[Q] What is this new 10 point touch? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't figure out what it is. I installed invisiblek's new kernel and it says it supports it but i have no idea what it is?

10 points can register for the touch screen at once. seems to be hit or miss for people. get multitouch tester off the market to see how many you get. some people only get two some get 10 on the same hardware. no solution has been found for why some only get 2 that I know of

I know this sounds kinda funny...i don't know if it's even right. lol...think if your fingers were small enough, you could type on this like an ipad..or like that microsoft multi touch table.
edit: forgot I used it with the new microbes live wallpaper and I got 5 fingers to register

problem with multitouch in games

hello,
I install some games on my HTC Desire ex. Guitar Hero and I have problem with my screen. In some games (guitar hero) I need to press two button (on the screen) at the same time, but only one is working. Is this possible to repair this problem? I have this bug in all games where I shoud press screen on two sides at the same time.
Can anyone help me?
I have android 2.2.
Contact the developer of the game. The desire supports two touches at once which is all you need. So if it doesn't work its the game that doesn't support it.
Actually I think it's a HTC issue. Download Dotty from the market and try using multi touch on the screen. You'll soon see the problems!
I check this on Dotty and I have only this bug: youtube.com/watch?v=hVlsRCMltDg.
In dotty I have correct two touch in one line at the same time, but my other aplications don't work with two touches correctly.
Maybe it is bug after android update 2.1->2.2?

The desire dosent have true multitouch, it only has dual touch, this leads to all sorts of problems in games

So which Andorid smartphones have true multitouch function?
Only iphone have true multitouch?
It's not good for HTC to make not full functional phone
I don't think any android has true multi-touch, certainly nothing made by HTC.
All htc phones are single touch that can detect certain gestures based on the "size" of the touch i.e. the difference between the 2 points, that is how it can work out pinch zooming as the size of the touch either shrinks or grows.
Samsung Galaxy I9000 S have full multitouch. Now I regret because I should buy better smartphone a few days ago
Guitar Hero on Android is not multitouch so will only register one finger at a time. It is just one of many issues with that game. Registering 2 touches is more than adequate for every multitouch game I have ever tried so no need to make an issue out of the Desire's slightly dated multitouch screen technology.

But the Desire isn't registering 2 touches. It's registering 1 finger as 1 touch and 2 fingers as 1 large touch with altering sizes. If you have ever tried any of the first person shooter-games on the Desire you will know that these games are very hard to play bc you can't change viewpoint and move at the same time. Many of gamelofts 3d action games are unplayable because of this. Many games on different emulators are difficult too because of the need to push multiple buttons at once.
I'm a bit of a gaming nut and was VERY disappointed by this when I bought my Desire. It's a very nice phone, but it puzzles me how HTC decided on some of the more odd and annoying designchoices....apparently its just impossible to get THE perfect phone...
(still wondering why a crappy camera is upgraded to record 720p....hooray, now my blurry, dark and noisy videos are ugly in HD! )

[REQ] Multitouch Keyboard

I have always said I will not buy a tablet until they have a multitouch keyboard, because for me that is necessary for using a tablet. One key at a time and/or Swype will not cut it. I need to be able to type like my keyboard at home.
Please will someone port Droid X's keyboard and you will make a buyer out of me, and probably make my mananger and boss very happy.
(I work at sprint )
I'll put forth $5, :-\...sorry I can't do more alot of my money is going towards my server for Team Galaxy Sense
I think you will have to stick a few digits on the ebd before anyone will even take that request seriously. porting an IME is no trivial task.
Why do you need a kultitouch keyboard anyway? I cant see any posible usage scenario other than gaming and remote desktop.

I installed it on my Tab and the font on the keyboard was tiny
SmartKeyboard Pro supports multitouch. Apparently. http://www.dexilog.com/smartkeyboard/
Smart keyboard pro does it very well, and I'm pretty sure that better keyboard does too... I have them both on my vibrant...but I still keep coming back to swype... I'm anxiously awaiting delivery of my tab though so I can't report on how well they work on the tab, although I AM running the leaked 2.2 (obsidian) rom on my vibrant (same processor/ram/etc...), and they work very well on it. If you have a store demo you can install the free version of smart keyboard pro on it... The multi touch works, just not the user dictionary and some of the other customization features (like setting the long press duration...)

A multi touch keyboard lets you type faster... Your finger can still be touching a key when you hit the next one... Without multi touch, your finger had to be completely off of the last key before you can hit the next one... It doesn't seem like a big deal, but it makes a noticeable difference...

I'm extremely picky about this and it was the reason I ditched my HTC Incredible (it's shoddy multi-touch couldn't keep up with my typing...this has supposedly been fixed in later patches).
Nonetheless, I installed Smart Keyboard (I hate Better Keyboard) on my Tab, and it works flawlessly. I highly recommend it, it's inexpensive and you won't break bank on it.
lol - smartkeyboard pro ftw, use it on both my android devices after trying everything else

I have a Desire and I'm not sure if it's keyboard is multitouch (HTC IME Mod), but if it isn't then that would explain why I don't understand the need, but anything that lets me type faster is great, the two stock keyboards are utter rubbish.
Another vote for Smart Keyboard Pro. I have used it on both my Evo and G Tablet and it is the best.
Well, the default keyboard on my Tab does multitouch just fine. Only the Swype keyboard seems to lack multitouch when typing normally.

If I'm understanding right, then the default (not swype) keyboard lets me press a key and before removing my finger from it press another.
I believe this is the multitouch behaviour being requested and as such, assuming I am correct, I can also confirm this as working.

Multi touch issue

I have some problem with my touch screen. It works well when I'm browsing, and using pinch-in/out, and other multi touch actions. Problem occurs when i play some game that requires multi touch(for an example Real Football 2012). And i have downloaded and tried Multi touch test from store and it detects only 2 fingers. And when I put one finger in one corner and other in other and move one of them, while other is fixed, circles that present show me next: Circle on finger that I move goes very well but other circle, on finger that is fixed and isn't moving, goes up and down even if don't move my finger in any direction. Is there any way fixing it? Or is it touch screen fault? Is there any touch screen/multi touch calibration app, because I can't find any on PlayStore?
Hope you will understand what I ment to write, English is not my first language.

Thats a problem of the hardware itself, the desire dont have "real" multitouch, if two fingers are in one line, there are recognizion problems.
Sorry, no way to solve it if i understood your problem right.
As I know Desire has dualtouch, not multitouch support...

Like what was said before, its hardware limitation. You get two touchpoints but doesn't accurately track the fingers exact location accurately. Its not a bug that can be fixed. Its a limitation. Give it up or get a new device.

Picked up my Note 2 today. Have some questions and concerns

I picked up my Note 2 today at a local sprint store. They were only given 5 and once I got mine they had 2 left. This was 20 minutes after they opened.
I have a couple questions and concerns reuarding the phone that im hoping someone can help me answer.
1. Is there a way to stop the volume from decreasing whenever i plug it into my car? The volume will always go down to half and its kind of annoying.
2. When using the keyboard to type messages, if i spell a word wrong and hit space it wont autocorrect it. Is this a feature Samsung left out? Im so used to it on my evo, i feel like i have to keep looking at what im writing to make sure i dont misspell something.
3. If im in the browser and zoom in on something it wont adjust to fit the page like the HTC EVO did. Is this also something samsung didnt include?
The main concern I have with the phone is the 3g data speeds. I am coming from the original Evo 4g and although Sprint isnt known to have the greatest speeds I never had a problem downloading an application. Today it took an hour to download myfitnesspal from the play store. I tested the speeds on speedtest.net and I was getting 33kbps down and 5kbps up. My girlfriend who also has an Original EVO 4g was getting 300kbps down and 170kbps up. Still not the greatest speed but alot better than what i was getting on the Note 2. Both phones were in the same spot and the same time. I did the test a number of times and always had the same outcome.
Thanks everyone. So far I am loving this phone and both the hardware and software are great!!
Word prediction will need to be enabled in your keyboard settings

Also maybe try installing a different browser for your auto alignment issues

There currently no autocorrection on the stock Samsung keyboard.
Hopefully it will get pushedto us in a future OTA

That is due to one of the headphone options to limit the intensity of volume so it doesn't damage your ears. You'll find the option it in the sound settings, after you disable it in won't change your volume to half anymore.

So I downloaded the Jellybean Keyboard and its awesome!!!I was having a fit last night with the browser when everytime I scroll, it zooms in, thought I was gonna throw up... so I switched to Google Chrome Browser.

I have a new Note 2, and I'm also new to Android, so I've been posting different things I encounter with the phone.
My experience with the keyboard is one of the things I posted, copied in here.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The default Samsung keyboard on the Galaxy Note 2 is a sleeper.
Samsung included Swiftkey Flow, which allows gesture-based typing, like Swype. The more I use it the more I like it, and it has auto-suggest and auto-correct.
The number row at the top is pretty great, too, the large screen allows it all to fit. The auto-suggestions appear above the number row.
Samsung also included the handwriting keyboard, for the S-Pen. The handwriting recognition works really well, and I'm coming up to speed with it.
The main points to remember about the keyboards are these:
- auto-suggest and auto-correct function in both tapping and handwriting modes.
- in tapping mode the transition between tapping and gesturing is seamless, but if you try to use both modes within a word a space is automatically inserted.
- in tapping mode auto-correct functions only while using gestures. If you're tapping and not gesturing you have to choose among the suggestions instead of relying on auto-correct. I'm learning the cases where it's important to me to have auto-correct do its thing, like when typing "I'm". If I type it in in tapping mode, it ends up as "Im" unless I choose the auto-suggestion with the apostrophe. It's better instead to use gesture mode for "I'm" as the auto-correct will do the right thing and use the apostrophe. As I mentioned, the transition from tapping to gesturing is seamless.
- quick-punctuation and quick-capitalization functions are missing
completely. People who don't use gestures and people who've never spent time with an IOS keyboard ( and many who have ) don't get this.
I am starting to really like this keyboard. My only real gripes are the lack of auto-correct in tapping mode and the lack of quick-capitalization and quick-punctuation, but they are mitigated by long-presses.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Someone else mentioned in the thread the Jelly Bean Keyboard, and it really is an excellent keyboard, I discovered it with my Galaxy S3 and initially installed it on the Note 2. But I'm not willing to give up the handwriting recognition, so back to the stock keyboard I went.
The stock keyboard doesn't do everything, but it has its good points.
Cheers,
-John

I also came from the Evo4G, and the auto adjust feature you speak of is a HTC Sense feature. I noticed this early on after using others phones and tablets. Although a small feature for those that have had it and lost it we all know how big of a thing it really is. Still don't know why Google hasn't implemented this within current builds of Android yet.

Text/browser reflow after zooming(what the op is refering to on HTC phones...similar to word wrapping in excel lol) is patented by Apple. Samsung removed it from devices last year. HTC will eventually do so as well.
Its been all over the web for nearly 2 years...you are a smart guy you can find it
The only way to get it to work on samsung phones is to, after zooming in to the size that you want, you have to double tap the screen an additional time to enable text reflow.

Hmm, that'd contradict TechRadar.com's review [/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/samsung-galaxy-note-2-1093688/review/5#articleContent]:You can have the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 reformat pages when you zoom in but it doesn't do this by default, which is slightly annoying.
In fact, you have to go into the advanced section of the settings menu to dig this little gem out, which we weren't overly impressed with having to do.
Lots of people won't be aware of this - and that could lead to a second rate experience for no reason at all.

Touch screen sensitivity weirdness

Brand new Nexus 7 here. I have noticed that any action requiring a touch and hold, such as moving an app or widget is often not recognized and I have to try several times. On the other hand, other things seem to be hyper sensitive, like the SwiftKey keyboard where I regularly get double presses.
Is it just me, or are other people experiencing this?

I'm having the issue too. Also when using Swype and when resting my finger on an opened browser page and all of a sudden with one finger it'll zoom in real quick. I think I might exchange tomorrow. I've been waiting to see if this is software or hardware issue. I've also had the chrome browser just lock up.
Same. Takes me a couple tries to hold down on the home screen to get the wallpaper option to come up for example. My initial guess is that it's software related...maybe a sensitivity issue? Like it wants to scroll left/right the second you press down which then negates any long-touch pressed-in options until you let go and try again. If that makes sense.

Right now I'm not. Everything else seems fine. I really think it's just 4.3 or the new screen or something being more sensitive than the old N7. I just tried it now and about 9 of 10 times i got the wallpaper option to come up, but I was paying attention. So who knows!

Sometimes touch and hold will work fine, but other times it's frustratingly bad. Seems like I'm not the only one, which makes me think that swapping it probably won't make a difference. I think I'll just hold out for a software update.
