I have writer, and it publishes to Wordpress, how is that a lie? when I said only I didn't mean that it was the only thing it publishes to, I meant that if I had writer it would only publish it to wordpress anyway, so why use a live writer app should it come along...Damn man talking about over reacting...

This Petition aims to show the support for xda-developers.com's archive of 'ROM Images'
The Undersigned wish to notify Microsoft Corp. of their strong feelings against the recent demands to remove the 'ROM Images'. We feel that they bring more publicity and support to the 'Windows Mobile' platform and device: without this we feel they would not be as popular as they are to this date
Nah, this forum's reliability is shocking to say the least. It's almost down more then it's up and it's incredibly slow from Australia!

The site admin is enjoying a well deserved rest.
Before xmas there were some issues identified and some fixes issued and all seemed OK. But now this...
Upon her return the issues will be investigated. I'm can't say if they are the same or new issues that are causing the recent outages.

I guess you have physical access to the hardware then.
Memtest the RAM modules.
Test for memory leaks
Try upgrading to the latest stable software - check logs for segfaults
Running software compiled against another version of a dependancy you have on your system?
Is your server virtualized?
Do a hard reset

Portal site / redirect to malware scam

Twice this evening I hit "READ MORE>" links on the portal and the tabs that were opened had been redirected to a malware scam:
http://preview.tinyurl.com/2338wlu
All ok here, never happened that
I have been redirected as well, just innocently clicking on articles on the main page. I sent an email to the webmaster just now with a complaint.
Got redirected to safyeom.in just like you with a scare malware scam. I really hope the webmaster/owners have nothing to do with this as it is quite disappointing.
Same problem here.
Now happened to me as well
In the portal whenever I want to click on any article it redirects me to a supposed malaware but nothing happens, after you click again and all ok
I´m sure Admins are aware of this and will be solved ASAP
Just happened to me also. Only, it keeps happening. Clicked on the article title link Boot Animations + Tutorial for Android a few times and happened each time.
Yeah, the blog is definitely infected. Redirects to malware when you click on any of the tags for the stories too.
Contacting the server Sys. Admin for XDA along with the site admins
EDIT: Talked to the portal admin and got a story on the front page to warn users, working on resolving this issue.

This is a XSS (Cross Site Scripting) attack where an advertiser publishes on a site legitimately for a while then switches to a malicious site. not at the fault of the site owners... This has happened to other large sites like the new york times and such
yeah, happened to me a few times. funny too. i run ubuntu, and it was 'scanning my system' finding several windows viruses.
the websites picked up were with .in suffixes (india)
glad to hear that it's the site, though, and not something local
Yeah, I noticed this too. Glad its not my PC...but I'm not exactly happy XDA's taking a hit for the team.

If you declined any download, then you should be OK. I'd suggest scanning with something in addition to your regular scanner, like Malware Bytes Antimalware (I only suggest it as it's free, and doesn't use a real-time monitor like other AV packages, so won't conflict with what you have installed already).
The XDA Portal is temporarily offline. Visit the Forums!
Glad to know that I was not the only one.
Got worried that my machine was infected, went so far as to actually run a trace to verify that the malware was being launched from the website, haha

5-reinstall limit on paid apps

I hope this story doesn't turn out to be true but, until it is debunked, I won't be wasting my money on anymore WP7 apps. And if it turns out to be true, I will abandon WP7 altogether...set it up as strictly a Zune audio player and be done.
There's only so much a customer can be expected to take with any product. If this story is true, MS will go way beyond that limit.
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/microsoft-you-can-install-a-wp7-app-five-times-on-a-purchase
This is a lie and has been proven as such.
The truth is:
1/. You can only install the app on 5 different phones with the same windows live ID
2/. On any of these phones, you can install the same app as many times as you want.
3/. You have a WP7, you could've tested this with one of those $0.99 apps that you don't even like anyway instead of scaring the crap out of people.
That's not true. I think the truth is that if you use the same Live ID on more than 5 phones, you need to pay again. And you can swap out 1 phone by another one every 30 days.

How you think I felt when I read the headline? I started counting off the dollars I have invested in WP7 paid apps. Then I started thinking and rationalizing the need for system hard resets. I feel like my HD7 needs an HR right now. That would put me down to 4 more HRs before my games are no longer playable.

Even so, you could have purchased a cheap ass $.99 app, installed, uninstalled and reinstalled it 5 times to see what it told you. Doing so would have taken less effort than posting your OP and it would have given you the answer you sought - that you can indeed install the app as many times as you want on upto 5 devices at a time, with the possibility of changing one of those devices out every month.
The whole "story" came about due to a erroneous French translation.

I have read it. As for spending money you don't have - if you can't even afford a $.99 app I very much doubt you can afford your WP7 device in the first place.
In any case, the "scoop" had been debunked long before you posted this thread. Check some other blogs and you'll see lots of people have already tried it out.

I already provided the information you needed to get it confirmed directly from MS - check their knowledgebase.
If that's not enough, perhaps you should check the original thread over at MS Answers where Camille B. has cleared up the confusion saying there was a misunderstanding and that you can install it on five phones as many times as you like - as long as the app/game is still available on the marketplace.

Yes.
Why would it be cool to hijack someone's Facebook account, which belongs to them and contains all their personal information, conversations, and more? What right does anyone have to dig into a person's private things? It's also illegal in at least some places.
Why would kicking people off wifi be cool? There might be a few legitimate reasons, but for the most part it's only if you want to play tricks on your friends or be a juvenile douchebag to strangers.
Why would denying someone their revenue for their hard work be cool? Decent sites show ads that are relevant to the site and things you are probably interested in. I don't mind that. Apps might show ads I'm not interested in, but I can usually pay for an ad-free version if I want. Either way, each party gets something out of it. It's a trade. Life isn't free (for you nor the creator of whatever you're using).
Still confused?

ah, I understand where you are coming from, but my intent was not to have people stealing private information. I think the idea was that it's not cool to hack someone's account. Being more security concious is definitely cool.
Also, I should clarify that I'm not necessarily against ad blocking (I do it for general web browsing), but when it's something you actually use that has value to you (such as XDA for me), which the creator provides to you for free in exchange for seeing some reasonable ads, I don't think it's cool to deny them the small bit of support they have asked for in return.
Most of these are actually pretty cool. As far as a Facebook hijack I'm not a fan but props to the OP for letting me know how unsecured my and my girlfriends Facebook accounts are. I just showed her how I was easily able to log into Facebook as her. We both just secured our Facebook!

Sounds like there should be a AdFree (Ad Blocker) with a feature that lets you unblock certain websites or apps. Whereas, AdFree does it universally.

Those are some neat things. May not be for everyone, but cool nontheless.
Facebook hijacking and kicking someone off WiFi is not cool. However, I don't see a problem with ad blocking. It's no different than fast-forwarding through commericials on a TV show that you recorded on a DVR. I never click on ads anyway. If that makes me an immoral person, so be it.

any negative criticism on the wp boards means folks call " troll " within two posts. the weakest defense is name calling, or attempting to side track with arguing instead of seeing the statement for what it is.
the point was the features touted are dated, commonplace, boring. show me features that no one else has. you know, something besides some new Facebook or twitter feed.
