that from the market it wouldn't work. It says you can only use this feature with VaelPak (which is the only app for the results when I searched amon_ra in the market) and is what I downloaded. It also says if you are running Vaelpak you did not allow settings root when it prompted and to purchase Rapid Reboot from the market (which I did also). So when I tried to reboot into recovery from this Rapid Reboot app (which I had to pay for) it still boots me into Clockwork Mod! UGH! some of this stuff is so frustrating!
You can install Amon Ra in hboot. Go to their webpage for instructions. Clockwork fails more than it succeeds besides downloading roms. If you flash new radios, Wimax, etc with clockwork it won't work. Learn to flash manually and with both recoveries to achieve optimum results. Here's a link for the newest radios:

Damn, hard day?
I don't think you'll be finding amonRA recovery in the market.
Go to his thread, and DL the pc36img version of amonRA 2.3. Then (as other poster said) drop it in root of sd card, and reboot. The file (recovery) is actually posted in 2 of the 3 threads above yours. Check the thread labeled "bootloop, no recovery".
But I would still go to amons thread to check the md5 on it (astro file explorer displays md5s if you need).
Also, if you're using CWM now, you're probably using rom manager as well. If so, I believe you can scroll to bottom (in rom manager) and select 'install alternate recovery'.
Good luck

Got it. Thanks so much!
Clockworkmod keeps giving me a cache recovery error and won't allow me to restore any backups, flash roms, or wipe cache. It happened to me before running stock rooted 2.3.3 and I just downloaded the stock RUU and flashed it in HBOOT. Last night I flashed CM7.1.0.1 and tiamat 1.1.4 and after it booted i rebooted into recovery to flash gapps and it booted up fine but froze after about 20 minutes. I pulled battery and it locked up on HTC boot screen. Rebooted into recovery and I got the cache recovery error again so I wiped data and redid the PG33IMG process this time with no luck. I have tried all day and it won't get past updating SPlash1
Someone please help =(
The error in clockwork 5.0.2.0
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open/cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Try pulling the battery again. Or, format the sd card.

I've probably pulled the battery around 50 lol and formatted the SD card then put only the PG32IMG on it.
I have tried everything that my phone will allow. It just will not let me install the RUU

This is still the same issue I believe. Did you by chance run Inc2 HD before this started?
Yes I ran it a few weeks ago then installed the stock ruu after the cache issue. Then I stayed on stock rooted then same cache problem after cm7 froze.

You can flash recovery image with fastboot and adb.
You may need more advanced help than I can give. I don't know if it will solve the problem or not.
Well i've tried flashing a different recovery through a PG32IMG and fastboot and nothing is working. It won't restore backup or install CM7. It says (status 1) installation aborted.

i have an evo 4g with cm 7.2 rom and tiamat sbc kernel. i wanted the original kernel so i downloaded it from this site last night and unzipped it using clockworkmod. now my phone is stuck on the htc evo 4g screen. i am new and still am unfamiliar with most of this stuff but can someone please help?
also my phone is rooted:
supersonic evt3 ship s-on
hboot-2.18.0001
microp-041f
touch panel-atmel224_16ab
radio-2.15.00.12.19
not sure if that all matters. i tried restore in clockwork recovery and it didnt change anything....still stuck.
CWM blows. Wipe cache and dalvik and flash another kernel.
thanks for the reply.
i am new. how do i do that from recovery?
i did wipe the dalvik cache. is that enough? then i tried unzipping the tiamat sbc kernel and it was still stuck.
btw....is there a better rom that supports wimax???
If possible, upgrade to a Ra based recovery. That'll make the wiping and flashing easier on your part, as far as ROM choice, I'll give you sense.
I'll just leave this here....

Thanks button
<--- that way-ish
RA refers to Amon Ra, another popular recovery for the EVO. CWM is known for being troublesome on the EVO, so RA-based recoveries are the way to go.

Flashing recoveries for dummies:
STEP 1: Download recovery of choice (smelkusmod ra recovery)
STEP 2: Rename the zip to "PC36IMG.zip" and move to root of the SD card
STEP 3: Boot to bootloader and follow the prompts to update recovery
STEP 4: reboot to recovery
STEP 5: Prosper!!
(If this doesn't go to plan, unzip the pc36img and check the txt file and change the mainver to 1.00.000.0, zip the file again, and repeat from the beginning)
Hope this does the trick
Tried it. Read that whole thread. What is fastboot? When I select it in recovery it doesn't seem to be the same as what everyone talks about. My recovery in clockelwork alternate recovery looks like the original and doesn't do anything special.

PM me and I'll help you sort this out once and for all when I get some free time.
Try this. Download the Smelkus recovery and place it on the root of your SD card (not in any folders). Rename the file PC36IMG.zip (make sure you don't have an extra .zip extension on the end or it won't work). Once this is done, turn the phone OFF and unplug your phone from your computer. Once the phone is OFF, hold down the volume DOWN button, then press the power button and wait for the HBOOT screen to load. If everything works as it should, you'll get a prompt asking you if you want to update. Use the appropriate keys to select YES, then wait for the update to load. When you go into HBOOT, as part of its loading process, it looks for a file on the SD card named PC36IMG.zip and when it finds it, will ask if you want to update. Also, make sure you don't have more than one file on your SD card named PC36IMG.zip, or you'll have issues. Once you've got the recovery loaded, you can re-namethe file on your SD card something like PC36IMG1.zip, to avoid any issues should you have to use HBOOT to install another PC36IMG.zip file down the road.
That's what I did but I did it all from my phone. Does that matter?

That's what I'm telling you to do. You can actually download the PC36IMG to your phone, but you'll have to move it to the root of your SD card using something like Astro File Manager. That's why most instructions say to hook your phone up to a PC and download the PC36IMG to the root of the SD card.
When you press the volume down button and power button, what happens?

I get what looks like the original recovery. I got cwm and flashed the alternate recovery. I tried shutting the phone down to bootloader and it will try to flash the img. Then it gets stuck on parsing. I changed the maniver and then it says no image when flashing and there's nothing about an update. I'm s-on.
