Hey all, got my DHD rooted, and am.going to s-off it, but before I do I'm wondering how I install recovery, or does it come with rooting?
Thanks

After Rooting try to S-Off (I would recommend this super easy tool ) than after you make sure your device is S-Off, install "ROM Manager".
Within Rom manager you will see you can flash Clockwork Recovery.

[Q] How to tell if it is rooted?

Hi,
I'm pretty new to all this and searched the forums quite a bit, I've rooted my device with unrevoked 3.22 but how do I tell it is really rooted? Connected to ADB I can't do "adb shell cat /proc/cmdline" while the system ist booted. It only works during recovery mode.
I received no error messages while doing the following procedure:
1) unrevoked TMO UK Branded
2) Flashed to WWE Stock Froyo
3) unrevoked Stock
Thanks
You should be rooted.
Try an app from the market that requests root. Titanium or similar.
Or, see if yoy can get into the custom recovery. Vol down + power then choose recovery. You should have the clockwork panel or equivalent.

I think I understood the point:
a) I have access to the recovery image clockwork mod (did a nandroid backup), but
b) I have a htc stock image whicht is not rooted, so Titanium Backup gives me an error message. I have to get another rooted rom.
But is it possible to do the S-OFF AlphaRev mod first, before aving a rooted rom?
Thanks
If you've made a nand backup then you should be rooted.
Do you have the superuser app in your apps drawer?
Im not too sure about your second comment.

You can not go s-off without root.
And yes your comments are contradicting.
You can't have a custom recovery or a nandroid if you have not rooted.

using unrevoked.. you should've an app called super user or something similar now. it's a nina / sniper like icon..
I have this ninja/sniper but I also get the message that Titanium Backup needs root but the permission is NOT granted!
I assume, that unrevoked worked and I have the clockwork recovery, but my rom is stock and not rooted. I will get a new rooted rom tomorrow, now its a little late to sort such a stuff out ...

[Q] [HELP] Have S-OFF but no Perm Root!

okay i used the BlackPrince210 Method to Perm Rooting my G2. found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837315
ive done everything correctly and i managed to get the S-OFF.
but when i try to run a rooted app (ex. ROM MANAGER) it tells me that im not rooted.
Any Help?
Ive managed to Get ClockWorkmod Recovery on my phone but thats it.
plz help !
Just load a custom rom on the root of your sd card, and flash it from recovery, all custom roms have root built into them. Make a nandriod back up of your current rom prior to flashing the custom rom, this also can be done from recovery.
You can find a stock rooted Tmobile rom HERE.

how to install clockwork update

How do I install a clockworkmod later version? I have v2.5 installed and v.4 is out now and I've downloaded it to PC. What next, once i get it onto my sd?
You have to be s-off. Then you are able to flash it with a flasher tool or just by a fastboot "mod" from your pc. Just use google or the search function of this forum .

So, if I'm S-On I can't update to the new version?
Either:
A)unroot and root again using custom recovery.
B)s-off and simply flash it through the fastboot.
here it is... using Terminal emulator.. the simplest method I know... Dont know whether it requires S-OFF or not but I had S-OFF..

instead of AR-recovery.. use img of CWM recovery..

[Q] Desire : Upgrading ClockworkRecovery from 2.5 to 5.0 [SOLVED]

I tried using ROM Manager to upgrade clockworkmod recovery and it now says I have 5.0.2.0 installed but when I boot into recovery the version number still reads 2.5.0.7... do i have two installed now? if so how do i get rid of 2.5 and use 5.0?
Are you s-off?

No I'm S-ON... is this why?
yes

S-OFF or you won't be able to update.
Also i'd reccomend the Android Flasher tool or fastboot commands, rather than ROM manager.
Thanks guys! I S-OFFed and now everything is good

[Q] What is needed to install new rom on WILDFIRE S?

Hello folks,
I have a question. Im new at all this modding roms and etc. I have an unlocked HTC Wildfire S Marvel EU. I want to install a ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445517
There are given some instructions. They include visiting recovery mode in bootloader. but when i turn on it it gives me exclamation mark in a red triangle, i have searched for info about it, but nowhere seemed to be written about the reason of this behaviour.
So my qestion is: what do i need beside an unlocked bootloader to install this or other roms? S-OFF? or what else?
I would be grateful if ill get some info.
1. Unlocked Bootloader if you're phone is S-ON, S-OFFed phone.
2. CWM
3. Custom ROM.
I guess these are the things needed.
You would need a custom recovery like clockwork mod. That little thing with the triangle is HTCs recovery for updates but if your want a ROM you need to replace that with clockwork mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213229 when you are done you can root your phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275 or you can put your custom ROM on there

so i need the S-OFF?
As danielstar13 said you need either S-OFF or if you're S-ON you need to unlock the bootloader using htcdev
You don't need s-off you can go to HTCdev.com and unlock your boot loader and you will be ok

Looks like you need to flash clockworkmod recovery.
