I have a stock EVO with the latest updates as of 12-19-10 and want to 'root' it so I can enable the hot spot, watch Hulu and remove all the lame apps that come with the updates; Amazon, Blockbuster, etc. I've been reading for the last few days, really, and I can honestly say I'm overwhelmed not only by the processes and forums and links and rom, ruu, amon ra(you get the point), but also the response of those helping, you truly are a talented and dedicated group of people, so, Thank You.
(APPLAUSE!!!)
Now, please help me. My problem is the instructions start out very simple and then by step 6 or 7 its do this, this and or this then maybe this if this. So I was thinking that if some body wanted to walk me through step by step for this scenario it would not only help me but the others out there in my position, I know this will repeat work done on many other threads but that is the part of the problem, too many threads.
So...
Step One..

I want to do a full root of my EVO and really don't want to screw it up. I am very computer literate but have never rooted a phone before and am new to all things in that regard . Basically I want to be able to remove all the Sprint bloatware, be able to load various roms and a few other things but most importantly, I want to be able to revert my phone back to complete pre-root stock if the need should arise.
So what I am asking is for one of the more experienced devs here to spend a little time with me on the phone and walk me through everything step by step, and answer any questions I might have and give me any pointers that I might not be aware of. I understand that everyone is very busy working their magic that I have seen just from lurking here for a while, and I am more than willing to compensate you for your time through paypal. I'm hoping to do this sometime within a week or so.
If anyone is willing to help I would greatly appreciate it.
Not to Burst your bubble or anything, but there are TONS of guides that will help you. Most of them are step-by-step.
Here's a good source for the guides-
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC Evo Guides And Tutorials
If you plan to tackle rooting, I would suggest that you do it the right way the first time. Unrevoked is more of a joke if you ask me. All it does is create problems because the people who "Root" that way know nothing about how the phone works.
Learn ADB. The hardest part of adb is installing the files. Everything else is simply copying and pasting what the devs tell you too.
I don't have the time to walk you through it, and probably wouldn't be able to answer all your questions.
Good luck in finding someone to help you, if you attempt to do it by yourself, just post back where you get stuck and there are plenty of great people that will help you along the way.
Thanks, and welcome to the community!
Evan
Hey everyone.
First of all, I have to apologize for posting a new thread; I still haven't reached 8 posts, so just had to start a new one.
I'm having my Wildfire around a month, and I was really avoiding getting close to Android Technical Stuff or similar things; but it's almost 4 days that I'm trying to Upgrade the phone to move to Gingerbread.
Believe it or not, I've almost downloaded 750 MBs of data! and reading lots of tutorials, but still getting to nowhere. Probably a part is that I'm afraid the phone goes bricked and losing it is a pain in the ass for such a dummy in case of Android!
I'm pretty sure all the driver are correctly installed, nothing with a yellow Triangle (Thanks God!) in DveMan.
------------
When tryin to gain S-OFF using Revolutionary, it shows a message like the attachment down there:
"Your device: buzz with HBOOT 1.01.0002 is not supported this time. Press almost.... "
While I've read it works fine with versions later than 1.01.x. Do I really need to downgrade it? I just need a pro advising me to do that, cause no one likes a damaged phone or help me out if there's another option..
After first trials, I learned to anticipate the methods not working! Now I'm such an Iron Man to the failures BTW, I definitely appreciate your help with this. OQ
You have to downgrade to 1.01.0001 in that case, unfortunately. There is a guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132028
Yes, you have to download 140MB again, unfortunately.
"Wildfire Root, S-OFF
Man, was that complete index your work? That's a huge content. Good job, that was really comprehensive.
No problem, I guess I'll have to buy some more gig$ before the internet subscription finishes! I gotta download that.
Thanks a lot.
lol, it turned that huge when I tried to make it as comprehensive as possible, as you stated. I should have reserved 10 posts, so to make 1 point in 1 post, but I guess its too late. (And I didn't reserve posts because it started out as just a Custom ROMs List, nothing else)
Thank you though.
Well, that's much better since scrolling up & down through posts can sometimes be confusing; in case some other users may interrupt the process.
P.s. I gotta get back soon with more questions
Ok, for starters i'll apologise for A - Being a noob (We've all got to start somewhere I suppose!) & B - Possibly having put this question in the wrong category. (Hope not,but mistakes do happen!)
OK, i'm running a rooted Wildfire S with Wildchild as a custom ROM, but frankly i'm fed up of the (Even after rooting) lack of memory. Not wanting to commit to a 24 month contract upgrade (& have warranties,etc... to consider), i've found a nicely priced Desire HD i'm toying with buying.
I'm wondering how hard they are to root (A lot of threads here seem to be titled "HELP, PHONE STUCK," & the like & just wanted to gather a few opinions from those more experienced (Everyone on here,by all accounts ) about whether the handset is a good option &/or possible alternatives, before I commit to part with my hard earned in exchange for a possible problem child!!
Cheers & apologies for my noobness.
If you understand this, then you are good to go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38543349
Also, check my signature for more info.
Sent from a dream.
Thanks for your reply.
I understand most of it. (I tend not to go gung-ho at things, when I rooted & custom ROM'd my Wildfire I took my time & read & re-read guides & suggestions before starting. Most of it is easily remembered!)
Not 100% sure about making a Goldcard, but that's what these forums & Google are for, aren't they?) As such, i'll figure it out & if I can't/don't/get stuck, i'll be back with my SOS flags out shouting "Help" at the top of my voice!!
Cheers for the response. Like I said, i'm a bit of a noob at this. Phones' take me out of my comfort zone, I'm a PC hardware man by & large, but I learn fast. Lol, perhaps one day, i'll be giving the advice, not asking the questions.
Thou art a Gentleman & a scholar. Thank you.

Somewhere around the last so many pages is a script for the GC.
Take it easy.
P.S. Scholar due to my sig? That was mostly team effort. They deserve the credit.
Sent from a dream.
I shall indeed take it easy, step by step & do much reading everything twice or perhaps three times before I attempt anything.
"Gentleman & a Scholar" is a phrase I use in lieu of words like "You're very kind". I find it a more interesting phrase. That said, I doff my cap & raise a glass in salute of you & your team for your scripts. I had a click on your signature; It gave me some food for thought.
Thanks once again.
Has anyone found any tutorial videos on how to root, install custom recovery(TWRP looks tough to be entirely honest) and custom roms?
It always boosts my confidence to see someone successfully installing custom things.
Also I have never used LG products and have no idea how to do basic things such as getting in recovery etc. I have experience with samsung phones but nothing other than this:/ Would anyone be kind enough to redirect me or make some tutorial videos:$?
Kind regards
Also if you are interested please show your support to this topic

There are highly detailed and step-by-step guides on how to do it on the board. You know they work by people saying that it did and the lack of threads freaking out that their device is thrashed. Please be thankful for what you've got and just read what we put together.

Wow. I do not understand your negativity, this would only help newer users like me and keep people like you having less to critisize. As for the detailed guides which you mention either I have not stumbled across them(in which case you could point out but you dont seem to want to help from your initial responce) or we have a different understanding of detailed step by step guides.
Either way if you do not want to help I suggest not responding and being thankful that you have the option to cary on with your schedule, reading what you feel is more important.
Thank you for stopping by and pointing out your opinion

As far as resources it mainly comes from doing this a bunch and reading the thread, the way I did it was different than the twrp thread in a couple ways, I'll explain in a bit

Just do research instead of asking others to provide you with videos. If you learn it yourself and learn the ins and outs, it'll benefit you greatly when something inevitably goes wrong and you can figure it out yourself instead of relying heavily on others. As you move step by step in the guides, if something doesn't make sense to you, just Google it. It's not hard when you get used to doing it. Not trying to be mean or rude, but if you don't want to help yourself, we can't help you.

i will give him one thing though there is a pretty vital command missing in the twrp thread to get it to execute, or at least from how I did it on every other device
here is a link to a video on how to access recovery via the 3 button method.
I recorded it with my phone so I am sorry/not sorry about the quality but it gets the job done.
also i can relate with you on wanting to see it visually, even as somebody who knows what they are doing, especially things involving button combo's I have a harder time reading than if i just saw a 30 second video on how to do it.
http://youtu.be/uo3YfszOPsQ
as for the recovery flash that's a little more involved and i already have my device rooted so if i did it, it would be from CM, and i'm not entirely sure if that would cause a problem (i don't think so though because loki is cool like that)

Dude get over it you seem to have far too much time on your hands.
I didnt ask for anyone to make videos i asked if anyone knew of any videos. Since you didnt want to help or still dont get off the bloody topic. There is no point of doing what you did. If you wonna be arrogant im sure you have friends and family for that. Im fed up with your negativity. If you didnt want to be rude you could of just said im sorry i dont like sharing or helping noobs and moved on.
Thank you for annoying me 2day I wish you well. And when you get stuck on something and require other peoples help on a FORUM They all redirect you to google so you understand what a joke your responce is.
Ps didnt mean to be rude. But if you didnt know the meaning of a forum now you do.

I will repeat again.i did not ask for anyone to go out of their way and make videos i asked if anyone found videos. That by no means says i am not greatful for the small and perfect video you made. Rooting seems to be very easy its the recovery that I am having doubts about cause it seems to be a lengthy procedure. And requires what seems to be a ton of commands
Good afternoon,
My name is JJ and my phone or service has taken a dump.
I have the Unlimited Plan with MetroPCS and its paid. I was on the phone today for an hour (on another device) and they have no idea what seems to be the problem. I live in great coverage zone. I have been having troubles connecting to the mobile network as well as getting, receiving both calls and texts. When I am connected to WiFi I am fine..ish. I set up apn settings a few times, most recent today with MetroPCS. My IMEI is good, paid in full phone which is a SM-G925T-ZDETMB (Galaxy s6 edge orginally from T-Mobile)
Took it to the store and they looked at me like I am a monkey.
I need my phone for work and can't afford to get another one. It seems to be in great working order other wise. I figure I might as well flash it and root it and make it mine or something. I downloaded ODIN and got freaked out because I have no clue what I am doing.
Be cool to flash it or root it with Nougat. Is that possible?
So I was hoping for a step by step guide here.
My service and phone worked great until about two weeks ago,..now its as intermittent and flipp flopped as Trump and his hair and policies. Thanks again in advance. Looking forward to a speedy reply. I got nothing else going on.
These forums are really dead for this device, you can root using this link: https://download.chainfire.eu/732/C...F-Auto-Root-zeroltetmo-zeroltetmo-smg925t.zip
There is no Nougat for us. You can flash new ROMs which give better battery life and other nice goodies, you can flash it after you root and install TWRP.
Sorry

Anyway you could give me a step by step? What is flashing compared to rooting? What is a ROM? No obligation here on this noob here.
Whats the difficulty with simply reading the threads here on the subject you're interested in? I mean after all, thats why they're here. If not, there'd be a million threads asking for step by step instructions. It seems like you have the competence to write your issue why not take it a step further and use the search button. Its clear you dont have any specific questions, youre simply looking for root instructions which have been posted and utilized by the thousands of other users who did use the search button. For whatever reason if youre needing these personalized Id suggest using your imagination and pretending they're written directly for you.
If youre still having issues, with this rather simple task that my 8 year old cousin could do by himself than perhaps rooting isnt your thing.. What youre asking is more basic than basic itself. By the way, when searching and reading you'll actually be gaining knowledge!
My apologies if you suffer from any health issues or current mental conditions that prevent you from these tasks..
Good luck
