Crackdown: Project Sunburst is out!!! - Windows Phone 7 General

Yup, I just tried it, and it's really quite enjoyable ^__^ An excellent example of a great quality game priced correctly
Now if only the other MSGS games follow suit, MS are onto a winner methinks!

its pretty fun!
only thing is that it lacks descriptions.
like how much dmg does each tower do, range.. etc

I was wondering if there where the same game or type of game for the pocket pc as there is for iphone.
the games that i am looking for is.

P.S. I HATE APPLE. i am trying to show some apple fanboys that u can get the same type of games and as good games as you can get on the iPhone/iPod on the PPC
actually the only thing i'm envious of is the quality of games on the iphone. Sure for windows mobile you also got a lot of games, but if the manufacturer (HTC!!!!) doesn't even provide hardware acceleration drivers, then no matter how many games you got.... it still sucks......
Luckly i havent really bought Touch HD yet but i want it very much.
and the again i cant wait for the new nVIDIA Tegra that comes out soon and it can play quake 3 with a fps of 30 and play 1080p movies.
so its just a matter of time to see if i can wait for Tegra because my current phone is totally broken.
and yeah i am envious on iPhone/iPod to just bought Ipod Touch so there three in my class that have iPod Touches and there is so meny great games espically the TD's

Can I get some feedback on the games?
the games all look fine, but i personally would prefer NOT to pretend they are mario, god of war, call of duty etc etc.
using an icon of mario does NOT make it a mario game....likewise for the others
those are licenced/trademarked names from the original developers and using their names makes it sound like YOU think the game isn't good enough to sell without pretending it's part of a franchise.
i never install games like that
if it's a good game, rename it and rebrand it yourself....you should be proud of doing the work so don't cheapen it by trying to jump onto someone else's marketing bandwagon.
just my humble opinion of course....and i'm sure it's the opinion of Nintendo etc who own the copyright to those brands officially
are you serious????

Ok i read your post and you dont make any sense at all. If I was trying to sell the games I could see your point , but Iam not. The reason I made those games originally was for myself. I made them because those are the types of games I like to play. I figure I share them with others as well. Where do you see me trying to sell copywritten games??? Did you even think before you posted???
that was not his point at all.
i think, what d-signet is trying to say is that usually games, that do not originate in a big franchise, but still use their names, are too poorly made to be branded under an own name. so, if you have a proper 1:1 clone of a mario game, name it as a proper clone. if it is an original platform game, which is good enough to stand for itself, don't minimize your own artwork by using mario's name and keep it original.
i have to agree with d-signet. i have come along so many knock-offs and clones that names like "SuperMarioGunWVGA" actually keep me from installing the game and even give it a chance, because i would expect another cheap clone. if you put an original name like jump 'n' gun or whatever, i would certainly have a look.
so, nobody is accusing you of copyright infringement, but only of a poor choice of names, while the work behind it and sharing it with the community is highly appreciated.
i agree with the above. you do not help your case when you state that you are "working hard to supply you with the latest games for free!!!"
Well I guess no one wrote what I said. I will repeat , this are games that I wanted to play but didnt see avalible on windows mobile. I made them so I could play them on the go. I made original games also , like phaserx, rexum, colorbox, etc. Nintendo ,Sega,or Sony would not have a problem unless I sell thier games. There are hundreds of supermario, sonic, and many more clones avalible for the PC,MAC, or Linux. What I am doing here is nothing new , just having fun!!!
Are your original games free too? hehe. where is the link?
Whatever the names, your games are plain bad(goddamn the controls)
If you are looking for some nice games to play on HD i recommend PocketUFO, TTDeluxe, NetHack. They all look nice and are free.

Things to smile about with the Touch HD.

I'm starting this thread out of enthusiasm for my new Touch HD. I recently "lost" my Athena when my wife neglected to grab it with my laptop while exiting a taxi. I had my baby daughter in my hands and didn't realise that she wasn't aware of my phone as well as my laptop. So... Out with the old and in with the new.
First off, the Touch HD is beautiful. A lot of people are posting videos of the Touch HD and the iPhone, side by side. Of course, we get most of these videos through youtube, and of course the iPhone always looks brighter.
Let's get something out of the way, the iPhone has a capacitive screen. That means there's no metalic film between the lcd screen and your eyes (edit)(Touch HD has a resistive screen, there's a metalic layer there... .
So, brighter it is. What you won't notice with youtube (on account of crap resolution) is just how clear everything is on the Touch HD in comparison to the iPhone.
I've owned two iPhones in the past, and I'm happy to say goodbye to freezing apps, or altogether phone freezes. (edit) before people argue with me, yes the Touch HD freezes from time to time, but usually when I'm pressing it too hard with apps or a new rom. If I use it like normal it won't freeze... Not something I can say about my iphones...)
Something else to smile about is, although the user interface of winmo phones isn't as user friendly as say an iPhone, it is however a lot more open to customization. Let's face it, who wants to have to open a stupid proprietary application like iTunes (god I'm sick of the small i now...) just to transfer some music or videos?
How about the fact that itunes (see, I'm not doing it anymore) renames videos, creating problems like not knowing which episode of a season you're watching? I don't care how much Steve Jobbs loves himself or his visions of a software utopia, to me, control and variation is everything when it comes to something I OWN.
We use computers enough to begin to take for granted, copy, paste, click, and drag. Own an iphone (still not capitalizing the second letter ) for a while and you'll soon come to miss something so easily taken for granted otherwise. I love just dragging the music, videos, and files directly from a directory on my computer to my phone. It's just so damn good...
I should thank Steve Jobbs for creating a device that would remind me how much better windows devices are than the iphone. "Thanks Steve, your phone sucks, but the lesson learned will stay with me for life."
Now, another thing I truly love about my Touch HD (and winmo phones in general) is having access to my file system on the phone itself. Let's face it, it rocks simply put.
I like being able to watch videos in my mobile browser (with a third party browser like opera of course) and not be limited to the youtube app like we see on the iphone (iHabit broken?) This just adds to the constant smiles on my face on account of the small surprises provided to use the winmo community.
I am probably forgetting a lot of things (actually, my hand is broken so I'm being lazy and knowingly neglecting to list more), but I can't forget what just may be the biggest combination that puts a smile on my face with this phone.
Flashing custom roms, and the excellent community here at xda. If I had only my winmo phone and the official rom, it'd be a pretty cool phone on account of it's inherent features (read above), but the mere fact that there's just so much support, and an ongoing river of new software, roms, and support here at xda, just makes this phone a constant surprise.
You can unlock, and jailbreak the iphone, you can skin it, theme it, and add software, but nothing and nowhere even close to that which is possible on a winmo phone, and it's thanks entirely to the individuals programming software, porting things, and cooking excellent roms.
Because of this and so many other facts, I will continue to choose winmo devices, and more importantly, keep a smile on my face while modding, flashing, cabbing, and downright enjoying the one I have now.
Caid.
Sorry, last edit. Just a note to all new users of the Touch HD. Use the wiki, I know the forum says that, but hear it from a user. The wiki for this phone is absolutely beautiful and really is a step by step on doing EVERYTHING you will want to do. It's not confusing, it's not difficult to follow, it's software community perfection in one spot.
So... USE THE WIKI.
Agreed!
It is funny, because people keep saying that they get turned off a phone because it is WinMo - I am the opposite, I get turned off because it /isn't/ WinMo! Honestly, I think we can all put up with some occasional glitches for a system the is /completely/ customisable.
Having said that...I am not an iPhone hater. I think the iPhone is great for people who are used to have non-smart-phones (dumb phones?) or PDAs, who don't have time/not willing to learn how to use one and are not particularly tech-savvy. iPhones are designed to just work out of the box - if you're not prepared to fiddle around with your phone to get the best out of it, go iPhone.
But if you're willing to play around, to take a few risks and to just have some fun with your phone...WinMo is the way to go (or Android, I guess).
Also, I can honestly say that xda forums are the only app store I need
Thanks for all the roms/apps/fixes guys!
nicely said
I don't hate the iphone myself, I've just used it long enough not to like it very much either. I got sucked into the iphone craze, how fluid the OS is, and how smooth it is. But then I used a nice winmo phone and realised all the wonderful things I can do with it. I have control. Another important thing about winmo phones is the fact that it has a great learning curve. If someone isn't tech savvy and just wants a phone, they got it. But for someone like me, I like something that takes a LONG time to really figure out. Getting into custom roms, rom kitchens, tweaking apps, registry editors, home made software, is just not an iphone option.
Caid.
not to mention that it's easier to develop useful software for winmo devices
i tried using the I am rich crap instead of ArcPad... guess who did the job
I also forgot to include the fact that with all these apps, roms, themes, tweaks...it's like having a something new to play with all the time!
Pretty much means that I shouldn't get bored of my phone any time soon =D
iphone always looked like a toy phone with it functions to me. Come on - no navigation, limited phone functions, limited software, no mms, crappy 3g. It is like an overgrown music/video player with not so great resolution and aside some phone functions. blah
mmm
I love my Touch HD Cause :
Screen the REs is HUGE and very clear .. butter then the Iphone
MMs and vid's.. look soo sexy .. widescreen etc.. better then teh Iphone
the touch is not as good as the iphone.. multi aspcet etc. but it's better then my original touch ....
I love the Winmo.. as much as I hate Microsoft, cause it's links with everything.. it's so good I use it as 8GB pen drive.. I always have it on me .. and can take it every where .. !!
hmm..
You know, let's be honest about the iphone, it's not better or worse than winmo phones, it's just different. For a lot of people who want a movie/music player, it's a great phone. It's just not ideal for people who want to dissect and customize. As I stated earlier, being able to load custom roms on my phone is what really floats my boat.
Again, my phone isn't better than an iphone on a grand scale, it's just better than an iphone for me. And when I buy a phone, that's what matters.
Caid.

Just found a Doodle Jump like game for WP7!

Guys I don't know exactly whether or not this is the right place to post this, but I'm just SO EXCITED right now.
While searching for cool WP7 apps I just found a game called "Doodle Tower".
It looks pretty much like Doodle Jump for the iPhone! I can't wait to get my hands on this one, read some UK forums and many people say it's even better than the original Doodle Jump.
There are like 8-9 platform types with different functions and the level generator seems to be pretty solid with a combination of randomization and scripts!
Has it been released yet or is it "Coming soon" ?
It's already released!
You can find it in the marketplace by searching "Doodle Tower" or have a look at some screenshots at the developer homepage: modmonkeys.net
I would post links to some reviews and opinions I read about it, but I'm not yet allowed to do so because I'm new to this forum.
Thanks, I'll take a look.
Update: Just taken a look at the game....no way is it better than doodlejump. The level design is the most simple thing I've ever seen. good foundations, but it needs some proper skinning before I even consider a purchase.
In my opinion the level design is exactly the thing that makes it more interesting than Doodle Jump. You have to see that Doodle Jump received dozens of updates and this game is at it's beginning, however the platform types currently in the game are much more fun than in Doodle Jump.
It is more random than the Doodle Jump levels, Doodle Jump got boring as soon as you have seen the possible platform segments. Doodle Tower uses more randomization without giving up the scripted segments, they just combine it a very balanced way.
The game misses some background enhancements and enemies or some special effects, but the foundation is more solid than Doodle Jump 1.0 has been back then. It will be interesting to see what the devs plan in future updates, I personally love it the way it is atm, and I'm sure I will love it even more with future updates!
All in all Doodle Tower is the best game of its kind you can get for WP7 at the moment. Doodle Jump may have more updates, but Doodle Tower will receive more and more content, I'm pretty sure about that.
Hi guys,
I'm one of the lucky German citizens that received their WP7 device yesterday. And I just registered here to thank FW8 for this topic!
I was sceptically when I saw the screens, but hell, the gameplay is freaking awesome!
Played it for about 1-2 hours and it's still a lot of fun! I'm using every free minute trying to get a new highscore.
I'm missing online leaderboards, enemies and some cool special effecs (particles or something that uses the power of my device a bit) but for an early version it is just BADASS!
MonsterUp
As you may have already noticed, Doodle Tower was taken down an replaced with Birdy something because of naming disputes. No matter though, cause our game, MonsterUp, is way better and available since beginning of January. Already voted best WP7 for January 2011, featured in Channel9 Hot Apps show, and getting awesome reviews in the Marketplace.
Check it out at www.kariosgames.com, get the trial version and let us know what you think.

Really? Full House Poker?

I mean I understand that it's to be released on both the Xbox and WP7 at the same time but really? That's it? I am thoroughly disappointed this time. Xbox has dug through mounds of **** just to make a name for itself and what has Windows Phone 7 shown in that department? I mean there's ilomilo and then theres iphone clones. It's so sad to see a first rate OS by a corporate giant turned into a third rate gaming platforms because they'd rather spend a huge budget on advertising what the phone can currently do rather than making that Xbox live tile appeal to a plethora of users who had hope in their hearts when they saw Xbox live integration and watched it be shat on with garbage like... well... half the stuff on the Xbox live WP7 marketplace. It's cool that you're getting the most popular iphone clone and a game I played on my beat up sega dreamcast a decade ago but really, where's the innovation?
I think it might be time to change your siggy...
I don't have an xbox, so I don't care so much about the integration, but I'm finding way more games I like on my phone right now than on android or winmo.
Currently working on twin blades, AC, I dig it, and The Harvest. Also play majong(sp) tiles and a couple rounds of spades as well.

Ah, R.I.P. Twin Blades. It was a great game unfortunately I've since swapped memory cards coincidentally on the day it vanished from the market and alas I am left without one of the defining games on the platform. I Dig It I havent really visited in some time due to the inability to save (not sure if that's still present), The Harvest has somewhat annoying controls, a virtual joystick makes more sense than a point and click diablo-esque phone game in my opinion, and AC has been on multiple other platforms as well as the other two games though perhaps not the exact same program. The astounding part though is regardless of the faults it's still the best. It's just that they've given us an amazing game or two (The Harvest really is amazing the controls just aren't for me) and then since have lacked innovation greatly. Where I thought they were going to try and stand alone it now looks like they're trying to be a "me too" platform. I did recieve an email from someone regarding a mobile version of Torchlight though and though they couldn't confirm or deny they did tell me it was an option they were exploring. That would be amazing as that game only takes like what? 140 megs on the xbox? Dull it down a bit and it could be a game changer for WP7.

I know there are several big titles slated for first week in april. I agree they could do more, and I think they will. MS, if nothing else, is willing to throw money at devs.
So what's next on your list of complaint...

yeah and though I'm ok with that theyre throwing money at devs to release iPhone ports. Originality is Microsoft ticket and they've got more capable devs on their rolodex than any other mobile os. They should utilize those resources...

always such informative and insightful posts. They add a lot to the conversation.
I'm starting to agree with you about all the new releases. Puzzle games have their place (especially on a mobile phone platform), but without more action titles, it makes it seem like XBox live is not really a serious reason for someone to get a WP7 as Microsoft would like people to think.
That said, I have actually really, really enjoyed the XBox Live games. I used WinMo and Android for a long time before WP7 and never really got into gaming on either platform but for some reason, I just started playing games on WP7 a lot. I don't have an XBox so the integration with XBox is not something I really care about. I like the achievements. It gives me something to play for.
The April releases will keep me satisfied for a while, but in my opinion, they need a lot more releases like those in April, not just every now and then.
edit: oh yeah, an afterthought... maybe chill out on the tower defense games. 1 is enough on the entire platform. It seems like every other game on the Marketplace is a freakin tower defense game. Not a big fan.
I guess you guys haven't seen the poker commercial on xbox live then? Its quite stupid.
You can play the game on both your console and phone.
Spoiler alert; its not the way you think it is. Integration my ass.

Give people a break. Typos are just typos and oftentimes, people use translators and such.
SPORTS GAMES! WTF!
Is there a single sports game on this platform? XBox may not have many either....but some sports games (i.e. one button swing type games) are made for mobile.
WP7 is lacking sports games something fierce.

How do y'all like WP7? I'm still on WinMo because Garmin Mobile XT is awesome, particularly where there is no cellular coverage. Also, I do not own a laptop and do a lot of long emails on my phone when I'm not at home with my 70lb desktop and I'm irritated that I can't get a WP7 device with the exact same keyboard as my Rhodium and at least the latest Qualcomm 45nm goodness in it complete with Adreno 205, much less the upcoming dual Cortex A8 with independent clock speed and CPU voltage and Adreno 220. Why in the Sam Hill did M$ decide that only 65nm OG Snapdragon SoC's were going to go into WP7 devices?
I read a few reviews of the Euro-spec 7 Pro and it seems that HTC used a crappy LCD but not as crappy as the HD7's, and they somehow messed up the chassis of the Rhodium and the keyboard. I like that I can get giant batteries for these things and that unibody sh*t jus doesn't float my boat. I guess I'm just pissed that WP7 is locked to 65nm Snapdragon and irritated with HTC for messing with the landscape qwerty slider chassis and keyboard that they perfected with the Rhodium.

[Discussion] Games you want Ported to Windows Phone

On my blog, I recently wrote an article about games I would like to see be ported to Windows Phone. Mango is slated to be the biggest update to Windows Phone yet. With Mango bringing features like socket support, there is a huge potential for a whole bunch of games being made for and ported to the Windows phone platform. With that, do you know of any games that you would like to see a Windows Phone port of? Also, do you agree or disagree with the choices of games I made (in the blog post) that I would like to see be ported to the Windows Phone platform?

Anyone remembers Pathway to Glory for the original NGage ?
I'd like to see a remake of that game.
I had fun with Zenonia, Peggle, and so many other iPhone games. Sadly, doubt they will ever be ported to wp7. iOS gets all the best apps and games, just the way it is.
Oh, and they already have a few clones of the games you listed on your blog. Duck hunt and angry birds I know for sure have clones on wp7.
I treat my phone like my Kinect: it's nice to have around but I can only see myself playing casual games with it. So Halo, Final Fantasy or whatnot I don't care for. 3 games I'd really like would be Cut The Rope, Game Dev Story and Words with Friends (I don't think it's as good as Alphajax but it's cross-platform). There are probably others I can't remember (Angry Birds is out in 2 days).
To the above poster, Peggle is a PopCap game and given their great relationship with Microsoft I wouldn't rule it out for WP7.

nope, I've never actually heard of that game before (until now)
Age of Empires.
There are several games I'd really love to see ported to WP7. But what I would probably like best is a remake of good old Lemmings. And possibly Push Over. Hmm... Turrican 1 and 2 would be nice as well.
Forget ports, I want to see Microsoft treat this as a real Xbox portable and get their game studios working on games like PGR, Forza, Kameo, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, Halo etc. And also encourage other big developers on the platform to give us DS/Vita quality games.
Edit: Also are you not aware Angry Birds comes out Wednesday?

I was not aware until now about the release date of Angry Birds. As for everything else, Microsoft is promoting Windows Phone devices as having the ability to play games integrated with Xbox Live, but Microsoft is not promoting it as it's chief function (but I do get your point). I do agree that Microsoft, in the Windows Phone division of the Xbox Live department, should be encouraging game development companies to bring some of their popular games and game series to Windows Phone.
they should port minecraft

On my blog, I recently wrote an article about games I would like to see be ported to Windows Phone. Mango is slated to be the biggest update to Windows Phone yet. With Mango bringing features like socket support, there is a huge potential for a whole bunch of games being made for and ported to the Windows phone platform. With that, do you know of any games that you would like to see a Windows Phone port of? Also, do you agree or disagree with the choices of games I made (in the blog post) that I would like to see be ported to the Windows Phone platform?

dosbox pls.
That one would fall under the category of Emulators, and as far as I know, Microsoft has not let any emulators into the marketplace yet.

Hopeful with mango, developer tools will allow game studios to recreate those great games and other.

wow Pathway to Glory was really THE BEST mobile game ever, the graphical details, gameplay and background score were way ahead of time for a game released in 2004 on a platform with limited hardware capabilities.
sadly this is the only decent video I could find: http://youtu.be/6PYRx1Q9ltk
edit::
Limbo would also make an amazing port for WP7

I would kill to see Gamevil's games ported to WP7. I played Zenonia 1 and 2 before making the switch and now I wish I could play 3. Unfortunately Gamevil let me know that Native Code isn't supported so they can't port them. Sad.
Peggle seems a must though.
My vote goes to the timeless classic Wonderboy, love the game and the retro soundtrack.
REAL RACING (iphone), great great game !
I dont see any decent racing car game on WP7

Now that you mention it, Gran Turismo on Window Phone sounds like a good idea. For you Nascar fans, I'm sure a Nascar game could be made as well (pending popularity and demand for it, because low popularity + selling has made it a low priority for gaming companies).
