Hi Guys.
Noticed after my update (using about phone, on time/wake time aswell as *#*#4636#*#* Battery usage, partial wake screen), The new facebook app appears to be keeping my phone awake.
I disabled all facebook syncing, and rebooted the phone, and it sleeps fine,
went into the facebook app, refreshed (which worked fine), and went back to home... and now then the phone stayed awake.
Currently I'm going through the process of seeing if the facebook 'syncing' (without actually opening the facebook for HTC app) to see if that does the same thing.
I just thought I'd come here to see if anyone else is having the same issue?
I think I have the same issue. Facebook is suddenly the number one 'partial wake usage'..
ditto same here, i got no friends so gonna disable it.
i have notice if you load the app and go into settings you can turn the refresh to never, seems to work for me and then just manual refresh whenever i want to use it.
i do get an app/item called "college" mysteriously switching on?
I've found so far that in "Accounts and sync", Facebook sync causes the same issue. Facebook for HTC however does not.
My girlfriend just got the facebook update on her Legend, which is still running 2.1
I will keep an eye on it to see if it has the same issue - It's starting to look like a Facebook issue, not a HTC Froyo update issue. Which is a *****, because i use it a lot and the new update is slick.
EDIT: not sure on the 'college' thing, haven't seen that myself.
somehow i'm not seeing this issue, will have to investigate further when i get home from work
Well , if someone like me decides to go back to 1.2, it's easy. Just uninstall the Facebook app and will uninstall the update only. 1.2 is system app.
This is well documents guys here http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/apps/application.php?id=74769995908&ref=ts, so it's something that there sure to address as my phone went from fully charged this morning to empty in the space of 6 hrs. Normally it lasts me the full day.
I did wonder where the hell all my battery went! Removed. It was still rubbish as it just took you to the site for everything.
The girlfriends Legend doesn't seem to suffer the same problems.
(though 'facebook for HTC sense' syncing seems to be causing her phone to stay awake.)
I don't understand why so many developers are falling into this wake-lock issue? It's becoming a serious problem for Android.
SORRY

Have you got a link to this?
Mine seems like it sleeps, but still the wake time is huge.
Uptime: 33:59:30
Awake time: 23:57:55
Wth, only 10 hours sleep in 33 hours :/
EDIT: yes, at partial wake Facebook has huge line, and android system and dialer a really tiny ones.
Disabled "Facebook for HTC" sync from accounts and sync, rebooting, and will see how it goes.

I also tried this, if it seems to work for you try opening the facebook app (without sync enabled) and see what happens. (Just the app, even with sync and notifications off, is enough to keep my phone awake)
Yea I'm having the same issue !! where is the link to Google's acknowledgement?
I got this issue as well !! Bloody Facebook
I always set the Refresh to NEVER and not using notification.
Where is the Google acknowledgement of this issue?
Hope this will be fixed soon.
In the meantime, reboot the phone and dont use Facebook app!

Sorry.
I posted this into the wrong thread. The fix was about the Gmail sybc problem.
Sorry
Yup this is a problem with the facebook 1.3 update.
http://geekfor.me/news/facebook-1-3-wakelock/
I uninstalled the update and went back to 1.2 for now.
I don't think its just Froyo either.... i'm on 2.1 and the new 1.3 facebook update.
My battery seems to be taking a pasting with CPU time very high for the facebook service.
Same problem here. "Time spent without sleeping: 100%" and Facebook app in "Partial wake usage" had a bar the size of the great wall of china. Uninstalled, the touch site is better anyway.
Hey guys, I got this weird drain of about 1%/ hr over a period of 6 hours overnight with 2g data and auto sync on, the previous night with 3g data on I drained only 2% in 9 hours.
Apparently my phone has one hours of being kept awake by a wake lock named
mdm_hsic_pm0
And another hour by
Battery_monitor
Does this happen to anyone else?

Same here on the note 2 with Sprint but I loose about 2-3% per hour. Go to sleep with 100% wake up in the morning with 80-85% left....
This is the only thing i found in bbs thread
mdm_hsic_pm0 is afaik the same as l2 Hasic, just a new name under Jellybean, so its traffic related, i would keen an eye on my background activity..

ssame thing happening to me..should i change kernel ?
i have same battery monitor drain and wlan_wake
I use to have battery drain on my GT-N7100 (and overheating problem). What turned out was that the Gmail sync on one of my accounts was going in a loop and never ending. When I fixed it, all went back to normal.
What rom / Kernels you peeps running? I had this once, flashed a different rom and no problem. Currently running Omega 7.1 with excellent battery life over night.
Mdm hsic is related to mobile data and this includes both 3g and wifi. Turn off 3g when not in use and you will see this wakelock going down. THe other one is nothing to worry

First, when you set the phone for the first time it does a lot of initial activity that may cause drainage.
In my case, I have 3 gmail.com accounts on my phone. I only need one of them to sync email, Picasa, contacts and calendars. On the other 2 I need only email. The phone was syncing everything on all accounts: in addition to the above also Google Photos, Play Magazines,Play Music, Internet, Keep and People Details.
As soon as I disabled all the unwanted syncing, things improved.
After I've noticed my battery can't last for more than 3 hours, I decided to upgrade from ARHD 18.1 to ARHD 19.2 and remove Sense. Phone is faster and it seemed like the battery was doing better, but then it started again with all the sudden decreases: it goes from 35% right down to 25% all of a sudden and stuff like that.
I drained the battery and the phone was shut down and I let it charge all night, when I unplugged it in the morning it went down to 99% right away and then didn't touch it for 29 minutes, that's when I turned on the screen and saw it went down to 90% without even touching it!!! I checked what took so much battery and it showed Facebook with 50%, and I haven't even opened Facebook today. Moreover, Facebook wasn't even opened in Task Manager so how come it drains battery?
Thank you.

It drains because its set to sync your contacts and you feed as well as send notifications for things such as wall posts and messages all of which it needs to check for.
On the drop when unplugged that's normal, the phone charges to 100%, it will still show 100% but it lets it drop to 95% then charges back up this stops the battery from being overcharged.

Ok that's good to know, but 10% within 29 minutes of being idle? That's way too much! How do I prevent it from syncing and such?
Open the app and go to settings. Turn off syncing in there.
Edit : I also turned off autosync in the settings - sync menu of the phone

It doesn't work; I turned off autosync for all apps, turned off any notifications whatsoever on Facebook, and it still drains my battery when idle.

Come again? You just spoke Chinese man.
Maybe a good alternative to try out. Uninstall the facebook app and use the mobile site for a while !
Have you checked betterbatterystats to see if something else is draining your battery? I used to use the Facebook app and it drained some battery, but nowhere as rampant as you mentioned.
To be fair though I've been using the Facebook No locations apk in the android themes and apps section, hated how it would turn my GPS on every time I opened it.
I still got notifications if I turned off all syncing and location reporting in the app etc. Lastly, you could try SLK notifications for Facebook.
A simple app that hardly drains any battery life (well on my s3 is used about 2% over a 24 usage cycle). All it does is notify you when you have a notification. You can set it to open in the Facebook app (for example if you greenified it) or you can set it to take you to the Facebook webpage or an alternative Facebook app.

I've uninstalled Facebook when it was 89% and it took about an hour to go down to 85% idle and when I installed it again every five minutes I turned on the screen and it was one percent less till it got down to 71% and now I uninstalled again and it lasts more. It's definitely the Facebook that drains my battery.
Edit: ok wait, no.. I've used it for like 40 seconds and it was 71% and now it's gone down to 66% right away, what the hell is wrong with this?! I ****ing hate this phone!
Why hate the phone? It's the Facebook app you should hate As suggested by chirag, use the app Greenify. It hibernates the apps that you choose, that means it stops it from running in the background and consuming data.

facebook also drains battery on my HTC One.
uninstalled it and the battery improved by miles. it also charged faster.
yeah facebook always runs in the background...if you need to stay connected to chat use ebuddy which is more battery effiecient
best thing now is to greenify it.its greenified in my phone (get greenify from play store)
also...check your mA with battery monitor widget while its in sleep it should not exceed -50 mA while the phone is in sleep with all autosynce and wifi off

i think the facebook app always runs and connects to internet and keeping something on always awake , maybe the radio.
something is wrong with the facebook official app, even though after disabling notifications, they still come through
Also the Facebook Messenger causes a ****load of wakeups...same with Facebook app. Definitely a huge battery drainer! Tried out the messenger for 2 days...unplugged the phone this morning. After 45 minutes i checked battery life by using better battery stats and the messenger had alreday caused 27 wakeups without even using it!!

I always leave my phone charging all night long and almost always i wake up aroun 8 or 9 am. I really feel that my battery life is draining so fast without a "hard" use and i dont know why. In the attached screenshots you can see that my battery drained about 80% in just 5:40 hours, it drained just using whatsapp a few times while listening music.... is my battery drain normal? or may i have some issues? I am 4.1.2 rogers stock rom. Thank you so much for your time
PS
i forgot to say that LTE was on for about 1:30 or 2:00 hours

I hibernate things I don't want auto syncing or running while the phone is off and not in use, like maps, games, tune-in radio, etc. If you start to have problems with any of the apps on your hibernate list just un-greenify them. If you don't care about facebook notifications/sync you can try adding it to the list.

Cool... Stuff like Location Services, high screen brightness, lots of LTE usage, games, and of course wakelocks from apps that shouldn't be happening or are holding the phone awake when it shouldn't will be the biggest battery drainers. Facebook too.

last few days i have a ridiculous battery drain from androidos - this is new
no new programs installed

anyone else have similar experience>?
Doesn't seem to matter what version you're on or what phone. If it has android Google will eventually target you for some data/battery drain. Mine went from 100% to 59% over night doing nothing - this is on a Nexus 6 runniong 6.0.1. I usually only drop 3%-10% at night, but every once in a while i get hit with the google tax.
There is a lot of news around about a bad update sent out by Facebook and Facebook Messenger that are causing battery drain issues. If you use these apps you may want to uninstall, restart and then reinstall to clear out the issue.

Facebook Messenger destroyed my battery yesterday. I opened the app twice and it caused 20%+ battery drain between charges. Guess that really shouldn't be a surprise given the developer...

To my knowledge, there's really no way to troubleshoot wakelocks without root and Wakelock Detector. I used it and was able to identify nlpcollectorwakelock as my biggest problem. Other smaller ones were identified as well. This was all because my device was awake 100% of the time and Google Play Services were eating majority of the battery. I don't know specifically about the drain on androidOS, but the first step I would take would be root + Wakelock Detector.
