Adding international code when recieving calls? - Windows Phone 7 General

Hey!
I am lately seeing this issue. When I receive international calls, I dont see the plus code (357) in the callerid. Also they dont get identified from my phone book who have the numbers with the plus codes (357).
Any help?

might be best to post this on the social microsoft pages and ask them directly. there aren't any settings at the moment to cater for this issue.

Thanks for the reply and advise

Bonkers text message

Hi all,
very strange this. There are four users of XDA-devices in my office (all on T-Mobile), myself (XDA2s), an XDA2, and two Imates (the XDA2 ones). Now, at random times throughout the day we will all recieve a text message with no sender number, but the text of the message is '13779538669'. I have never received this message on my other mobile phone (SE K700i, Voda), and I don't receive it on my Nokia when I use my T-Mobile SIM card in there!
I also only receive this message when I'm in this particular area (WA15, Hale, Cheshire), although a colleague says he gets it when he goes near Manchester Airport (5 miles from here).
What the hell? I know, I wouldn't believe it either unless I'd seen it happening but I promise you, it does happen!
In case you don't believe me :

Any thoughts?
Thanks
Dan
Its possible to send no-number SMS messages from services like http://theSMSzone.com
Maybe one of your friends is playing a prank on you?

Thanks for the reply. It seems unlikely that this is a prank, as four different people get the message and only when we are in the office, or near to the airport! I think it's a broadcast from somewhere nearby, I dunno, I'm still confused :?
Can you check what message centre the message is coming from?
Are these messages Premium-based ?(do they show up on your bill?)
Vodafone NL is unable to send out messages with the normal four-digit numbers... (5 for the uk). Instead they use eleven-digit numbers...
Perhaps in the UK it's the same?
I'd check if you have to pay for receiving those messages...
On the Vodafone website you should be able to retreive info on who's using the specific number...
Goog luck!
might be sent via bluetooth (could be an ad that hasnt displayed right) or it can be send from the internet witch sounds most likley

Agreed.
Especially since SMS's like these seem to be free coming from theSMSzone.com
Hi,
thanks for the replies, and sorry for the delay in me coming back! The messages aren't coming from a Bluetooth device, because my Bluetooth is always switched off unless I'm in the car.
I don't know how to find the service centre they're coming from, can anybody tell me how?
The messages do not appear on our bills. One thing I've noticed, now that I've upgraded to the 1.40 ROM, is that the sender now has a name of 'Network' rather than blank as it was before.
Obviously there's no harm in these messages, but they're a pain and I'd like to work out where they're coming from to satisfy my own curiousity[sp]!
my uncle has the same thing qith hi unlocked xda2i
he has a t mobile contarct and the messages seem to come fromthe network,
i will have to speak to him to find out why and when they come, but my advice is to ask tmobile about theae messages as i belive there comming from them.

Hi Ariel,
thanks for your post, and great to hear someone else has this problem and not just us! I spoke today to our service provider, who'd never heard of this before, so he spoke to T-Mobile who also claim to have never heard of this before. They want me to keep a log of dates/times when the message appears  , so that's what I'll do.

...have you tried to disable cell broadcast in your phone settings menu? this looks very much like a cell broadcast message, i can enable this on my german vodafone used device and get the area code on this way but i get also lots of bull**** notifications taht way. go to settings/phone and i guess its the third tab on the bottom (maybe fourth) where you can find channel settings for cell broadcast - unable it and it should be gone.
feedback welcome!
cheers, lutz

Hi Lutz,
thanks for the suggestion. I'm on the 1.4 ROM, so there are five tabs at the bottom of that screen; Phone, Services, Network, Band, More. In More, there is Broadcast Channels, and this box is unticked.
Thanks again
Dan

Group Texting

Is this only working when everyone uses Windows Phones?
Tried it today and the conversations weren't threaded at all. It basically put my outgoing in one thread and replies from people all in their own threads. It was impossible to follow the conversation.
Has anyone tried it?
Yes it have it set to use MMS for group texting and all the devices I was texting were Android and iPhone devices.
Edit: and yea, I'm 100% sure it wasn't using different protocols for different people, since they were sitting next to me when I tested it...
Also, replies from others in the group were only coming to me, which made it impossible for anyone else to follow the conversation.

Did any of the iPhones have iMessage enabled? I know it reverts to SMS if the recipient does not support iMessage. I suspect for Group messaging, it will revert to MMS. I am wondering if there may be an issue if some are MMS and others are iMessage.
Also, with iPhone's the numbers of all recipients are visible to all recipients.
http://www.moxiemoshow.com/group-messaging-iphone/
When you sent messages to the group, were all numbers visible to all recipients?
I am wondering if Mango implemented group text messaging in a way that does not expose the numbers of all recipients. If the numbers for all recipients are not visible to all recipients, then Windows Phone 7 and the iPhone don't implement it the same. So, on one of your friends phones, check to see if all numbers are visible for messages you sent. Since their replies only went to you, I suspect they are not receiving the numbers of all recipients.
I don't know how Android implements Group messaging. Since you didn't say any of your friends had issues, I am guessing it is the same way the iPhone does it. This probably means that iMessage isn't a factor.
Unfortunately, I cannot test this because I ported the number for my LG Quantum to Google Voice to use on my iPhone that work pays for. At some point, I will be getting a prepaid SIM to put in my Quantum so that I can test things, but I have not done so yet.
All I could see on the vibrant was that I got a message from myself. Nothing about other numbers. Biggest reason I wanted to do this is so that I can cc myself in every thread I start, giving me the ability to respond transparently from any of my devices.
Was traveling for 12 hours and people got confused when I swapped devices (and.sometimes I plain.just don't feel like switching off what I'm using at that moment). Don't think I message was the issue, since the android phones aren't working either.
I knowbiys sending an mms cause.I can see the empty subject field on all of the devices.
Maybe it only works for instant.messages?
This keyboard has the worse Autocorrect ever.

There are lots of legitimate shortcomings of this wonderful platform, this is not one of them.
I mass-text enough. And I have never expected their responses to show up in the mass text field. How on earth would that be engineered?

Although i haven't used the group texting, i wouldn't expect it either to do what i think he is thinking it would do.
Windows Phone keeps history on all your contacts and what each contact has said under that contact. It's not a forum with all of your users joining a thread and posting for all to see. It would make sense that the response to your text came from just that person. It's not designed to let everyone see the response, only the response coming from that person to you. If it allowed more than it would be group instant messaging or group chat. That is not what it is.
Also... isn't what you are trying to do, what email is for? would make more sense.

Funny thing. The OP posted about this in another thread stating that Android doesn't support group messaging. Somehow it became a Windows Phone 7 issue.
In any case the mods removed that post for other reasons and disabled his account. I only saw the post in an email, because I get emails of all posts to the thread he posted in. When I actually went to the thread it was all cleaned up. Since this is the 2nd disabling in a short period of time, it may be permanent.
iPhone does implent group sms so that when iPhone users text each other using group SMS, it effectivey is like a chat room. Responses go to all recipients. All recipients receive the phone numbers of all recipients which allows reply to send responses to all recipients.
I am not sure if Windows Phone 7 group SMS does something similar to this when all phones are Windows Phone 7. To me this feature is primarly useful for event organizers, such as the captain of my softball team that sends things out to all of us, such as weather updates or asking if we know of anyone that can sub. Not as much for a big chat.
I don't have an active SIM for my LG Quantum, so I can't test it.
I have always thought of group texting as more of a way to send for example a merry xmas to all your friends (like 80 or so) in one clip. You don't want all your friends getting all 80 responses (that may kill someones text plan if they have limited)
Interesing that the iphone does that. you would think it wouldn't due to the above issue or to use a different transport.

On the iPhone,
It doesn't send 80 messages to each recipient. It just includes all 80 phone numbers with the message.
But, if they reply, it will reply to all 80.
Somehow the replies from iPhones doing this only count as 1 message though.

yeah i meant on the reply. hmm interesting ... maybe they included it in there plan... actually can you get limited messaging on an iphone plan? Maybe that is why?

I think it is because group messing is actually MMS, not SMS.
This blog explains it well. http://shawnblanc.net/2010/12/iphone-group-messaging/
So, it uploads the message once.
Also, iPhone users have the free benefit of iMessage which gives unlimited messaging regardless of carrier between all iPhone OS 5 users. This also applies to iTouch and iPads.
So, on AT&T with my iPhone, I can message and iPhone on Verizon and Sprint for no charge. And to us it seems no different than SMS, except the background color is blue instead of green.
I turned group text off the minute I found out what it was I have a feeling most people don't know what they are actually doing when they use it. Whenever one goes out, I always end up with a bunch of unnecessary texts from people I don't even know.

[Q] Annoying Texts - Recent

I'm hoping someone can help me out...
Late last week I changed my ROM to HenseMod7 (for VM) - to give it a try and because some of the other ROMs I had been trying were giving me issues with MMS, calls and other things. All was good - or so I thought.
A day or two after I made the change - I started getting text messages from 999-999-9999. These text messages are all gibberish - letters, symbols and numbers mixed together. They always come two messages together and about 12 hours apart (so about 4 per day). I delete them as soon as I see they are in my list.
I saved the contact to my phone and blocked it as a caller.
I went onto the VM website and logged into my account and blocked the "number" for text messages - but since I know it isn't a "real" number - you've probably guessed it - I'm still getting these messages.
Might this be something related to the ROM somehow? I mention that only because all the other ROMs I've tried since I rooted my phone have not had this particular issue. This is the first time I've gone back to a Sense-styled ROM (made particularly for VM) and it's the only time I've gotten these spam texts.
I hesitate calling VM about this issue if it could/might be related to the ROM since I know they are less than helpful when you root your phone.
Any thoughts, ideas, input or help would be so very much appreciated.
Thanks all!

Hi,
Your problem is very strange and honestly, I tried HenseMod and I didn't get this error. It is although true that this ROM has some problems with text messages as I couldn't send a long message (the ROM could not split the long message into several small messages of 160 characters).
I can see only two solutions : either you change of ROM (there are maaanny good ROMs for the Wildfire S) either you reinstall your ROM, verifying you have the good version for your phone model (marvel, marvelc, etc.). Maybe you can also update your radio if you can do it and know how to do it, but I guess it wouldn't be really helpful in that case.
Do you think these messages come from a real person ? Maybe there are some network problems, or maybe the ROM cannot read the message from a particular network / phone, I don't know.
Good luck

just another option it could be a service network message that is not coming through properly. in the uk when you activate your sim card in a new phone uk carriers send you a text message that contains the network settings to get online. if your access point is not already configured
it could be getting scrambled somehow. if you can you could try to contact your phone carrier. go into a hop if possible and ask them if they have kept any logs of sending you service messages. if so maybe try to cross reference them and see?
Thank you both Izzy and Heavy_Metal_Man for your thoughts on this.
Since I first posted the question, I have changed ROMs and the problem has stopped. This is the curious thing. I have been trying different ROMs on my phone since I first rooted it last winter and only with HenseMod have I had this kind of annoyance.
In searching the internet on this - I have found posts by other Virgin Mobile users about this same issue. At one point someone mentioned that it was some kind of message from "Telus" (which is a Canadian provider - but I live in the US - and quite a distance from Canada). Most of those posts were from non-US users.
I do receive updates from VM without issue - so I don't think it's that.
I have a Marvel C phone if that adds anything to the equation.
Thanks again for your input. Anyone else have thoughts?

So the problem really comes from the ROM and it isn't really strange because HenseMod is known to have some SMS bugs
My first thoughts were some kind of loopback error related to cell broadcasts and/or emergency message notifications. If you consider the times you mentioned, have some imagination, and throw in some cross-talk pollution it might even jive with what h_m_m (heavy_metal_man) was saying (in terms of it repeating); however, when I looked at the ROM, it's strictly GB/CM7 and those features weren't incorporated until ICS. So I'm gonna say that h_m_m has the most plausible reason. Thank goodness you found another ROM that works and can move on and leave the problem to those who want to keep trying to figure it out.
Ive had another thought about it. What base version is the Rom made from? If it's based from a carrier specific Rom and then "De-carrierized" it may have been conflicts left in the networking configuration that made the cdma/gsm believe it was in another country and needed roaming data settings. In any event I'm glad your sorted pal

Thank you!
Thank you all for your thoughts and comments on this matter. I truly appreciate it!
As I previously mentioned, once I changed the ROM - the annoying texts stopped. So perhaps (as others have mentioned) it may be a quirk of the ROM itself.
I do like trying different ROMs - makes me feel like I've got a new phone for a brief time, while I still have my little Wildfire S. Its a fun "exercise" for me. Wish some more developers would build for the MarvelC though.
Thank you all again!

Can't receive texts from other Android users

HTC One M9 (Verizon)
To be more specific, I am not receiving texts from a specific person.
My texts go through, and when she responds her messages say the are sent on her end, but I never receive them.
She is on T-Mobile and she has an Android device.
So far this is the only person I have issues with. I receive texts from my other friends from T-mobile, At&t and Verizon. Also no issues with them whether its Android or iPhone. This seems to be a very isolated event.
She's not blocked as far as I could tell. I do not have any numbers blocked in any list I can find.
I saw some suggestions on a different forum about placing people on a spam list, but I don't seem to have that option. That suggestion was for a galaxy phone. I have also tried deleting her number and adding a new contact with that number.
If anyone has other ideas, please assist.
Thanks all.
