is my battery draining so fast? i747m - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I always leave my phone charging all night long and almost always i wake up aroun 8 or 9 am. I really feel that my battery life is draining so fast without a "hard" use and i dont know why. In the attached screenshots you can see that my battery drained about 80% in just 5:40 hours, it drained just using whatsapp a few times while listening music.... is my battery drain normal? or may i have some issues? I am 4.1.2 rogers stock rom. Thank you so much for your time
PS
i forgot to say that LTE was on for about 1:30 or 2:00 hours

I hibernate things I don't want auto syncing or running while the phone is off and not in use, like maps, games, tune-in radio, etc. If you start to have problems with any of the apps on your hibernate list just un-greenify them. If you don't care about facebook notifications/sync you can try adding it to the list.

You could also try wakelock detector from the play store.

Cool... Stuff like Location Services, high screen brightness, lots of LTE usage, games, and of course wakelocks from apps that shouldn't be happening or are holding the phone awake when it shouldn't will be the biggest battery drainers. Facebook too.
I'll take a look at it once you get an accurate log posted. When was your last flash? At least a full battery cycle has passed?

My last flash was last week and the less battery that i got was 1% i have also wiped batterystats.bin before a full charge using an app called battery calibration also done it manually from recovery. I almost always have location off (only turn it on when i need to use maps and this rarely occurs) my screen brightness is 1/4 of the full bar. I will post the log later!! Battery drain on JB!

Is anyone else having big battery drain since updating to JB? I used to get 2 full days now i can't get 16 hours my phone is staying awake. I'm stock unrooted using juice defender plus. Thanks in advance.
I don't get as much battery I get about 8-14 hrs with 2-4 screen in time I use to get 10-20 hr with 3-4 hr screen on time. I hope they realise a update to help fix the issue seems like quite a few are having.

Yes. I suspect you're probably having the same problem as me. Ever since upgrading to JellyBean, the battery is horrible. Checked BetterBatteryStats, and it's because of msm_otg, it's constantly hitting the device with kernel wakelocks. If I look at CPU states, my phone has been in 384 MHz for 97% of the time, deep sleep 0% of the time. Since it's not sleeping, the battery is draining much faster.
It has something to do with USB on-the-go, but I can't figure it out.
I am having opposite experience. I am getting incredible(to me) battery life. Fully charge yesterday at 430pm and this morning after a bit of texting and calls, battery is at 80%. Pretty good and should be able to get at minimum 1.5 days usage out of it at current rate.
Also, disable Google Now. That's known to be a huge batt drainer.

Did notice my battery was draining more before JB. Once I downloaded JB my battery seemed to drain worse. Finally figured out it was Nova launcher, so switched back to TW and battery is back to normal, with google now on, mainly just get traffic and weather for now.

I apologize for posting in the wrong section. The battery drain continues even after disabling Google Now uninstalling Facebook, pandora and other apps and turning off gps, bluetooth. Andriod OS is staying awake and killing the battery. In data usage delete apps is running in the background at 43 mb? Anyone else?
For me it started with LI3 then into JB.
I noticed Media was at the top of my list when i checked what apps were using battery.
So i ended up disabling the com.sec.android.providers.downloads and so far i think this has helped get my device back to normal battery life..

I don't like any apps that are supposed to save your battery. they usually contribute to battery drain. get better battery stats and see what's causing wakelocks. it's probably location services related to google now. when you don't need it, turn off gps AND location services

Exact same issue for me. I will try this.
I have had severe battery drain for a few days now. I disabled google now yesterday and that didn't change anything. My phone was constantly warm. Today, I turned airplane mode on and the battery still drained. It got down to 58%. I read somewhere in this forum that the google maps update was causing some battery drain so I uninstalled the update at 58% battery life. Three hours later I had 57% battery life. So, for now I can only assume that it was google maps that was consuming my battery. I will have to try updating maps again to make this a more concrete assumption.

[Q] how to improve batterylife without any apps?

Hello,
as everyone im really happy with my GN2.. everyone says that the battery just drops 1% percent everyhoure..?? thats not the case with me.. it drops 10%-15%.. is there any settings you have done?? its still on stock rom didnt rooted YET
I didnt install/download any virus or fool apps from playstore (Ive read many threads but they were all the one who downloaded just random apps from playstore and that caused for battery drain..)
waiting for your answers..
ps: everyone is welcome with his settings.

Wow. 1% every hour? I won't be bothered to change my phone if that happens :silly:
A normal Galaxy Note 2 has a 1% drain every 10-20 minutes of screen-on time.
The screen-off time of the Galaxy Note 2 is indefinite. Depends on what you have on

No, I don't actually. I do not know what the screen-on time from persons' who have sync on.
I usually get 7++ or 8 hours screen-on time, from my usage.
That's with wifi, games, phone calls, messaging.

I leave everything on: data, wifi, autosync, nfc, autobrightness, everything.

Just charge every night. No point disabling data and sync and everything. Makes it pointless to have a smartphone

Wow. Wifi and data on? You must have super internet, man! Coolness!
I've left the office just about an hour ago... Charge was 100% and I have opened video (auto-play next=ON) playlist. Trip to home has took about 40 mins and every single second device has played videos, non stop.. No app, nothing special. When I arrived, the charge was 99%
It's probably has its very own battery optimizing systems inside which is clearly avoiding energy leaks.
I guess, I don't need anything for now to improve charge durability... Just fyi about my little test~
Hello again,
Actually our phones need nothing for better pattery durability. But if you wonder your battery specifications, i would like to recommend "Battery HD Pro" from google play market. It supports Turkish language and more.
Good luck.
The gnote2 loses ~10% an hour on WiFi and ~15% on mobile data. You can get more than 10h reading books with white text on black background. And videos on internal/external storage can get you more than 10h display depending on the video. I generally get about 10h display in WiFi and 6-7h on a workday where I use mobile data and I haven't flashed a custom kernel yet. Too much extraneous junk with the current kernels. Just looking for one that allows custom voltages on various things, mainly CPU and GPU.

I don't use any power saving apps. I have everything turned on and syncing 3 email accounts. I lose 1% overnight and rarely lose a percentage when the screen is off. What did I do? Just turned off google now and the 3 tick marks under GPS setting. Good luck!

Just to share my battery drain, i play games almost 4 hours a day, rest of the time texting, maybe at most 2 hours of screen-off a day, my phone is 40% when it says 8 hours on, dunno what all you have, i have wifi, data sync, auto brightness, and well gaming, the game though are bike race and minecraft, but when with sometihng heavier like modern combat you can expect 6 hous and its 20% just sharing im stock rooted..
I agree with @akdenizx
Wanam's tips is so succesfully for battery life. I use my phone with this advice. I am happy. My phone is charged every 1.5 day by me
I want to one tip for wanam's tips.
Wi-fi sleep policy must set never.
Try using white text on true black background. Saves a lot of power on Amoled displays. The inverted colour option on the stock browser gave about 13 hours of screen time compared to the normal 7 hours

advice need for battery life

Galaxy S III with Tmobile, stock ROM, android 4.1.2.
With wifi off, GPS off, auto sync off and mobile data off (so basically I just keep the phone function on), the battery drop 7% over night without any usage. I think there is too much, right? attached are sceenshot of battery usage and also wakelock dection. Could anyone give me some advice on how to save more battery? wakelock shows wechat app had most of the wakelock but I am not sure if this contribute to the battery since it shows 5% in battery stats.
Thank you.
PS: don't know how to arrange screenshot, the first and third one is for battery stats, the second one is from wakelock dectection

Your signal is crap. Turn WiFi back on and leave it connected to a network.
Delete carrier iq. Need to be rooted to do it. Are you?
WeChat is a problem that needs to be dealt with. I suspect WiFi will fix it.

Nandroid is the backup through recovery. These are not the same thing, but you absolutely need to do them both. Immediately. It's a 10 second operation that can save you hours of time later.

My guess is probably not as most custom roms have already been debloated.
Keep in mind too, as your battery ages, it's performance will decrease, so on a 1.5 year old battery, a 1% an hour drain really isn't too bad imo. you might be able to make it better, but it's up to you if you want to.put the time into trying.

Looking at your screenies, what I can tell right off is that many of your apps are polling constantly.
Android OS or System (I can't remember which atm) is probably your location settings broadcasting. Go into Settings>Location and also Google App Settings>Location and see what your location is set at.
HD Widgets is polling your location to do the weather, which is understandable, but see if you can change the refresh rate to further out (maybe every hour or so).
Carrier IQ and VisualVoicemail are only able to be disabled via Root. Once you get Root, then you can disable those (either freeze in Titanium Backup or pull the app out of /system/app or use Aerowinder's debloater).

polling apps: from wakelock, carrier IQ and visualvoicemail are the two that in the top, could be ones that using most of battery? wechat(x252) and weibo(x149) have high number but very short in time, do they have big impact on battery drop?
Location service is checked on all three items. I will turn it off to see the impact. I have to remember turn on before using gmap and turn it off after close gmap.
HD widges, already set the location to my home, not using 'detect current location'. fresh rate is 1 hour. I will turn on those battery saving features(don't update when screen off)
thanks.

Best thing to do is what Aerowinder said above and let it sit idle for 4+ hours or overnight with BBB running.
Then what we want to see are screen shots of:
Since Unplugged/Processes
Since Unplugged/ Wakelocks
Since Unplugged/Partial Wakelocks.
My superfecta is CarrierIQ ftw, Android OS (location) for Place, WeChat for Show and Sync services (calendar, g/email) for 4th.
One thing that I do like is that I do not see any FB, G+ or Twitter in your screenies. Those three suck (literally) on battery.

Battery problems

Hello, for some reason I am experiencing battery problems. I have a t999l with CM11 and the BMS kernel. So does my mom. This is important because she has been on her battery longer than mine and still has 90% while I have 39%. I know the problem. Under the battery stats my phone is always awake, and my Mom's isn't. See picture. I want to know mine it is always awake, and hers isn't. I have 6 hours with 39% and she has 7 hours with 90%. Doesn't make much sense. We both have the little "Okay Google" thing enabled too.

I hope I did it right. I've had this app installed for a while, actually, but never used it.
Umm almost there. Please Open BBS, go to Settings > Advanced. Check the box for Root Features. It will ask for Root privilege. Grant it. Reboot and get another log preferably Idle 3-4 hours.

My phone has been on since rebooting for an hour and a half now, I was using it mildly. For the next hour and a half, I will leave it be. About 12 hours with about 30% battery.

Please reboot again before leaving Idle. Otherwise BBS Reference points won't reset.

Okay. I guess I'll have to use my Blaze in the meantime.

Okay, done.
Are you sure that was Idle Log ? Assuming it was, there are quiet a few apps working in the background.
1. Google Calendar has Alarms going off. Did you have an Calendar indicator / Alarm ?
2. Media Scanner although low usage, has been active. Please use the app called Kill Mediascanner.
3. Facebook and Google + really should be removed.
4. Yahoo email client was active. Although it was low key in this log, it will become a menace.
5. Please freeze / Disable Google Search.

[Q] Battery Life & Unnecessary Services?

Hello everybody, I have this phone for 4 days and I'm getting terrible battery life! First day I didn't bother so much but now I'm anxious because it loses 1% almost in 2 minutes.
Brightness is 50%, location off, mobile data and bluetooth are always off, I only use wi-fi, but not too often. I used Greenify to hibernate unnecessary apps but I still don't know what is draining my battery! Are there any unnecessary services you disable to improve battery life? Can it be related to weak signal? Because signal from the operator is not that good, sometimes all lines are empty, that is, no signal. I already did a hard-reset the second day I bought.
Any comment is welcomed, thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply, but what version are you asking? You mean program version? It's V10a and no update is available.
Or are you asking for the 'ROOT'? My phone is not rooted.
No signal or weak signal destroy battery life.

Thanks, can it be the only issue? I heard some rumors that Google Play services destroy battery life as well, I'm suspicious.

Could be lots of things. But that is usually the biggest battery drain next to screen. Without seeing your battery screens it's hard to say.

I can't do it now but the screen time I got is 2 hours and 40 minutes and battery shows it's 40% now.
I saw that it decreased 2% in 5 minutes while writing this.
Be patient rhe battery gets much better after a few cycles since its a new phone. If you had to update right away as soon as you turned on the phone then a favtory reset is recommended

Once I did a hard reset, isn't it enough? And I also charged my phone three times in 4 days, should I still be patient?

That's going to give you over 4 hours of screen on time. That's more than most of us get.

uh your screen time are much much much better than mine. mine could only last about 2 hours everyday, mostly because I use mobile network though.
If you lost 2% in 5 minutes screen on time, you could get 250 minutes or 4 hours screen time.
I went into Settings > Security > Phone administrators and unchecked Android Device Manager. Then, Application Manager > Google Play Services > Uninstall updates, reboot and click on one of the ? with notifications to update Google Play Services. Now you can re-enable Android Device Manager (or not). That will lower your battery drain when the device is in idle.

Thanks to you again, however, the screen time I got was for light tasks such as searching settings tab, checking the working services etc. Almost no heavy stuff like playing games and hours of internet!

I'm happy to hear mine is not that terrible but I will change the brand of my operator today. This weak signal really irritates me. Hard reset didn't work for it, too.

Forgive my ignorance but I can't find the Application Manager.
perhaps you should look into apn settings, as it appears to me your signal strength is your battery issue. google is your friend
