[Q] CM7 not getting 3g where I normally would? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Lately I've been pretty much stuck on 1x at work when I normally have 3g almost the whole time. Any ideas as to how to fix this? I'm running 7.0.0 and have tried restarting my phone.
I tried searching, but if this has already been addressed, someone please say so and I'll look harder.

I updated to 7.0.3, same issue...anyone?

Have flashed a radio recently? Which one are you on?

I've noticed that on CM7 3G is a lot slower for me than other ROMs, and on any AOSP ROM 3G sucks a LOT more battery life than it did on Sense

Maybe Verizon is working on towers in your area? Or maybe try flashing another rom to see if it alleviates the problem, if it does then you know for a fact that it is CM and you can start to work from there.
Hope this helps...

Really? I've had the total opposite.
I honestly didn't think ROM's had anything to do with data speeds but I noticed when I went from CM7 to SkyRaider3.5 it dropped nearly in half. I kept on SR3.5 for about 3 months, and then again it's now double (peaking at 325KB/s) on CM7.
To the OP, the most common things I would suggest you to do is check what radio version you have, if it's too old or maybe a newly flashed radio then that's a likely cause for your problem.
Also, more importantly is to update your PRL codes with *228

POSSIBLE SOLUTION CM6 3G slow

k guys ive been looking at why so many people running CM on their evos have been getting horrible data speeds.
i flashed 6.1.1 as well as the v7 kernel from Bnice on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9878475&postcount=2
my speeds have been great. i encourage you look to into it and post back with your results
EDIT: UPON REBOOT DATA SPEEDS SLOWED BACK DOWN...

I wasn't aware this was a widespread issue on CM... my data speeds have been fine on CM.
How are you testing? And you've ruled out signal issues?
its horrible. i really dont know what happened because i used to be fine on CM6 also. one day everything changed. and yes when i flash a sense rom i get normal 3G speeds. ive run RUUs and wiped everything. i dont know where to begin. i think im going to completely delete everything off of my internal storage and external storage until i have a completely stock evo and try to start over
I'm Running cm6.1 in NYC and I get horrible 3g speeds. I've been running cm6 for a while now and never noticed how the 3g speeds were until this weekend. I love cm6 Rom but I might just have to go back to Sense if no solution is found.
i have contacted cyanogen about it. hopefully he will address the problem soon

[Q] Bad radio or Myn's Rom has bad connection

Sorry don't flame.
Ever since I loaded Myns RLS 5 with new radio and wimax etc.
My signal has decreased in most areas when I travel to my normal spots its all 1 bar or two maybe even none. It never use to be like this until I switched. Any clues?

I have also noticed a huge decrease in signal for any radio. Including WiFi. For some reason I am not getting a good connection. I downgraded back to PRI 177, but it still sucks. I first noticed it when I was traveling... So I wasnt sure if it was because I was in an unfamiliar area and didnt know what kind of signal to expect. But now that I'm home I definitely see a difference.
Has anybody else seen this? Just bad data overall.

I've been having issues with this too... Updated to Myn's RLS5, flashed the new radio combo and service has been much worse than before. I have tried to downgrade the radios, pri/nv and combinations of new radio/previous pri/nv. I've even tried these combos on sense roms (Myn's & MikFroyo) as well as AOSP roms (CM 6.1.2 w/ and w/o 4g) with no improvement. I've even restored my NAND backup of Myn's RLS4. Profile updated after each radio flash.
I've noticed with the signal issues comes less than stellar battery life. I'm a power user so I was getting about 10hrs before the radio updates. Now it's more like 6-7hrs if lucky.
I noticed the same thing except for me its on all roms and ive been having bad connection with service and data for like two months now

[Q] Question Regarding Signal on AOSP vs Sense

Maybe this is all in my head so I need a confirmation. Do Sense ROMs have better signal strength/data speeds? It doesn't make sense to me but I just seem to have much better reception and speeds when using a Sense based ROM, including EVO framework ones as opposed to CM and Ruby. Is there ay reason for this or am I just imagining it?
I've often wondered the same thing.
I think, however, that actual reception is tied to the PRL, the radio, the PRI, and some more uber-technical stuff - in other words, things well under the hood that aren't impacted/changed when a ROM is flashed.
That said, I suspect ROMs play differently with those things depending on how they are built, hence what appears (or may actually be) better signal.
It all comes down to the RIL and radio. A rom won't mess with those. They should be identical. Check the signal dBm's to compare roms.

I figured it would be a radio thing but it always seemed it was changing from ROM to ROM. That being said, I switched from a Sense ROM to an AOSP one and the signal has not changed at all so thanks guys for answering the question. I knew it had to be in my head hehe

One thing you DO have control over is the firmware of the radio. There are currently 3 versions of radio firmware that you can flash. This has nothing to do with the ROM. Different people have different results in terms of link stability and speed depending on them. Look for the Radio thread to find the downloads and information.
I've actually had this issue on the EVO and can confirm after testing that the signal strength is less with an AOSP ROM (every one I've tried actually). Drives me crazy because I really want to use one.

How exactly did you test this? There are many variables that could influence signal.

flashing radios to 3.70 base roms

ok guys i have a question..why in most 3.70 based roms do you need to have the most recent radios..at least thats what devs put up in op..are thier certain files that interact with the radios cause im on myns rls5 with the 2.3 gingerbread leaked radio and see nothing wrong..just a simple question then the mods can delete post lol
yea the htc 25 kernels interact with the radios, and cause major problems on radios older than ......9.15 or something. i guess cuz your using the newer leak radio you should be fine. i've been thinking about flashing that radio. is it worth it?

I flashed the newest radio (leak) when it came out a couple weeks ago. I haven't noticed much of a difference in speed (i'm lucky and always have good 3g speeds to begin with). However, it seems to consume less battery when idle, with the 3g radio on. It seems to idle/sleep better than it ever has. 3G radio doesn't seem to consume quite as much battery when in use either (placebo effect? I'm not sure, but it seems to be bettery on battery)

Newest leaked radio breaking phones?

What's the verdict on this? I was running the leaked Gingerbread radio, seemed to be working fine. But I read in one of the ROM threads in the Dev section that the new radio is breaking phones. Apparently after some amount of time running it it completely breaks WiFi... permanently.
What's the story on this? It came from a dev directly, though he said he wasn't sure that is what caused it, he said his phone had to be replaced, and that others had had the issue with the leaked radio as well. Coming from a dev, it freaked me out enough to flash back to the stock radio immediately.
Prior to the GB leak, I'd been running the most recent leaked Evo radio (4/8 I think?) Also seemingly without any problems. Was that radio causing any issues?
Do you have the original post? What development said this?

Ditto. I've ran it since it leaked. And I've never had a problem. And I've ran all the leaked evo ones as well.

He may have been referring to the leaked GB radio for the HTC Thunderbolt. A lot of people have reported bricks from it.
i've been running this radio since it came out, with wifi on most of the time, and haven't had any issues
I've heard this too, and it was in reference to the incredible 5.06 radio. I used it for a short time and it was fine (aside from terrible data speeds) but I'm not really inclined to risk it in the event that there is a correlation between those problems and the new radio.
Had to dig for it.... I have read thru so many threads, but here is what I'm referring to:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109355&page=15
Newtoroot is the dev who said that he suspected the new radio broke his WiFi. But a few other people in that thread say they've also had issues or heard that the new radio causes issues with WiFi that can be permanent.
Well ive seen about two people running the leaked radio go into an endless bootloop that doesnt allow you to go into recovery or anything just bootloop after bootloop after bootloop...so technically no hboot=brick idk what other problems it causes but it could be the same as the thunderbolt radio corrupting the emmc. I wouldnt recommend staying on the leaked radio if you really dont have to. Try out the Official Evo Gb Radio if you want the newest
My wife and I both have rooted Dincs, I was playing around flashing different radios on my dinc and comparing signal and data speeds, and GPS lock acquisition, between mine and hers. Hers is stock OTA ROM and stock radio. I tried the Evo 4.08 and the latest GB leak, I saw virtually NO difference in speeds or signal between my phone and hers, with them side by side.
- DSLreports.com consistently reported download speeds ~500-700 kbps
- Signal strength consistently -86 to -90 db
-GPS locks in about 8-10 seconds
both phones were very consistent regardless what radio I had ok my phone. That's enough to convince me that the stock radio is good enough for me

Yea the stock radio is good i just wanted to try something new and flash a radio im on 4.08 thing about switching to the offcial evo gb radio
I ran 4.08 for a few months. I had no problems with it. The GPS *seemed* to lock faster, but the testing today has me thinking it must have been more where I was or something else giving the faster locks. I'm going to try some more radios tonight and test side by side with my wife's dinc just to see if any of them actually makes a significant difference.
I've been using the leaked 10.05 radio since it came out and have had no problem with it ever. My wifi has never ceased to work and since I use it about 99% of the time you can bet this radio is safe.

Anyone tried 2.15.00.11.19 and notice any drawbacks over the Evo Official?
Been running 2.15.00.11.19 since couple days after it hit and have had no adverse effects but hearing the Evo Official is good is giving me an itch that just has to be scratched. If someone says not to switch, it's no better, I'll leave it be. If however the EO is better.... AAAAA Flashing I will go!
which radio are we talking about? 05.02 or 05.06?
Well I've read 5.06 is the leaked and had bricked (no hboot, boot loop) so guessing 5.02 would be the official unless I'm wrong which is not uncommon.
Have great gps and call service, data is just miserable lately on 3g. If not radio, it's got to be big red slowing down in area to better support 4g.
