So, I decided to root my Evo following this guide. After following the steps, the root worked perfectly and I booted into the new flashed rom. Then I decided to flash Fresh Evo 3.4.0.1, using ROM Manager (downloaded from the Market). I ran ROM Manager, did "Install ROM from SD Card" and chose the zip. My Evo booted into ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1, so I chose "install zip from sdcard", and chose my zip. The install outputs this:
Code:

Of course, I didn't make a Nandroid backup. Can anyone help me?
When you use Rom manager app to install a Rom and it boots into recovery it should automatically install it. You should not have gone to flash zip from sd card once the phone rebooted into recovery. Try wiping everything(data, cache and davlik) like 2 or 3 times. Then try flashing the Fresh Rom. If that doesn't work, load the pc36img that you used when you rooted your phone(should be Sprint Lovers Rom) back onto your sdcard and power off the phone and reboot into bootloader by holding down vol. down and power. It should scan for the img and just say yes when it asks if you want to update and when it is done say yes when it asks if you want to reboot. Then flash amonRA recovery and put the FreshRom on to your sdcard and boot into recovery and flash the Rom. Make a backup first though.
I got into the bootloader, and it's flashing back to the Sprint Lovers rom. Hopefully I can take it from here if I'm more careful. Thank you so much!
Edit: Or not. It did flash the Sprint Lovers rom in the bootloader, but RADIO_V2 returned FAIL-PU and BOOTLOADER returned FAIL-IC. I think I messed this phone up pretty bad.
Here's what the top of my bootloader says if it helps...
Code:
SUPERSONIC EVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-2.02.0000
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.11.19

Does the phone boot into rom at all?
U r not bricked. As long as u can get into bootloader &/or recovery your phone is fixable. You may have to flash an older radio. I have very limited knowledge and I am sorry that I can't be more help. Someone will come along & help u though. I am still learning. My best suggestion is search the forums & Google for your problem.

It sounds like you got a bad rom download. Try re-downloading it on your computer, boot into recovery, and pushing the rom to your sd card. You might need to reboot for the recovery to see the zip file, but it should work.
I fixed it by downloading a stock rom for my phone and just flashing that. I think the rom I was trying to boot isn't supported on my phone or something, because the MD5 hash of the downloaded file matches the hash it says on the website, so it's not corrupt. Thanks for your help though, guys.
Try downgrading the radio (2.15.00.11.19) to an older version. ROM's that come with HTC newest kernels will not recognize that radio and give weird problems, I for example could not boot the phone while trying to install myn's warm 2.2 RLS4. Downgraded radio and problem was solved.

Hi Guys
been searching for hours for a solution but can't find anything.
Installed Lambros Rom - all fine. I've booted into recovery to put my old rom on and I get the following error:
E: Can't Open/cache/recovery/command
--Install from sdcard--
Finding update package
Opening update package
Verifying update package
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
So i've reformatted the card, wiped the phone cache and tried several different rom and I get the same error. Using ClockWorkMod recovery and rom manager.
Can anyone help? Is this a common error?

I dont know very well but it can be about S-on-off issue
Try disabling verification in clockwork. From memory I think its under the advanced option. It says toggle verification. Hope this helps
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It is the signature verification but to toggle it you need to (in recovery) go to 'install update from zip' and there should be the option to toggle it.
I have the same problem. My question is whether there is anything I can do to avoid this problem the next time I upgrade to a newer version of leedroid?
BTW my HTC Desire was unrooted using the unrevoked method and I'm currently running leedroid 2.2f.
Thanks in anticipation.

I still have bootloader 0.80 - this sort of indicates I didn't upgrade to the OTA 2.2 can someone back me up on this?
If I unroot my phone to 2.1 using a gold card and then re-root do you think this will work?

^ This.
All you have to do is go into recovery, install zip file from sd, and toggle the signature verification. This has happened to me a few times; I just simply toggled it, and the ROM flashed perfectly.
sorry for ressurecting, but i have a similar problem.
wanted to install a custom rom and for some reason it failed und bricked my phone.
i boot into fastboot, but every time i want to flash a new rom, it says "signatur verfication failed" and i do not have the option to toggle it off.

You need to be in recovery, not in fastboot.
Are you even rooted and have a custom recovery image?

You need a fake flash recovery image.
AmonRa version can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=689778
download it, place it on SD card. Boot into fast boot, chose run update.zip and it will boot in to the fake flash this is where you get all the option you need.
Get back to me if you have an trouble.

I have exalty the same problem as you. I have been looking all over the place for a tutorial I could follow. I even downloaded a zip signer and tried to sign the update.zip file I downloaded from the leedroid thread on xda. It did not work.
From what I understand from the above:
You have the exact problem as you

I think if you're on the leaked 2.2 rom you won't be able to use clockwork recovery successfully. You'll have to downgrade to 2.1, root, install clockwork recovery and then install the rom.
That's what worked for me.
Install Clockwork recovery.
Then boot into recovery (after a nandroid backup) and toggle off verification.
Then you won't get the error when you apply the update.zip. You must do this in recovery.
Toggle off verification in Clockwork recovery:

Cheers!
I've read all these posts, but my phone refuses to show me the clockwork recovery menu.. no matter what I do, I always get the android system recovery menu..
Please help..
Also, I cant get my phone into recovery/download mode using the 3 button combo. I've tried every possible combination, but the only way I can get to the default 'android' recovery menu is by using the ROM Manager app.

Hey guys, if you're still having this 'Signature Verification Failed" nonsense and Clockwork Mod is not letting you flash anything, check this thread (on the third page, my post tells you the fix), I just solved my own issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944426&page=3
Good luck, post back if you have questions/comments, I'll check back and hopefully find you solved your problems as I have
Cheers
just try flashing clockwork mod
I am having the same exact issues. But i have found a workaround that is working for me.
When presented with the error, i go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Reboot recovery". After rebooting, on my phone, the process will start as desired
by me the same problem, it always comes E: signatur verification failed
So turn off signature verification in recovery. Should be in "Advanced".
Got the notification earlier today, went ahead and started downloading the update. I turned on 4G, it couldn't get 4G so i turned on wifi when it was at 12%
Download completed, it rebooted, showed the proper update screen, and now it gets to about 15% of the progress bar then shows the slanted triangle with an exclamation mark in it and little android dude under it.
Rebooted, tried again and same thing.
I'm thinking cuz i switched from downloading via 3g to wifi maybe file is corrupt?
I deleted the update file from /sdcard/download and tried again and same thing...
any ideas?
---update--
i pressed discard and then went to back to check for software update and it re-downloaded it but same thing..
Is it cuz its rooted? do i have to remove the root to put the OTA?
btw, its my gf's evo.. if it was mine i'd probably be running some other rom.
--update2--
So i flashed stock recovery then tried again, same thing but this time different images during the install process and the error
Went over to unrevoked's site, installed the unrevoked-forever-son.zip (had to flash clockwork recovery to flash that zip)
That still didn't do it.
Now i'm trying to get stock recovery back on but it won't ask me if i want to install it. I have it as PC36IMG.zip on the root of my sd card. When i first get into HBOOT it shows checking PC36IMG.zip and then no option to press volume up to install/flash it.
ALso i unziped PC36IMG.zip and attempted to flash recovery.img via fastboot but i get this:
[codr]sending 'recovery' (3779 KB)... OKAY
writing 'recovery'... INFOsignature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)[/code]
Anyone know what to do?
I'm having the same issue! Also rooted. I'd really like to not have to flash it from recovery so I don't have to re-do all my settings.
I'm having similar issues, but I'm not as far as you have gone. =)
Could you help me out on reflashing the stock recovery? 3.70 is the first OTA that has come out since I rooted (with unrevoked3), so I'm no expert. I'm downloading a stock PC36IMG.zip, but I don't want to replace everything if I can help it.
Hopefully once I have a stock recovery again I can give you a hand. =)
I'm no expert by any means but, I was rooted when the 1st OTA came out. I just flashed joey-krims stock rom over top my stock rom. I just wiped cache & dalvik cache. Didn't do a factory reset. All apps and data were preserved. And I just flashed joeys most recent update over top the last update, same procedure, same results. Only thing that happed was my weather bug widget had to be put back on the screen.
Milage may vary.

Download the PC36IMG.zip and place it on the root of your SD card. Reboot device while holding volume down, give it a sec and it should prompt you volume up to flash volume down to cancel.
Flashing the recovery will not erase/replace anything but the recovery itself.
there is something that gets missed every time.
the ota will not work unless u r on an odex completely stock rom!!!
when i say complete i mean all apps that came with the stock rom have to still be on it also.
otherwise... dont be surprised if it wont work.
just flash a new rom instead... that would be the better sol here.

yea, same here. Wife and I were running errands so I ran the OTA on her handset - no issues. Tried it on mine and got the same error with the thing over the Android. doh!

I would flash factory rom as you are doing but if i don't get it back to how it was, my gf would ***** till i die...
Ok this is pretty simple, just did it on my coworkers Evo will be doing mine once I am off call,
1. Use Rom manager to install ra recovery
2. Boot to recovery, and flash zip from SD card ( this step assumes us have copied the downloaded zip using root explorer from cache dir and saved to sd card)
3. Select the OTA 370 blablabla.zip file
4. after flash completes, don't reboot yet, select apply zip from SD card again, and flash root (I used a file called 2.2 root.zip I found on these boards some where)
5. Reboot and when it finishes ur phone will be rooted and updated, running stock recovery
*** note I answered from my phone so I don't have any of the links or files, I will try to place links next time i am at my computer. this will just update and not wipe anything from the phone **

NO you are correct, the 200MB PC36IMG.zip will reset everything!
I was referring to the stock recovery image (3 to 4MB file)
I noticed browsing through the forums and downloading files i need that different recovery and roms are name as PC36IMG.zip
So now everytime i download one, i either rename it or put it in a folder with the proper name..

ok ill give that a try cause i just redid it and im still getting the error message
Failing here too.... stuoid.
werxen what problems r u having
Ok, so what i did was downgrade to stock shipped rom
then had to do the 5 or so OTA's and finally on 3.70.651.1 but NOW I can't Root or flash clockwork mod which means i can't restore the nandroid backup
I ran into this post over at androidcentral Yes you can do OTA update if youve unrevoked forever heres how hope that helps you guys as i went through a headache and all this other crap to get this stupid OTA and now i can't even restore my backed up data!
Guess i have to wait for a better way to root the HBOOT 2.10 version
good luck to everyone else
You know that little voice that tells you to stop and think about what you are about to do....well I didn't 'listen. I have just enough experience to be dangerous....which is why I am writing this thread.
I have a rooted EVO. It was rooted with Unrevoked 3. I was using Clockwork and had flashed several ROMs. Most recently using CM7. I have Nandroid backups and all was well.
In a comedy of errors my original nandroid file was deleted so that I had no was of returning to the stock EVO ROM. I was trying to update CM7 so that i could use the GPS. To do thisI had to flash Sense based ROM so that I could use the MSD(??) and then reflash my CM7 and voila, your GPS works.
Well I couldn't get any new roms to work. I tried several and they all crashed. I then had the great idea to use RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253.exe to restore my EVO back to stock. Bad idea.
I now have a phone that boots straight into Fastboot. I can choose bootloader and get to the HBOOT screen. When I choose the recovery it looks like all is well. The phone goes into the white HTC screen but then goes to a Red Triangle/Exclamation Mark screen. I can get out of this screen by pressing the power button and vol up button. It goes to and Android system recovery screen.
My choices are
reboot system now
apply sdcard: update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
I have tried placing the PC36IMG.zip (downloaded from xda) file in the root directory. I get a signature verification failed if I try to install the update file from any other custom ROMs. Installation aborted.
All I want is to get my phone back.
I currently have HBOOT 0.79.0000 with S-OFF
Please help

"So you're saying there is still a chance." Thanks guys. I'll get on this today.
Just a quick question. Do I need to rename these files to "update-'file name'.zip" ?
Boot into the bootloader, with the attached zip file exactly as it is. Don't changed the name or extract it. Once in the bootloader, select yes to update, this is amon_ra 2.3 recovery. If you want clockwork recovery, let me know.
When I boot into the Boot Loader I get this:
HBOOT

No image!
Loading...[PC36DIAG.nbh]
No image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Oh my GOSH! I finally got it! Thank you thank you thank you! I was using the wrong PC36img.zip file. Not really sure why there are several different versions of this...a newbie statement I'm sure.
The root script linked to in my sig can be used to update your phone if you wanted to use it for that, once it sees you have S-OFF it will skip all the rooting stuff and go straight to flashing the updated ROM radios and recovery. Afterward just use rom manager to flash clockwork and you'll be good to go.
edit: nm, just saw you got it

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me out here because I've screwed up somehow and would like to un-do whatever it is I've done. I'm trying to think straight so I hope what I type out ends up making sense .
1. Right now, my phone works. I'm stuck on a rooted pre-OTA stock rom. I unrooted once, but was not able to flash the OTA update via the stock recovery. I still have a use-able phone so I'm doing better than some people in threads I've read about.
2. I tried to root it with gfree. I don't think it worked, and some errors came up during the process. I used the first method then skipped to 0.2 per the wiki. Using g-free verify tells me everything is alright. supercid, sim lock, etc.
3. I am s-off, but earlier I couldn't get gfree verify to work (my own error I'm certain) and assumed I screwed up. Rom manager and root explorer never gave me prompts for superuser permissions, but I was s-off. I didn't think I rooted correctly and used the rage against the cage method.
4. Right now, I'm apparently s-off and rooted. I can't flash any roms though. I use rom manager to flash the latest recovery, it says it works and then when I reboot to recovery it stays stuck on the HTC splash screen. Battery pull takes me back to the pre-OTA rom. Recovery only recently stopped working though.
Ultimately, I need to get recovery back somehow, and then I'd return my phone back to an unrooted state with the stock 2.2 rom since I can't seem to handle rooting to well. Since I have no clockwork mod recovery, not really sure what to do to get this process rolling. If someone can help me get recovery back, and then help me flash roms again I'd definitely appreciate it. I have noone to blame but myself here.
If it ends up mattering, I do have adb installed and can use that if need be, and like I said my phone still boots up. I don't have a brick but something crazy is going on.

Hey thank you so much for a response! I tried this with two sd cards because I didn't have any luck. I tried that exact command and flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-vision.img and each time it returns flash_image: not found
It definately is on my sd card.

With adb it gives me the same error, but I used rom manager to flash 2.5.1.3 so I have a recovery again. I have one good nandroid of the rom im stuck on.
My next issue is that I tried to flash the stock rom with root from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836042 and something isn't right. I wipe data/cache and then go to install zip from sdcard (manual recovery) and select the rom. What happens after is it tells me the normal messages it gives when flashing and "welcome to vision" but when the flash is done instead of giving me the option of "reboot system now" it goes back to the install zip for sd card menu like the flash never happened (and it will not boot past the htc screen)

Maybe it's a bad recovery. You said you flashed 2.5.1.3, so ROM Manager should work. Try flashing 3.0.2.4 through there now. If not, I suggest downloading Fastboot.

Hey thank you so much for a response! I tried this with two sd cards because I didn't have any luck. I tried that exact command and flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-vision.img and each time it returns flash_image: not found
It definately is on my sd card.

flash_image isn't part of the stock ROM, I made a guide for using it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902493

Thanks for the guide! I followed it with no issue, I rebooted into recovery; it first hung on the HTC screen, rebooted, vibrated and then booted back into the OS. So anyway, instead of 2.5.1.3, I'm on 3.0.0.5 now.
I went down to 2.5.1.3 and downloaded cm6.1 via rom manager. It told me this : E: can't open '/sdcard/..location (bad) installation aborted. tmp/recovery.log was copied to sdcard
I tried enom's froyo themed rom next, heres what recovery tells me:
Installing update...
Formatting cache
Copying files
Formatting SYSTEM
Copying files...
E Can't symlink /system/bin/su
E Failure at line 19:
symlink /system/xbin/su SYSTEM: bin/su
Installation aborted.
I also tried to download an updated superuser from the market, it says installation unsuccessful package file was not signed correctly.

That worked, so thank you. I ended up unrooting and putting s back on so I can retry. Now, I can't flash the OTA update via stock recovery. Any ideas for that one? Thank you so much for all the other help as well.
"E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command" -when I first enter recovery
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update pacakge...
Opening update pacakge...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted. -after trying the OTA (named update.zip of course)

If this is the Gingerbread OTA, you'll need everything as stock. If it's the "OTA" with Superuser thrown in, you'll need CWM Recovery 3+ (2.5* formats the system in yaffs, 3+ formats it in EXT).
This is just the ota update with wifi calling still 2.2, Im unrooted and stock recovery again

So tonight around 6pm EST I noticed that there was a Cyanogen mod nightly for my wife's Verizon htc one. I also noticed that there was an update function so I decided to give it a try. However, I didn't realize I had yet to make a backup of her current ROM. I thought I had done this when I originally rooted the phone... HUGE MISTAKE NUMBER 1. Once the update was flashed it gave me an error and began boot looping. I tried to find the original version of Cyanogen but could not locate it on the device. Since the HTC One doesn't have an SD card and I Don't have the special OTG USB I couldn't get the storage to mount to add a new ROM. After 2 hours of searching I was finally able to Push a ROM to her device but I kept getting an E: Error executing updater binary... <--- this error I researched only to find that I couldn't flash the rom I was trying to lash in the latest TWRP recovery.
ALL I want to do now is to flash a new recovery to the phone so I can install a ROM and get this paperweight working again.
Can someone please explain to me STEP by STEP what to do here?

It depends on what you are trying to do. You said you wanted to flash a new recovery, so go ahead and do it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2416431
If you want to revert back to stock, go ahead and do that too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475216
But I say your best bet is to just push a ROM in recovery. Are you S-Off?
Also, what commands are you doing to push a ROM? Is the E: drive where your SDK toolkit located?
Karn101,
What ROM and RECOVERY would you suggest I flash?
I had the TWRP 2.6.3.4 touch recovery installed but for some reason it would not allow me to install the following 2 ROMS
1. Google Edition HTC One VZW [KITKAT]
2. Inverted-EclipticONE-KitKat-v1.2
When I did this I kept getting the E: Error executing updater binary which really had me as a loss.
To answer your question I am S-OFF it says UNLOCKED M7_WLV PVT SHIP S-OFF RH @ the bootloader screen.
HBOOT Version is 1.54.000
Also when I was pushing a ROM I was using some commands I found in a guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354259
I followed some of the steps on here with no luck...
Also I attempted to flash several recoveries from Fast boot with the Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img in the command promt. It shows that the files was sent but the phone just get stuck at the bootloader saying loading recovery at the top in blue font.
Can you walk me through each step on this? I need to get a recovery on there first them push a ROM to the device and install it via the recovery.... I am assuming that would be the easiest method.
If your s-off can't you flash the Ruu in fastboot? Maybe that will help

I suggest this as well.
also
"brick" means phone is dead. you're phone turns on..
not a brick.
what i did once when i couldnt flash RUU was it should work S-On and well Its got to work on S-Off
1-Download TWRP recovery also the System.img and boot.img
2-Rename TWRPRecovery6.3xx.img to Recovery.img
3-Flash recovery in fastboot fastboot flash recovery Recovery.img
4-boot into recovery via fastboot fastboot boot recovery.img
This will boot your device into the custom recovery
5-press Backup
6-swipe to confirm
7-after it's done making a backup
8-navigate back to the home screen
9-press Advanced
10-press Mount
11-check the box next to USB-OTG
This will allow to mount your sdcard into the computer and you can copy the system.img from the RUU
12-open folder TWRP open folder BACKUPS ETC ETC until you get to the folder with the backup you just made
13-delete the system.ext4.win delete the system.ext4.win.md5
14-copy the system.img here abd rename it to
15-system.ext4.win
16-then unmount
17-then navigate back to the home page in the recovery and
18-press Restore
19-then choose that backup and swipe to confirm
20-also recommend fastbooting the boot.img
this is what i did when i couldnt get any rom to flash any roms via recovery nor a i could do a RUU saved my phone.
