Google Backup? Wow...

So I enabled this on CM6 not too long ago, I recently wiped and updated to the latest version of it, and low and behold all my applications started getting installed from the Market on their own... How does this work, and is my data going to be there as well?

It only restore the Market-downloadable applications. Your data (unless on an SD card) will not be restored.

Yea, no data was restored... kinda crappy... oh well, better than nothing.

TI Backup is much better and much more versatile. Worth the money.

You just sparked my interest. What are you talking about? I've googled it but haven't found anything yet. Searched in market too.

Oh. If that's what you're talking about then I'll pass.

Google backup restores wifi profiles too.
But I love titanium and did purchase the full version.
Swyped on my EVO

I use Titanium Backup because it backs up my settings, apps, data, preferences, WiFi networks, Bluetooth pairings, Cyanogenmod Settings, etc.
Really, all I do after a wipe is to skip to the home screen, open market, add my Google Account, download Titanium Backup, and go to Menu>Batch>Restore everything

It's a Google backup feature...enabled in cm roms only...it's actually quite nice if you are flashing roms everyday

Is there anyway to get rid of the backup feature, it's pretty pointless without data and I'd rather restore my apps with Titanium...
I just wiped and reflashed and when it asked if I wanted to use Google backup, I unchecked the box, but it started downloading everything anyway...
Nevermind, I found it...

So as far as I understand it, this is part of the ASOP. So way did htc/sprint take it out?

Titanium is awesome and worth every penny for the paid version if you switch roms frequently. If you don't mind a little extra button mashing the free version works well.
It saves data and the version of the app your backing up. Which is really useful if you don't want the updated version of any particular app.

Now that we have perm root, titanium backup

guys, i cant stress this enough and i'm sure the old android heads here will agree with me. their are many many different android phones out there that have root. And although they're all different they all have a few apps in common. setcpu, rom manager, terminal, titanium back up.
I just want to touch base on Titanium backup.
It allows you to totally remove any app, including bloat ware. You can also suspend apps.
the freeze feature was handy because i enjoy sense but didn't like its apps and widgets hogging ram for no reason; considering i never used those sense apps. it netted in a nice battery and performance gain, at least.
one awesome thing about TB is the ability to back up your apps and reinstall all of them. the whole experience is as streamlined as batch market downloading and waaaaaay better than astro file managers one at a time annoying install.
Also, after a full wipe you will definitely want to run market dr so u can easily keep tabs on your updates.
in short, you wouldn't bang her/him without a condom right? well don't flash with out titanium backup!
I totally recommend the paid version!!!!!

I was about to but i got a message that said i might have to reinstall the ROM if something craps out...

you should be able too delete what u want. I wouldn't remove wifi calling though lol
I would wait for a clockwork recovery version to be available. This way u can make a backup before u delete all that

Im not with tmo it says invalid sim so its of no use to me. Is there a workaround?

oh i see,
in regards to a backup? i think itll be best to be safe than sorry and wait till clockwork recovery is released.

is there a big difference between the free and paid version? what im asking is would i still be able to do back up and delete bloatware with the free version

The batch is MUCH better with the paid version, definitely well worth it

I agree!!!!!!!!!

Just one thing: please don't forget that system apps (ie: apps that are part of your ROM) themselves can't be restored by TitaniumBackup for now. Only their data is backed up. So if somebody is not 100% sure about removing a system app, it's wise to try freezing it first -because that's easy to undo.

So how do we do the remove of unwanted apps

Also since you there is a paid version, does it store online ??
Mybackup Root saves online I notice have not check it out. Waiting for feedback as I will buy one of them to have that option to save online.

Yes I have the paid version and yes it can store online, provided you have a drop box account.

I use titanium for the simple fact that i don't need MyBackup to backup my contacts since they are already saved to my GMAIL account.
Plus titanium has the ability to remove bloatware from the phone once it's been rooted.

Tb hands down, I tried mbpro, bad thing is evan with the paid version there is a upload limit.
When I tried it wouldnt bkup all I wanted .
Tbpro is worth every penny, I use it almost everyday

I understand how to back up my apps and data through batching the files. But is there a way around clicking install on every app I am restoring. Thanks It is a pain in the butt to click install for 35+ apps.

Yep. With the paid version it is entirely automated.

I had no idea that this was the case when I upgraded, I just did it to donate, but when I hit restore the first time and then looked over after to see it all done, I was like . Best ever.

[Q] Upgrading phones - Can you re-download purchased apps?

I'll be able to upgrade my phone in June and was wondering if I had to re-purchase apps on a new Android device. Does it depend on the app or can you re-download all of them, at no cost, to the new device?

You can re-download those apps you paid for. Just sign in with the Google account you used to buy the apps.

It's done through your google account through the market

Since the Market uses your google account, as long as you login using the same Gmail address, you will be able to re-download purchased apps.

Thanks guys. The EVO was my first personal smart phone so I wasn't sure how that was handled. I was worried that you'd have to buy everything from scratch for each new device you owned.

As long as you sign in with the same google account in which you downloaded them under, yes.

And for the free ones, make sure you have them saved on your sd card and you can put those back on too! (or on computer and put them on your new sd)

I'm not sure if its possible or not, but I've always wondered if you upgrade your phone, if you can restore the data in an app from titanium backup. IE i made a backup of my lvl 30 character in zenonia on my evo, and I upgraded to the EVO 3D, or switched to the thunderbolt on verizon. Would You be able to restore the backup in titanium (after the phone is rooted ofc).

You should, just by restoring the app and data, not the system settings.

Awesome, that makes upgrading to a new phone a much easier decision, I have several apps that I have taken the time to put alot of data into, and would hate to re-enter that data.

Yea, I know exactly what ya mean. You'll to do your rom over, but the apps will be good to go.

Its the same technique you use when flashing and doing a clean install, you install the apps+data, just not system settings.
