[Q] Newest Hboot Version - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Right now I'm running Hboot version 0.77.0000 and im just wondering what the most recent version of hboot is because virtous 3.2.0 is saying i need 0.92 to use it
thanks

.92 I'm pretty sure is the newest

I'm searching everywhere. if you can find a link please let us know so I can go download that damn thing...
Found it: http://dougpiston.com/files/Hboot/PB...-0.92.0000.zip
Now I just need the md5 before I try to use this file. remember to rename it and watch the extension.
Can someone please confirm the MD5 sum? this is what I get from the download, but I cant confirm that this is even the right file:
54A82417C62C8B3DDACA785EBDCE6BFB *PB31IMG.zip (IS THIS .92?)
6B665D591D8A02D3165C0F0A67E521D0 *PB31IMG-hboot-0.92.0000.zip (IS THIS .92?)
the difference between these two files is 2MB in size. one of these two files is not correct... need help identifying the correct .92 HBOOT please.

Thanks for the info. Do I just have to name it pmg......
Zip or something like that and just flash it. And can anyone confirm that link?

it should be a .zip file. the name of the file should be PB31IMG.ZIP
Also, you will have to restore the nandroid backup you make prior to flashing hboot as your phone will not boot (boot to recovery, restore from backup) the HBOOT will erase the kernel requiring a restore.
But lets confirm that the link I'm providing is the actual .92 hash before applying, else we can be bricking our phones today.

special thanks to rmk40 for the file location. Here is the info
Hboot Upgrade Instructions
As of Virtuous 3.2.0, hboot 0.92 is now required. This hboot shipped with the original Froyo OTA for the Incredible.
1. Download this file and place it at root of your sdcard.
2. Boot into the bootloader. There are several ways to do this. If you are already booted into Android, use Quickboot and select the Bootloader option. You can also use adb by typing "adb reboot bootloader". Or, simply power down the device. Once it is off, hold the volume down button and then press power.
3. Once in the bootloader, select the first option from the menu "bootloader". You should see a progress bar on the right side of the screen. If you do not, you did not perform step #1 correctly or your sdcard is not formatted FAT32.
4. You will then be prompted to confirm flashing boot, bootloader and recovery. Hit volume up to confirm and then reboot.
5. At this point hboot is upgraded. I recommend reinstalling Virtuous (either via ROM Manager or manually) just to be safe.

Your second Md5 is correct. Mine doesn't include the recovery.

THANK YOU!
I've spent the last 4 hours trying to accomplish this.
Update- I may have spoke to soon. After reboot I now find that my touchscreen isn't working at all. I can boot into hboot, recovery, and all that jazz. Get to the unlock screen, and in some spots there are tiny black lines running through the display. I am wondering if this is because I may have an SLCD screen or vice versa that is incompatible? I am not sure what screen I have, would there be a way to tell?
- I tried wiping dalvik cache and factory resetting, this was said on another forum. Now I am stuck at the HTC splash screen. Any help???
- Never mind. Forgot to use recovery, did a restore, and everything is just snazzy, 0.92 and all. Thanks again! =)

Need to go from AmonRa to Stock Recovery

So, here's where i'm at now after this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732505
I still cannot use any usb functionality other than charging, and i'm running unrooted OTA1.47 now.
I'm at the point where i'm needing to get the AmonRa recovery off and the factory recovery back in place, but i can't find out how to do it.
I see a few posts that say to run the ruu, but that involves running the exe while the phone is connected to a windows workstation through usb. With no USB functionality, i'm kind of at a loss on how to proceed.
Any assistance or direction pointing would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Fixed it.
Using the RUU for 1.47 worked.
I had to open it, then on the first page select "View Readme", then "Save As" for the read me to figure out what directory the temp files went to and what they were named. Looked for rom.zip, copied to my sd card as PC36img.zip. After that, powered on using Power Button and Down volume and let the phone do the rest.
Grabbed the RUU link from here: http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/
If you have a card reader/adapter, use your sdcard with the reader and plug it into your pc. Download and move the zip to the card, more specifically the PC36IMG.zip file. Pu the sdcard back in to your phone. Hold Vol up and power the phone, and let it load the zip file.
Isn't that still a rooted rom?
I actually loaded a 1.47 stock rom, using the PC36IMG.zip way of doing it. It didn't return me to the factory screen after selecting Recovery, and still loaded the AmonRa one.
I'll try that with that specific file next. I'm downloading RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.6_Radio_1.39.00.05.31_release_171253_signed.exe right now to try and extract the factory rom and try that way.
Bump. Still haven't found a way.
When you hold volume down and press power, before you select recovery check on the top and see what version of hboot you have. If you have .76 that means you unlocked the nand and from my understanding this is not reversible yet.

.79 right now i believe.
All you would need then is a copy of the stock recovery and flash it and that will replace AmonRA. I may have been wrong about un-rooting after unlocking nand. Check out this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6783326

I went through that one, downloaded the ruu, ran it, browsed to my temp files for the zip image, put it on the phone, and received the "older version" error when it tried to read and flash it via renaming it to PC36img.zip
I'm trying to find the 1.47 RUU to try those same steps, but haven't had much luck.
Of course, i'm trying to work and browse the forum at the same time, might not be the best plan. lol
Just found it.
Downloading the 1.47 RUU now. Hopefully this can take care of putting the recovery back to oem.
Good luck and please post results. I am interested in this as well in case I ever have to do it for insurance purposes.

Flashing Custom MTD/HBOOT
Once S-OFF is done, you are ready to flash the custom MTD/HBOOT. This step changes your internal memory partition table such that the new RoM can fit appropriately while leaving lot of room for user data. Once this is done, the old RoM will no longer work with the new layout of MTD. Before doing this step, ensure all your backups are in place and you have copied all necessary files to the SD Card. (The ROM .zip and the .zip for HBOOT if you are using method 2 below)
Before you do this, it is a good idea to ensure that your HBOOT download is correct and not corrupted. You can do this but checking the MD5 checksum of your download againts the MD5 checksum listed on alpharev site against the download. You can use any of the free tools available.
There are two ways to do this:
Method 1 - fastboot flash: If you downloaded the .img file linked earlier, use the following procedure to install it:
Power down the phone and turn it back on with the back button pressed down; you will see the "fastboot" screen,
From your PC command line, cd into the folder where your android-sdk is and cd into tools folder,
Connect the phone to PC via USB cable,
Run the following command: 'fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' replacing the .img filename with the appropriate path and file name (Eg: C:\Downloads\HTC\RoM's\bravo_alphaspl-cm7.img),
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
Select bootloader then select Recovery (use volume up/down to change, and power key to accept the choice),
WARNING: Don't reboot your phone as yet because the MTD you flashed doesn't match your current Rom's layout so it will probably boot-loop or brick your phone,
Method 2 - HBOOT autoflash: If you downloaded the .zip file linked earlier, follow this method:
Rename the .zip file to "PB99IMG.zip" and copy it to the root of your SD card,
Shutdown your phone and restart it into HBOOT (Voldown + power button),
When the phone starts, it automatically will detect the zip file and install the MTD,
Now you can enter recovery and follow the procedure.
Note: Many users have had CID errors when trying this method so it is recommended to use Method 1 above

Thank you very much for the posts I have been looking everywhere for good instructions !!
Unfotunately I get the error
"This application has failed to start because adpwinapi.dll was not found. re installing the application may fix this problem"
Do I need to install android SDK manager again?
edit: nevermind. ADB doesnt recognise my phone
Download latest SDK and make sure you download Android SDK platform-tools revision 3, as well (in the additional packages)
Plus you must install the USB drivers from Unrevoked's site.
it gives my this error : cannot load bravo_aplhaspl-oxygen
what should i do?

Ive done both of that,
my list of ADB devices is still blank >.<
Ive tried using HTC sync before trying unrevoked method and still had the same issue
Did you uninstall HTC Sync?
You have to install HTC Sync first, then uninstall it but leave the drivers installed. Then plug the phone in and do the process in the unrevoked-link which davebugyi has already posted.
The adpwinapi.dll-file is in "platform-tools" folder. Just copy that file into the "tools" -folder (the folder, where the fastboot.exe-file is located) and you're done.

No, it shouldn't, but it's strongly sugggested to nandroid backup your phone beforehand.
Can anyone please explain the advantage of flashing a different HBOOT other than stock rooted one?
LOTS more available memory.
i have the oxygen hboot installed and with a dozen apps i still have 267mb free.
with the stock hboot i would be running out of memory by now

This memory would be RAM memory, right? We're not talking free space for installs, but rather free mem space for running apps?
Also, do I have to S-off to flash hboot? So far I only have rooted device (rooted using unREVOKED).
nope we are talking about space for installing apps
the oxygen hboot alters the partition sizes for system and cache.
whats left is the data partition and thats all all yours
Stock Hboot about 147mb data partition
new hboot 337
so 190mb more

[Q] Unrooting my phone. About to give up. Please help.

I followed the 2 step guide posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141
When trying to load the unrevoked-forever-son.zip, I get this error:
E: unsupported radio version
E: Update failed. Check /sdcard/soff.log.
E: Error in /sdcard/unrevoked (status 42)
When i went to research on how to downgrade the radio version, I find out that newer versions don't let you downgrade.
I'm not even sure what my friend used to unroot my phone. unrevoked or revolutionary?
Here are my stats:
Supersonic EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.17.0001
MICROP-041f
RADIO-2.15.00.05.02
Please please help. I'm about to give up and cough up the $100 for a new phone as my screen is completely broken. What do I need to do to get this phone unrooted?
Unrevoked s-on is not for your phone. Look for the "how to unroot revolutionary root" its the one with alot of? ?????? In the title. Use the search or Google it

Hello,
I am in the same boat. I recently purchased a EVO4G from a friend. The phone was rooted and I would like it to be unrooted. I've tried to unroot myself but it hasn't work. There was a pretty good guide here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141 that I tried to follow. Unfortunately, I could not get the UnRevoked S ON Tool to work and I ran the PC36IMG.zip file. I seem to be stuck in a loop and I cannot get past the HBOOT screen. Also, when I go to Recovery, I get a Red Triangle with an exclamation point.
The information on the phone is as follows:
SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.79.000
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL226_16ab
RADIO-1.39.00.04.26

8. Enjoy newly unrooted phone
Zip file will replace EVERYTHING. Stock splash screen, boot animation, up to date OTA release, recovery, S-ON, and HBOOT.
I used this method last night when unrooting my phone because I thought I would have to take my phone into Sprint today. However, running this zip happened to resolve the issue I was having so I turned around and rooted again.
I would give credit to whomever it was I saw this unroot process from but unfortunately it was late and I was sleep deprived so I do not remember. Either way, I do not take credit for it whatsoever. If I come across the one who suggested it I will edit this post and give the credit that user is due.

I used the RUU method for unrooting my phone. Phone shows S-ON. But HBOOT still shows 6.17.0001. I'm sending the phone back to Sprint for a replacement b/c the charging port is loose.

OK, I figured out that, for some reason, the MBP was not reading the file as a .zip so I actually zipped it, loaded it onto the SD card and went into Bootloader. It found the file as a bar on the right side of the phone displayed and began to fill up. During this process, the following was on the screen:
Loading
PC36DIAG.ZIP
No Image
Loading
PC36DIAG.nbh
No image
Then after the blue bar fills the screen changes for a second and it says Parsing
Then it goes back to the Fastboot screen.
Any ideas?
Also, someone that unroots phones told me the issue I am having is called a "Soft Brick". Can anyone help?!
Thanks

What you are seeing are not the files you are trying to flash. You are trying to flash a PC36IMG.zip file, not a PC36DIAG file. You said you zipped the file on your own. You have to make sure that when it is zipped it is done so as a storage file and not with any type of compression. If you compress the file when it zips then it will not flash. So remove the zip file from your sd card, rezip it using ONLY storage method, recopy it to your SD card and then try to flash it. Make sure it is named PC36IMG.zip EXACTLY as I have written it. Also, make sure there are no other PC36IMG.zip files on your SD card at all. Otherwise you can cause problems.

Using that method will send you COMPLETELY back to stock. That method modifies your splash screen, boot animation, operating system, hboot version, radio update, and a few other things. When you flash that file you will be 100% stock, unrooted, and up to date.

The red triangle means that you do not have a recovery installed on your phone. If you can get into HBoot then use the method I posted above with the PC36IMG.zip file. That will take care of everything for you in one simple and painless step (including the red triangle).

Thank you for the help and now pardon my ignorance. What do you mean by zipping using a storage method? Is this normally an option in zip programs? Right now I only have the zip program that comes with OSX and The Unarchiver but I believe that is only for unzipping. Do you have any suggestions? EDIT: I found a program called Keka. Under the options, I picked "Store". I ran the zip, transferred the file to the memory card and the phone did not recognize the file. I even tried to download the file again from the post above and rezipped it using "Store", transferred it and tried again...same result. I am stuck.
In the past, I've tried to rename the file PCIMG36.zip without zipping it and the phone could not find the file.
Thanks

[Q] Incredible not booting into Recovery

Hey guys,
I've been running CM7 on my phone for a quite some time now, but now all of a sudden all my apps force close when opened. I tried a week a go to enter recovery (before the force closes) both manually and from RM with no luck. I can enter bootloader manually but when I choose recovery it just gives me the white HTC Incredible page and sits there with taking the battery out as the only option.
Any suggestions on what the problem is?
Thanks in advance.
Have you tried flashing recovery again?
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
does that require RM? Because I can't open it as it FC's on me everytime...
Ok so from bootloader i tried a factory reset, and the same HTC Incredible splash screen. I think the problem is something to with the flashing, because when i start bootloader it says something about some .zip file not having an image. (sorry about sounding like a noob).

Flash recovery thru hboot (vol down plus power while phone is off) as a PB31IMG.zip, RM is not needed. You can get the recovery here http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=28. Download the PB31IMG.zip file and place it on your sd card in no folders. Boot into hboot, it will find the file and prompt to press vol up to apply. Then vol up to reboot. Then boot into hboot and select recovery.
In recovery, wipe everything in mounts and storage and also dalvik cache, and then flash the rom of your choice or restore a known working nandroid.
Thank You! I really appreciate it.
Saved me from throwing my phone at a wall
I downloaded the file, renamed to PB311MG.zip, moved to root of SD card (no folders) and when I boot into hboot, it does not recognize the file. Im just stuck @ bootloader, when I try to boot into recovery, HTC Incredible pops up for a second, and I'm right back where I was. Any clues?

That is an incorrect label. It must be: PB31IMG.zip
The number "31" is followed by the letter "I" in the .zip file name. Also, have you revealed file extensions with your preferred file explorer? You must avoid labeling the file "PB31IMG.zip.zip"

2 things....That was a typo on my end....it was a 31IMG, not 311MG, and my mistake was adding the .zip. I was able to get into recovery, did my wipes, and am restoring a back up as I write this. Thanks for the help.
Not a problem so long as everything is squared away for you.

[Q] Stuck on 2.2.1

I bought a HTC Droid Incredible 2 on Ebay (flashed to straight talk) and I'm trying to root it, but sadly i can't update to gingerbread (im stuck on 2.2.1 and can't unlock bootloader or anything ) I've searched all over, under, and around the interwebz but there seems to be no fix . Please help me Android gods so I can pimp my phone out :fingers-crossed:
RUU - ROM Update Utility
I was in this situation once. What you need is a signed RUU (ROM Update Utility) for Gingerbread 2.3.3. Once you have 2.3.3, you'll be able to root and (if desired) obtain S-OFF so that you can install custom ROMs, etc.
Follow these steps carefully. I am not responsible for any damage to your phone.
Download this zip file: http://d-h.st/yJQ
Expand the ZIP file. Inside it, you will find RUU_Vivo_W_Gingerbread_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.18.605.3_Radio_1.09.01.0622_NV_VZW1.92_release_199487_si.zip
Verify that the md5sum of that file is cea499f51b40055ffd118960e1e73255. This is critically important. It ensures that your copy of the RUU has not been corrupted. If the MD5 does not match, start over from step 1. A corrupted RUU will likely brick your phone. MD5 checker app for Android
Rename the RUU zip file to PG32IMG.zip and put it at the top level of your SD card.
Confirm that your battery has plenty of charge, because RUU installations should never be interrupted for any reason. If they are interrupted, you could brick your phone. I recommend plugging your phone into a charger.
Turn off your phone. Hold down both the power and the volume down buttons to enter fastboot.
The word "BOOTLOADER" should have a blue background behind it, indicating that is highlighted. If not, highlight it using volume up or volume down. Once it's highlighted, press the power button to enter the bootloader (hboot).
Hboot will scan your SD card and detect the RUU file, PG32IMG.zip, and ask if you want to install it.
Select yes. DO NOT INTERRUPT RUU INSTALLATION FOR ANY REASON
Reboot the phone, and you should have 2.3.3 Gingerbread.
Remove PG32IMG.zip from your SD card, or at least rename it.
For more info, such as how to obtain S-OFF and ClockwordMod Recovery (for custom ROM installation), read the "Revolutionary" section of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796
For custom ROMs to try on your Incredible 2, go to our development forum. I myself use Chillybean's unofficial build of CyanogenMod 10.1, currently with b-team kernel version 7. CyanogenMod is by far the most popular custom ROM for Android, and CM 10.1 is based on Android 4.2.2. There are also Incredible 2 ROMs for Android 4.3 and 4.4, but I've avoided them because from what I've read they seem to have more bugs right now. 4.4 ROMs in particular are extremely experimental right now, more of a proof of concept to briefly try. If you care more about stability and battery life than having the latest Android versions, download the official CyanogenMod 7.2 stable which is based on Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread.

Is the whole thing the RUU file and needs renamed? or just RUU_Vivo_W_Gingerbread_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.18.605.3_Ra dio_1.09.01.0622_NV_VZW1.92_release_199487_si.zip

Again, verify the MD5 hash once it's on the SD card. Do not skip that step.

Okay, I did everything exactly how you said, the md5 was right, i renamed the file, put it on top layer, but when i go to hboot (it starts up in hboot and automatically checks for images) it doesn't find anything.
Make sure you didn't make a typo in the name. It should be PG32IMG.zip. That's a capital i, not a lowercase L, and it may be case sensitive. Also, make sure file extensions are visible to you in whatever program you're using to rename, because if they're hidden you might have actually named the file PG32IMG.zip.zip.
Another possible cause is that for whatever reason the forums are putting a space in the long file name (should be Radio not Ra dio), which could be a problem if you're using the command line to rename and move.
Of course, make sure that the SD card is properly seated in your phone.
Just a few guesses off the top of my head. I have to go now. If it's something else maybe someone else can help.
This is my software information and my boot screen if it helps any.

There is no typos and I am manually changing the name from my PC by connecting phone as a harddrive, there is no space in radio.
The only thing i can think of is "Rename the RUU zip file to PG32IMG.zip and put it at the top level of your SD card." mayhap I'm spose to put the WHOLE miniadb_inc.zip on top layer? or just PG32IMG.zip?
Just PG32IMG.zip. The other files in that outer zip are for people downgrading from 2.3.4, not for people upgrading from Froyo like you are.
In hboot, what does it say at the very top of your screen?

Try this: "turn on USB Debugging under Settings>Apps>Development, and disable fastboot under Settings>Power"
I got that from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796

idk what happened but it finally worked, now im trying to unlock bootloader (i think thats next for full root) but when I use
fastboot oem get_identifier_token in command prop I get
<bootloader> [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [ 0.008s ]
finished. total time: 0.009s
Which is the exact same problem i had beforehand and why i was trying to up grade to gingerbread -___-
Actually, the next step is to get S-OFF. That is the preferred way to unlock the bootloader, not the HTC unlock.
Read the "Revolutionary" section of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796. Revolutionary will give you S-OFF and will also install ClockwordMod (CWM) as your custom recovery. Through the custom recovery you can install custom ROMs, but for the Incredible 2 you'll want to replace CWM with 4EXT afterwards.
