k guys ive been looking at why so many people running CM on their evos have been getting horrible data speeds.
i flashed 6.1.1 as well as the v7 kernel from Bnice on this thread:

I wasn't aware this was a widespread issue on CM... my data speeds have been fine on CM.
How are you testing? And you've ruled out signal issues?
its horrible. i really dont know what happened because i used to be fine on CM6 also. one day everything changed. and yes when i flash a sense rom i get normal 3G speeds. ive run RUUs and wiped everything. i dont know where to begin. i think im going to completely delete everything off of my internal storage and external storage until i have a completely stock evo and try to start over
I'm Running cm6.1 in NYC and I get horrible 3g speeds. I've been running cm6 for a while now and never noticed how the 3g speeds were until this weekend. I love cm6 Rom but I might just have to go back to Sense if no solution is found.
i have contacted cyanogen about it. hopefully he will address the problem soon
She primarily would want good battery lfe and speed. theme doesnt matter cause shes used to my vibrant running axura froyo. i just cant decide which one to put on it because i don't know w much about this is
phone really.

CyanogenMod 6.1.1 is probably your best bet. Everything works on it, including wifi/gps/bluetooth, all that jazz. It's just the stock theme, as you probably know, but there's a nice thing also in the development section called Cyanoginger 1.1 final, should be near the top, it's a gingerbread theme for cm6.1.1. That should do it for her
CyanogenMod 6.1.1 or if she likes sense GratiousSlide 1.0
Or CM7 aka Gingerbread ....Rom is beyond amazing

Since he edited, I'm not sure what the status is on the GPS of the current CM7, but it's not too good for me.
CM6.1.1 is probably where it's at. It served me well
EDIT: Upon closer inspection, I see the GPS stuff should be fixed. I'd still go with the CM6.1.1/Cyanoginger1.1 combo.
GPS works fine with me using CM7 nightly

GPS working fine on CM7 Nightly here as well. Also the BEST battery life I have gotten from any rom in the time I have had this phone.
Id go with cm7. Everything works, its blazing fast, and i think the battery life is slightly better.
Cyanogenmod 7 nightly oc @ 825

I know this thread is a few days old but, here is my take.
I have the Slide and love it. I decided to root so I could have Froyo. Here is what I"ve learned.
If you go with Cyanogen you lose everything that makes the slide sense ui so great. You don't have peep, the weather widget, the awesome htc music app, friend stream, and all the other things that make the slide so awesome. However, you do get much better reception and call quality and much faster download speeds over wifi, edge, and 3g.
If you go with GratiousSlide then you get to keep all the cool htc sense apps with all the sleek looks and functionality but, you end up with the same half baked call quality and reception. Doesn't matter what radio you have your still stuck with the same cell tower reception you had with the stock slide rom. Download speeds are much better than the stock slide rom and, do seem comparable to CM6/7 but, I still think CM is just a bit faster.
Pick your poison.

Cyanogenmod is faster yes, but it has nothing to do with call quality? I had no difference in call quality/reception. There is a difference in download speeds, yes, but that is most likely due to the overall speed of the rom, not reception/radio-related.

Ah you are correct, sorry about that, I should have done more research. I now get the same reception I had with CM6.
On my Slide I had to downgrade the radio to 7.09.35.10
If I use the newest one, 7.15.35.16, I get terrible reception like I did with my stock slide.

Huh, that's odd. That's the second time I've heard that today. It didn't affect mine at all, not only that, but it doubled speeds. But it seems some people are having reception issues.
Cm7 is running great, haven't had any issues at all so far.

sorry everyone I should have posted this sooner. but the past week has been insane. I finally got around to rooting my wife's slide last Thursday I think. I went with cm6 because I didn't want to deal with nightly builds. that would drive my wife crazy if I was upgrading it everyday. told her I would probably upgrade it once a month.
she's been using it since then and is loving the hell out of it. the battery life is insane now. I didn't upgrade the radio, atleast not to my knowledge. anyway the reception seems fine, in fact her phone sports a fat H instead of 3g practically everywhere in dfw. lucky
I so glad she's happy about it and now I don't have to hear about how her phone sucks every day.
thanks for all your input.

Just an FYI, H isn't true HSPA+, more like 3.25G
yeah, cm 6.1.1 and the new radio is going to be the stable - its going to keep her off your back as to why her phone isnt doing this or that

Hey hey, that's awesome to hear, man. Maybe when there's an RC or Stable version of CM7 you can upgrade her to that.
Yeah, I know the thread title is a mouthful, but hear me out.
I've been running CM7 since the first nightlies, and have enjoyed it a lot. However, right now my only option for internet is through USB tethering/wireless hotspot.
The other night, after my Netflix kept stopping due to slow internet issues, I decided to try an experiment. I ran speedtest on CM7 with many different servers (LA, Chula Vista, San Diego, Phoenix) and saw that I topped out around 500kbps. So I flashed Myn's 2.2 and ran speedtest with the same servers and averaged out between 800 and 1300kbps each time.
I know that a lot of people have 3G speed issues with AOSP roms, but today as I was searching around for roms to try, I installed SalvageMod. The first thing I did was run speedtest, and ended up averaging around the same as I did with Myn's.
My question is, being an AOSP Gingerbread rom, why am I still getting Sense-like 3G speeds with Salvage, when I still can't top 600k with CM7?
A little irrelevant but just starting today, my 3g speeds are like 200kps which pisses me off since I just used to get 1.5 mbps. Using cm7. Ill try flashing myns when I get the chance but first I'm gonna keep tweaking cm7 until I'm outta options
Edit: nvm its gone now
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on the IPhone. We now have the Htc Evo.

You must do this with a Sense based ROM first. Do this update then flash your nandroid of CM7.

See if this increases your speed. It works for many.

Thanks. Did that when I had Warm 2.2 installed. Could explain the speed increase in Salvage.

I was going to do this, but my understanding was the moment u flash another rom it undoes this, unless that is just from flashing another sense rom?
Right off that post "-All credit to original finder of this fix, i am just passing it along and found the speed increase. Also when you flash a new rom it will back to old settings so remember to re-apply and it wont make you more vulnerable to anything."
Lately I've been pretty much stuck on 1x at work when I normally have 3g almost the whole time. Any ideas as to how to fix this? I'm running 7.0.0 and have tried restarting my phone.
I tried searching, but if this has already been addressed, someone please say so and I'll look harder.
I updated to 7.0.3, same issue...anyone?

Have flashed a radio recently? Which one are you on?
I've noticed that on CM7 3G is a lot slower for me than other ROMs, and on any AOSP ROM 3G sucks a LOT more battery life than it did on Sense
Maybe Verizon is working on towers in your area? Or maybe try flashing another rom to see if it alleviates the problem, if it does then you know for a fact that it is CM and you can start to work from there.
Hope this helps...

Really? I've had the total opposite.
I honestly didn't think ROM's had anything to do with data speeds but I noticed when I went from CM7 to SkyRaider3.5 it dropped nearly in half. I kept on SR3.5 for about 3 months, and then again it's now double (peaking at 325KB/s) on CM7.
To the OP, the most common things I would suggest you to do is check what radio version you have, if it's too old or maybe a newly flashed radio then that's a likely cause for your problem.
Also, more importantly is to update your PRL codes with *228
So I had to replace my EVO and am now on my 4th. Its a HW004 and is fully updated and no root.
I'm actually impressed with how fast and stable this thing is. Ive been rooted since I had my HW002 EVO and I had some quick roms, but it seems like my Battery charges faster and last longer, and the phone is a lot quicker to respond.
Has anyone else seen this that has been rooted and then when back to unroot stock plus GB?
Ive ran all kinds of roms and was a flashaholic (still am. Talked my coworker into to letting me root his Sensation while on lunch just to get in some mod time since I cant root ) Ive run all kinds of scripts and kernels, and Im still Impressed with this phone. I dont see why everyone is so worried about having an OG EVO while the world is concentrating on most newer modles. There still quick as hell.
Anyways just curious.
I will give it to ya, stock evos still are pretty good. I unfortunately got a refurbished due to extreme overheating. All I ran was AOSP, and I can't wait to run it again, but stock is more then fine. I'm running adw ex instead of the sense launcher, and I honestly don't have a problem with it.
My EVO is HW004. I have noticed an increase in speed when upgrading to gingersense. My battery life/charge speed did improve as well. I cannot say what the newer models are running, but I believe what you are talking about may be due to the improved software.

Yeah I agree at least it runs silky smooth while I wait to root again. I just prefer AOSP because of how light it is memory-wise, and customization.
I notice that my friends newer 004 runs CM7 a lot faster and smoother than my 003.
My wife has a HW002 and she is always having the issue with repeting text messages. She will recieve 20 of the same message or send 20 of the same before it stops. Once I had my HW003 and HW004 I never ran into the issue again.
As far as my 004 EVO now Im using TommyTomatos HttC rosie mod and Desktop Visualizer to give my EVO a little bit of a diffrent look. But, yeah, can deffantly see an overall improvment in performance.
